WEBVTT 00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:08.000 In 1994, Steve Jobs was the CEO of Pixar. 00:00:08.000 --> 00:00:11.000 And he made this statement. 00:00:11.000 --> 00:00:19.000 The most powerful person in the world is the storyteller. 00:00:19.000 --> 00:00:36.280 The Storyteller sets the vision, values and agenda of an entire generation that is to come. 00:00:36.280 --> 00:00:57.479 When you think of that, you think about Hollywood, you think of even media outlets today, that With the telling of the story, the telling of the narrative, there is great power. 00:00:57.479 --> 00:01:30.239 One of the most known movie franchises is that of readers of the lost art and those type movies which they had one come out this weekend that did not do as well as another movie that came out this past week. 00:01:30.239 --> 00:01:42.939 The Sound of Freedom I will ask you to do your research on that movie and encourage you to see it if you are so led to see that movie. 00:01:42.939 --> 00:02:02.260 But as we think about the story telling, being the most powerful person, I would say that the greatest story ever told is the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. 00:02:02.260 --> 00:02:11.819 And it is God Himself who has told this story and played out this story in history. 00:02:11.819 --> 00:02:17.900 Because He is the most powerful being there is. 00:02:17.900 --> 00:02:20.599 Amen. 00:02:20.599 --> 00:02:25.780 Have I got a story for you? 00:02:25.780 --> 00:02:53.300 Pastor Jeff has been teaching on the covenants, the covenants that God has made with man, and how these covenants set forth for us the entirety of the Bible, the story and the theme of the Bible, they display the overarching meta-narrative of the Bible and God's redemptive plan. 00:02:53.300 --> 00:03:15.039 But there is a covenant that in a point illustrates The Eternal Covenant illustrates the New Covenant and it is this illustration and this story that I wish to share with you this morning. 00:03:15.039 --> 00:03:19.639 The Covenant of which I speak is between two men. 00:03:19.639 --> 00:03:31.599 One of them was Jonathan, the son of Saul and the other David, the son of Jesse. 00:03:31.599 --> 00:03:40.439 In our text that we are going to read, it is the last meeting of these two men. 00:03:40.439 --> 00:03:45.439 From this point on, they will not see one another again. 00:03:45.439 --> 00:03:59.719 It is in this meeting, it is kind of in the middle of the narrative, it is in the middle of the story, but I am going to start in the middle and go back and bring it forward and then take it to the conclusion. 00:03:59.719 --> 00:04:06.360 It is set in the middle and as these dearest friends come together they part. 00:04:06.360 --> 00:04:16.079 And here is what we read in 1 Samuel 20 verses 41 and verse 42. 00:04:16.079 --> 00:04:20.680 I am reading from the King James. 00:04:20.680 --> 00:04:44.519 And as soon as the lad was gone, David arose out of a place toward the south and fell on his face to the ground and bowed himself three times, and they kissed one another, and wept one with another until David exceeded. 00:04:44.519 --> 00:05:10.379 David continued to cry more and more, and Jonathan said to David, Go in peace, for as As much as we have sworn both of us in the name of the Lord say it, The Lord be between me and thee, and between my seed and thy seed forever. 00:05:10.379 --> 00:05:15.920 And he arose and departed, and Jonathan went into the city. 00:05:15.920 --> 00:05:21.079 Let us pray. 00:05:21.079 --> 00:06:03.079 as we approach your word, we ask that you give us mighty help from above. May it change us, may it cause us to glory in You, to glory in Your Son and what He has done for us. 00:06:03.079 --> 00:06:09.680 And he said, It is Fin. 00:06:09.680 --> 00:06:13.439 Bless this time in Christ's name. 00:06:13.439 --> 00:06:15.560 Amen. 00:06:15.560 --> 00:06:23.240 Now at this point, David had already been anointed King of Israel. 00:06:23.240 --> 00:06:39.040 although he had not yet become king because Saul was still king on the throne. 00:06:39.040 --> 00:06:59.860 In this story, David is awaiting word from Jonathan to see if Saul the king is in his favor or if David is in the disfavor of King Saul. 00:06:59.860 --> 00:07:19.959 What happens here is David was to be there at the new moon, he was to be there and to sit at the table and he was not going to show up because he was not sure what would happen to him if he did because Saul had already made several attempts on his life. 00:07:19.959 --> 00:07:50.860 This was the deal, they said, Jonathan said when I find out what my father's state is, whether it is well with you or not, I will go out and I will shoot an arrow into the field, and then I will have a young boy go out to get the arrow, and if you are to flee, if you are to leave, I will tell the young lad to go further, and if I say go further, That is your cue that you must leave. 00:07:50.860 --> 00:07:53.459 So that is what happened. 00:07:53.459 --> 00:07:56.639 David does not have favor with the king. 00:07:56.639 --> 00:08:01.100 Jonathan shoots the arrow, tells the young lad to go further. 00:08:01.100 --> 00:08:03.920 David knows he has to leave. 00:08:03.920 --> 00:08:11.319 So Jonathan makes his way and they meet together and this is the last meeting. 00:08:11.319 --> 00:08:13.279 My father is not pleased with you. 00:08:13.279 --> 00:08:16.040 He seeks to execute you. 00:08:16.040 --> 00:08:30.560 They embrace, they bow before one another, and Jonathan reaffirms, restates a covenant that they had made years earlier than I want to get to. 00:08:30.560 --> 00:08:50.940 And he says, "They swore both of us in the name of the Lord, saying, 'The Lord be between me and thee, and between my seed and thy seed forever." And he arose and departed, and Jonathan went into the city. 00:08:50.940 --> 00:09:03.779 Now why is it that King Saul is so set on destroying David? 00:09:03.779 --> 00:09:12.720 Saul is enraged, enraged with hatred that David is going to take the throne. 00:09:12.720 --> 00:09:20.039 Because Saul has killed his thousands but David is ten thousand. 00:09:20.039 --> 00:09:30.759 And so this jealousy and this rage is getting the best of Saul. 00:09:30.759 --> 00:09:40.039 The story begins when David slew Goliath. 00:09:40.039 --> 00:09:58.259 You all know the story there well and it was toward the end or at the end of David killing Saul and taking care of the Philistine army that Jonathan and David meet for the first time. 00:09:58.259 --> 00:10:07.279 And so when David had done the act of killing Goliath, Saul says, "Who is this young man? 00:10:07.279 --> 00:10:18.860 And who is his father?" And the servant said, "I will inquire to find out and bring you word." So the servant goes out and he brings David back. 00:10:18.860 --> 00:10:37.419 If you look over a couple of chapters to chapter 17, verse 17, verse 55, we find where the story begins, where the narrative begins. 00:10:37.419 --> 00:10:50.279 Verse 1755, When Saul saw David go forth against the Philistine, He said unto Abner, the captain of the host, Abner, whose son is this you? 00:10:50.279 --> 00:10:55.279 And Abner said, as thy soul liveth, O king, I cannot tell. 00:10:55.279 --> 00:11:00.539 And the king said, inquire, thou whose son is this stripling? 00:11:00.539 --> 00:11:11.320 And as King David returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, Abner took him and brought him before Saul with the head of the Philistine in his hand. 00:11:11.320 --> 00:11:17.559 And Saul said unto him, Whose son are you, young man? 00:11:17.559 --> 00:11:25.279 And David answered, I am the son of thy servant Jesse, the Bethlehemite. 00:11:25.279 --> 00:11:38.740 And he came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David. 00:11:38.740 --> 00:11:51.700 And Jonathan loved him as his own soul, And Saul took him that day, And would not let him go home anymore to his father's house. 00:11:51.700 --> 00:12:04.559 Verse 3, chapter 18, And Jonathan and David made a covenant, Because he loved him as his own soul. 00:12:04.559 --> 00:12:10.620 And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was upon him. 00:12:10.620 --> 00:12:22.279 He gave it to David and his garments, even to his sword and to his bow and to his bell. 00:12:22.279 --> 00:12:29.200 So our text that we begin with is the parting of David and Jonathan. 00:12:29.200 --> 00:12:42.840 In this story we see the beginning of the story when they came together and it was God who did a work in the hearts of them both to bring them together as fast friends. 00:12:42.840 --> 00:12:44.879 He knit their souls together. 00:12:44.879 --> 00:12:48.200 They were bound to and they made this covenant. 00:12:48.200 --> 00:12:51.559 They made a covenant together. 00:12:51.559 --> 00:12:55.179 That's the theme that we've been listening to about a covenant. 00:12:55.179 --> 00:13:13.820 So they made a covenant and it is understood that in these days that there might be a cutting of the flesh and a mingling of the blood, so that the blood of the two would be one, and therefore they would be bound in covenant for life. 00:13:13.820 --> 00:13:24.620 And so we see that here as this unfolds something else happened. 00:13:24.620 --> 00:13:32.139 and has watched the battle, he is seeing David defeat this enemy that was against them and against their God. 00:13:32.139 --> 00:13:48.200 And Jonathan takes off his robe, takes off his garment, takes off his armor, gives David his sword, his bow, and his belt. 00:13:48.200 --> 00:14:02.159 Now it is Jonathan who is Prince It is Jonathan who is in line to be the next king. 00:14:02.159 --> 00:14:06.320 But in this act he is indicating something else. 00:14:06.320 --> 00:14:19.279 That it is not he that is going to be king but it is David who is going to be king and thus it was David who would become king. 00:14:19.279 --> 00:14:34.960 It was not because there was anything in him, but because that everything that was in his God that he was the warrior who had slain the enemy of Israel in Goliath and the Philistine. 00:14:34.960 --> 00:14:45.720 Now it was not long as we see this envy and this jealousy and this rage is rising up in Saul and he begins to make attempts to eliminate David. 00:14:45.720 --> 00:15:16.220 Now before the scene in our text takes place toward the beginning of it, in 1 Samuel 20, Jonathan at the beginning of that conversation and how they were going to relay the message whether David needed to flee or not, Jonathan makes the statement of the covenant again in 1st Samuel 20 verses 17 or verse sorry verse 14. 00:15:16.220 --> 00:15:32.740 And thou shalt not only while yet I live show me the kindness of the Lord that I die not, but also thou shalt not cut off thy kindness from my house forever. 00:15:32.740 --> 00:16:02.340 that listen to that again this is Jonathan speaking to David reminding them of the covenant that they had made and thou shalt not only while yet I live show me the kindness of the Lord that I die not but also thou shalt not cut off thy kindness from my house forever no not when the Lord hath cut off the enemies of David everyone from the face of the earth. 00:16:02.340 --> 00:16:13.779 So Jonathan made a covenant with the house of David saying, Let the Lord even require it at the hand of David's enemies. 00:16:13.779 --> 00:16:26.200 And Jonathan calls David to swear again, because he loved him, for he loved him as his own soul. 00:16:26.200 --> 00:16:34.799 So now we come to our text where David is to flee. 00:16:34.799 --> 00:16:50.580 So David flees and he is on the run and Saul is seeking his life, seeking to bring an end to him more and more and more. 00:16:50.580 --> 00:17:09.299 Till one day as Saul is pursuing David, David is hiding in a cave and the king comes in the cave to relieve himself and you know the story. 00:17:09.299 --> 00:17:14.299 David cuts his coat, cuts his shirt tail off we'll say. 00:17:14.299 --> 00:17:39.180 will say. The king goes out, David comes out, says, "The Lord delivered you into my hands this day, but I did not take your life. I will not touch the Lord's anointed." And it is at that point that Saul realizes he had the opportunity to kill me, but he did not. 00:17:40.700 --> 00:17:44.140 "Truly, David, you have shown me kindness. 00:17:44.140 --> 00:17:47.200 You are to be the next king. 00:17:47.200 --> 00:17:49.039 I'm not going to pursue you anymore. 00:17:49.039 --> 00:17:56.619 But remember my family." Well, that didn't last long. 00:17:56.619 --> 00:18:04.819 You think maybe King Saul was bipolar or he had some kind of something or other, didn't he? 00:18:04.819 --> 00:18:05.660 - Man. 00:18:05.660 --> 00:18:09.980 - The Lord had departed from him is what was wrong with him. 00:18:09.980 --> 00:18:13.299 And so David has another occasion. 00:18:13.299 --> 00:18:16.819 They're asleep, you know, and David comes up on them while they're sleeping. 00:18:16.819 --> 00:18:26.960 The Lord has caused a fast sleep and he takes the staff, he takes the stuff, he recedes again and Saul wakes up and David's like, here it is again, you know, the Lord delivered you. 00:18:26.960 --> 00:18:39.859 And so the story goes on and David or Saul, Jonathan, and other of the sons of Saul are killed in a battle. 00:18:39.859 --> 00:18:54.220 And the word comes to David that Saul has been slain, that Jonathan has been slain, and he weeps and he mourns. 00:18:54.220 --> 00:18:57.420 He inquires of the Lord what he should do. 00:18:57.420 --> 00:19:00.420 The Lord says go to Judah. 00:19:00.420 --> 00:19:04.740 And so David goes to Judah, they make him king of Judah. 00:19:04.740 --> 00:19:07.859 He inquires of the Lord again. 00:19:07.859 --> 00:19:19.059 The Lord says go to Israel go to Jerusalem and thus David is made king over all of Israel the combined kingdom. 00:19:19.059 --> 00:19:26.740 David battles and fights the enemies he brings back the art. 00:19:26.740 --> 00:19:33.859 And then it seems as if there is a somewhat of a time of P. 00:19:33.859 --> 00:19:38.059 all is dead, Jonathan is dead. 00:19:38.059 --> 00:19:58.500 We are not really given the circumstances of how David was thinking and what had happened, but David began to think upon the covenant, the relationship, the friendship that he had with Jonathan. 00:19:58.500 --> 00:20:11.099 So let's go toward the end of the story in 2 Samuel chapter 9. 00:20:11.099 --> 00:20:13.099 I'm going somewhere by the way. 00:20:13.099 --> 00:20:24.099 Just hang with me. 00:20:24.099 --> 00:20:28.500 David has a desire to keep his word and to keep his promise. 00:20:28.500 --> 00:20:36.180 And we see here the covenant fulfilled the covenant that David had made with Jonathan, that they had made together. 00:20:36.180 --> 00:20:40.339 David now has opportunity to fulfill that covenant. 00:20:40.339 --> 00:20:47.019 Second Samuel chapter nine. 00:20:47.019 --> 00:21:02.480 And David said, Is there yet any that is left of the house of Saul, that I may show him kindness, for Jonathan's sake? 00:21:02.480 --> 00:21:09.539 You remember when Jonathan was restating the covenant to David before. 00:21:09.539 --> 00:21:15.019 He said show me kindness, show my family kindness. 00:21:15.019 --> 00:21:23.059 And so David remembers that and he says, is there any of the house of Saul that I may may show him kindness for Jonathan's sake. 00:21:23.059 --> 00:21:27.740 And there was of the house of Saul a servant whose name was Zayba. 00:21:27.740 --> 00:21:36.140 And when they had called him unto David, the king said unto him, O you Zayba, and he said, Thy servant is he. 00:21:36.140 --> 00:21:45.259 And the king said, Is there not any yet left of the house of Saul? 00:21:45.259 --> 00:21:52.579 that I may show the kindness of God unto him. 00:21:52.579 --> 00:22:04.660 And Zayba said unto the king, Jonathan has yet a son, who is lame on his feet. 00:22:04.660 --> 00:22:08.160 And the king said unto him, Where is he? 00:22:08.160 --> 00:22:19.660 And Zayba said unto the king, Behold, he is in the house of Maker, the son of Amiel and Lodabar. 00:22:19.660 --> 00:22:34.900 Then king David sent and fetched him out of the house of Maker, the son of Amiel from Lodabar. 00:22:34.900 --> 00:22:51.180 Now when Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, was come unto David, he fell on his face and did reverence, and David said, Mephibosheth? 00:22:51.180 --> 00:23:36.559 And he answered, Behold thy servant, and David said unto him, Fear not, for I will surely show you kindness for Jonathan thy father's sake, and he will restore thee all the land of Saul thy father, and thou shalt eat bread at my table continually.' And he bowed himself and said, 'What is thy servant, that thou shouldest look upon such a dead dog as I am?' Then the king called Dezayba, 'Saul's servant, and said unto him, 'I have given unto thy thy master's son all that pertain to Saul and to all his house. 00:23:36.559 --> 00:23:49.160 Thou therefore in thy sons and thy servants shall till the land for him, and thou shalt bring in the fruit that thy master's son may have food to eat. 00:23:49.160 --> 00:24:09.880 But Mephibosheth, thy master's son shall eat bread all the way at my table." Now Zayba had fifteen sons and twenty servants, then said Zayba unto the king, according to all that my Lord the king hath commanded his servant, so shall thy servant do. 00:24:09.880 --> 00:24:20.880 As for Mephibosheth, said the king, he shall eat at my table as one of the king's sons. 00:24:20.880 --> 00:24:30.220 And Mephibosheth had a son whose name was Micah, And all that dwelled in the house of Zayba were servants to Mephibosheth. 00:24:30.220 --> 00:24:41.460 So Mephibosheth dwelt in Jerusalem, for he did eat continually at the king's table, And was lame on both his feet. 00:24:41.460 --> 00:24:52.839 Wow! What a story! I want to unfold this and I want to show you how this illustrates the new covenant. 00:24:52.839 --> 00:24:55.599 I think you can see it, can't you not? 00:24:55.599 --> 00:24:58.440 It's there, it's beautiful, it's wonderful. 00:24:58.440 --> 00:25:04.220 Now the first thing I want us to see and notice is that Mephibosheth has a problem. 00:25:04.220 --> 00:25:08.759 What's his problem? 00:25:08.759 --> 00:25:13.180 He's lame on his feet. 00:25:14.559 --> 00:25:17.000 He cannot walk. 00:25:17.000 --> 00:25:20.500 Why is it that he cannot walk? 00:25:20.500 --> 00:25:32.240 Well if you look back you can find a story where when Saul and Jonathan and his sons were slain word comes back to the house of Saul. 00:25:32.240 --> 00:25:36.160 The Philistines have slayed them they realize how worthless they be overtaken. 00:25:36.160 --> 00:25:41.240 So Mephibosheth was five years old at this point. 00:25:41.240 --> 00:26:00.160 And so the servant picks him up and they take off running to flee for their lives and they fall and it breaks his legs and he is laying on his feet. 00:26:00.160 --> 00:26:14.200 The point is, we all have been wounded by a fall. 00:26:14.200 --> 00:26:30.940 And Adam, our Federal Head, representing all, partook of the fruit that was forbidden, he fell. 00:26:30.940 --> 00:26:33.799 He fell in the sin. 00:26:33.799 --> 00:26:45.759 He rendered us unable to walk, unable to approach, unable to get anywhere. 00:26:45.759 --> 00:26:51.619 I want us to realize this morning that in the fall we are rendered lame. 00:26:51.619 --> 00:26:52.619 We cannot get up. 00:26:52.619 --> 00:26:53.619 We cannot be carried. 00:26:53.619 --> 00:26:55.819 We cannot make it to God. 00:26:55.819 --> 00:27:01.299 There's nothing within us that can say, I'm going to get up. 00:27:01.299 --> 00:27:03.099 I'm going to walk before the King. 00:27:03.099 --> 00:27:05.880 I'm gonna present myself before the king. 00:27:05.880 --> 00:27:06.980 There is no ability. 00:27:06.980 --> 00:27:09.640 There is no ability. 00:27:09.640 --> 00:27:16.680 So we see that Mephibosheth has a problem that he's lame on his feet. 00:27:16.680 --> 00:27:20.799 The second thing we can notice about Mephibosheth is where he lived. 00:27:20.799 --> 00:27:23.079 Where did he live? 00:27:23.079 --> 00:27:26.940 It was a place called Lodi Bar. 00:27:26.940 --> 00:27:27.940 What does that mean? 00:27:27.940 --> 00:27:30.740 What does Lodi Bar mean? 00:27:30.740 --> 00:27:38.519 It means a place of no pasture, a place of dry land, a barren place. 00:27:38.519 --> 00:27:46.059 It was a place for rebels and renegades, a place for people with no hope. 00:27:46.059 --> 00:27:52.660 Is that not where we live in our sin? 00:27:52.660 --> 00:28:04.700 In the land of barrenness, in the land of rebels and renegades, in a land of no hope. 00:28:04.700 --> 00:28:07.259 So we see that Mephibosheth had a problem. 00:28:07.259 --> 00:28:09.299 We see the place where he was. 00:28:09.299 --> 00:28:10.299 He was lame. 00:28:10.299 --> 00:28:12.539 He was unable to get up and go. 00:28:12.539 --> 00:28:25.180 He was living in a place of no hope, no pasture, no hell. 00:28:25.180 --> 00:28:46.740 But the king said, Remembering the covenant, is there any of the house of Saul that I might show them kindness for Jonathan? 00:28:46.740 --> 00:28:57.220 Thirdly, Mephibosheth's reaction before the king in verse 6 and 8. 00:28:57.220 --> 00:29:24.019 Now when Mephibosheth the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, was come unto David, he fell on his face, he did reverence, he bowed himself and said, What is thy servant that thou shouldst look upon such a dead dog as I am? 00:29:24.019 --> 00:29:25.380 How is this relating? 00:29:25.380 --> 00:29:27.519 How is this relating to the new covenant? 00:29:27.519 --> 00:29:29.420 How is this relating in the gospel? 00:29:29.420 --> 00:29:33.920 How is this relating in our salvation? 00:29:33.920 --> 00:29:37.319 That we were unable? 00:29:37.319 --> 00:29:40.420 That we were living in sin, bearingness? 00:29:40.420 --> 00:29:59.779 But then when the king approach, when the king calls, when we realize our sinfulness, when we realize that there's nothing that we can do, we come to the end of the way, we come to the end of ourselves, what must we do? We bow in reverence before the king. 00:29:59.779 --> 00:30:02.420 And that the king would even address us. 00:30:02.420 --> 00:30:03.420 What? 00:30:03.420 --> 00:30:08.119 Why would you look upon such a dead dog as I am? 00:30:08.119 --> 00:30:24.000 I'm afraid in many places and in many minds, the gospel has been twisted and turned in such a way that we don't get that. 00:30:24.000 --> 00:30:32.240 See, you deserve the gospel and God wants to save you because you're so lovely. 00:30:32.240 --> 00:30:45.240 "You're so wonderful! You have so much to offer!" Mephibosheth had nothing to offer to the king. 00:30:45.240 --> 00:30:58.240 If the king was going to have servants, if he was going to bring people into his house, it was going to be men that could fight. It would be men that could serve. 00:30:58.240 --> 00:31:02.220 But Mephibosheth had nothing to offer. 00:31:02.220 --> 00:31:09.140 He bows himself, he humbles himself before the king. 00:31:09.140 --> 00:31:13.880 Now think of this. 00:31:13.880 --> 00:31:29.599 All that Mephibosheth probably would have known is what he had heard from others, what What he had heard maybe even at five years old what his grandfather was saying. 00:31:29.599 --> 00:31:32.660 And what was his grandfather saying? 00:31:32.660 --> 00:31:34.359 Find David. 00:31:34.359 --> 00:31:36.299 Kill David. 00:31:36.299 --> 00:31:38.460 Get David. 00:31:38.460 --> 00:31:40.859 Exterminate David. 00:31:40.859 --> 00:31:41.859 Execute David. 00:31:41.859 --> 00:31:44.740 Let's kill David. 00:31:44.740 --> 00:31:51.259 So when the king's servant shows up to Mephibosheth's door and says the king wants to see you. 00:31:51.259 --> 00:32:00.420 What is going on in Matthew the Chef's mind possibly? 00:32:00.420 --> 00:32:04.299 I may be the only one left of the house of Saul. 00:32:04.299 --> 00:32:09.539 I may be the only one left of the house of Jonathan. 00:32:09.539 --> 00:32:16.140 It would be me that would be king following Saul. 00:32:16.140 --> 00:32:18.980 David must thank me a threat. 00:32:18.980 --> 00:32:31.559 is surely going to bring me forth and do me in." His name is Absalom. 00:38:02.380 --> 00:38:10.599 Absalom rises in power, takes the throne away from David. 00:38:10.599 --> 00:38:12.579 David has to flee his house. 00:38:12.579 --> 00:38:14.159 He has to flee the city. 00:38:14.159 --> 00:38:20.239 And as they're fleeing, Ziba meets the king. 00:38:20.239 --> 00:38:30.519 And David says, "Where's Mephibosheth?" And Ziba says, he wanted to stay. 00:38:30.519 --> 00:38:40.000 And stake claim to all that is hiss. 00:38:40.000 --> 00:38:56.119 David says to Zayba with a broken heart, Everything that I gave to Mephibosheth, you can have it, it is all yours. 00:38:56.119 --> 00:39:00.860 The king is gone, but that is not the true story. 00:39:00.860 --> 00:39:10.800 Zayba tells Mephibosheth, I am going to saddle a donkey for you, and I am going to come get you and we are going to go. 00:39:10.800 --> 00:39:14.900 But Zayba never comes. 00:39:14.900 --> 00:39:20.519 He deceives Mephibosheth, he deceives David. 00:39:20.519 --> 00:39:32.900 And so for all the time that David is off the throne, Mephibosheth does it shave, does it bathe, does it cut his fingernails? 00:39:32.900 --> 00:39:38.139 He is mourning for David. 00:39:38.139 --> 00:39:51.519 So pretty boy Absalom gets his hair caught in his hand and dies. 00:39:51.519 --> 00:40:01.739 David goes back to the throne and the first person to meet him when he returns is Mephibosheth. 00:40:01.739 --> 00:40:13.260 And David said "Why did you not come with me?" He said, "Zayba the servant deceived me. 00:40:13.260 --> 00:40:22.300 He told me he was going to get a donkey and come for me, but he never did. 00:40:22.300 --> 00:40:28.380 David says, "Okay, I am just going to split the property. 00:40:28.380 --> 00:40:31.380 I am going to split the property between Zayba and you. 00:40:31.380 --> 00:40:37.019 You get half, he gets half."
