Conversation #18: "Try that (deconstructing and other things) in a small town"
This week, our team responded to the Jason Aldean song, "Try that in a Small Town" and ran with the themes that this song has brought up.
Phil shares an article from Clay Baker:
"Saw a bumper sticker on a Jeep in the Evanston Trader Joe's parking lot that had a silhouette of some kind of assault rifle with a text that read "Heavily Armed and Easily Pissed" and honestly that's everything that's wrong with the United States right there.
Demographically, it is likely the case that the owner of that Jeep, bumper sticker, and presumably gun is a white male. Conservative, especially to the extent that "conservative" really means "politics of white racial resentment."
This bumper sticker represents the fictitious ideal of "Try That in a Small Town." It isn't about law, it isn't about order (though "law and order" is a dogwhistle for what it is about), it isn't about respect; it's about an emotionally fragile armed white man's feelings..."
