Speaker 1:

Welcome to the get real self defense podcast. Here you get your daily dose of personal protection discussion to help you be more confident and prepared to protect yourself and your loved ones. And now let's get real with self defense.

Speaker 2:

Hey guys, adam here, hope you're all doing well this day, and what I wanted to do was more or less surprise you guys with another episode before it even really hits time for an episode to come out. The reason why I say this is because this podcast, since its inception back in February, has been a bi-monthly, or I should say bi-weekly in a month podcast. So every other week there was going to be another episode, and the reason why I've brought on this other episode right in between the tempo is due to the fact that I have an announcement to make, like I said on the title of this podcast. First and foremost, first order of business that I want to take care of is I want to say thank you. I've said it before in previous episodes, but thank you so much for taking the time to listen to this podcast and even if this is your first episode which is kind of a strange episode to jump into, I'm sure, because this is not the typical tempo or energy that we have in the podcast episode so be sure, if this is your first listen, to listen to other episodes as well to get better context. But I just want to say thank you for taking the time and being on this journey with me. Even with the amount of non-advertising I've done, this is 100% organic. Right now and now, we've actually breached well over 2,000 downloads, and just a couple weeks ago about a month ago it was 1,400. So I mean it's been growing exponentially over time with zero advertising, and now that we've hit over that 2,000 mark, advertising is about to hit, which means we're going to grow even further as a group.

Speaker 2:

The major announcement, though, that I want to share is this Aside from saying thank you, I want to share that, because of the growth and because of the feedback, I am switching up the podcast from bye weekly to weekly, so, in other words, this podcast will have an episode each and every week, every single month, every single year, for as long as this podcast is in play, which I hope is a very, very, very long time, if not till the day I die. So what that means is, even though we've been doing by weekly, the tempo for that is still going to be the same. What you can expect from that is still going to be the same, but in between, in those empty gaps that we had, they're going to be filled in with shorter episodes that are more organic and more personal, and that is my intention. My intention is to make them more organic and personal, where I'm sharing with you some of my thoughts on training, training, struggles, research on new developments when it comes to situational awareness, self-defense, de-escalation, hand-to-hand combat, whatever it is, as well as news stories Like, for instance, if this was fresh which it's not but if Kyle Rittenhouse were to just blow up on the news, we would talk about that. We would take a few minutes to talk about what's kind of going on with that. Obviously, that has passed, but that's just an example of some of the things that you can expect is news stories and my thoughts and opinions and struggles and successes when it comes to training and self-defense and keeping my family safe, so on and so forth. And then, obviously, every other week beyond that will be the normal episodes where we have interviews with the experts and actual specifics, semi-structured or fully-structured episodes on various levels of self-defense and self-defense training. So, in other words, you can think of it like official structured episodes will be every other week and in between that will be more laid-back, low-key, conversational, if you will episodes, and my guess is they're going to be about 15 minutes long. They might be longer, they might be shorter, and then, obviously, we'll have a regular schedule programming in between those.

Speaker 2:

So that's more or less what I wanted to share, as the first major announcement is that we're going to have this podcast become weekly, and this is the flagship episode for it being weekly. This will, though, not be on YouTube, so what I mean by that is, if you've been following for a while, you'd know that we've been recording these video or these episodes of the podcast on video as well, so it's actually a video podcast. When it comes to this bi-weekly format, and most recently, for those of you who are following, we did Tom Grieve from Grieve Law LLC out of Wisconsin, who was gracious enough to come on and talk about the Second Amendment and self-defense and deadly force and hand-to-hand combat when it comes to the legal side. That is a recorded video episode, but this one that you're listening to right now is not going to be on video, so just understand that every other week, there will be a video, one of the official quote unquote structured episodes, and then in between, these are more the personal conversations that I'm going to have with you guys, strictly on the podcast format and until I get better feedback otherwise from you guys that you want in video format. That's how it's going to be, but just keep in mind that these will be found strictly on the podcast platform that you're listening to and is not going to be in a video format on YouTube or Instagram or anything like that as far as video goes.

Speaker 2:

Now the final announcement and is one of my attempts to be more personal with you guys is for those of you that have been listening for a while. You know that I am a father of two kids, and two boys specifically, and I'm about to be a father times three with a third boy. Now this child is supposed to be born somewhere in October, and I say somewhere because the wife has gestational diabetes and for the time being and that basically for those of you that don't know just means that her sugars are off and it has to do with the pregnancy and the growth of the baby, like the shoulders and the head and stuff like that can grow way larger than a normal child would without gestational diabetes and that can affect how difficult or easy, from what I understand, the child is going to be born. So the doc is very adamant about trying to be weekly about our visits so that we can make sure that the blood sugars are okay and therefore decide how soon the child should be induced or not. It doesn't sound like the child is going to go to full term, which would have been like the third end of the third week of October, so now it's somewhere between, basically, the fourth and the 19th, so I could be a father at any time from that point forward.

Speaker 2:

Times three. I'm very excited about that and it just goes to show and remind me by this another child in the way that it's about to be born that unless you've experienced fatherhood or motherhood, this might be kind of difficult to understand, but it just really reaffirms for me why self defense is important and why being a good protector for my family is important, why I'm the only one that can respond immediately. You know we have law enforcement. I'm law enforcement myself. We come minutes when it takes seconds for something to happen, and the fact that as a parent, I have the privilege and the responsibility of making sure that my wife is safe, that making sure that my children is safe is pretty awe inspiring and pretty daunting at the same time, and it's one of those things where you know keeping yourself safe is very important, and then it's just crazy, awesome and motivating how having a family will remind you how important keeping them safe is, and obviously their lives are more important than my own, and I'm sure many of you feel the same way about your own family, your own kids, your own friendships. Even those are things to just consider, and so I'm very excited to be a dad times three, like I've said, about four times now. So, either way, guys.

Speaker 2:

What this will mean, though, is that programming will still continue.

Speaker 2:

Just because I'm having a kid doesn't mean I'm taking a break or anything like that.

Speaker 2:

We'll have episodes ready to go ahead of time before any of that needs to happen, and so, with that, guys, I'm so grateful that you guys are on this journey with me. I will be sharing some pictures later on on places like Instagram, once the child's born, so, if you haven't already, be sure to follow me at smart, safe defense all one word, and that's on Instagram, and it's also on YouTube, but that'll be, as far as Instagram goes, the place where I'll be sharing being a dad again.
