In this episode of the USAFBL Fingerboard Podcast, Levine Cunningham is joined by Gary Graves and Brian O'Neill for a conversation covering some of the biggest developments happening in fingerboarding right now.
Gary shares the story behind helping bring public fingerboard parks to Corydon, IN, how local kids are discovering fingerboarding through skateboarding, and the impact these parks are already having on the community. From school field trips and Boys & Girls Club events to sold-out Tech Deck shelves, the growth has been incredible to witness.
The crew also discusses the upcoming Fast Fingers 22 trip to Germany, Team USA's chances on the international stage, and what it means to represent the United States at one of the biggest events in fingerboarding.

You ever seen a video where like ⁓ Michael Jackson, every time he made a move, he realized that all the pop rocks he was snapping photos. So he'd be up there talking, he'd like make random moves and you hear like the cameras like click click click. I know, y'all know what I'm talking about here. Yeah. You're you're Hey, what are you drinking? Is that coffee? 'Cause coffee is the love of my life.
speaker-1 (00:14)
You dude, you're Michael Jackson.
You're the mat guy.
Always about coffee, dude. All right, let's not let's get all this, Levine. Because me and Lil this is me and Gary's first
speaker-0 (00:25)
Right.
Bro, I'm Levine, you're holding up the process. Come on, bro.
speaker-2 (00:33)
All
right, we're about to do this. I'm about to do this. Welcome to USAFBL Fingle Board Podcast. I'm your host of Vike Cunningham. Today I've got Gary Graves and Brian O'Neill on the mic.
speaker-1 (00:44)
Barry Ambrose?
speaker-0 (00:45)
Hey, this is the USA FBR Menage Trois episode. Can we name it that the Menage Trois episode?
speaker-2 (00:51)
Creeky. I like it. Okay.
speaker-1 (00:53)
Okay. Listen, but me and Gary, we've never been on camera together.
speaker-0 (00:56)
Actually this is the first time I've ever even talked to you. Is your name Brian? Have I met you before? You could f Hey, are we doing an after dark episode? I didn't know that language was allowed. Levine
speaker-1 (01:06)
I
do the editing so I can clip anything out I want. So you can go f yourself in your fing bunghole bullshit f by the way, Gary, I have to say something, dude.
speaker-0 (01:16)
Beep beep beep beep beep beep beep. What?
speaker-1 (01:19)
Before we get into this, dude, you're a you're a rock star. You are amazing. You and Sam have done some beautiful magical stuff in both skateboarding world and fingerboarding world. I am here for every fricking second of it.
speaker-0 (01:36)
Bro, thank you so much for saying that. It's you know, when you're passionate about something you just kinda let it flow and whatever happens, happens. So I go for it.
speaker-1 (01:43)
What did
Levine? Tell Tell the people real quick.
speaker-0 (01:47)
Fine, tell me.
speaker-2 (01:48)
You went through a very long, grueling process of getting a skate park built in your hometown. Is it your hometown?
speaker-0 (01:56)
Born
in Courtney Indiana. Like five minutes away. Yeah, it's not my hometown. I'm claiming it. It's mine now.
speaker-2 (02:01)
On the map, claim it for anyone that's like, that's not a big deal, that's a big freaking deal. Like, that is yeah, probably one of the hardest things. And I've done some hard stuff, and that is no pause, some hard stuff, and this is like that's like up there, that's like top of the ladder.
speaker-0 (02:19)
Let me let me kind of explain what's been done on Cisco really quick.
speaker-1 (02:22)
But tell tell the people this real quick. When did the ⁓ introduction and the inclusion of the fingerboard parks become a reality in that process of Cordon, Indiana?
speaker-0 (02:34)
All right, well, the whole process of the skate park, we've kind of touched based on it. It's like tw seventeen to twenty years. I'm gonna claim twenty, but I think maybe around seventeen years. When ⁓ Hunker was eventually like putting out like the survey, Hunger Skate Parks is who built our skate park. we were doing the design process and what we wanted in the park, you know. We were toying with like we were trying to get like as much as the public aware that we wanted a fingerboard park. So I was sharing it up and then I hit Levine, I like, Levine, just kind of share this to everybody, get them to hit up the survey and put
They want a fingerboard park. And so Levine shared it, we shared it, and then ⁓ like the momentum came in. Like everyone got on there and put I want a fingerboard park. So Hunger Skate Parks is like, Tell me more about these fingerboard parks. So I was like, Well, I know just the spot. So we took
speaker-1 (03:17)
Wait a minute, did you just say that you like doxxed the fingerboard park into existence?
speaker-0 (03:21)
Yeah, one hundred percent. So Bart, the guy that owns ⁓ hunger skate parks, was like, ⁓ tell me more about these fingerboard parks. So I like, I know a guy. So I took him up, introduced him to Levine, he kinda took some photos of fingerboard parks just 'cause he's never seen before, other than like, you know, like the plastic tech deck ramps or whatever. So ⁓ he got that, you know, like just kinda idea of what exactly it would look like. And then after that we just kinda like toyed with some ideas and then like about two months before we built the parks, we me and him sat down, we just designed these
two amazing fingerboard parks now like they're just being used all the time. Like the growth at the Gordon Skate Park. I'd be seeing people out there with tech decks one week and the next week they got teak tuning boards. And like it's growing and growing. And they're like, I just ordered a set of Black River trucks. And these are like little kids that have never fingerboard before in their life. And like these fingerboard parks are always being used. It's beautiful.
speaker-1 (04:07)
Dude, what he just described, Levine, is your mantra. Gary is accomplishing it and good for you.
speaker-0 (04:13)
Since the park opened up on April twenty fifth, we've hosted a couple ⁓ school field trips where we me and Sam went there and talked about skateboarding, perseverance, not giving up, following your goals, you know, like never say no. If like you want something, you fight for it and do it and like don't accept no for an answer. And then like these kids will come there, we'll like do like a little skate demo and then we'll take over to the fingerboard parks and we buy fingerboard or tech decks and we pass it out to all the kids there. today actually we just hosted a ⁓ boys and girls club meeting at the skate park and there like
twelve to fifteen kids out there and we same thing, you know, we went out there and did our thing. We talked to him, got them on a skateboard, got them on fingerboard. The ⁓ the lady hosting or the lady with the Boys and Girls Club actually expressed overnight a whole bunch of fingerboards for the event today because like I kid you not, the Walmart and everything in our area is sold out of fingerboards just from our fingerboard parks. Like they can't keep technicks in stock.
speaker-1 (05:03)
You need to put in a list. Finger skate is gonna help support you and get that stuff done, dude. We're gonna send you ⁓ we're not sending you completes, you guys can put them together, but we're gonna send you some decks and wheels and things like that and trucks and everything.
speaker-0 (05:15)
Sure. Yeah, yeah. So that's cool. I mean, Brian or ⁓ Levine, you live close. So if maybe like the next time we do one of these, come on down. I know it's a couple hour drive, but it's fun seeing these kids light up like a Christmas tree. They come out there. Some of these kids have been to a skate park before, most of them haven't. You know, we get them on skateboard, they roll around, and then you just see like their like imagination and fascination for it grow. And next to know they're talking about they want to get their own skateboards and the fingerboards are out there messing around with the fingerboards, like you just see like it's like the the interest is there. Like a lot of times there's not there won't be growth unless there's a sp
possibility for growth and that's what we're giving these kids in the local community. Yeah. ⁓
speaker-1 (05:49)
Gary Levine's losing his mind. He's gotta do all of his plugs. We gotta let him do his plugs.
speaker-0 (05:53)
Okay. ⁓ do your plugs, buddy.
speaker-2 (05:53)
Yeah, but I wanted to be
No, but I really wanted to kind of touch base on the fact that like we're seeing all of this in real time. Like we're seeing the evolution of skateboarding, fingerboarding, the crossover. We're seeing the adaptation of fingerboarding growing in real time and in front of our own eyes and being able to document it's pretty cool stuff.
speaker-1 (06:12)
If you want
to get a discount on the on the growth of that, you can use code. I'm back. Look at that. It was a horrible segue. That segue sucked, dude. Did I almost poop myself on that one?
speaker-2 (06:16)
I'm back.
Man, all right, fifteen percent off using code I'm back at plies mag dot com, usfbl.com, and fingerskate.com. Also, pli's mag issue number nineteen is out now. Shout out to CJ Morris for making it to the cover of our mag. I
speaker-1 (06:40)
Did you hold up the right magazine? Is that nineteen? that's right. I'm already working on twenty. So we got twenty in the works right now.
speaker-2 (06:42)
Yeah. That's nineteen.
We're already halfway through. We're moving.
speaker-0 (06:50)
Listen,
let me just intervene here. That's an accomplishment that we're on issue twenty of a fingerboard magazine. Like ten years ago that would have been that's unheard of. Five years ago that's unheard of. Two years ago that's unheard of, and look at us now. Issue twenty.
speaker-2 (06:59)
It's still unheard of.
speaker-1 (07:05)
Listen, no shade to anybody else, but nobody's put out more consecutive magazines than Levine right here, dude. He is he is killing it. December of two thousand twenty four is when
speaker-2 (07:15)
Started, yeah, that's the very first issue. You know what's crazier than that is the fact that we're like the only fingerboarding brand that has subscribers that pay for something on a monthly basis and gets it on time every month without worries. Every and it's one of the weird like silent flexes where I'm just like, I can't name another brand that's doing anything.
speaker-1 (07:36)
month. No delay.
speaker-2 (07:43)
like that within even like the subscription boxes or blind bags or whatever that like you can I don't even know if there's anybody that even does a subscription model of that. I mean let me know in the chat, but I'm just like, dude, we've been doing this for a very, very long time, almost two years. We've done subscriber like ship type stuff right out the gate and
speaker-1 (08:00)
Yeah, it's not a silent flex if you say it out loud.
speaker-2 (08:02)
It is kind of a side reflex. So yeah, but I was just like, Man, that's putting in it's mainly 'cause I gotta mail out like huge amounts of shipments every single month. But I'm like, I don't know who else is really kinda doing that. Like, that's kinda wild.
speaker-0 (08:13)
No, that you're all killing it for real. Why are we here? I don't even know why we're here.
speaker-2 (08:18)
Why we're here? We're here to talk about you, Gary. This is the Gary show.
speaker-0 (08:23)
So you're gonna
speaker-1 (08:24)
Whenever you were a child, who who really who really touched you inappropriately? What made you the way you are today? Tell me the truth.
speaker-0 (08:30)
Santa Claus came down the chimney. Is this an after dark episode? geez.
speaker-2 (08:34)
It's probably half.
speaker-1 (08:36)
All right. Well, I'll touch you inappropriately as if I ever get to meet you. But you and Levine are getting ready to meet. you guys have already met, but you're getting ready to go on a trip. ⁓ we're gonna talk about that first, or we'll let's talk about King of the Plies first.
speaker-2 (08:47)
Mm-hmm.
speaker-0 (08:48)
Definitely.
Why have I not been I've been I haven't really seen a lot of stuff on King of the Plaza this year. Is everybody just like gate gatekeeping it this time around or what? No, we got some action on I haven't seen too much of it. But then I've been I've been so busy I haven't really been on Instagram as much as I should be, I guess.
speaker-2 (08:57)
Going on.
speaker-1 (09:04)
Okay, Betty White. ⁓ it's all over the damn place. I've been seeing clips all the time.
speaker-0 (09:08)
Well what can I say I'm an old man now? What is social media?
speaker-2 (09:12)
Theoretically, if you're listening or watching this, you can actually go on to the USAFBL YouTube channel and go check out all of the submissions for King of the Plies because they are going to be there right now.
speaker-1 (09:25)
⁓ sh I mean Zamna busy this week. Yeah.
speaker-2 (09:27)
There
you are, June 10th is the deadline. So everybody's got to submit all their stuff. Wednesday morning, 6 a.m. Eastern is the deadline. So they got they gotta pump all that stuff out. And I am going to be crazy uploading all of these entries in here for you guys so that you guys can see all of the cool submissions, all the behind the scenes, the full edits. Tell me which one's your favorite. Tell me which one you like, tell me which one you think should win. I want all the tea. Let me know. Let me know in the comments.
speaker-1 (09:53)
Our
teams are we've got what Leighton, Utah ⁓ skate station.
speaker-2 (09:58)
Yeah, we've got Team Skate Station, Team Fathers Rangers Division out of Houston State. They're out of Lost in Transitions out of Olympia, Washington. We got Social Fingerboarding Club out of Greensboro, North Carolina. Team 100 by 35 out of the island of Puerto Rico. Salty Seaman out of Shelton, Washington. And then we've got a little bit of team drama that we've got to throw down because it's what? What happened? man. All right, so.
speaker-1 (10:03)
Houston, yeah.
speaker-2 (10:27)
Team sorry is not going to be able to put in a video submission this year. They started off strong, but their scheduling was just absolutely wild. Unable to get an entry in. So Team Sorry out of the running. And then we've also got Team Grindhouse out of Oxford, Alabama. They've got some scheduling conflictions and they're not going to be able to get their video done in time as well. So
Six teams remaining, five teams are gonna get prize packs, three of those teams are gonna get cash, one of those teams is gonna get a traveling duck trophy and the cover applies mag along with fifteen hundred dollars cash. Craziness.
speaker-0 (11:07)
And
the two teams that didn't finish up, I mean, they still got a week to knock it out. Come on now, there's no excuses here.
speaker-2 (11:11)
Do they do.
problem is is we are a couple days before the submission. So the submission deadline, they're not going to make it. They're already like, dude, we can't. We just we can't. We're too far behind. But it's already June 10th once this releases. So everybody's gonna go straight to USAFBL on YouTube and go check out all the submissions. You can also check out the 2024 lineup and the 2025 lineups, the third annual King of the Plies video submission contest.
speaker-0 (11:37)
And let us know if you think that this year's submissions is better than the last two submissions. Last two years' submissions.
speaker-2 (11:42)
Yeah,
I like the progression.
speaker-0 (11:44)
I'm excited about it. I'm excited. Hopefully we see some some b some really some bangers this year.
speaker-2 (11:49)
And we gotta we gotta get to work, Gary. We gotta judge. We got
speaker-0 (11:52)
Mean
Sam was just talking about it earlier. We're we're excited to get on get on this to see what's going on. Yeah.
speaker-2 (11:57)
Yeah,
stovetop, teak tuning, yeshua, all those guys. So we gotta we gotta we gotta put some work in. We gotta all of this stuff done by this weekend. You know why? Why? Because we're going to Germany. Germany. Country. Fast.
speaker-0 (12:07)
Why?
Germany? What's that?
Levine, okay, let me let me ask you before we get going here. Did you I know you talked a lot about it, did you end up getting a tattoo last year during any of your stuff? What?
speaker-1 (12:23)
dude, you're so right. That bitch over there talked about getting a tattoo all year long, and I don't think he did.
speaker-2 (12:26)
That
speaker-0 (12:30)
Every episode is like, I'm gonna get a tattoo, I'm gonna get a tattoo, I'm gonna get a tattoo. I don't think you got a tattoo, so I think you should get a tattoo in Germany.
speaker-2 (12:37)
tattoo being in Germany? I feel that's what
speaker-0 (12:40)
You
can get you can get Germa tattooed on your knee, so it says Germa knee.
speaker-1 (12:44)
He didn't get a tattoo when he said he was going to get a tattoo. So I think the rules have changed a little bit. I think while you and him are in Germany, you get to pick what tattoo he gets.
speaker-0 (12:54)
I just did. Germa G E R A on your knee. No.
speaker-2 (12:54)
Did on the knee.
speaker-1 (13:00)
Man, I want like a Hello Kitty or something right on his forehead. What the hell? What's you why you going light?
speaker-0 (13:04)
we could get fun with this one. Levine do have your blessing.
speaker-2 (13:10)
You've got a week to influence me into getting a tattoo. We're be gone for a whole week and we're bringing the whole squad. We're bringing Chris We're gonna be gone for you're gonna you're staying over there. That's right. All right. Tell me the plans. Because I know I know what we're doing.
speaker-0 (13:17)
Yeah.
speaker-1 (13:24)
Well l
first of all, let's do the crew first. You were doing the crew. Do the crew. Let's know who's going to Germany first. And then we'll talk about Gary's long extended stay at the brothels in Germany.
speaker-2 (13:34)
Man. Yeah, we're bringing these I I don't know even think about that. Or do I? I don't know. Yeah, we're bringing the whole squad. We're bringing Chris Daniels, we're bringing Tanner Hench.
speaker-0 (13:36)
Heroes, bro.
Ha ha.
Me neither.
speaker-2 (13:50)
We're bringing Mitch Rush, national champions from USFBL. We're bringing Team USA. They're gonna go over for a whole week. We're gonna be gallabanting across Germany, doing all kinds of cool stuff. Gary Graves is gonna be on board. So you know the antics are gonna be crazy. And if we're lucky, we can ⁓ take home a trophy, bring home some glory to the country of USA.
speaker-1 (14:10)
Do they even have a trophy? Do they give away a trophy at Fast Figures? I've never seen one.
speaker-2 (14:13)
It's a trophy that stays there, but everybody's name is on there. So like hopefully if you know we can manage to make it happen, we could have a little bit of USA legacy on this trophy that has like a it's like a buzzsaw on a on a stump. How cool would that be though to have like, you know, a little little USA on there?
speaker-1 (14:33)
USA on there, yeah.
speaker-0 (14:34)
Little USA. USA is actually huge. Hey, maybe we should plan a heist. We should plan a heist and just steal the trophy. ⁓
speaker-1 (14:37)
I want it. I want it bad.
speaker-2 (14:44)
It's like the most American thing you could say.
speaker-0 (14:46)
Yeah. You're welcome.
speaker-1 (14:47)
and so now so you and Gary, Tanner, Mitch, Chris, ⁓ Vicki, your wife's going. A lot of people have met Vicki. She's she's been at all the events and stuff. Who there's somebody else going too? Okay, I'll that that's everybody. So that's the team.
speaker-2 (15:02)
No, that's all of us.
speaker-0 (15:06)
There is my brother just booked a ticket like two days ago, so he's gonna go. yeah, he was he was like, I ain't gonna like he's missed out on a couple of trips going overseas with me and he goes like, You know what, I'm not gonna hold myself back anymore. I'm just gonna get online and book a ticket, I don't care how much it is and I was like, All right, and I didn't think he was gonna do it and he did it. ⁓
speaker-2 (15:10)
Fair enough.
Like all seven of us. Is it seven of us? I can't count. Six of us, seven of us, because we got the Airbnb outside of Schwashenbach. And ⁓ it brings me back to like the old MTV, like real world or yeah, real world. God
speaker-0 (15:39)
Let's film an episode of T V Cribs and
speaker-2 (15:42)
We
could do real world like you know, a bunch of finger borders in a house and like see all the like personalities kinda like clash after we've been there for We could we could watch all the all the drama, all the personalities just unfold, all the pressure.
speaker-0 (15:49)
Yeah, we could live stream it twenty four seven.
Pressure Smith Diamond, baby.
speaker-1 (15:59)
I can see. All right. So what are the antics gonna be, guys? What are you guys doing?
speaker-2 (16:02)
We haven't even talked about this, but I already know.
speaker-1 (16:05)
You're gonna
get a you're gonna get a rental car and you're gonna try to go down the aud Autobahn.
speaker-0 (16:10)
Drunk
on the Audubon. I already got it booked, yeah.
speaker-2 (16:11)
Gary supposedly is renting a car. ⁓
Yeah, so we're we're just gonna like speed race down the Autobahn Okay
speaker-1 (16:17)
Well,
that's not exciting. What what else? What I mean, we're going you guys are going to ASI or Aussie Berlin, which is how do you say it? Which one Aussie Berlin. Yep. ⁓ you're going to Fast Fingers twenty two. That's gonna be epic. ⁓ you're gonna do some you're probably gonna Gary's the street king, dude. Like you're gonna probably find some places to do some fingerboarding on the streets, right?
speaker-0 (16:25)
It's Aussie, Aussie.
Well I'm gonna do that, but I'm also gonna do a lot of street skateboarding as well. I'm kinda hoping that some of the crew has a skateboard that they'll bring with ⁓ Dog Ship Park is one of the best DIY parks I've ever skated in my life. It's like such a fun experience. Anybody that actually skates would have a tremendous time there. Okay.
speaker-1 (16:54)
Okay, so attention Germany, attention Swashablock, Gary Graves, the international ⁓ USA phenomenon skater is coming to your world. Let's show him some love.
speaker-0 (17:06)
Yeah, be ready, guys.
speaker-1 (17:08)
Yeah. Ready.
speaker-2 (17:09)
Be ready.
speaker-0 (17:10)
Hey,
can I throw a ⁓ can I throw a plug in here really quick? Not even a plug. Let me throw a bragging point here. July issue of Thrasher Magazine just released, and I shot the inside cover photo, and it's Bam's first ad since like the early two thousands, like two thousand ten or two thousand eight or something. It's for slime ball wheels. It's open up the cover and it's right there is him doing a rock to fakie that I shot on this like crazy looking rainbow thing in New Albany, Indiana last year, and it's finally in the magazine. It's got my name right there on the edge of it. Is that now? Yeah, as of
speaker-1 (17:36)
Is that out now? We'll
find it we'll find it. We'll try to insert it in here so people can see it. That'd be cool. Yeah, we'll definitely.
speaker-2 (17:42)
I'm definitely gonna go find
speaker-0 (17:45)
I'll autograph it. Screw bam, I'm on autograph it.
speaker-2 (17:49)
I like it. I like it. Well, the cool thing about this ⁓ photo that you took with like your name and the credits and everything, and it's like
I've always been on the creator side of plies and not on like the fan side of plies. And like I see you in the mag and I'm like, my gosh, this is what it's like for everybody else to realize that like their friend or someone they know is in a like like an issue applies magazine. And I'm like, dude, my boy Gary is in the like photo credits for Thrasher Mag, and like it got me super giddy. And I was like, this is how everybody feels. And I'm like, this is so wild.
speaker-0 (18:26)
That's crazy. I never thought of that. That's like a whole different perspective on it.
speaker-2 (18:30)
Yeah, well I'm always like on the creator side, which you know I'm creating it all, but I don't have the fan side of it because it's just weird being like it's just two sides of the coin. But for the first time, like you showed me that and I'm like, God, all excited. I'm like, dude, I gotta go buy like two or three copies of this magazine. Like I gotta go find it. Like I'm like, whoa, this is wild.
speaker-1 (18:46)
Thrifty thrifty Levine. He's gonna buy two or three copies, dude. And then you
