A year ago, I decided to begin a podcast around the focus of my book Creating Belonging. I wasn't sure to expect and I only committed myself to 10 episodes. What surprised me is that producing the podcast was one of the best things that I did last year. It was great to engage with others, share their stories and learn more from them Through their stories. It actually helped me deepen my understanding of the work, and it's an interesting thing to develop a model. One would assume that if it's your creation, it should all make sense, or that you would thought through everything, but that's just not true. It was through my conversations with others, hearing their experiences and contextualizing them into the Creating Belonging model that I gained a deeper understanding of some of the pockets and corners around it. I hope the stories helped you as well and I can't thank my first season guests enough for their participation in the podcast. This past fall, I made a decision to begin working on the second edition of my book, creating Belonging. When I published it in May of 2022, I knew it wasn't finished. I knew I wanted to explore more corners of the research and I also acknowledged that the stories in the book are all told entirely through my lens. I knew I wanted to get others' stories a part of the book, so enter in the beauty of the podcast. Some of the stories my guests so graciously shared will be appearing in the second edition of the book, with their permission, of course. And if you would be interested in sharing a story of your experience, please reach out. I'd love to include it. So, beyond the lookout for the second edition of Creating Belonging a practical guide to accelerate belonging in organizations and communities I don't have an official anticipated publish date, but you will see it before the end of 2024. And if you want to get your hands on the first edition copy, it is still available on Amazon. So on to this next season of the podcast.
Speaker 1:In the first season, and really the first year of my work of creating Belonging, I wanted to make sure that it was something for all audiences. I worked to ensure a diverse set of perspectives from our guests, but it started to feel like I was reaching too wide, maybe diluting the message a bit, and so, while I still want the work and my guests to be from all backgrounds, I've decided to pivot slightly. This year. I found that it was easier for me to connect with others from within the LGBTQ plus umbrella, and so, as such, you might start to see the work take a bit of a slant in that direction, but by no means is it only for queer identifying folks.
Speaker 1:I have a fun slate of guests on deck not all queer identifying and we explore a lot of different types of experiences. We'll talk deeper about religion, family dynamics, non-traditional relationships, and then, of course, we'll talk about some good and bad bosses. Another fun dynamic is that the first season was primarily folks in my immediate network, and so this season I've reached out and we'll have some folks that I'm familiar with, but we have a lot of brand new folks that are joining on the podcast and some really great conversations that I've had. Some of them were talking for the first time, and what's also been great is we've already started building those relationships further. So I'm excited for you to explore the second season of the podcast with me. While at this point, I've recorded several of the episodes, I haven't put a cap or a commitment on how long the season is going to be, so follow along and let's see how the journey flows.
