1. SchoolChoice Round 2 Opens Tuesday, March 10

Round 2 of SchoolChoice opens Tuesday, March 10 at 10 a.m.! This window is for families who are new to DPS, missed Round 1 or changed their minds since Round 1 and would like to re-explore their options.

Unlike Round 1, Round 2 is first-come, first-serve within school admission priorities, so you are highly encouraged to apply early. If space is available, your student will be offered a seat; otherwise, they’ll be added to the waitlist.

  • If you’re already on a waitlist– there is No need to re-apply to the same school — you’re already in line!
  • If you’re applying for ECE-4, visit the SchoolChoice website for specific application instructions

2. Nominate a DPS Teacher for Colorado Teacher of the Year

 You can Nominate a teacher for the Colorado Teacher of the Year award.

The Colorado Teacher of the Year program celebrates an exceptionally dedicated, knowledgeable and skilled K-12 public school teacher who represents the best of the professional across our state. Anyone can nominate a teacher. Parents, students, colleagues, principals, family members. Teachers may even nominate themselves! When a teacher is nominated, they will be invited to apply to be the 2027 Colorado Teacher of the Year. Applications are due on March 20! Be sure to nominate your favorite teacher today!

3. Getting Ready for Earth Month

Earth Month is just around the corner and, with it, the opportunity for action. If your school is planning to host any events for Earth Day (April 22) or Earth Month (April), please let the Sustainability Team know –by completing the form.

4.District Accountability Committee (DAC) – Apply Now

DPS is accepting applications for the District Accountability Committee (DAC). Members will serve from August 2026 through June 2028.

The DAC advises the Board of Education on the district budget, improvement plans, charter school applications, family engagement and other key decisions. The DAC meets in person on the third Tuesday of each month (August–May) in the evening. Interpretation and childcare are provided. Parents, students, staff and community members are encouraged to apply. 

Applications close April 10, so be sure to  apply for the DAC now. For questions, email denverdac@gmail.com

5. Denver Passionate Schools: Meet Golden Helmet Winner Elian

Senior Elian is making the most of his time at Northfield High School. A standout in the classroom and on the field, Elian recently earned the 2025 Denver Post Golden Helmet Award, recognizing the most outstanding football player, student and citizen among Colorado seniors.

This fall, Elian will take the next step in his journey at the United States Air Force Academy, where he hopes to become a pilot or pursue a career in medicine.

His advice for younger students: follow your passions and stay fully committed to what you love.
