ministry. 00:07:42.899 --> 00:07:59.899 And how he has seen the resurrected Savior, which is the context of the resurrection and how Christ appeared to the various people, the Apostles, the Apostles 500 and last of all, he appeared to Saul of Tarsus. 00:07:59.899 --> 00:08:04.300 What we learned in this text is that we're saved by grace. 00:08:04.300 --> 00:08:07.500 And we are spiritually around 4 6 BC that when Christ died, he was around 30 33 years old, maybe 34 years old is hard to tell but we put the birth of Saul somewhere around 5 6 or 7 ad he's 10 years younger than all the an Apostle because I persecuted the Church of God." I remember being 17 years old, 16, 17 years old and I read the book of Acts for the first time like just reading through it and getting caught up in the story and I know I grew up in Sunday School. 00:12:16.399 --> 00:12:29.700 I knew I grew up hearing about Paul, but for whatever reason it was like the story was the first time I'm hearing it is 16, 17 years old and I did not really dawn on me that this guy named Saul comes Paul. 00:12:29.700 --> 00:12:30.700 I didn't have that. 00:12:30.700 --> 00:12:35.500 I didn't for whatever reason if I either heard it, forgot it or didn't realize it and never heard it. 00:12:35.500 --> 00:12:46.200 I don't know, but I'm reading through the book of Acts as a young man and I keep on reading about this man named Saul and I said, "I do not like this man." I remember not liking him. 00:12:46.200 --> 00:12:49.500 I remember thinking that I hope God brings judgment upon him. 00:12:49.500 --> 00:12:56.100 Something's got to happen to him and I was astonished when I found out that he became Paul. 00:12:56.100 --> 00:12:58.200 I knew who Paul was, but this is Saul. 00:12:58.200 --> 00:13:00.500 It's like how can this be? 00:13:00.500 --> 00:13:07.500 How can the man that persecuted the Church, the man who hated Christ, I mean you talk about a Pharisee of the Pharisees. 00:13:07.500 --> 00:13:08.799 He was self-righteous. 00:13:08.799 --> 00:13:10.100 He was a prideful man. 00:13:10.100 --> 00:13:13.399 He was an arrogant man and he wasn't seeking the Lord. 00:13:13.399 --> 00:13:17.700 He wasn't like trying to search out the Old Testament and look for the Messiah. 00:13:17.700 --> 00:13:21.299 In fact, he had heard about this new thing called the way. 00:13:21.299 --> 00:13:26.799 He had heard about Christianity, had heard about Christ and he said, "This is a deviation to Judaism. 00:13:26.799 --> 00:13:40.000 I've got to stomp it out." There was nothing to draw out compassion, nothing to draw out sympathy. 00:15:19.200 --> 00:15:25.299 All thing you could get when you looked at Saul was he deserves judgment. 00:15:25.299 --> 00:15:27.299 He's a evil man. 00:15:27.299 --> 00:15:29.200 He's a hard-hearted man. 00:15:29.200 --> 00:15:31.799 He's a prideful man. 00:15:33.100 --> 00:16:04.799 But he says when he recounts his own testimony in Acts 22 verse 6, "As I was on the way and drew near to Damascus about noon a great light from heaven suddenly shone around me and I fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to me, 'Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?' And I answered, 'Who are you, Lord?' And he said to me, 'I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom you're persecuting.'" You see, Paul didn't clean himself up. 00:16:04.799 --> 00:16:07.500 He didn't go to church for six months. 00:16:07.500 --> 00:16:11.000 He didn't put away his bad habits. 00:16:11.000 --> 00:16:13.600 He didn't stop doing the things he was doing. 00:16:13.600 --> 00:16:17.299 He didn't all of a sudden, it's like, look, now I can approach the Lord. 00:16:17.299 --> 00:16:18.700 Now I can pray. 00:16:18.700 --> 00:16:24.799 Now that I have really done some things to make myself feel better about myself, now the Lord's going to take notice of me. 00:16:24.799 --> 00:16:30.700 He didn't do any of these things and the Lord came to him while he was yet sinner. 00:16:31.700 --> 00:16:34.799 In the midst of his persecution, Christ come to him. 00:16:34.799 --> 00:16:47.299 He says it this way in Ephesians 3, 7, "Of this gospel I was made a minister according to the gift of God's grace, which was given to me by the working of his power. 00:16:47.299 --> 00:17:03.700 To me, though I am the very least of all the saints, this grace was given to me." So as he thinks about how he became what he is as an apostle, as he was reflecting upon this, he says, "I am what I am by the grace of God. 00:17:03.700 --> 00:17:10.799 I stand here today as an apostle by God's grace and God's grace alone. 00:17:10.799 --> 00:17:17.500 Don't look at me and say, 'Good hit, Wally.'" But I just can't buy into this election until I was reading Romans and I was reading it by myself and I came to Romanstein and I begin to argue with Paul and he argued back at me and I realized I wasn't arguing with Paul, I was arguing with God. 00:18:21.200 --> 00:18:26.200 And then when I realized like who am I and the God was talking to me, who are you old man?
