Nonviolence Daily
Day 350
Every moment of our life should be filled with mental or physical activity but that activity should be sattvika, tending to truth.

There was a very useful scientific formula in ancient India that divided, well, just about everything into satva, rajas, and tamas. Tamas means inertia. Rajas means activity, but not necessarily well directed. And satva means balance or law. The image used in the Bhagavad Gita is a lamp burning in a windless place.
So, at every moment we can use this formula – I mean, we're not making ourselves unduly self-conscious. We can ask, is this the satvik way to proceed? If it is, we're doing the best we can.
