Hello, my name is Tom and I'm about to talk to you about um about World Environment Day. What is World Environment Day? World Environment Day is the United Nations biggest global platform for environmental public outreach. Millions of people across more than 150 countries engage in activities, cleanups, and policy campaigns to raise awareness and drive urgent positive action to protect our planet. Now I'm going to talk to you about a subject called deforestation. Deforestation around every year around 15 billion trees are cut down each year to gain farmland, build structures and roads. Every single minute, an area of the forest about the size of 20 football fields, is chopped down around the world. Trees act like giant vacuums. They suck up a greenhouse gas called carbon dioxide and release fresh fresh oxygen. When forests are cut down or burned, all of that trapped carbon dioxide goes back into the atmosphere. How can we look after the environment? Ten things kid can kids can do to help the environment. 1. Bike or walk whenever possible. 2. Recycle. 3. Turn off lights when not in use. 4. Don't litter. 5. Take a shower instead of a bath to conserve water. 6. Plant a tree. 7. Create a wildlife habitat by building a birdhouse for your yard. 8. Turn off electronics when not in use. Nine. Turn off the water while you brush your teeth. ten. Ride the school bus to school. Thank you for listening to my podcast. Goodbye.
