Nonviolence Daily
Nonviolence Daily is a thought-for-the-day from Gandhi with a short and inspiring commentary from Professor Michael Nagler from the Metta Center for Nonviolence.
Nonviolence Daily
Day 359
Fortunately for humanity, nonviolence pervades human life and is observed by men without special effort. If we had not born with one another, mankind would have been destroyed long ago. Ahimsa would thus appear to be the law of life, but we are thus far not entitled to any credit for observing it.

Really some important science here. Gandhi is saying that there is a universal principle operating in “nature.” And the role of a human being is to identify it and participate in it, not to just drift. If we drift, we get knocked about by that good force sometimes and its opposite other times.
So what we have to do is wake ourselves up, be aware that we're not inventing something brand new, but we're participating in nature and then with our conscious mind, deliberately participate in it. It's a wonderful model.
