Welcome to USAFBL Fingerboard Podcast. I'm your host, Mike Cunningham, and I've got Brian O'Neill on the mic this week.
speaker-1 (00:12)
No, I'm not gonna cuss at all. I'm sorry. I already said oh, I'm not gonna cuss on this one at all
speaker-0 (00:20)
at all.
speaker-1 (00:21)
Well.
speaker-0 (00:23)
We got some bangers this week. We got a lot of stuff.
speaker-1 (00:27)
Am
I supposed to be like, what's up? what's up? It's the Brian and in Levine. But I don't know. Well, like you guys were with Gary last week and like week four last and Sam and hanging out with Bam Mongera and like just doing cool ass shit.
speaker-0 (00:44)
It was a fun weekend. It was a very, fun weekend. Might be one of the funnest weekend.
speaker-1 (00:49)
just
said I'm not going to cuss on this damn podcast. Can we do a swerve jar?
speaker-0 (00:52)
Stop it.
You'd be hella poor.
speaker-1 (00:57)
Yeah, I would be held up. You even got a road trip with the newbie. That was a cool thing. Yeah.
speaker-0 (01:03)
Yeah,
he he's local to me as Corey. Shout out to Corey. Man, we were just chit chat and he's like, yeah, I just started finger boarding like like literally like a few months ago. And I'm like, wait, what's like you just basically started finger boarding in twenty twenty six. I'm like, that's wild. Like we need to talk about it. So I'm kind of glad that we got that pot in and got those perspectives out there because most of us we've been in the scene for a while. So the fact that we were able to get and pick the mind of a.
brand new fingerboarder is pretty crazy. yeah, definitely go check that episode out. We get a ton of bugs.
speaker-1 (01:35)
All
positive vibes. Yeah, like that's good. I'm Sometimes we're more into the minutia of things and it's like we're like, dude that sucks Or this is like not cool or not positive But it's like most people don't see what what you and I are seeing and a lot of this stuff And it's not like we're trying to drag people down. It's like everything's hard, you know finger boarding business The finger boarding business is hard, but finger boarding is not hard
speaker-0 (01:59)
There's basically two sides of finger boarding. You've got the consumer side, which I consider the consumer side of finger boarding to be phenomenal right now. There's tons of content, tons of deckmakers, obstacles, parks.
whatever you need, is out there and it's readily available. And then you've got like the business side of finger boarding. And I feel like the business side of finger boarding is a little rough. It's tough. It's like, ⁓ I wouldn't say like dog eat dog, but it's definitely like, it's a grind. And I don't know if people kind of realize like the two differences between the two, but.
speaker-1 (02:31)
It always cracks me up because everybody comes into this like they're all punk, you know, punk paradise. Like we're just going to do what we want to do. We're going to, we're going to do this. We're going to do that. We're going do this. And then they get into the business and they're like, Oh, wait a minute. This, this is actually a job. Oops. This is work. So speaking of work, we got plies magazine out issued. 18 is out right now. Oh, look at the air. Why does it look so small on your side? It's not the full size.
speaker-0 (02:46)
This is work.
18
I know barely make it through the door. Yeah
speaker-1 (03:01)
Size yourself down a little bit
But we got that out. We're working on 19 right now. You want to be in the next issue? What's the next month? it June? June is the next month. It's going to be the next issue. You got like 48 hours to let us know.
speaker-0 (03:09)
Hot fire.
We've been doing this for a year and a half now, 18 months.
speaker-1 (03:24)
Yeah, they don't have 48 hours by the time they see this video. It's already we're already off to print. So sorry later. Didn't get it. But then we got fingers skate finger SK eight dot com that launched.
speaker-0 (03:39)
⁓ brand from 2010. Yeah. all the old vaulted items. We're adding new vaulted items every single week. So definitely check that out. Tons of new graphics.
speaker-1 (03:51)
Behind
the scene, you know, that's, we put the vault on there and I think people think that we're kind of messing with them, but we really did go and get everything from the OG fingerskate brand. Right.
speaker-0 (04:04)
Yeah.
So there's tons and tons of inventory that date back 10 plus years. We're talking 27, 29 millimeter decks, like all the OG wheels. Like we have all of that old school inventory and stuff. So when we say vaulted, like we literally mean like blowing dust off some boxes and getting into the vault.
speaker-1 (04:28)
We got some blims and stuff. mean, we got some things in there. So check out fingerskate.com. That's finger SK eight.com. There's some cool stuff in there. We got tons of new graphics, new decks. I'm kind of losing my mind on the graphics, dude. Like I'm, I'm going like crazy town.
speaker-0 (04:44)
We're putting out graphics faster than I can put them on the site. Like we're probably 15 graphics behind. We have 15 graphics in our back pocket and there's probably another 60 graphics on the site.
speaker-1 (04:54)
Yeah, and the thing is, is like, we're not trying to be cool. Listen, and I'm not cussing. I'm just saying bitches, we're not trying to be cool. We're just trying to do shit that we like. And if you like it, awesome. If you don't like it, that's awesome too. We're just doing cool shit that we like. Please go check it out. You'll find something in there. Actually, we made a graphic that I'm curious to see how it comes out, dude, cause it's that, that back to the future.
speaker-0 (05:18)
you're talking about the hoverboard? Ooh, I don't think they're ready for that.
speaker-1 (05:20)
Yeah.
That's tough. It's a tough one. A two-sided graphic. It's got the pink right up to the edges, like the Back of the Future thing. It's going to be a tough one, but I think it'll be cool. Anyways, if you see it, you see it. If you don't, you know, but, ⁓ then we got the USAFBL, the big, mean, like, like legitimate, like hardcore, like, I can't believe we finally got this done. The USAFBL obstacles and parks, those are out and they're going off into the wild, dude.
speaker-0 (05:50)
It is crazy seeing these in shops, it's crazy seeing these in the wild, I'm seeing clips and stuff on them now, like we are, we're in it, they're out there and I'm loving it.
speaker-1 (06:01)
These aren't, these aren't, I don't, I don't know how to describe it, but I mean, hopefully you get to see them in the wild. They're going to be at the shops and stuff. Any of the finger boarding shops, skate shops, stuff like that. These are hardcore, cool obstacles ready to shred. And so, but that isn't what this is about today, right?
speaker-0 (06:19)
No, we ⁓ we got some stuff. We didn't mention we're like, what, two, three weeks into King of the Plies?
speaker-1 (06:51)
Yeah, King of the Plies people are already doing I'm already seeing edits and stuff first of all there people are already posting clips of their Edits that they're putting together for King of the Plies. I Don't know. Did we tell them like that seems like are you if you're posting clips? You're kind of letting the cat out of the bag
speaker-0 (07:03)
Yeah.
know, that's a kind of a flex letting people know like you're finding spots and you're you're, you're doing X amount of challenges and you're doing certain kinds of challenges and I'm excited to see.
speaker-1 (07:23)
I saw a plate with dog shit in it. That's what I saw
speaker-0 (07:25)
Dinner was served. Dinner was served.
speaker-1 (07:29)
It wasn't it wasn't like theoretical either. It was literally a plate with dog shit in it. So I think that's one of the challenges, right?
speaker-0 (07:37)
It's hardcore. It's pretty hardcore.
speaker-1 (07:39)
But that's going on right now. When does that close up?
speaker-0 (07:41)
June 10th, so they got told literally about three and a half four weeks to Submit their video we got all right. We got some
speaker-1 (07:51)
Tell
him what's the what? Tell him the boring part. What is King of the Plies? Just FYI, do the concise version.
speaker-0 (07:57)
The concise version. I don't even have my notes on that. Um, all right. So King of the plies is the largest outdoor multi-city street team finger boarding contest. It's an online video submission contest. 18.
speaker-1 (08:13)
Who the judges for the King of the Plies stuff? Who are we going to throw under the bus as far as like who wins and loses?
speaker-0 (08:19)
I hate throwing people under the bus, we've got man. All right. So we've got yeshua with sovrentro joshstovetop.fb of course, Geraldine with teak tuning, James Hagan, James.fb, Gary Graves. That's Gary Graves 22 Sam Miller. I want to say that's Sam underscore Miller 69. And of course, Levine Cunningham USAFBL judging it, critiquing it, dissecting it.
and enjoying it all at the same time. love it.
speaker-1 (08:52)
We're not going to talk about what it takes to win or anything like that. You guys should know that. But there are how many 25, 25 challenges, 24 challenges.
speaker-0 (09:01)
Yeah, 24 challenges this year. 12 of them are brand spanking new. Gary went a little hardcore on the challenges. I gave him full reign, so don't disappoint me because I don't want to scale it down. We got to scale it up. We want to see crazy spots, crazy stuff, all the antics, all the shenanigans.
speaker-1 (09:17)
We got tattoos, got hanging out of sunroofs, we got ⁓ evidently plates with turds in it. We got tons of cool stuff. That's gonna be coming at you in a couple of weeks. So what's everybody doing this for?
speaker-0 (09:28)
Yeah. So we've got $1,800 worth of cash and we've got a ton of sponsor packs, prize packs, Plies magazine covers. We've got the traveling trophy and to be immortalized in the king of the Plies vault as a winner. I love it. I love it, but we've got teams. got eight teams this year. We've got late in Utah. That's going to be team skate station.
Houston, Texas, Father's Texas Ranger Division, Visalium, California, that's gonna be Team Sari, Olympia, Washington, Lost in Transition, Greenboro, North Carolina, Social Fingerboarding Club, Oxford, Alabama, that's gonna be Team Grindhouse, and we've got the Island of Puerto Rico, that's gonna be Team 100 by 35, and Shelton, Washington, that's gonna be Salty Seamen, so.
Let me know what team in the comments that you are rooting for and who you want to see win. And let me know what city, what city you want to see put on the map for this trophy, this, this contest winner.
speaker-1 (10:33)
Just, mean, they're just literally movie quality. So it's going to be fun. All right. Section events, dude. It's, it's the summer. It's the time. It's time. It's time. It's going up and we got a list here.
speaker-0 (10:49)
I'm excited. First off, the fact that we are literally at war, high gas prices, nobody paying their bills, but we still are out here finger boarding, hosting events and doing the things like nothing is happening. Possible pandemic, the end of the world. mean, I feel like finger boarders don't even care about. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. But yeah, we've got 21 sanctioned events. We've got about 15 that are pending. So this list will be added to.
speaker-1 (11:07)
Yeah.
speaker-0 (11:18)
in addition as well. definitely keep a lookout on the updates for that. So if you are
speaker-1 (11:25)
Well, you got somewhere to go look. We got two places. They can go look at USAFBL.com or they can check in at Pliesmag.com and all the events, not just our sanction events, but all the events we gather through Plies Magazine go into that. And then the sanction events are highlighted for all those things. And we'll be adding links and things like that. If people have the ability to go to web pages and stuff for those sanction events, you can go to those.
speaker-0 (11:51)
Definitely, definitely. we should talk about the ecosystem for the sanction events.
speaker-1 (12:00)
is more the shit out of everybody. Tell them all about the ecosystem of mine.
speaker-0 (12:03)
dude, the ecosystem is phenomenal. People don't even realize like if you want to go this summer, next month to like Fast Fingers 22 for free, free free get sponsored by USFPL to go and compete on a grand world stage. mean, we got to tell them how that's done.
speaker-1 (12:22)
Yeah, we did do that. But we are doing that.
speaker-0 (12:24)
Did we?
think we are but we're gonna do it in grand. We're gonna do it. We're gonna do it grandly. Alright, so. Grandly. I like it. So, sanctioned events. That is a connected local fingerboarding community to national competition scene through official ranking standardized formats and league recognition. So, we are looking for people that normally host fingerboarding events and then we will come in and sanction those contests.
speaker-1 (12:32)
Yeah, we're going to do it greatly.
speaker-0 (12:56)
Those contests give you the ability to rank up, get medals and qualify you for our regional and national events. So when we go on tour, the next tour will be in 2027, which we're already working on and super excited about. These sanctioned events will get you pre-qualified for those regional and national events. If you win at our national event, we're going to be sending you two fast fingers, this case 23 and what's that 2028.
speaker-1 (13:23)
but they're gonna be awesome. the thing is we've got trading cards and everything else, but hey question. Now the sanction events, you don't have to do all the competitions. Like some people get like worried about being in a sanction event because they're like, well, I don't know if we wanna do everything, but you don't have to do everything. We've got combo of the year, which is our version of.
speaker-0 (13:49)
district street.
speaker-1 (13:51)
Street,
we've got line of the year, which is our version of. OK, and then we've got game of skate. So those are the three major events that we have that you can do competitions at, but you don't have to do all three of them. The only thing is, is if you're able to do multiple competitions, those pro fingerboarders get better rankings with the more competitions they participate in, right?
speaker-0 (13:55)
Run Street.
Correct. So the more contests that you participate in, the better chances of you to be able to move up the rankings list.
speaker-1 (14:23)
But you can be a sanctioned event that just has Game of Skate.
speaker-0 (14:26)
Yeah, you can only have, you can have an event that only has one contest. You have an event that has three contests. So those events are one or two.
speaker-1 (14:33)
Yeah, don't worry about how much competitions and stuff, because some people feel like if it if their whole event becomes about competitions, it kind of takes away from the vibe of the event. That's not what we're here to do. We just want to give you opportunities. Sanctioned events literally brings people to the to your event. Like they're like, oh, yeah, if it's a sanctioned event, I want to get ranked up. We usually see about, you know, a 20 to 30 person bump on most events just because, you know, they like that jewelry. Right. We've been given. don't even do it. How many?
How many awards have we given out at this point? Do know?
speaker-0 (15:05)
the course of six years yeah ⁓ man okay there's a couple hundred metals floating around out there like for sure
speaker-1 (15:10)
Well, so...
I
mean, I just saw a picture of ⁓ Baja extra blast and he had what 15 he was
speaker-0 (15:20)
Yeah, he's got like 15 medals. think he might be our most acclimated metal holder for sure.
speaker-1 (15:26)
He
a award ho.
speaker-0 (15:29)
Man, yeah, he's been doing a hardcore for like three years. So he's been racking them up.
speaker-1 (15:32)
Yeah. Okay. So, so here's the list, dude. What we got right now. What's the sanctioned event list so far? And it is growing. It's going to be adding to it. So again, you're out there. You got events that are coming up. you want to get hold of us. How do they get ahold of us to becoming a sanctioned event?
speaker-0 (15:48)
Yeah, just hit us up in our DMs at usfbl on Instagram where you can email us at info at usfbl.com.
speaker-1 (15:56)
What were you drinking?
speaker-0 (15:58)
Are you in the juice?
speaker-1 (15:59)
Are you literally, Levine, you literally on here drinking Kool-Aid?
speaker-0 (16:04)
I'm literally on here drinking Kool-Aid.
speaker-1 (16:06)
That is the most stereotypical thing I've ever seen. We're canceled. Thanks. No way. We're not canceled because you're drinking. I think we're canceling it. We're canceled because I brought it up.
speaker-0 (16:10)
Thank you. Win.
Possibly. I'd mix my Kool-Aid with a Lani Energy drink.
speaker-1 (16:20)
Okay, well, that's probably better. That's pretty wide of you. Let's. So let's get back to the the sanctioned events.
speaker-0 (16:29)
man. All right. So a couple of these have already passed, but we still got to note them because they're out here doing God's work for sure. we've got March 8th, Dallas, Texas, Phoenix, FB community, Sealy, Texas, March 21st with flippity sticks, underscore FB Dallas, Texas, Phoenix, FB community. We've got May 23rd. That's like next weekend. That's going to be white Lake, Michigan.
hosted by Grind Fingerboards. We've got St. Louis, Missouri on June 6th. That's gonna be hosted by the UYYC. That's United Yo-Yo Contest. USFBL will be there vending. I think the event itself, it's a Yo-Yo Kendama chess event. It's like a $10 entry maybe. You may have to fact check that a little bit, but the contest will be free by USFBL there at the event. So go check it out if you're in St. Louis. June 27th.
West Babylon, New York hosted by Cool Bree Skate Shop. June 27th, Houston, Texas hosted by Catman underscore FB. June 27th again, Cleveland, Ohio hosted by soulfood.fb.
speaker-1 (17:41)
What the is in the water on June 27th, man? Texas, Ohio.
speaker-0 (17:44)
hot weekend for sure a hot weekend.
All over the place, all over the country. August 8th, right? Miss June, June, July.
speaker-1 (17:55)
Did you get a phony hawk?
speaker-0 (17:58)
I don't think we did. July 11th, Traverse Michigan, phonyhawk.fb. I believe the Cleveland, Ohio event, the White Lake, Michigan event, the Traverse Michigan event. I will be in attendance. We'll bring some parks up. We'll be vending. We'll be hosting those contests and stuff up there as well. So it'll be a great time. August 8th, White Lake, Michigan again with Grindfinger Boards. We'll be in attendance there. There's the...
August 15th and 16th Ferndale, Michigan. That's DaVinci Casa. It a two day event. We're also looking to be up there as well. And DaVinci Casa, he made the cover applies. I think it was like two months ago. So check that out for free on pliesmag.com. We've got Dallas, Texas, August 16th, Phoenix FB community, September 6th, Hoshton, Georgia, All Good FB. September 13th, Indianapolis, Indiana. It's going to be hosted by Fingerscape.
speaker-1 (18:53)
Who's that?
speaker-0 (18:55)
Fingerskate. Who dat? That is Fingerskate.
speaker-1 (18:59)
Okay, fingers skate, but that's going to be in Indiana on the 13th ⁓ September.
speaker-0 (19:04)
September 13th, okay
USFBL is also gonna be there as well. We're actually looking to fun fact Cory the new guy from last Podcast he hit me in my feels he hit me in my feels I go everywhere around the country But I don't do really anything in my own city and I was like that's nonsense. So we're gonna start back up He did he called me out. He's like dude. what's going on with Indiana and I'm like you right so this fall
This fall, we're gearing up or any.
speaker-1 (19:36)
September
the 13th, the first fingers skate event ever, ever. Like I wasted. I mean, I just get back in 2010, didn't have like events like we weren't having events like this for finger boarding. So this is pretty big.
speaker-0 (19:42)
This
Pretty huge, pretty huge. September 19th, Sterling, Virginia. It's gonna be a Yo-Yo event. USFBL is going to be vending there and hosting that sanction contest there as well. The contest will be free, but I think there's an entry fee for the Yo-Yo contest. So definitely go fact check that. I'll put links and stuff in the bio for that. November 14th, Dallas, Texas, Phoenix FBE Community.
11 15th. That's what November 15th, 2026, Indianapolis, Indiana. Finger skates again. Again.
speaker-1 (20:24)
September and then November.
speaker-0 (20:27)
Exactly, exactly.
speaker-1 (20:29)
And you're trying to get as much in as you can before the end of the year because we also have another one on the 6th, right of December
speaker-0 (20:36)
Correct, so we've got the last one for the year in December. The weather's great, everything looks good, we're gonna make it a go. Okay.
speaker-1 (20:44)
So how, okay, and we also got some TBDs that we don't know exactly the dates on yet. We definitely have this FB is gonna be doing something in Lakewood, Colorado, right? And then what, Corden, Indiana, like Corden, Indiana. Now, wait a minute, something big just happened in Corden, Indiana.
speaker-0 (20:54)
Correct.
Yeah, they had their massive grand opening for their skate park and the most expensive fingerboarding parks on the planet.
speaker-1 (21:10)
So we're skating sometime we're skating on their quote tails and we're going to come in and do a finger skate event there right.
speaker-0 (21:17)
Yeah, you know, Gary Graves has got something lined up for you guys this fall, so we're going to do something sanctioned out there for sure. So.
speaker-1 (21:23)
Alright, cool. We're looking forward to that because Gordon's pretty cool place.
speaker-0 (21:27)
It's not, it's, it's a crazy little spot for sure. And I like where it's like kind of essentially located to a lot of different things. So if you guys are out there, go check it out. It's a great drive. It's open to the public. think it's open 24 seven. Don't quote me on that, but.
speaker-1 (21:39)
It's like Dawson's Creek, but it's got a couple of crazy people running around in it. Yeah. Okay.
speaker-0 (21:43)
Yeah,
exactly like that.
speaker-1 (21:47)
Alright, you want to button anything up on the ⁓ the sanctioned event front?
speaker-0 (21:52)
All right, so October 18th, 2026, Fingerskate is going to be hosting another sanction event here in Indianapolis, Indiana. Go check that out.
speaker-1 (22:03)
Hi. So these are sanctioned events. Any of these events, if you compete at them, depending on how many competitions level events they have, you can rank up, you can get your rankings for 2026. And what that did, that'll lead into our tour for 27. That'll lead into our, ⁓ into our world championships again, just like we did. Who's our world champions right now, brother?
speaker-0 (22:32)
Yes, our 2025 world champions are Mitch rushing, Tanner Hinch and Chris Daniels. we're. Man, we are having a finger boarding expedition going out to Germany to fast fingers 22.
speaker-1 (22:39)
Where are they going next month?
Ex no X exhibition or where is it when you go somewhere that's
speaker-0 (22:54)
think
that's an ex-ex-expedition? Ex-per-dition.
speaker-1 (22:57)
exhibition.
Expedition
yeah, we're an expedition to Germany
speaker-0 (23:03)
Yeah,
we're going on a journey. We're to be like Dora Explorers is going out there doing our thing.
speaker-1 (23:09)
Don't
read this. Okay. All right. So we're going to Germany. We're going to show up at fast fingers 22. We're going to, we're going to just crank all of our guys are just going to like wipe everybody out. Ramona Angelo is never going to see it coming. It's going to be a blood bath and Chris Daniels, Tanner Hinch and Mitch rushing are just going to like walk out of there.

Hahahaha
speaker-1 (23:38)
Explosions in the background as they walk away as they just dominate and destroy everything going on at fast fingers 22. Is that hyperbolic?
speaker-0 (23:49)
That's like the most America thing that you could probably say for that, but yes, I love it.
speaker-1 (23:55)
It's never
going to happen. These guys are, mean, these guys got their competition cut out for him, but we're sending the best that we got. And these, and, and let me tell you, Mitch Tanner, Chris, they went through all of it, man. They spent the whole year and they are our champions and we're proud of them. We can't wait to see what they do in Germany.
speaker-0 (24:13)
Definitely. It would be super cool if one of them was to walk away with the title, the trophy, the championship, bringing that back to America for the first time ever. mean, that's a crazy underdog kind of storyline.
speaker-1 (24:28)
Yeah, no shade to Ramon Angelo, but man, Ramon is, I mean, he's stepping it up. Like I'm seeing his edits and stuff. He's getting ready for Fast Figures 22. That's for damn sure.

Just competition aside, I mean, we're going to be in Germany for a whole week. So USFPL is sponsoring these three riders to go to Germany for an entire week. We're going to be stopping by hot spots like ASI Berlin. There's a Hotel Berlin that's got like a Black River G5 Park that's like super rare. I'm just like, we got to go check that out. There's tons of local spots. I'm excited for the local cuisine, the sightseeing.
I think Gary Graves is going to be coming with us as well. He's running a skateboard. He's doing all kinds of crazy stuff out there as well. So it's going to be a blast. It's going to be a fun time. We're going to be V logging our entire expedition out there and stuff, just door exploring it in the wild. We might get lost. We might not, who knows, but we're going to have a bunch of fun.

thing is guys right now these sanctioned events are going on this is how you get there you want to be a pro fingerboarder pay attention to the sanctioned events go rank up and right now I think we have we have over 600 fingerboarders that are in our rankings and I think we're I think we're pretty much leveling off at around two to three hundred pro level fingerboarders that have rankings that are competitive right now is that right
speaker-0 (25:47)
Yeah. So we've got lifetime stats and then we've got seasonal stats. so our seasonal stats got reset for this year. Anyone that competed at the national event, your stats are going to get rolled over automatically. We'll definitely be releasing more information and stuff like that for you guys is how the rankings and everything are to be set up for 2026 and 2027. But for now, this is the pathway. Go to your sanction events, support your sanction events, all your local finger boarding event host.

Go to the sanctioned events because some of the best of the best finger boarders are trying to be there and they deserve your respect. You know, it's cool to hang out with these guys are traveling all over the country so they can, you know, they can basically be finger boarders. And that's, that's this. What's it all about, dude?
