Cecily Lachapelle (01:34.273)

Hi everybody. I'm so excited. I'm so excited that you guys are all here. Thanks for joining me. I'm Cecily LaChapelle and welcome to our first weekly live stream. Yay. This space is for people like you and me, those who love Jesus, but sometimes we feel a little stretched too thin. We might feel distracted, overloaded.

Cecily Lachapelle (02:00.845)

But it's also for those of us who want to learn ways to stay close to Jesus and run our race well. So in case you don't know me, I'm an author, a teacher, a podcaster, and a mom of six awesome grownups and a grandmother nanny to eight amazing little grand nuggets. But more than all that, I'm someone who's stumbled, who's gotten back up, who's been through a lot, and I've learned that

Cecily Lachapelle (02:29.705)

My pursuit of Jesus is what keeps everything from falling apart. So I started this live stream because I want to help you in your pursuit of Jesus. So we have every week, we're going to be talking about real things. I'm going to bring to the table the areas where I've stumbled, the wisdom that I've learned through the Holy Spirit, the habits that have kept my fire from burning out, even in tough times. And I'm even going to teach you how to study the Bible for yourself.

Cecily Lachapelle (02:59.404)

because I am convinced that understanding the Bible deeply changes everything. And I chose to do this live instead of just pre-recording content because I want this to be a conversation, not just a monologue. So you can ask questions, you can share your thoughts, and you can even request prayer right here in real time. So first of all, I want to shout out to Christine Wenger. Hey, how are you? So good to see you.

Cecily Lachapelle (03:29.121)

I'm so glad that you're here. Make sure that you jump in and let me know when you're here because I just want to, I want to say hi to people as you join. It's so fun to know that there's community here. All right. And I also want to encourage you, mark this day and time, Tuesdays at 7.30. there's Manu. Awesome. Good to see you. So mark this day and time, Tuesdays at 7.30. This is when you can make your connection with me. And this is when we're going to grow together as a community and as a tribe.

Cecily Lachapelle (03:59.575)

my gosh. Hey, Dawn, good to see you all the way from Vegas. Dawn Ward, another great friend of mine and fellow author. So wonderful. Well, and also if you find value in what I'm sharing, please spread the word. Please spread the word because that's how the algorithm spreads it to other people that want to find this kind of comment. I mean, find kind of content. So if you find value in what I'm sharing,

Cecily Lachapelle (04:28.701)

I invite you right now to click the reminder bell on YouTube and also share this live stream with a friend who needs encouragement. So now it's time to grab your journal, your coffee, your tea, your seltzer, whatever you're drinking, and let's get ready to dive into our topic for this evening, which is one that has truly marked my life. In this live stream tonight, we're going to discuss the importance of creating sacred space and consistently showing up there.

Cecily Lachapelle (04:57.621)

I see John LaChapelle. I wonder who that guy is. Great name though, man. Love that name. All right. Well, can I be honest with everybody here? I have to be honest. I know many of you who are tuning in right now are struggling to create or maintain a sacred space and a consistent time with the Lord. I know that because over the last six months, I've had probably 12 conversations with men and women.

Cecily Lachapelle (05:27.553)

who have said almost the same thing verbatim. They've almost all said, and I don't even know why they sort of like blurt this out to me, why they just sort of feel like they have to come clean, but they'll say something to the effect of, gosh, I feel really bad. I really haven't been able to get into my Bible lately. It's been such a crazy season. I mean, how many of us are saying that, right? such a busy season. it's a crazy season. Or, I just have so much on my plate right now. And these people are not lying.

Cecily Lachapelle (05:56.225)

I mean, they're looking at death of loved ones. They're looking at moving. They're looking at getting different jobs. They're looking at just having gotten married. So life does throw things at us. It can make us busy. can throw challenges. It can throw grief. It can throw a lot of to-dos and tasks. Sometimes we go through seasons where it seems like everybody wants or needs something from us. And so these people are coming to me and saying, almost like I'm a priest behind a confessional.

Cecily Lachapelle (06:26.253)

I just feel so bad. I don't have time for the Lord. I just don't have time to be in prayer. I don't have time to read the Bible anymore. And it's almost as if in their mind, and I can say this because I've been there and I've thought these thoughts. So this is me confessing too. When we're in those seasons, we feel like, well, this will eventually end. When this season is over, I'll get back to really studying the Word.

Cecily Lachapelle (06:56.139)

or when this season is over, I'll really press in to know the Lord more. Or when I hear the right podcast or I hear the right sermon, that inspires me. Then I will take some time with the Lord. But let me tell you something you may have never heard before. If you're not taking time to develop your relationship with God, then you don't know who you are.

Cecily Lachapelle (07:23.745)

You don't know who you are. I'm to say it again. If you are not taking time to develop your relationship with God, you don't know who you are. Because if you're a born again child of God and you're not having regular time to study the word of God and commune with him spirit to spirit in intimate fellowship, then you don't have the revelation of who you really are. Because when you accepted what Romans calls the free gift,

Cecily Lachapelle (07:53.749)

of new birth, your spirit became new, alive unto God. You received a brand new spirit. The word says that old things have passed away, all things become new. You become a new creature in Christ, a child of God. From that moment on, you were translated out of this world, out of the kingdom of darkness, into the kingdom of God's dear son, as Ephesians tells us. So the brand new born-again you is the real you.

Cecily Lachapelle (08:22.879)

and I've got news for you, that's the eternal you. So this person, this persona that we try to be out of our soul, that is the soulish us. All the things that we do in this life, you know that they're all just kind of gonna go away unless it's empowered by eternal grace. So what does this have to do with having consistent time with the Lord? Well, beside everything.

Cecily Lachapelle (08:51.953)

In communion with God, that is where our spirit, our true self, receives wisdom, instruction, direction, and anointing for our eternal purpose. Now, our soul can receive those instructions and revelations, but only by renewing the mind and thoughts through the Word and through fellowship with the Holy Spirit.

Cecily Lachapelle (09:21.867)

Hey, Linda Sullivan, good to see you. Thanks for popping in. So like I was saying, if you are taking time in the secret place to teach your soul the language of heaven, then your soul can understand and make decisions based on what your spirit is communicating. I know that many of us understand this. We know that you're, a three-part being. We know that we're a spirit, that we have a soul and we live in a body.

Cecily Lachapelle (09:52.117)

But we don't act like we know that. We act like we are a soul that has a spirit and is driven by a body. So if our soul is not being fed a regular diet of the word, and it is not trained to still itself, to listen to that still small voice of the Holy Spirit as he speaks to and through our renewed human spirit,

Cecily Lachapelle (10:21.951)

then our un-renewed soul will lead our life. It will be in the driver's seat. So let me ask you this, put your answer in the chat. If you could choose between having the creator of the universe lead your life, giving you strategies and anointing for your everyday life or your own soul with all of its baggage and its limitations, who would you choose to lead your life?

Cecily Lachapelle (10:51.979)

Put a one in the chat if you want God, the creator of the universe to lead your life. I know I do. I know I do. But I think you're probably seeing it now. When we choose to run out of the house, throw up a quick meaningless prayer for help or protection, and tackle the challenges of our life through the soul and the flesh,

Cecily Lachapelle (11:20.831)

then we have put the soul in the driver's seat. And that's why I say, if you knew who you were, hey, Halls, good to see you, you would never skip time with the Holy Spirit. If you knew that the real you is your spirit, because that's the part of you that is born again of incorruptible seed, then you would realize that the work you do on earth can be empowered by the spirit of the living God, not.

Cecily Lachapelle (11:49.173)

trying to do it by the power of your soul, but God will never force you. He'll let us keep spinning our wheels, thinking we're getting ahead and getting closer to our definition of success because we're doing the things that God help us, we see modeled in the world. But what if God's definition of our success is not what we're chasing? Could that be why we are so tired and depleted?

Cecily Lachapelle (12:18.571)

And I know that many of you listening to this live stream and listening to the replay are tired. Not just, I need a nap tired, but soul tired. You're carrying the weight of a life that looks full, but is empty. You're working, you're managing the house, you're raising kids, you're trying to keep everyone happy. You're volunteering for everything. You're the yes man or the yes woman. And yet,

Cecily Lachapelle (12:47.357)

somewhere deep down, you know something's missing. You know you've lost something. You've lost quiet. You've lost stillness. You've lost that feeling of being in lockstep with the Lord, like you were holding his hand and you were walking at the same pace. You've lost that sacred space where you used to meet with God and honestly feel him. And maybe if you're really honest, you...

Cecily Lachapelle (13:15.959)

admit that you can't remember the last time that you really felt his presence. didn't just sing about it. You didn't just hear about it. But you really felt his presence. Does any of that resonate? Let me know in the chat if any of that resonates with you. Well, and I know, I know it's not because you don't love God. It's not, it has never been because I don't love God. It's because life is loud.

Cecily Lachapelle (13:44.905)

And the enemy loves loud because the enemy isn't afraid of a busy Christian. He's afraid of a kneeling one, a praying man or woman who knows how to stop and listen and draw strength from the Lord. So before we go further, I do want to take a quick moment and ask you to like this video and subscribe to my channel because that helps more people find messages just like this.

Cecily Lachapelle (14:14.389)

people who are hungry for God, but need help learning how to meet him in their everyday lives. So let's get back to our discussion. As we were saying, life is loud and we're expected to do it all. At least we feel like we're expected to do it all. Work, raise kids, volunteer, keep a perfect home, stay fit, be endlessly available. And social media makes it look like everyone else is nailing it, right? And we feel like failure is trying to keep up.

Cecily Lachapelle (14:44.619)

Or am I the only one? Maybe I'm the only one. But the truth is, God never asked us to carry all of that. And even when we are in a season when the requirements of our life can't be adjusted, we need to remember that Jesus, who was carrying the biggest assignment in all of human history, made time to get along with his heavenly father because he knew that even as God in the flesh,

Cecily Lachapelle (15:15.007)

He had to be empowered by the Holy Spirit.

Cecily Lachapelle (15:19.915)

Luke 5 16 says, Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed. Psalm 46 10 says, be still and know that I'm God. I can't tell you guys how many times I have had to say that to my ADD brain, be still and know that he is God. Be still and know that he is God. I have the jumpiest brain.

Cecily Lachapelle (15:49.407)

the jumpiest brain. So I have to have scripture in my pocket to be able to focus my brain, focus my mind, and then my heart and emotions follow on an image, on a concept, on an idea, on a thought, a revelation of the Lord. And that's when sacred space becomes more than just a corner of our home, more than a seat by a window or

Cecily Lachapelle (16:18.833)

sitting in your car in your workplace parking lot. It's a covenant place. It's a meeting place with the Almighty God where transformation happens, where we can expect to meet with the living God, the living God. The other day, I was just moved to tears, probably I should say more wrecked in tears.

Cecily Lachapelle (16:49.223)

When I began thinking about the fact that when God descended on Mount Sinai, he was so excited that his people were finally there to meet with him. He led them like a shepherd through the Red Sea, his footprints driving the waves away and creating dry ground for his people to follow behind him. And he comes down like an excited bridegroom.

Cecily Lachapelle (17:18.133)

to meet his bride. And because he's God, when he touches down on the mountain, the earth just has to respond. And of course, there's lightning and the earth is shaking. That's the earth's response to the everlasting outside of time and space God making an impact with earth. And I'm sure it was frightening.

Cecily Lachapelle (17:48.085)

But that was actually God being condescending to his people to try to appear in a way that didn't blow them all up. And yet even in his condescension and his excitement to be with his people, to see his bride, they were scared and they didn't want him. And they sent Moses instead. And Moses went up and he had that intimate experience with the living God.

Cecily Lachapelle (18:18.514)

But God just wants us, even when we don't know how to approach him, even when it seems hard and dark and mystical, and I don't even know what I'm doing here, Lord. He is more excited about you coming to him than we ever are about coming to him. So I just wanted to know in the chat, tell me, do you already have a sacred space in your home?

Cecily Lachapelle (18:49.361)

Tell me about it. Is it at your kitchen table? Is it your dining room table? I know that was me. I only got an office, I don't know, maybe five, seven years ago. My daughter could probably correct my numbers, but when my final daughter moved out, I took over the girl's bedroom and made it my office. And so then I finally had this place. But until then with six kids in the house and dog and a cat, we were always...

Cecily Lachapelle (19:15.759)

I was just at the kitchen table and my husband was at the dining room table or the other way around. So tell me where your, where your sacred space is or where you wish you could set it up. Well, I just wanted to share with you a story because I've heard so many stories from people recently about how they're so busy and they feel so guilty about not having time with the Lord anymore. I wanted to just share with you a time that I went through that and what happened.

Cecily Lachapelle (19:45.073)

So was when I started working at Starbucks and I found out that I could work at Starbucks for part-time hours yet receive full-time benefits. And at the time, having full-time benefits, corporate full-time benefits was gonna be a huge financial help for my family and I could work mother's hours. But mother's hours meant that, hey Stephanie, good to see you. Good to see you guys.

Cecily Lachapelle (20:13.361)

So mother's hours meant that I had to be in at 6.50 in the morning and I still had three teenagers that I had to make sure were out of bed so my husband could take them to school and all that. So I was hitting the snooze until 5.50. That was the last possible minute until I had to get out of bed and I had an hour to get myself ready and get lunch packed for everybody and get to work by 6.50. The problem was

Cecily Lachapelle (20:42.919)

That was the time that I had been doing my devotions. And so that time was gone. And I couldn't replace it anywhere. Once my day started, it was busy and I am toast at night. If I'm horizontal, I'm all done. So I can't read the Bible in bed. couldn't really study it in bed. So I lost my quiet time. And I don't know if I just thought that somehow magically God was going to put some more hours in the day or he was going to sort of do a slinky thing and expand my time. I don't know.

Cecily Lachapelle (21:13.051)

But it was a few months before I realized that I had gone from a nice, plum to a raisin spiritually. I felt like I was in a spiritual desert. And so I cried to the Lord. I felt so guilty. I didn't feel like me anymore. I didn't feel, I couldn't feel any zeal or passion or I'd try to sing or worship or pray. And it was just so flat.

Cecily Lachapelle (21:43.571)

And I knew I needed to be in the Word. I'd been a Christian long enough. So I'm having all the corresponding feelings of I'm terrible and I'm letting God down and I'm letting me down, blah, blah, blah. So I would talk to the Lord about it. And the Lord would say to me every single time, you need to wake up at 430 in the morning. To which I thought, you know who you're talking to, right? It's me. I'm the one who hits the snooze until 550 and I can barely roll out of bed.

Cecily Lachapelle (22:11.889)

barely get my carcass out of bed at 550. So to dial that back by an hour and 20 minutes, no way. You can part the Red Sea, but good luck getting me up at 430. And so I pressed back on that, kind of like, God, come up with another strategy. I'll keep coming to you and asking. And then when you finally come up with a strategy I can actually do, we can finish this conversation. Then one day I was at a woman's event at my friend's house and there was another friend standing in the foyer.

Cecily Lachapelle (22:41.251)

And just like these people who over the last six months have been coming to me and pouring their guts out about how they haven't had time in the word, that's what I did to my friend. I sort of did this confession thing out of nowhere saying, you know, I don't have time with the Lord anymore. I feel so dry, blah, blah, blah. And she said, well, that's easy. You just have to wake up at 430.

Cecily Lachapelle (23:02.043)

I was like, what, what is happening here? I've been hijacked. That was, that was crazy business. God knew I would say no to him. That's terrible. But I wouldn't say no to her out of pride. And she said, it's easy. I'll, I'll text you at 430 in the morning and, make sure you're up. Well, out of pride, was absolutely no way I was going to allow her to text me first. So at 428, I'm texting her saying, I'm up, I'm up. It's all good.

Cecily Lachapelle (23:31.239)

three days in a row and then she stopped texting. She knew I was good to go. And that was actually a turning point because I realized that God met me when I decided to prioritize my sacred space again. He gave me the grace, but I had to decide first. And then he gave me the grace to trust him, to help me wake up at 430, not easy, and still have energy to make it through my day. So.

Cecily Lachapelle (23:58.967)

That's my story. Not sure if it encourages anybody. Hope it does. So here's what my Bible study time looks like. And like I said, I really feel convinced that we have to have a combination of the word and the spirit. Because if we just have the word, we can become a Pharisaical talking head. But if we just have the spirit, we can become a granola Christian, you know, the fruit, flake, or the nut. So we have to have

Cecily Lachapelle (24:28.583)

both the Word and the Spirit. So I'm fortunate. I understand my schedule is not like everybody's. I'm working from home. I'm doing ministry from home. But my Bible study is from 4.30 to 6.15. And then my husband and I go down to work out. And then about 7.15, I can come back up to my office and do what I call tabernacle time. And that's where I turn the lights down. I turn on soaking music. I light a candle.

Cecily Lachapelle (24:57.755)

I do all of this. change the atmosphere in my office because this is where I am all day. You can see behind me. It's white. I call it my ivory tower. I am in this light, bright white office all day, sometimes for like 14 hours. So for me to turn this into a sacred place, I had to put up a little Chinese screen so that I can't see my desk that represents all the stress and all my tasks. And then I

Cecily Lachapelle (25:27.473)

get on my knees and I open my Bible and I let the word speak back to me, the word I studied in the morning. I let it now do that deeper work. Jesus, where are you in that scripture that I read? What do you want to say to me? I'll give you an example just yesterday. And I'm going to cry. I was reading in Matthew about how Jesus sent his disciples ahead of him.

Cecily Lachapelle (25:56.711)

when it was time to prepare his last Passover. And he gave them specific details. When you read it in John, there's even more specific details where he says, you're going to see a guy, he's going to have a water pitcher, follow him, he'll take you to the house, say that the master wants to have Passover here and that he'll let you and then prepare the Passover. You see that word of knowledge. You see how he saw every detail laid out.

Cecily Lachapelle (26:22.183)

so that he could accurately describe it to his disciples exactly what they were going to encounter. And then the Holy Spirit told me, he saw his crucifixion too. He saw the scourging, he saw every detail, and he still chose me. He still chose you. He saw it all. None of that took him by surprise. Thus, the drops of blood in the garden. And so I studied that.

Cecily Lachapelle (26:51.385)

in the first part, and then I worship with that in the second part. And I have intimacy with the Lord and allow him to reaffirm who I really am, his daughter. And that's where the word and the spirit makes something so powerful. It's like you stack the wood on a fire and when you come in with intimacy,

Cecily Lachapelle (27:20.743)

That's when you like the match. You have to have both to have that heat. love how Psalm 84, verse one and two and verse four says, how lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord of hosts. My soul longs, yes, faints for the courts of the Lord. My heart and flesh sing for joy to the living God. Blessed are those who dwell in your house.

Cecily Lachapelle (27:49.433)

ever singing your praise. One of the reasons I love looking at scripture in the Hebrew or in the Greek is because you find out these cool little things like that word for dwell, blessed are those who dwell in your house. Another word, another translation for that word is marry. So blessed are those who marry your house, ever singing praise. Let us always just be married to his presence.

Cecily Lachapelle (28:17.937)

We get to go in with that intimacy. get to go in with that regularity. We get to go in with consistency, growing an understanding of who our beloved truly is, letting him sing songs over us. And then James 4.8 says, draw near to God and he will draw near to you. So guys, our key takeaway is that God doesn't need our perfection. He just desires our presence.

Cecily Lachapelle (28:46.213)

and he'll meet us the moment we decide to show up. But the grace doesn't come before we make that decision. comes after. Grace empowers action. So when we decide to act, the grace, that wind beneath our wings is there. And now I want to tell you about a practical resource that I created to help you create and maintain your sacred space. I created a free video and a checklist.

Cecily Lachapelle (29:15.761)

to help you set up and maintain your sacred space. Maybe you already have it and it looks like many of you in the chat already do have that space, but maybe somebody that you know doesn't. Maybe you're having conversations with people and they're saying to you, gosh, don't even know how to get into the word. I don't know how to create a time with God. I'll set it and then life changes. So in the video, I give you simple setup ideas

Cecily Lachapelle (29:45.947)

mindset tips, daily habit structure. And I encourage you right now to download it after the live stream so you can take action on that today. And if you plan to start setting up your sacred space this week, or if you plan to get back to your sacred space this week, drop a praise hands emoji in the chat. I love those. And don't forget to like this video and subscribe.

Cecily Lachapelle (30:14.287)

if this is a blessing to you. So now I just want to take a few moments to pray over you and to listen to what the Lord is saying to you tonight. And if you need a word of prayer, just drop your name or you can drop the whole request in the chat.

Cecily Lachapelle (30:32.007)

I thank you, Lord God, for your presence. I thank you, Lord, for the people that have joined this live stream, God. I thank you, Father, that you are here. You are merciful. You are wonderful. You are wonderful, God. Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah.

Cecily Lachapelle (30:57.147)

I know that there's a friend of mine named Manu on this live stream and Manu, you've been on my heart all day. And I believe that the Lord has a word for you. And that Psalm 84 scripture is your scripture for this season. The Lord says that sacred space is your lifeline. So guard it and protect it. Show up there even when your life feels overwhelming, when you feel like you have too many things on your plate.

because the Lord said that you are the delight of his heart and he loves you and he is just so pleased with your giving and your selfless heart. And I just, believe that the Lord is saying to you that you are coming into a season of fire, fire, fire in the Holy Spirit. There are gifts.

on the inside of you that are coming alive in this season. So build the fire, put the Kinlan on because he's about to light the match and it's going to be an amazing, amazing season that you're about to enter into. So praise the Lord, praise God.

And for all of us who are here, I just pray for every person watching this live stream now or watching the replay. And Father God, I thank you that you are giving us all a renewed hunger for you. That you are pouring out a grace upon us to prioritize sacred time with you, to schedule that time and to keep our appointment, to make our vows to you like wedding vows and to keep them sacred. I pray for restoration of passion.

and clarity in their walk with you. I thank you, Father. I thank you, Father, that you are downloading these things by your Holy Spirit in Jesus' name. Amen. Amen. Well, guys, thank you so much for joining me tonight. And don't forget to download that free resource. The link for that will be in the description when I post it. And don't forget to join next week's live stream, because next week I'm to be talking about a pathway

Cecily Lachapelle (33:18.376)

into God's presence that we see illustrated in the tabernacle of Moses. And I know that might sound like, what? The tabernacle of Moses, it's like about intimacy with the Lord and approaching God. I don't get that. Trust me. If you're a person who has ever just said, okay, God, I'm going to sit in your presence. I'm waiting on the Lord. And then all you hear is crickets and you just don't know. Like, I don't know. What am I doing? What am I doing here? Lord, maybe like me.

You need a map. And the tabernacle of Moses has been my map. So I'm excited to share that with you guys. So if tonight encouraged you, please like the video, subscribe to the channel. And that simple act helps the algorithm share this with others who are hungry for God. And until next week, may the Lord bless you and keep you and draw you deeper into his presence this week. God bless and I'll see you next time.
