I address this appeal to you and the hope that our movement may even lead you in the right direction and deflect you from the course, which is bound to end in your moral ruin and the reduction of human beings to robots.

I would imagine that Gandhi here is addressing himself to Western civilization via the English environment in which he found himself at that time. And I'm afraid that his grim prediction ultimately what led right into WWII and the aftermath. Again and again we see that he had these basic ways of looking at the world, which we ignore at our peril.
