Phoenix Raceway played host to not only the 4th round of the year for NASCAR, but also was the debut ground for the new short track package for the Cup Series. With 30 percent less downforce, it provided some improvement to the short track racing. However it was unable to stop the wave of Hendrick Motorsports dominance that has fallen upon the Cup Series at the moment, despite Kevin Harvick's best efforts
