Welcome back to the Construction Veteran . I'm Scott Fren , and today we're going to talk about a skill that , for me personally , was pretty hard to adopt , that's delegation . Delegation is not a dirty word . In fact , it might be one of the most important cornerstones within the industry . It's about optimizing efficiency and empowering your team . So let's talk about four reasons why delegation is so important .

Number one optimizing work efficiency . Delegation allows tasks to be assigned to individuals with the right skills and expertise . This ensures each part of the project is performed by the most qualified team member . Inevitably , this optimizes the overall work efficiency . When you delegate based off of these tasks that you know someone's skilled for , not only do you get things done faster and more efficient , but you boost morale . You need to acknowledge and utilize your team's skills . Number two time management . Time management is critical in this industry . When you delegate your tasks as a leader , it allows you to focus on the big picture , or what some call the 30,000 foot view . When you focus on these high profile activities , it enhances the overall project timeline . Another thing delegation does is it prevents micromanaging . This allows your staff to allocate their time strategically . They can address critical issues and ensure the project stays on timeline .

I can personally say once I got over the hump of being able to delegate to people because I felt like I had to do everything because I had all the knowledge . It made my life ten times easier . It's very difficult when you step into a leadership role or you get promoted . Same thing in the service . You know how to do that job , but the best thing that you can do for people is not just do it for them , empower them and teach them how to do it . Yes , the buck might stop with you . However , you're just going to stress yourself out if you try to wrap your arms around the entire project . So delegation is not just about assigning tasks . Delegation is a strategic approach to enhance problem solving skills , time management , cohesiveness and everything we talked about . Inevitably , this creates a better industry for all of us .
