So"},{"startTime":205.05,"endTime":206.4,"body":"what did that look like for you?"},{"startTime":205.05,"endTime":206.4,"body":"Yeah, well,"},{"startTime":206.4,"endTime":209.73,"body":"it's I'm definitely not one of"},{"startTime":206.4,"endTime":209.73,"body":"those naturally born architects,"},{"startTime":209.73,"endTime":213.35999999999999,"body":"I guess it's a second career for"},{"startTime":209.73,"endTime":213.35999999999999,"body":"me. So I was out of college, I"},{"startTime":213.35999999999999,"endTime":215.7,"body":"was commissioned officer in the"},{"startTime":213.35999999999999,"endTime":215.7,"body":"Navy. So I did that for about"},{"startTime":215.7,"endTime":218.88,"body":"six and a half years active duty"},{"startTime":215.7,"endTime":218.88,"body":"Navy, I was on a couple ships, I"},{"startTime":218.88,"endTime":221.85,"body":"deployed a bunch of times, and"},{"startTime":218.88,"endTime":221.85,"body":"then I decided that wasn't the"},{"startTime":221.85,"endTime":223.82999999999998,"body":"career for me, you know, I"},{"startTime":221.85,"endTime":223.82999999999998,"body":"didn't wanna do that for my"},{"startTime":223.82999999999998,"endTime":227.22,"body":"life. And so I was looking at"},{"startTime":223.82999999999998,"endTime":227.22,"body":"what to do when I got out. And I"},{"startTime":227.22,"endTime":229.02,"body":"was originally think about"},{"startTime":227.22,"endTime":229.02,"body":"becoming a financial planner,"},{"startTime":229.02,"endTime":231.9,"body":"because I was invest. I was"},{"startTime":229.02,"endTime":231.9,"body":"interested in like, investing"},{"startTime":231.9,"endTime":234.18,"body":"and finances and that type of"},{"startTime":231.9,"endTime":234.18,"body":"thing, but seemed kind of"},{"startTime":234.18,"endTime":236.85,"body":"boring, you know, seemed fun for"},{"startTime":234.18,"endTime":236.85,"body":"me, but maybe not that I wanted"},{"startTime":236.85,"endTime":238.77,"body":"to help other people with. And"},{"startTime":236.85,"endTime":238.77,"body":"then I can remember how I"},{"startTime":238.77,"endTime":240.18,"body":"started thinking about"},{"startTime":238.77,"endTime":240.18,"body":"architecture, I was like, well,"},{"startTime":240.18,"endTime":242.28,"body":"that'd be pretty cool to learn"},{"startTime":240.18,"endTime":242.28,"body":"how to design houses. And that"},{"startTime":242.28,"endTime":246.0,"body":"was all I knew, I mean, had like"},{"startTime":242.28,"endTime":246.0,"body":"such a laypersons idea of what"},{"startTime":246.0,"endTime":248.25,"body":"architecture was, but I was"},{"startTime":246.0,"endTime":248.25,"body":"like, Yeah, I want to learn how"},{"startTime":248.25,"endTime":251.04,"body":"to design houses and build"},{"startTime":248.25,"endTime":251.04,"body":"houses and gets creative and"},{"startTime":251.04,"endTime":254.19,"body":"technical, that could be fun."},{"startTime":251.04,"endTime":254.19,"body":"And so at that point, I was"},{"startTime":254.22,"endTime":256.89,"body":"still active duty Navy, and I"},{"startTime":254.22,"endTime":256.89,"body":"started looking for programs."},{"startTime":256.89,"endTime":259.47,"body":"And I had, you know, I had a"},{"startTime":256.89,"endTime":259.47,"body":"sociology undergrad. So I was"},{"startTime":259.5,"endTime":261.96000000000004,"body":"unrelated, you know, a"},{"startTime":259.5,"endTime":261.96000000000004,"body":"bachelor's degree. So I was"},{"startTime":261.96000000000004,"endTime":265.5,"body":"looking for the three year mark"},{"startTime":261.96000000000004,"endTime":265.5,"body":"programs and need a portfolio"},{"startTime":265.5,"endTime":268.2,"body":"and I'd never taken art classes"},{"startTime":265.5,"endTime":268.2,"body":"or any of that stuff. So I like"},{"startTime":268.2,"endTime":272.76,"body":"real quickly started to study"},{"startTime":268.2,"endTime":272.76,"body":"for the GRE and started take"},{"startTime":272.76,"endTime":275.55,"body":"like sketching classes and"},{"startTime":272.76,"endTime":275.55,"body":"photography classes and painting"},{"startTime":275.55,"endTime":278.1,"body":"classes at a community college,"},{"startTime":275.55,"endTime":278.1,"body":"you know, on evenings and"},{"startTime":278.1,"endTime":281.16,"body":"weekends when I could try to put"},{"startTime":278.1,"endTime":281.16,"body":"together a portfolio and you"},{"startTime":281.16,"endTime":284.21999999999997,"body":"know, somehow got into"},{"startTime":281.16,"endTime":284.21999999999997,"body":"architecture school here in DC,"},{"startTime":284.25,"endTime":287.19,"body":"where I, where I'm from"},{"startTime":284.25,"endTime":287.19,"body":"originally. So Kyle, the Navy in"},{"startTime":287.21999999999997,"endTime":290.76,"body":"2010, went to grad school start"},{"startTime":287.21999999999997,"endTime":290.76,"body":"in 2010. And that was like a"},{"startTime":290.76,"endTime":292.62,"body":"three and a half year program."},{"startTime":290.76,"endTime":292.62,"body":"And now we're here."},{"startTime":293.099,"endTime":297.359,"body":"That's inspiring, because I feel"},{"startTime":293.099,"endTime":297.359,"body":"like it can be intimidating to"},{"startTime":297.359,"endTime":301.949,"body":"look at, okay, I have to go now"},{"startTime":297.359,"endTime":301.949,"body":"for three more years to school."},{"startTime":302.159,"endTime":306.659,"body":"And I have to submit a portfolio"},{"startTime":302.159,"endTime":306.659,"body":"without any you know, previous"},{"startTime":306.689,"endTime":309.599,"body":"skills and whatnot. And if you"},{"startTime":306.689,"endTime":309.599,"body":"don't mind me asking, Where were"},{"startTime":309.599,"endTime":312.359,"body":"you at? Like, did you have your"},{"startTime":309.599,"endTime":312.359,"body":"family at this time? How old"},{"startTime":312.359,"endTime":312.86899999999997,"body":"were you?"},{"startTime":312.9,"endTime":316.2,"body":"Let's see, I was dating my wife"},{"startTime":312.9,"endTime":316.2,"body":"already. We've been together for"},{"startTime":316.2,"endTime":319.32,"body":"about 11 months. Well, she was"},{"startTime":316.2,"endTime":319.32,"body":"my wife then. But you know, she"},{"startTime":319.32,"endTime":321.3,"body":"was my girlfriend then. And"},{"startTime":319.32,"endTime":321.3,"body":"we've been long distance for"},{"startTime":321.3,"endTime":326.82,"body":"about 11 months. I was 28 or 29."},{"startTime":321.3,"endTime":326.82,"body":"I guess. Like I said, I mean it"},{"startTime":326.82,"endTime":329.49,"body":"was a second career. So and When"},{"startTime":326.82,"endTime":329.49,"body":"I went to my Mr program at"},{"startTime":329.49,"endTime":331.71,"body":"Catholic University, which is"},{"startTime":329.49,"endTime":331.71,"body":"where I ended up going, a lot of"},{"startTime":331.71,"endTime":334.89,"body":"people in my class were older as"},{"startTime":331.71,"endTime":334.89,"body":"well. So I think it gave us a"},{"startTime":334.89,"endTime":337.71,"body":"little bit of it was maybe less"},{"startTime":334.89,"endTime":337.71,"body":"stressful in architecture,"},{"startTime":337.71,"endTime":340.56,"body":"school is still tough. But"},{"startTime":337.71,"endTime":340.56,"body":"coming out of the Navy, going to"},{"startTime":340.56,"endTime":342.96,"body":"art school, it's, you know, it's"},{"startTime":340.56,"endTime":342.96,"body":"a, it's a different stress, but"},{"startTime":342.96,"endTime":346.83,"body":"it's really not that bad. And so"},{"startTime":342.96,"endTime":346.83,"body":"a lot of my other classmates"},{"startTime":346.92,"endTime":350.01,"body":"that were there in my class,"},{"startTime":346.92,"endTime":350.01,"body":"were coming to this later in our"},{"startTime":350.01,"endTime":352.11,"body":"career. So I was with a lot of"},{"startTime":350.01,"endTime":352.11,"body":"people who were, you know,"},{"startTime":352.11,"endTime":354.71999999999997,"body":"somewhere, lawyers, somewhere"},{"startTime":352.11,"endTime":354.71999999999997,"body":"like real estate agents, there"},{"startTime":354.71999999999997,"endTime":357.48,"body":"was one guy was like a city"},{"startTime":354.71999999999997,"endTime":357.48,"body":"planner. So there was different"},{"startTime":357.48,"endTime":360.36,"body":"people in later stages of their"},{"startTime":357.48,"endTime":360.36,"body":"career. So in my cohort, we're"},{"startTime":360.36,"endTime":362.34,"body":"sort of all a little bit the"},{"startTime":360.36,"endTime":362.34,"body":"same, a little bit older."},{"startTime":362.4,"endTime":365.31,"body":"I think that's good for people"},{"startTime":362.4,"endTime":365.31,"body":"to hear, because I've had people"},{"startTime":365.31,"endTime":368.21999999999997,"body":"who are like, 20, to reach out"},{"startTime":365.31,"endTime":368.21999999999997,"body":"and be like, I don't know, it's"},{"startTime":368.21999999999997,"endTime":371.28,"body":"probably too late. But like, yeah,"},{"startTime":388.38,"endTime":390.12,"body":"you know, I did this for like, a"},{"startTime":390.12,"endTime":392.7,"body":"decade. Then I switched and I"},{"startTime":390.12,"endTime":392.7,"body":"did something else. And so you"},{"startTime":392.7,"endTime":395.61,"body":"can do I mean, I'm in my second"},{"startTime":392.7,"endTime":395.61,"body":"career, so I don't know, I don't"},{"startTime":395.61,"endTime":398.46,"body":"have another one planned after"},{"startTime":395.61,"endTime":398.46,"body":"this. But maybe, you know, you"},{"startTime":398.46,"endTime":399.81,"body":"never know what's gonna happen."},{"startTime":398.46,"endTime":399.81,"body":"Yeah."},{"startTime":400.46999999999997,"endTime":404.1,"body":"Where it's gonna take you. So I guess I have"},{"startTime":419.94,"endTime":423.45,"body":"to instill some creativity in"},{"startTime":423.45,"endTime":426.75,"body":"him. No, I mean, no, I don't"},{"startTime":423.45,"endTime":426.75,"body":"have any architect. Now. And I"},{"startTime":442.44,"endTime":445.8,"body":"at first, I would be embarrassed"},{"startTime":442.44,"endTime":445.8,"body":"about the fact that I didn't"},{"startTime":445.8,"endTime":448.74,"body":"really like Legos growing up,"},{"startTime":445.8,"endTime":448.74,"body":"you know, I'm like, I don't want"},{"startTime":448.74,"endTime":450.21,"body":"to tell anyone that because"},{"startTime":448.74,"endTime":450.21,"body":"they're gonna think I'm going to"},{"startTime":450.21,"endTime":453.9,"body":"be a bad architect. And same thing,"},{"startTime":453.93,"endTime":457.95,"body":"my daughter loves Legos. Now I'm"},{"startTime":457.95,"endTime":460.53,"body":"like, great, but I don't see her"},{"startTime":457.95,"endTime":460.53,"body":"as being an architect. So it's"},{"startTime":460.53,"endTime":463.44,"body":"just I feel like it's such a"},{"startTime":460.53,"endTime":463.44,"body":"thing that people connect, but"},{"startTime":463.44,"endTime":465.06,"body":"it's so doesn't really matter."},{"startTime":465.57,"endTime":468.0,"body":"Yeah. And you know, it may we'll"},{"startTime":465.57,"endTime":468.0,"body":"get into this a little bit. And so whatever"},{"startTime":483.75,"endTime":486.06,"body":"you're doing whatever you got"},{"startTime":483.75,"endTime":486.06,"body":"going on, it's it doesn't"},{"startTime":486.06,"endTime":488.67,"body":"matter.
