It would be so helpful for us to realize this again. We have this preconception that work is gloomy. I remember a billboard I used to pass on the way down to campus every day that showed a picture of a whiskey bottle lying on its side, and it said, “First the work, then the reward.”
That is a formula for frustration for your entire life. What Gandhi is teaching us here is the work itself is the reward, especially if you can carry it out in a detached spirit.
