Exodus Chapter 7: Plague 1 - The Plague of Blood (Part 2)

The plagues of Egypt are often reduced to children's stories or dismissed as natural disasters, but Exodus presents something far greater. The first plague marks the opening battle between the God of Israel and the powers Egypt believed governed creation itself. Before a single firstborn dies, before darkness covers the land, and before Pharaoh's kingdom begins to crumble, God starts with the very source of Egypt's life—the Nile.
In this episode, we explore why the Nile was the first target, what it represented within the Egyptian worldview, and why turning its waters to blood was far more than a display of power. We examine the supernatural backdrop of the Exodus, the role of Pharaoh's magicians, and why Scripture presents this confrontation as a genuine contest between the Lord and the spiritual powers that stood behind Egypt's gods. Along the way, we discuss ancient Egyptian theology, the symbolism of serpents, the concept of Ma'at, and why many modern attempts to explain the plagues as merely natural events ultimately fail to do justice to the biblical text.
We also follow the biblical thread that stretches from Genesis through Exodus and into Revelation, asking why God begins His judgments with water, how the first plague echoes creation itself, and why the same imagery returns in the final judgments of Scripture. It is the opening declaration that every earthly kingdom, every false god, and every source of misplaced trust ultimately stands beneath the authority of the One who alone rules over creation.
