A special Year 6 episode to commemorate ANZAC Day 2026.
Welcome to our special Year Six podcast. Today we are sharing a very important Australian Day of Remembrance, Anzac Day, which we commemorated last Saturday.
SPEAKER_02Anzac Day is held every year on the 25th of April. It is a day when Australians and New Zealanders remember the soldiers who served and died in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping missions.
SPEAKER_00The word Anzac stands for the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. It originally refers to the soldiers who landed at Gallipoli in Turkey in 1915 during World War I.
SPEAKER_02The landing at Gallipoli was very difficult. Many soldiers showed courage, teamwork and resilience in extremely tough conditions. We remember not just their bravery but also the cost of war.
SPEAKER_01On Anzac Day, many people attend dawn services. These services happen early in the morning, often before sunrise, to reflect the time the soldiers landed at Gallipoli.
SPEAKER_02At dawn services, people stand quietly, listen to the last post and reflect. It is a moment of silence and respect.
SPEAKER_00Another important part of Anzac Day is the Anzac Biscuit. These were originally made by families and sent to soldiers because they lasted a long time on the journey overseas.
SPEAKER_02Today, Anzac biscuits are still baked and shared as a way of remembering and connecting with that history.
SPEAKER_01Anzac Day is not just about the past, it is also about what values we can carry on into the future.
SPEAKER_02Values like courage, mateship, kindness, and respect.
SPEAKER_00We remember that many people have sacrificed so that others can live in peace today.
SPEAKER_02A famous phrase often used on Anzac Day is less we forget. It reminds us never to forget those who have served. Lest we forget.
SPEAKER_01Thank you for closing to our Anzac Day podcast.
SPEAKER_02We hope you took a moment this Anzac Day to reflect and remember. And to think about the importance of peace. From all of us in year six, lest we forget.
