The HOPE Zone...where there's HOPE for every situation!
I'm Brenda Caldwell, aka Dr. B. Welcome to the Hope Zone, moving you from a place of hopelessness and brokenness to a place of healing and hopeness. A place where hope is alive to bring you more peace, more joy, more freedom, and more understanding of your God-given purpose. Let's enter the hope zone. Hi, and welcome into another edition of the Hope Zone with me, Brenda Caldwell, aka Dr. B. Yes, you've entered the Hope Zone where there is hope for every situation. Yes. And we're in episode number 161 today. And before we get started, do me a favor go ahead and hit the subscribe button and hit that notification button so that you can get the next dose of hope uploaded to you every single Monday. Yes, that's what we do. Every single Monday, we put a fresh new dose of hope in the earth. Yes, and I do this podcast for you. Yes, you. And today I want to inspire you. Today is a just a simple message, but one I believe that would be encouraging. I kept thinking, what do I need to talk about today? What do I need to talk about? And what kept coming to me is never stop chasing your dream. Never stop chasing your dream. You know, it's so important that to know that, you know, if you go back to childhood, do you remember being a child when you had dreams you were gonna be a police officer and a nurse and a doctor, you know, and an attorney. You were gonna be so many things, and you were gonna be tired. All right, you're gonna be tired with all of that. But it's just it's it's amazing how when we're children, the sky's the limit. There are no limits. We just see the possibilities. We see so much for our lives. We just we're not inhibited, we're not afraid, we're not afraid to think big. And if we're not, you know, we're not afraid to dream big. It's just amazing what happens when you're a child. But then you begin to get older and you begin to come up against life, right? Life has setbacks and disappointments, and you didn't get the dream dream job coming out of college, you know, get stuck with student loans. I mean, there's a lot of different things that may happen that sometimes deter us from the dream that was in us, you know. But I want to encourage you today. I want just to, I want you to know that it's never too late to dream. I love that song by Sherry Jones Moffat that says, it's not too late to dream because it's not. You know, so many times we're inhibited by by an age, we by by a number, that's that's our age. Why? You know, that's not God. God doesn't say that. I mean, the best of your life is still in front of you if you're still breathing. That means there's still time. What is God putting you? What idea do you have that you have not been able to shake? Oh my God, what is it? What is it that if you didn't have to be concerned about money, and you didn't have to be concerned about taking off work to do it, what would you put your time into? What is it that you would pursue? What would you really pursue if you didn't have these natural limitations? Money, you know, a job, uh, bills to pay, family to feed, those kinds of things. If you could just risk, what would it be? What would you pursue? What idea? What goal? What vision? What is it still in you that's burning? Oh my God. And you just you just can't shake it. You you know, sometimes we tell people our dreams too soon, too quick, and people, because the vision wasn't given to them, they don't see it, therefore they try to talk you out of it. They call themselves trying to help you, but in that sense, they're really being dreambusters. You have to be careful who you share your dream with. Be careful who you share anything with uh that you're working on, because people, it's not even about somebody taking it. People can talk you out of it and they can cause you to lay it down. And then you turn around and looking on television or looking on social media, and you see somebody with that same idea that you had. Only difference is they acted on it and you didn't. Wow. Never stop dreaming, never stop chasing your dream. You know, I have one of my uh prize uh pieces that I have in my art collection, is that of a cheetah. A cheetah uh is the fastest land animal in the world, and I have this piece uh that I created, which is a three-dimensional canvas sculpted piece, all designed out of paper towel as my medium, but it shows the cheetah in motion. It really shows it in motion and it's focused. And I use written language with all my pieces, and it simply says, never stop chasing your dreams. A cheetah is just focused until it gets to where it's going. And I believe it can go something like up to 60 miles an hour or something. It just is incredible how fast a cheetah can go uh in in 60 seconds. Um, and so listen, don't stop chasing, stay laser focused. You might not get there like a cheetah, cheetah gets gets there fast. It's not about getting there fast, but it is about continuing to move, continuing to work. Even if you have a nine to five job and you have an idea, you got a vision, you got this dream, don't be afraid to work late at night. You know, don't be afraid. If you give a nine to five job, the the you know, the best of your energy and things during the day, how much more hours can you give yourself and give to your dream? It's important to understand and know that you have the power within you. You can have the hope and you can have the faith. And if you mix those together, you can see your dream come to pass if you don't give up. Hope gets you up, faith gets you going. You gotta have both of those working in order for you to achieve that dream. But the most important thing is for you to know that don't don't ever stop. Don't don't ever stop chasing your dream. Don't ever stop believing, don't ever stop working toward it. Don't ever stop. Don't ever stop. Whether you get it in your lifetime or not, die trying. Come on. It's better to die trying than to never have tried at all. Right? You don't want to be thinking one day, you know, much, much, much, much later in life, I would have, I could have, I shoulda, I almost, but I didn't. Oh my God. How many people are saying that right now? You know, they're somewhere, you know, sitting in a barbershop talking about, man, I would have did this, I could have did that. No, no, no, no, don't live with regrets. Don't live life with regrets. Do it now. Do it afraid. Do it shaking in your boots. Do it without money, but do it. Nike says, just do it. They famously uh, you know, came up with a what looks kind of like a uh a check mark almost, a swoosh, and they say just do it. Just do it. Stop talking about it and just do it. Just make it happen. Make it happen with your mouth, make it happen with your confidence, make it happen with courage, make it happen with planning, make it happen with writing the vision, but make it happen. You're the only one who can make it happen. You're the only one that can speak life to your dream, to your vision. You're the only one who literally, I mean, like, what's the difference between who people who really have ideas and people who really have ideas but don't act on it? There's a lot of people that have brilliant ideas. I'm telling you, brilliant ideas, but they never act on it. Don't be one of those people. Don't don't be somebody that ends up being jealous and envious and resentful down the road of life because you didn't move, you didn't act, and you see somebody else being successful. You know, like they say, don't, don't, don't hate on other people. I don't really like that word, don't hate on, but but don't be envious and don't be jealous. And if you're working on something, you don't have to work on something that's huge and and big that other people may think, but there's a dream, there's a vision, there's a goal, there's something in you that that you you can't shape. You may be scared to talk about it because you may think it's too big and people are gonna think it's too big. Well, don't tell those people, huh? Don't talk to those people. Work work in secret. Work in secret, talk to God about it, talk to prayer. If there's a trusted comfort that that's a visionary, see, you gotta be careful who you talk to because if you're talking to people about dreams and goals, and then they are not uh dream goal-oriented people, they're just satisfied with the status quo of, you know, just day-to-day living, day-to-day, you know, survival, that they're they're they're many times they're not going to really want to hear what you're doing because it kind of for them sheds a light on what they're not doing, and sometimes people resent that. It's called the crab mentality. Hmm, right? The crabs in the bucket. You don't want one crab to crawl, crawl out of the bucket, you pull them back down. Ah, yeah, that's kind of human nature in some ways. No, but it's important who you surround yourself with. You want to surround yourself with dreamers, surround yourself with visionaries, surround yourself with people who think big, surround yourself with people of faith, surround yourself with people who are encouragers, surround yourself with people who can speak life to you when you share what your dream is. I'm a dreamer at heart. I mean, I I've always been a person that has had vision for ideas, I've plans, I I've I've always been able to see more. And not not not everything I've wanted to do has come to pass, and that's the truth. But it doesn't stop me from believing, doesn't stop me from seeing it, doesn't stop me from wanting it, doesn't stop me from working on some things. You gotta be working on something. You need to be working on something. You know, sometimes we're working on ourselves, you know. You're working on yourself before you can, you know, get to where you need to be. Sometimes we're working on ourselves, meaning we're working on our confidence, we're working on healing from some things from the past so that we can no longer be uh jaded in our uh outlook on life, right? We're no longer holding bitterness and anger and resentment, you know. But but whatever you're working on, have a dream, have a vision. You know, God's word says, My people perish for, he says, my people perish for lack of knowledge, but there's another scripture I was really thinking about where he says, without vision, without vision, the people perish. So without having something that you can see, something that you're working on. I mean, Helen Keller, who was um uh born blind and deaf and became a champion uh for the blind and deaf, has a famous quote that says, The only thing worse than being blind is having sight with no vision. Woo! Ooh, that dropped several mics right there. The only thing worse than being blind, like physically blind, is having sight, but no vision. That's deep. God's word tells us write the vision. In order to write the vision, you gotta have a vision. What's your vision? What's your dream? Where do you see yourself? Where do you see yourself three, four, five, six years from now? What where where where do you want to be? What do you want to have contributed to society? What legacy are you wanting to leave? What do what is attached to your name? What do you want to be attached to your name? Oh my God, the name, the name, the name. It's so important to strive, not strive, but maintain a good name. All right. So having vision and having dreams and having goals means that you are living, you are breathing, you have purpose, you have passion, you have something to get up for. When the person gets to the point you don't even have a reason to get up one day, just face into the next day, it doesn't matter about what age you are. There are senior citizens that are so active, they can run a ring around some of us, right? They're active, they they are continuing to live and breathe and participate in life, and you know, they sign up for this and that. And then there's some of us that got strength of our arms and legs and our mental faculty. We got it, we got it all physically together, but we're not we're not dreamers, we're not visionary. Be a dreamer, be a visionary, be somebody that decides that you are going to leave a mark on the world, that you are going to make a difference. You are you we're gonna know that you live. Woo! That's good, right there. That's good. Make up your mind that we will know that you were here. You won't just have a marker at a grave. You will have marked yourself. You will have you will have left your your life uh as a mark. You you you you yourself, come on, you yourself will be a difference maker. It it will matter that you were in the earth. I I want it to matter that I lived. I I want I just always, ever since I was real young, I've just had a long and desire to make a difference in some small way. Sometimes, you know, when you talk about having a dream, my my dream is to bring as much hope in as many ways as I can to as many audiences as I can. That's why I continue to do this podcast. You know, the the people in different countries that I've never heard of, that listen to this podcast, say, I say thank you. The people that watch it on the YouTube say thank you. The shorts that are created, thank you. It's allowing me, come on, to really fulfill part of my dream. My dream literally is to pour hope and healing and inspiration into the earth in as many ways as I possibly can. My art dream is to literally have hope on the walls. I call it hope on canvas, having hope on the walls of hospitals and other places where hope is needed, around the world, around the world. I'm gonna keep speaking it until all my pieces are around the world. Why? Because I'm a dreamer, I have a motive. I want my life to matter. What do you want your life to matter? How do you want your life to matter? In what way do you see your life making a difference in somebody else's life? What gift? What great idea? What anointing? What grace do you have on your life that can impact the lives of others? All you have to do is move, all you have to do is go inward. All you have to do is pray. Say, God, show me what my gift is. Show me, put a dream in me. If you don't have a dream, ask God to give you a dream. I believe He would give you a dream if you dare to ask. Because it's good for the soul. It's something about when you are working on something. So I want to encourage you, start working on something. Don't care how small it is, start working on something. My first time starting a youth program was in 1989. I was working a dead-end job. I I truly did not like my job. I felt like I was going nowhere. Here I was at college with a college degree, college educated, and I'm I'm making almost minimum wage at a boring job. And I was just so dis I was just so discouraged because my life wasn't going the way I thought. But I always had a desire to impact the lives of young people. And I'm just so grateful that during the course of being in that dead-end job, I was moved, come on, moved to uh launch a youth program. And that youth program was called Young African-American Voices. My goodness, what an amazing opportunity that was to pour into the young people who were uh in the inner city. Uh, and those young people have grown up and they have children, they have children, children in the whole nine yards. And so often I will hear back, I hear something, uh, you know, some feedback uh from them and the impact that that program made. I I want you to know it's not difficult, nearly as hard as we make it out to do something, right? To just do something. You don't have to wait for permission, you don't have to wait for all your paperwork to come in, you don't have to wait for a lot of things. A lot of times we just delay our dreams, we just delay things, we just delay because we don't realize that we're wasting time really trying to get permission. Come on, when I started my youth program, it was a dream of mine to make a difference in the lives of young people, and I wanted to do something that it didn't require me having to wait for a grant. I funded it myself. I got a building at the Y, it was free. They allowed me to use the Y. I I had all the children from uh the uh South Memphis community to participate, and it was a rich program, and it made a difference. Like I said, you don't have to just wait on everything. Every condition is not going to be, you know, uh uh perfect for you. Most of the time, it's never gonna be perfect. Most of the time, it's never even the proper right time. It's just an unction. So I want to encourage you today in closing. If there's a dream in you, act on it. If there's something God's put in your heart that you can't shake, act on it. Act on it. Start that ministry, start that program, write that book, create, come on, something. Do that, do that that work, do that thing. Visit those seniors, create something, do something. There is something in you that's a real dream, that is real special, that you have an idea for. You feel you feel passionate about, but you've been afraid of. What you afraid of? What are you afraid of? What are you afraid of? Being turned down? Well, you already don't have it, so you can't go anybody up. Are you with me? Just dream, pursue, and pursue with all diligence. Be like that cheetah. Pursue. Focus, pursue, so that you can get your dream to come to pass. It starts with believing and it starts with acting. And if you do it, you can be like Nike. Nike said, just do it. God's word says, I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me. Remember the word. Remember the word, act on the word, and faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. And without faith, it's impossible to please God. One thing the Bible does say that we all need to remember faith without works is dead. In other words, do something. Do something. Watch that dream come to pass. Well, that is today's word here in episode number 161 in the hope zone with Dr. B. I've enjoyed having you today. I hope that you're inspired. If so, hey, share the podcast with somebody else. All right. All right, for more information on the works of Dr. B, go to my website at brendacaldwell.com. BrendaCaldwell.com. And you know this, in a world full of darkness, there's a stick there's still a reason to have hope. So what do I want you to do? Hold on to hope like it's a piece of rope. Until next time. I'm so glad you made it to the end of the podcast. If the hope zone is making a positive difference in your life, please subscribe to the show so you don't miss the next episode. Leave a review, and most of all, share it with your friends. And remember from your worst day to your best day, there's hope in every situation.
