Baylee

Hello, everyone. Welcome back to this week's episode of Mocktail Minutes. This is Bailey

Brianna

And this is Brianna

Baylee

This week I am drinking a Rest of Purpose collagen coffee. I'm doing the blueberry flavor. It's a little late, but not past the time to coffee, so it's gonna be okay. And I honestly, I will sleep just fine. I could probably drink a coffee at 5:00 in the afternoon and still go to sleep,

Brianna

That's how Victor is.

Baylee

do it because I know... Yeah.

Brianna

It just like does not-

Baylee

yeah, it doesn't do anything. But then if I were to... I used to drink Bang Energy drinks in college. Those are the only things that would give me a little fire under my rear, and so I would drink those and I would not sleep. But it would

Brianna

Oh yeah, I've got like a bazillion orders.

Baylee

Yeah

Brianna

Oh, those used to really help though. We were in col- we were, like, in college at the same time, so that, mm. I drank my fair share.

Baylee

drinks.

Brianna

What am I doing? Oh, I'm just doing the just, just ingredients, electrolytes. I'm finishing up my grape, which I think we were talking about this in Slack. I used to be very against it, and now I'm like, it's really grown on me

Baylee

It just, it takes you like a full bag to really start to like it. And then I'm like, "Okay, I think I would order it again." Because at first I was annoyed because that was the flavor Josh wanted, and I was like, "Ugh, I don't like grape-flavored things."

Brianna

Yeah.

Baylee

I think it's because it's not just like super artificial, like grape soda.

Brianna

Mm-hmm. It's good

Baylee

I'm like, "Okay, I do kinda like it.

Brianna

Yeah, I like it.

Baylee

refreshing." yeah. we're gonna, we're gonna do a better job at posting our drinks too. We had some requests for that. We're trying to keep our Instagram more active because what's challenging in the social media side of things as with our business, like we, we do content for nutrition coaching or for like marketing ourselves, and we're trying to do more social media for the podcast as well. So if you don't follow it, please do. It's Mocktail Minutes on Instagram. And we're trying to share more of what we're doing over there so that way we can reach more people, get more people connected to the podcast. 'Cause eventually we would like to make this almost like more part of our job. Right now it's... we have c- we have done a really... I even pride ourselves that we are consistently doing it, but like we-- not that we need to get paid to do things, it would be nice to be a monetized podcaster. So right now, we just do this because we enjoy it. We like to help everyone out. We like to answer questions, and it's a fun way that we can connect with each other some more and like we chat like an hour extra outside of this

Brianna

We did

Baylee

recording days. Yeah, today we did not have our hour-long chat beforehand because we're gonna give you a short and sweet episode. We are feeling chaotic. I feel like everyone, it's Tuesday afternoon. I was off work yesterday. Last week I had a half day Friday. Between last week and today, I feel like everyone's "Life is chaotic. I've not done anything to do my goals." And so we're gonna talk about what we are personally doing when we feel like life is chaotic or like how to get back on track. I like the idea of doing it like calming the chaos.

Brianna

Ooh, I like that

Baylee

reframe it like that, 'cause I think that's what personally you and I are focusing on. That's what we're gonna talk about today, like how we each are doing. We had no plans for this podcast episode, so we are winging it. Our things might be different. It doesn't mean either one of us is wrong. It's just different goals. We have different lives. We have different things going on. But I think it's gonna be helpful for you to see different perspectives or different things that we are doing based on what we're needing

Brianna

Yeah.

Baylee

the chaos.

Brianna

Yes, 'cause it's been crazy. And I know not everybody is, like, out of school, but it's like end of school year, Memorial Day, going into summer. It's, it's been chaotic. So, and this is something I'm always talking to my clients about, is like figuring out the couple things you can do that make you just feel really grounded. Like, okay, things are chaotic. What can I bring me back to center? For me maybe you can just go back and forth, but like my biggest one is I have to have some sort of movement or time for myself. So like it's walk. Like if that means I'm getting up and my first five minutes of my day is I go and I take a walk, I have to have some sort of walk, movement. Like it has to be... 'Cause I think I feel really

Baylee

movement

Brianna

like trapped down.

Baylee

Yeah, and you do-- you have more energy. You are more productive, I think, when you start movement first thing in the day. So I think that's a big one for me as well, is movement in the morning. And I did really prioritize, so I've been following... I've been using the Movement Club app. So I'm following a program within there. I got my workout in yesterday. Typically, I'd be like, it's a holiday. We're gonna go do things." I'll switch it for another day, but I want to keep my program going, and I am committed to doing workouts five days a week. Not all strength training, but five days a week. Monday through Friday is when I do a workout. I kept it going. I'm following my programming, and I think that's one thing that can be really helpful to commit, is to follow a specific program. Because when you're just doing random things it's not as mo- How do I say? It's not as... doesn't feel as imperative because it's "Oh I just do this. If I do

Brianna

It's just,

Baylee

If I

Brianna

yeah, like I will try to do it, yeah. Mm-hmm.

Baylee

But I know my programming is set for five days a week,

Brianna

Mm-hmm

Baylee

I know it's not gonna happen next weekend, so I'm not moving my days around, but I know exactly what I was gonna do. So yesterday, I knew I needed twenty-four minutes to get my workout in. So I got up earlier. Josh and Deanna were still sleeping. I got it done. Josh was like, "What'd you do this morning?" I was like, "I already worked out and went on a walk." And he was like,

Brianna

So productive. Yes.

Baylee

like, "Cool.

Brianna

Yeah, but just something small. And I think like people don't, like, they feel like this is a problem of feeling like it needs to be perfect. Like, no, like what is making you feel grounded? And for those of you that don't follow a program, even if something is like, I'm scheduling out my week, I want X amount of this, I want X amount of that, and you physically schedule it ahead of time and you follow it.

Baylee

The other thing that I'm doing is because of like the season of life I am, the different things we're doing just to support my body better, reduce my nervous system stress, just overall support, better energy, and I want to work on muscle building and fat loss right now. So with that being said, I am tracking my food I was recognizing I was really low on my carbs. My carbs were just not doing great, and I know that's something I really need to be prioritizing right now. So I am tracking my food, which is for my people who are tracking, they're like, "I didn't track 'cause it was off," and "I'm just having a hard time getting back in." If you're feeling off, I do think it can be helpful to just track, in with yourself, to feel a little bit more confident about your choices, just to see where you're at. Even if you're j- not tracking every day, like just doing it for this week, like where are we? I think that can be helpful. So was telling my aunt yesterday was just my measuring cup hack. Just to see what are we even getting. So literally just like having a half a cup or a cup measuring cup that you use all throughout the day. When you go to get vegetables out, fill that up twice. When you go to get fruit out, fill that up once. When you get your starchy carb, fill it up once or half of that. Kinda just depends on your needs, but that is a very simple way just to see what you're getting. So that can be helpful as well. So I am tracking today to gauge what I'm doing and to help me plan out the rest of my week

Brianna

Yeah, I like that. And it really doesn't need to be this, like, perfect thing. Like you said, my measuring cup, is it perfectly spot on? No, but it works great. One thing that I have people do, and I, I fall back on this so often, is I have some just, like, go-to things that I've already tracked. I know they hit the protein. I know they're high in fiber. Like, my go-to no fails, sometimes they're boring, but I just pull back, like, when I'm super chaotic, and I just go back to the basics, boring nutrition, something that I know is like, this is gonna hit my protein, this is gonna hit my fiber. This is what I'm doing. Mm-hmm.

Baylee

Yes.

Brianna

will spend a ridiculous amount of money on Instacart for those things to be delivered if I don't have them,

Baylee

is

Brianna

because, you know,

Baylee

to get like

Brianna

I'm not going to the store today.

Baylee

Yeah. Or like I have the Target membership, and so they do free deliveries. And so sometimes I will order my groceries from Target, and then they deliver for free. Or even just doing like a store pickup where it's like, what do I need to get me through those next 24 hours? You don't have to necessarily have the whole week planned out, but it's okay what can I do to get me through this next time period? And then we'll evaluate later. But sometimes we just get so stuck with, oh, I don't have time. I don't have an hour to go to the grocery store. It does not take you an hour just to get stuff for lunch, breakfast, dinner tomorrow. Make it a quick and easy trip. I think that can be really helpful. the other thing I would say too, just Do-- don't feel like you have to do this cleanse or this big thing in order to recover from your weekend, or you have to wait till next week. 'Cause as I'm recording, it's Tuesday after Memorial Day weekend. We-- I had a three-and-a-half-day weekend, so I could easily be like, "Ugh, we started off to a rough start, but we'll try again next week." Nope, just start today. And it reflects okay, what things happened that I didn't love, that I didn't feel so great, just is making me feel chaotic?

Brianna

Mm-hmm.

Baylee

food is usually a pretty easy thing for me 'cause, this is my job, and so I have a good idea of what I need to eat without tracking. But I am aware my fiber was lower and my water was actually lower, I did not do a fantastic job with that. So those are forefront of my brain. The other thing is my movement was really good. Honestly, more of what I'm focused on when I feel this chaos, I'm like, "Where is this chaos coming from?" know my house is just a tornado right now. And this is something we don't think about when it comes to our health. Especially like in the weight loss world, like we don't think about our chaotic kitchen being a problem. But if you have dishes all in the sink, there's-- of course, you're gonna be resistant to making dinner because you don't wanna add to the dishes. So how I'm gonna calm that chaos. I know laundry needs to get done, kitchen needs to be cleaned. We have dishes all in the sink. Counters need to be wiped down. We gotta unpack the pool bag from last night. I gotta clean up Dan's room. Gotta switch out his sheets. We got bathrooms that need to be cleaned 'cause they didn't get cleaned yesterday when I usually do it on a Monday. And so it's all these little things that just pile up, and it can lead to some chaos. Having a game plan, okay, how are we gonna calm that? So tonight we're using paper plates. I'm not adding to the dishes. honestly, I might DoorDash, but I'm gonna DoorDash like some Chipotle or McAlister's. And so that's where we like... Is it the best meal in the world? No, but it's not like we're going to McDonald's or anything, so I'm making the best decision to help calm that side of things. then knowing kitchen, house upstairs causing a lot of chaos, so we're gonna try and take care of that. So it's almost like stopping the bleed where it's at.

Brianna

Yeah.

Baylee

Instead of just being stuck in chaos, it's okay, chaos is coming from here. Let's take care of it.

Brianna

Oh yeah, because it'll just keep perpetuating. Side note, life hack, the new family ordering at Chipotle is actually very good bang for your buck. It's like

Baylee

it's all

Brianna

$50 depending on the protein you get, but you can get like six to eight meals out of it. And they, it's like ala carte. Like, you pick all the different stuff that you want, and so you can like make

Baylee

That's a good idea

Brianna

I was literally was like, "Maybe I will do that for meal prep this week." I'm not even joking. Maybe I'll do it, like some beans and rice and chicken. Not perfect, but it makes it easier. I would say that's my last one too, is kind of like doing like a brain dump. And I try to do it outside, because for me, I feel way less chaotic outside. But I'll just get like paper, a pen, and I'm gonna brain dump everything in my head, like what my schedule d- is this week. What do I need to move around? What are the kids doing? What do I need to clean? What's like, when I walk into a room, I'm about to lose my mind. Like, write it down, and then circle like three or four that's like, I can tackle these today. I'm gonna get it done. Just to like lower it. And then even if you don't tackle everything on your list, it's like out of your head. Like, it's out of your head. It's on paper. You know, like, okay, I'm gonna get to this. And then delegating it out if you can. If you guys, you know, the people listening don't have a partner that will kind of help do things, I apologize. But for the most part, I think we just don't ask. Like with We just like don't ask. But be like, "Hey man, I'm gonna need you to go clean the bathroom. If you can do that today, that would be so cool." Or if like, "If you could just start this little laundry," or, "You could go pick up this grocery order." Because it's so chaotic, and it feels like, oh gosh, I'm trying to fix this chaos while going with it, you know? Yeah

Baylee

I think just taking-- also just taking the time to just do the things instead of them up in general can help. Especially 'cause it's what we call the May summer. Everything's happening, and it's just getting started. And so the more you can prepare yourself for the rest of the summer especially this is like a preview to summer. And it's okay, just do these little things all throughout the week, so that way you don't feel like you're just constantly having to catch up. I was texting Rihanna, I was like, "I need a day off work after my four days off of work to catch up on life."

Brianna

I'll hang on a sec

Baylee

So that's something I'm really working on is just doing things and getting them done. like Okay, let's take bananas for example. I buy bananas, but then I peel them and I freeze them for smoothies.

Brianna

Mm-hmm.

Baylee

I will have that on my list, and I'll be like, "I need to do this, I need to do this, I need to do this." And then I like go back 'cause I forget to do it.

Brianna

Yeah

Baylee

do it, and it takes me like three minutes. So the more you can just do things, get it done, take it off your list, because then that list becomes less overwhelming. You're taking some of that pressure off. You're actually getting things done.

Brianna

Yeah

Baylee

the-- find these little bouts of time to get your tasks done.

Brianna

Wow

Baylee

it's "Oh, I just don't have time." Sometimes it's like we grab our phone and we're on Facebook, and it's "Oh, I actually could have picked up these clothes and put them in the dirty clothes in 30 seconds." So utilizing your time and the chaos. I think overall we're just, we're calming the chaos by deciding what is being chaotic and game planning for it differently.

Brianna

And not avoiding it. So I, I will, like when I'm stressed out, I'm like, "I'm just gonna do this first and then I'll go do that," but then you don't. To be honest with yourself, are you making your chaos worse?

Baylee

Yeah, just do it. Find places for things and don't just like... Sometimes it's almost this is a weird thing like a validation, be like, "Look at all this things I have to do on my list. I'm so busy. I'm..." I don't know. It's like a weird thing I do, I- it's list is longer, I'm like, I don't know, not better, but it's if my list is longer, it's great. I have things I need to do. I'm a busy person, blah, blah, blah. But it's like just adding things to my list. I'm like, you know what? Just do the things on the list.

Brianna

Yeah, exactly.

Baylee

and then it doesn't pile up. But then if you're like me and you like the list of long things of "Here's what I accomplished today," put it on your list and then just actually do it. Stop putting it off because you feel like it's gonna take longer. Do the things. saw a quote that's "If it's gonna take less than 30 seconds to do, just do it now. Do it now." And I've really started to do that like mail, for example. It's like you put it in the pile, and then it dies in the pile. I'm like, "Just put it. If it needs to be filed away, file it away. If it needs to be paid, just pay it right now." If it... Like, all these things take less than 30 seconds. Just do it, and then you don't have this pile of mail that staring at you in the face all the time

Brianna

Yeah. 'Cause it's that mental load of being like, "Oh, I gotta do this." Like, sometimes I'll do that with work. Like, "I gotta respond to that email." It's like I'm literally dwelling on a stupid email that I could have just responded to and that could've been off of my brain. But yeah, but we do that, and then it's like, oh, but then I also wanted to work out, and I wanted to meal prep, and I wanted to eat healthy, and now I can't do any of it. So it's like, just do the little stuff so that you actually have capacity because life is just chaotic. And I feel like we're going into a really chaotic season

Baylee

Yes. I think sometimes just to do the little stuff first so that you can work off like multiple things off your list because yeah, like something like an email, that's what I've been working on. Like when I have little bouts of time between the day, I work to check emails because I can get through at least five or respond to one and take that off my radar.

Brianna

Mm-hmm.

Baylee

but yeah, reducing that mental load when it comes to food, deciding what do I need right now? For me, I'm tracking and I'm paying attention to fiber. I'm having ready to go produce. and then hydration, that was lacking, so I'm focusing on hydration. Movement has been a lot easier for me lately just 'cause I'm in the habit of getting up every day and moving, and so that one doesn't have to be as forefront of my brain, but it was a decision to wake up early on a day off work to go do it. But those are the main things I'd say I'm doing right now

Brianna

Mm-hmm. Yeah. I would say movement, staples of food that I don't have to think about. They're already done. I know they hit it. Brain dumping and figuring out how do I take... How, what do I need to get done to take more off my plate? I know that sounds weird, but yeah. And then I think we can both agree, sleep. I'm just like, when in doubt, sleep. Like, make sure you're getting sleep, 'cause if you are feeling chaotic and you try to go off of five hours of sleep, you're not gonna wanna do anything.

Baylee

And that can be hard too because especially when you feel like you have all these things you need to get done, we tend to lack on sleep. So that's something that I do have to pay attention to as well, is just staying up till midnight tonight and then waking up at 5:00 tomorrow is not going to be as helpful as I think it would be. not gonna be as productive tomorrow. My brain's not gonna function super well. My cravings are gonna be weird. So just plan out your week. Get an idea of what your week's doing. Decide what events you can attend, what you can't, and it's okay to say no to things and adjust your week

Brianna

Yeah. What do you want to do? What do you not wanna do? Take it off. Yeah, but hopefully that's helpful. I feel better. We'll see how I feel when I get off of here and I go to my house, 'cause right now I'm in my very clean office

Baylee

Yes. That's a hard part about working from home is that y- your mess that you need to get done is just surrounding you, but like you have to work. You have things for work you need to get done. It's work time, it's not home time. It's just something you have to work on as a work from home person

Brianna

Which is hard. So that'll be my goal today is like do what I gotta do, and then whatever's going on out there.

Baylee

actually really bad for our brain to switch tasks all the time. So that also helps, if you also work from home, always tell people like, m- make your work hours. Work during your work hours, you do home during your home hours. And sometimes I know like work from home when it first started, like people are doing laundry during their lunch break or things like that. There's sometimes I will start it, but I'm not folding laundry during a workday. Maybe as I took like a lunch break, but things like that I don't try and do between work. is work, and I do little work tasks during the work time

Brianna

exactly. Delegate your time. We could do a whole episode on that

Baylee

So yeah. But yes, we hope this is helpful just to I know this is gonna be live on Thursday, but I hope even Thursday, as you're listening to this or whatever day you're listening to it, decide what do I need to do to calm the chaos in my life to focus on my health? start doing it at the end of this episode. You can always drink more water. You can always move no matter what time of day it is. You can always plan for the next day. Make these things happen and stop waiting for the perfect time

Brianna

So anyway

Baylee

All right, everyone. Have a great rest of your week, and we will be back next week with a brand-new episode. Bye
