I used to travel to Europe every year. 00:00:15.000 --> 00:00:19.500 And then I couldn't afford to do it. 00:00:19.500 --> 00:00:26.300 So I figured a way to finance my desire to see the world. 00:00:27.000 --> 00:00:38.799 So the way I finance my journeys is I would plan a trip and I would bring people along with me and they would pay me a surplus, a little fee. 00:00:38.799 --> 00:00:43.000 And in that fee would cover my ticket price. 00:00:43.000 --> 00:00:47.000 Then my wife and I would travel essentially free to Europe every year. 00:00:47.000 --> 00:00:49.600 It was great until we had kids. 00:00:49.600 --> 00:01:08.000 But one of the things I would do with the group that was taking to Europe with me, I would plan it and I would build the slideshow PowerPoint with all the places we would see and all the things we would do and build up excitement and anticipation. 00:01:08.000 --> 00:01:11.500 This would be like six months out and we would gather together. 00:01:11.500 --> 00:01:23.599 I'd tell everybody how to pack and what to do, what to experience and the hotels we'd stay in and all these fun and wonderful things and everybody would have questions and they would want to know about this or that. 00:01:23.599 --> 00:01:32.000 And you could see the excitement and you can hear the excitement and the questions and the anticipations and it was a fun thing to do. 00:01:32.000 --> 00:01:35.900 Those presentations were great because we all longed to do that. 00:01:35.900 --> 00:01:44.000 We had something to look forward to and often in this life, we forget that we have something to look forward to. 00:01:44.000 --> 00:01:48.900 In my sermon today, I'm going to give you a presentation of what you get to look forward to. 00:01:49.799 --> 00:01:56.200 And the thing that I'm going to get to tell you about today should excite us about heaven. 00:01:56.200 --> 00:02:05.299 And particularly, I'm going to narrow down our presentation of the future for all of us who know the Lord. 00:02:05.299 --> 00:02:11.800 I'm going to look at what our bodies may be like, our glorified bodies. 00:02:11.800 --> 00:02:16.500 And so what kind of bodies are we going to receive? 00:02:16.500 --> 00:02:19.199 What can we anticipate and look forward to? 00:02:20.199 --> 00:02:26.099 I'm hoping, and this is the truth, I hope we're able to fly. 00:02:26.099 --> 00:02:34.199 I hear some amen and I want to fly when I get my new body. 00:02:34.199 --> 00:02:36.000 I dream of flying. 00:02:36.000 --> 00:02:51.199 Sometimes when I sleep at night, I have this dream that I can run and jump and then just take off and soar and look at the countryside by just floating over everything and soaring and flying. 00:02:51.199 --> 00:02:59.699 And I was like, what a wonderful thing that would be to not need an airplane or some type of machine to do that, but just fly through the air. 00:02:59.699 --> 00:03:04.199 I wonder if we're going to be able to fly in our new bodies. 00:03:04.199 --> 00:03:11.300 Wouldn't that be wonderful that God says you get this new body and here's one of the characteristics of that body. 00:03:11.300 --> 00:03:12.900 It's able to fly. 00:03:14.599 --> 00:03:19.199 But regardless if we're going to fly or not, maybe we will. 00:03:19.199 --> 00:03:21.300 I'm not for sure of that. 00:03:21.300 --> 00:03:24.800 What kind of bodies are we going to receive? 00:03:24.800 --> 00:03:27.199 Is it going to be flesh and blood? 00:03:27.199 --> 00:03:31.699 When we get our new bodies, if you prick us, are we going to bleed? 00:03:31.699 --> 00:03:37.699 Is there actually going to be flesh and meat like we have today? 00:03:37.699 --> 00:03:40.300 Is it going to have blood cells? 00:03:40.800 --> 00:03:45.300 Are we going to be made out of the 27 elements? 00:03:45.300 --> 00:03:50.099 You know, there's 118 elements in this universe that we know of. 00:03:50.099 --> 00:03:54.300 The body is made up of 26 of them. 00:03:54.300 --> 00:03:56.099 They're all found within the earth. 00:03:56.099 --> 00:04:05.599 God made us out of the dust and he took the elements and formed man out of the basic elements of the ground. 00:04:06.400 --> 00:04:12.500 We're made up 90 percent of us are made up out of oxygen, carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen. 00:04:12.500 --> 00:04:13.900 I mean, that's what we're made out of. 00:04:13.900 --> 00:04:17.199 Are those going to be the same elements of the new body? 00:04:17.199 --> 00:04:18.899 You thought about that? 00:04:18.899 --> 00:04:22.300 Or is it going to be a totally different type of body? 00:04:22.300 --> 00:04:33.699 Well, in our text in 1 Corinthians 15 starting in verse 35 and 49, this is the main question that Paul asks and seeks to answer. 00:04:34.199 --> 00:04:37.600 What type of body are we going to receive at the resurrection? 00:04:37.600 --> 00:04:46.300 Starting at verse 35 it says, but someone will ask, how are the dead raised and what kind of body do they come? 00:04:46.300 --> 00:05:00.199 You foolish person, what you sow does not come to life unless it dies and what you have sowed is not the body that it will be, but a bare kernel and perhaps a wheat or some other grain. 00:05:00.899 --> 00:05:12.699 But God gives it a body as he has chosen and to each kind has seed its own body for not all flesh is the same, but there's one kind for humans and another for animals, another for birds, another for fish. 00:05:12.699 --> 00:05:20.100 There are heavenly bodies and earthly bodies, but the glory of the heavenly is of one kind and the glory of the earthly is another. 00:05:20.100 --> 00:05:28.199 There is one glory of the sun and another glory of the moon, another glory of the stars, for stars differ from star in glory. 00:05:29.300 --> 00:05:31.899 So is it with the resurrection of the dead. 00:05:31.899 --> 00:05:35.899 What is sown is perishable, but what is raised is imperishable. 00:05:35.899 --> 00:05:39.100 It is sown in dishonor and is raised in glory. 00:05:39.100 --> 00:05:40.899 It is sown in weakness. 00:05:40.899 --> 00:05:42.199 It is raised in power. 00:05:42.199 --> 00:05:44.300 It is sown a natural body. 00:05:44.300 --> 00:05:47.100 It is raised a spiritual body. 00:05:47.100 --> 00:05:50.399 If there's a natural body, there's also a spiritual body. 00:05:50.399 --> 00:05:53.899 Thus it is written, the first man Adam became a living being. 00:05:53.899 --> 00:05:58.399 The last Adam became a living, giving spirit, a life-giving spirit. 00:05:59.100 --> 00:06:04.000 But it is not the spiritual that is first, but the natural and then the spiritual. 00:06:04.000 --> 00:06:07.800 The first man was from the earth, a man of dust. 00:06:07.800 --> 00:06:18.899 The second man is from heaven and as was the man of dust, so also are those who are of the dust and as it is from the man of heaven, so also are those who are of heaven. 00:06:18.899 --> 00:06:25.300 Just as we have borne the image of man of dust, that's our bodies today. 00:06:26.500 --> 00:06:29.500 We shall also bear the image of the man of heaven. 00:06:29.500 --> 00:06:35.000 So in this text, Paul begins with two questions. 00:06:35.000 --> 00:06:39.199 He's anticipating doubt within the Corinthians. 00:06:39.199 --> 00:06:42.300 This resurrection seems crazy. 00:06:42.300 --> 00:06:44.600 How can this be? 00:06:44.600 --> 00:06:47.699 How can the dead be resurrected? 00:06:47.699 --> 00:06:50.699 And if they are resurrected, what will they look like? 00:06:50.699 --> 00:06:52.399 What kind of bodies will they have? 00:06:52.399 --> 00:06:53.800 We see that in verse 35. 00:06:54.000 --> 00:06:57.800 But some will ask, number one, how are the dead raised? 00:06:57.800 --> 00:07:00.699 And number two, what kind of body do they come? 00:07:00.699 --> 00:07:05.800 So the first question is, how is this even possible? 00:07:05.800 --> 00:07:08.300 Think about that. 00:07:08.300 --> 00:07:09.600 It's almost unbelievable. 00:07:09.600 --> 00:07:16.600 Now, it's one thing to think of the Lord Jesus who died and was put in the grave and his body didn't see corruption. 00:07:16.600 --> 00:07:19.000 His body did not decay. 00:07:19.000 --> 00:07:22.300 The Bible, the Psalms tells us his body will not see corruption. 00:07:22.300 --> 00:07:23.500 It was sinless. 00:07:24.399 --> 00:07:28.500 And it didn't perish at all while it was in the tomb. 00:07:28.500 --> 00:07:29.399 It didn't stink. 00:07:29.399 --> 00:07:33.300 It didn't have any decomposition within his body. 00:07:33.300 --> 00:07:41.399 And to think that the soul would re-enter into that body and that same body that was laid there would be come up out of the grave. 00:07:41.399 --> 00:07:43.600 That's a miracle indeed. 00:07:43.600 --> 00:07:50.000 But what about bodies who've been dead in the grave for thousands of years? 00:07:50.000 --> 00:07:52.600 Think of the saints of Moses and Elijah. 00:07:53.600 --> 00:07:57.399 Where their bones, even their bones have decayed. 00:07:57.399 --> 00:08:01.100 Or think about those saints who have been lost at sea. 00:08:01.100 --> 00:08:06.300 Or even the worms have eaten up all that is left of them. 00:08:06.300 --> 00:08:12.000 Think of those who have been cremated and the ashes spread across the globe. 00:08:12.000 --> 00:08:16.100 And think of the ashes everywhere and maybe even dissolved. 00:08:16.100 --> 00:08:20.899 Completely vanished, if you would. 00:08:21.199 --> 00:08:25.100 And dust we have come and dust we shall return. 00:08:25.100 --> 00:08:29.399 How are those particles? 00:08:29.399 --> 00:08:32.200 Are there even particles left to be resurrected? 00:08:32.200 --> 00:08:33.600 How can this be? 00:08:33.600 --> 00:08:37.700 That's a marvel to think about. 00:08:37.700 --> 00:08:44.700 And so some would question the resurrection because of the seemingly impossibility of it. 00:08:44.700 --> 00:08:50.299 But it's not an impossibility. 00:08:50.299 --> 00:08:55.799 In fact, we see in verse 36 that how does resurrection happen? 00:08:55.799 --> 00:08:57.600 There's two things that has to happen. 00:08:57.600 --> 00:08:59.399 One, you have to die. 00:08:59.399 --> 00:09:01.799 Resurrection comes through death. 00:09:01.799 --> 00:09:04.100 Look at verse 36. 00:09:04.100 --> 00:09:13.600 "You foolish person, what you sow does not come to life unless it dies." To help explain this miracle of the resurrection. 00:09:13.600 --> 00:09:18.700 The Apostle Paul takes something that happens every day of our life. 00:09:18.700 --> 00:09:25.100 It's a miracle we see every day we see it, especially in the springtime. 00:09:25.100 --> 00:09:30.000 We see this thing called germination. 00:09:30.000 --> 00:09:34.899 And I don't know how it works. 00:09:34.899 --> 00:09:43.799 I did a little bit of research trying to see if I could be some type scientific and explain this, but I couldn't get any answers from Google. 00:09:43.799 --> 00:09:47.600 They told me the process. 00:09:47.600 --> 00:09:51.799 Scientists will tell you what happens, but not how it happens. 00:09:51.799 --> 00:10:01.700 How does a seed, if you take an acorn or kernel or some type of wheat seed or a little apple seed, take that. 00:10:01.700 --> 00:10:04.299 How does that produce an apple tree? 00:10:04.299 --> 00:10:12.000 And one of the process of that happening is the seed still has some moisture in it. 00:10:12.000 --> 00:10:16.399 There's still a bit of life in that seed. 00:10:17.399 --> 00:10:19.700 But that seed doesn't stay moist. 00:10:19.700 --> 00:10:21.600 It has to die. 00:10:21.600 --> 00:10:26.500 Whatever life remains in the seed has to vanish. 00:10:26.500 --> 00:10:34.299 So how does death take place in the seed and how does that produce germination? 00:10:34.299 --> 00:10:37.700 How does life come out of the dead seed? 00:10:37.700 --> 00:10:39.299 Explain that. 00:10:39.299 --> 00:10:45.500 Not just explain the process and what takes place, but explain how that happens. 00:10:46.500 --> 00:10:47.700 That's a miracle. 00:10:47.700 --> 00:10:50.700 It's a miracle that happens every day. 00:10:50.700 --> 00:11:07.299 It's amazing thing to think about that the oak trees that we have today that you have in your backyard have come from thousands of seeds that go back to the Garden of Eden. 00:11:07.299 --> 00:11:12.899 Most every tree and ever plant survived the flood. 00:11:13.899 --> 00:11:17.000 Maybe because Moses took seeds with them. 00:11:17.000 --> 00:11:22.500 But it survived the flood and those seeds could go back to the Garden. 00:11:22.500 --> 00:11:25.500 Everything but corn and broccoli. 00:11:25.500 --> 00:11:37.100 Yeah, everything that's good goes back and coconut probably wasn't in the Garden either. 00:11:41.100 --> 00:11:53.100 But what amazing miracle that something has to decompose before life sprouts from it. 00:11:53.100 --> 00:12:05.100 This is what it says, "What you sow does not come to life unless it dies." This principle of life from death is just the basic principle of Christianity. 00:12:05.100 --> 00:12:09.700 Christ had to die to produce life. 00:12:10.600 --> 00:12:12.500 Death comes from life. 00:12:12.500 --> 00:12:21.700 John 12, 24, Jesus says, "Truly, truly I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone. 00:12:21.700 --> 00:12:31.700 But if it dies, it bears much fruit." Whoever loves his life loses it and whoever hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. 00:12:31.700 --> 00:12:34.000 So if you're going to be a Christian, you got to die. 00:12:34.000 --> 00:12:35.899 This is in regeneration. 00:12:35.899 --> 00:12:38.299 The old man has to pass away. 00:12:38.799 --> 00:12:47.399 You have to be born again and out of the old man, that soul that is enslaved to sin has to die. 00:12:47.399 --> 00:12:54.000 The old way of life has to die before the new man is resurrected spiritually within you. 00:12:54.000 --> 00:13:00.600 You've already received the first resurrection through the Holy Spirit's work in your soul. 00:13:00.600 --> 00:13:04.500 But in death comes life. 00:13:04.500 --> 00:13:08.700 Paul said in Galatians 2, 20, "I have been crucified with Christ. 00:13:08.700 --> 00:13:10.000 I have died with Christ. 00:13:10.000 --> 00:13:11.500 Nevertheless, I live. 00:13:11.500 --> 00:13:12.100 I live. 00:13:12.100 --> 00:13:22.299 But the life that I now live, I live by the faith of the Son of God who died for me." So in regeneration, we have to die to be born again. 00:13:22.299 --> 00:13:35.600 But also in sanctification, the whole process of sanctification is living the Christian life by dying, dying to the world, dying to the flesh, dying to self, picking up our cross and following the Lord. 00:13:35.799 --> 00:13:38.700 And we have to die to this world if we want to live forever. 00:13:38.700 --> 00:13:43.000 If you want this world and live for this world, you're going to die eternally. 00:13:43.000 --> 00:13:46.600 But if you want to live eternally, you must die now. 00:13:46.600 --> 00:13:50.100 You must experience death to live. 00:13:50.100 --> 00:13:57.500 And this is the process of sanctification, of picking up our cross daily, dying daily. 00:13:57.500 --> 00:14:23.000 Paul put it this way, "I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish in order that I might know Him and the power of His resurrection and may share in His sufferings, becoming like Him in His death, that by any means possible I may obtain the resurrection from the dead." So we're aiming, we're aiming, folks, is not to live for this world. 00:14:23.000 --> 00:14:24.799 We're not aiming to live for this life. 00:14:24.799 --> 00:14:26.299 We're not aiming for retirement. 00:14:26.299 --> 00:14:31.100 We're not aiming just to get a little bit more goods laying up our treasures on earth. 00:14:31.100 --> 00:14:33.100 This is not the goal of the Christian life. 00:14:33.100 --> 00:14:35.700 We got this great vacation coming. 00:14:35.700 --> 00:14:41.200 This great reality that is approaching. 00:14:41.200 --> 00:14:48.299 And we're here to look at this morning at what that's going to look like, particularly what our bodies are going to look like. 00:14:48.299 --> 00:14:54.000 And thus glorification for us to receive that new body. 00:14:54.000 --> 00:14:57.100 This body needs to die. 00:15:00.299 --> 00:15:07.899 So rather than death and decomposition being a hindrance, it's actually part of the process. 00:15:07.899 --> 00:15:27.700 But we see in verse 37, the second aspect of how this is possible is not just through death, but it's through some form of metamorphosis, some form of transformation. 00:15:29.100 --> 00:15:33.899 Two or three years ago, I studied calipillars and butterflies. 00:15:33.899 --> 00:15:48.899 And I watched every YouTube video that was on the web at the time on these, the capturing the transformation of caterpillars. 00:15:48.899 --> 00:16:05.600 I don't understand it, but if you cut a carcass in two after a calipular puts himself in his cocoon and you cut it in at the middle of the process, it's nothing but goo. 00:16:05.600 --> 00:16:07.799 It's just goo. 00:16:07.799 --> 00:16:10.299 There's no here's the brain, here's the feet. 00:16:10.299 --> 00:16:12.399 It's just all blended together. 00:16:12.399 --> 00:16:18.600 How does that how does that take place? 00:16:18.600 --> 00:16:36.299 What was a calipular that looked in one form, had one type of body, goes through this process of transformation that turns into a totally more glorious thing, a butterfly. 00:16:36.299 --> 00:16:40.100 Look at verse 37. 00:16:40.100 --> 00:16:49.000 And what you sow is not the body that it will be, but a bare kernel, perhaps of wheat or some other grain. 00:16:49.000 --> 00:16:53.000 So he says, okay, this body is like the acorn. 00:16:53.000 --> 00:16:55.799 Our body is just a piece of it's like it's like a seed. 00:16:55.799 --> 00:16:56.700 It's like a kernel. 00:16:56.700 --> 00:17:01.000 It's it has one shape one form made up of physical substance. 00:17:01.000 --> 00:17:05.700 The elements of the world 26 particular elements is what we're made out of. 00:17:05.700 --> 00:17:09.900 That's what we're we look we have a particular shape and form. 00:17:09.900 --> 00:17:13.099 Humanity has the same top of body. 00:17:13.099 --> 00:17:15.099 We all look a little different. 00:17:15.099 --> 00:17:16.599 We we all look very similar. 00:17:16.599 --> 00:17:21.700 That's the body that is sewn into the ground and out of the ground comes something more glorious. 00:17:22.299 --> 00:17:23.400 Something greater. 00:17:23.400 --> 00:17:30.700 You see the resurrection is not a disregarding of the body. 00:17:30.700 --> 00:17:36.500 First of all, the resurrection is the acorn the oak tree comes from the acorn. 00:17:36.500 --> 00:17:40.799 You don't put the acorn over here and the oak tree comes out somewhere else. 00:17:40.799 --> 00:17:44.500 We're actually in reality the acorn had nothing to do with it. 00:17:44.500 --> 00:17:49.400 It's called resurrection because this body comes out of the grave. 00:17:49.900 --> 00:18:01.900 This body is the seed in which the new body springs out of it's not just here's a new creation and you got it gave you a body and that body dies. 00:18:01.900 --> 00:18:12.099 So he gives you a totally different body created out of nothing if you would and here's a new body that he gives you gives your soul to inhabit and to dwell in. 00:18:12.099 --> 00:18:14.599 No, he takes your old body. 00:18:14.599 --> 00:18:16.200 This is why it's called a resurrection. 00:18:16.200 --> 00:18:30.299 He takes the old body that decomposes and dies and in some cases is nowhere to be seen and brings that body the very elements of that body and brings life back into it. 00:18:30.299 --> 00:18:37.400 There are some that deny that this physical body will be resurrected. 00:18:37.400 --> 00:18:43.400 There are some who say the resurrection is already taking place and the resurrection is simply altogether spiritual. 00:18:46.099 --> 00:18:48.500 But the Bible makes it clear. 00:18:48.500 --> 00:18:51.099 It's called a resurrection. 00:18:51.099 --> 00:19:02.900 Roman 6 5 says if we have been united with him in his death, we should certainly be united with him and a resurrection like his. 00:19:02.900 --> 00:19:09.500 We know the resurrection hadn't taken place because we can dig up graves and find bones. 00:19:09.500 --> 00:19:12.099 We can find human remains. 00:19:13.099 --> 00:19:16.799 As long as you can find the acorn, you don't have an oak tree. 00:19:16.799 --> 00:19:20.599 As long as you can find human remains, you don't have a resurrection. 00:19:20.599 --> 00:19:24.599 You see the body is a seed that is sown into the ground. 00:19:24.599 --> 00:19:30.900 And verse 37 says what you sow is not the body that it will be. 00:19:30.900 --> 00:19:35.299 You see this resurrection is not. 00:19:35.299 --> 00:19:41.799 A revivification is not just it's not just. 00:19:42.900 --> 00:19:44.700 Refurbishing the old body. 00:19:44.700 --> 00:19:46.900 It's not resuscitation. 00:19:46.900 --> 00:19:53.900 I know someone who was declared clinically dead for six minutes. 00:19:53.900 --> 00:20:05.900 And they did CPR on them and they got the heart to beat again and breath was brought into the body and now he's live and well. 00:20:07.000 --> 00:20:13.200 So this resurrection is not just this same body coming up in the same way it was. 00:20:13.200 --> 00:20:29.099 But it's the physical body that comes up Romans 8 11 the spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you and he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies. 00:20:29.099 --> 00:20:32.299 Job 19 26. 00:20:33.299 --> 00:20:44.799 For I know that my Redeemer lives and at least he will stand upon the earth on the last day and after my skin this skin has been thus destroyed. 00:20:44.799 --> 00:20:50.200 Yet in my flesh I shall see God. 00:20:50.200 --> 00:20:51.599 That's the resurrection. 00:20:51.599 --> 00:20:55.700 This mortal body this flesh this skin coming back to life. 00:20:56.000 --> 00:21:04.000 Isaiah 26 19 your dead shall live and their body shall rise their bodies has to come up out of the grave. 00:21:04.000 --> 00:21:14.799 You who dwell in the dust awake and sing for joy you who dwell for your do is a do of light and the earth will give birth to the dead. 00:21:14.799 --> 00:21:21.299 Daniel 12 12 and many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake. 00:21:23.799 --> 00:21:36.599 John 5 28 do not marvel at this for hours coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice and come out those who have done good to the resurrection of life and those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment. 00:21:36.599 --> 00:21:42.599 So this body actually is the body that comes out of the grave. 00:21:42.599 --> 00:21:47.099 And so that's there's a connection with this body with the body to come. 00:21:47.099 --> 00:21:52.299 But the body to come is not exactly like the body that is sown. 00:21:52.299 --> 00:22:03.900 Our physical bodies will rise but not in the same physical form as a current bodies and that brings me to the main question of the text. 00:22:03.900 --> 00:22:05.400 What will they look like? 00:22:05.400 --> 00:22:08.700 What kind of bodies are we going to receive? 00:22:08.700 --> 00:22:17.400 Well in this rest of this text Paul gives us five characteristics of the new body. 00:22:17.400 --> 00:22:28.500 So if you're taking notes this is the main thesis the characteristics of the new body the five characteristics or attributes of the new body. 00:22:28.500 --> 00:22:34.700 First of all our new bodies will be different from our present bodies. 00:22:34.700 --> 00:22:37.700 We see this in verses 38 through 42. 00:22:37.700 --> 00:22:40.599 Our bodies will be different. 00:22:40.599 --> 00:22:45.000 Look at verse 37 and what you sow is not the body that it is to be. 00:22:46.099 --> 00:22:48.599 It's not going to be just like this body. 00:22:48.599 --> 00:22:52.599 In some ways there are many different bodies in the universe. 00:22:52.599 --> 00:22:54.000 Look Second Corinthians 5 tells us in verse 1. 00:26:29.599 --> 00:26:40.400 For we know that if our earthly house that's this tent this body is destroyed we have a building from God a house not made with having been clothed we shall not be found naked for we who are in this tent groan being burdened not because we want to be unclothed but further clothed that mortality may be swallowed up by life. Imagine all the in your head. individuals full of life. 00:29:51.799 --> 00:29:59.799 And as we grow older the aging process is not pleasant even on the appearance. 00:29:59.799 --> 00:30:05.000 And so this this and then it just gets worse and worse into the grave. 00:30:05.000 --> 00:30:09.799 We start to decompose and let's not go through all that process but it's not honorable. 00:30:09.799 --> 00:30:17.400 But is through this process that something glorious way more glorious will come out of it. 00:30:18.400 --> 00:30:24.400 And though we look at our earthly bodies and if you're over 30 or 40 you know that is breaking down. 00:30:24.400 --> 00:30:32.799 Some of you live with present constant pains that will never go away. 00:30:32.799 --> 00:30:41.400 They always have some type of eight that you have to work through and it's almost get adjusted to it. 00:30:41.400 --> 00:30:42.200 It's so bad. 00:30:45.400 --> 00:30:50.599 Well, I'm we're promised something way more glorious than what we have. 00:30:50.599 --> 00:31:05.400 Flippance 3 20 tells us for our citizenship is in heaven from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior the Lord Jesus Christ who will transform our lowly body. 00:31:05.400 --> 00:31:09.400 So whatever body you have now it's comparison to what you're going to get is lowly. 00:31:09.400 --> 00:31:14.400 Your lowly body that might be conformed to his glorious body. 00:31:15.400 --> 00:31:20.400 According to the working by which he is able even to do all things to himself. 00:31:20.400 --> 00:31:31.400 Isaiah 25 8 he will swallow up death forever and the Lord God will wipe away tears from our faces and the reproaches of his people he will take away from the earth. 00:31:31.400 --> 00:31:44.400 Romans 8 18 I consider that our present sufferings are not to be compared to the glory that will be revealed in us. 00:31:44.400 --> 00:31:46.400 So it's going to be glorious. 00:31:46.400 --> 00:31:52.400 Secondly, thirdly, the third characteristics of the new body is going to be immortal. 00:31:54.400 --> 00:32:01.400 Look at verse 3 43 the second part it is sown in weakness. 00:32:01.400 --> 00:32:04.400 It is raised in power. 00:32:04.400 --> 00:32:12.400 First Corinthians 6 14 and God raised the Lord and will also raise us up by his power. 00:32:12.400 --> 00:32:14.400 That is it's planted in weakness. 00:32:14.400 --> 00:32:17.400 It's the it's the life departing from us. 00:32:17.400 --> 00:32:19.400 It's death just taking over us. 00:32:19.400 --> 00:32:20.900 It doesn't. 00:32:20.900 --> 00:32:22.400 It's not hard to die. 00:32:22.400 --> 00:32:24.400 No effort is needed to die. 00:32:24.400 --> 00:32:29.400 It's giving up the ghost is giving up on life and death overtakes us all. 00:32:29.400 --> 00:32:31.400 That's the easy part. 00:32:31.400 --> 00:32:35.400 But to be resurrected takes power divine power. 00:32:35.400 --> 00:32:42.400 And we're going to come out not just with power but we're going to come out in mortal. 00:32:42.400 --> 00:32:45.400 The King James says the body is sown in corruption. 00:32:45.400 --> 00:32:48.400 It is raised in in corruption. 00:32:49.400 --> 00:33:15.400 First Peter 1 tells us verse 3 blessed be the God and father of our Lord Jesus Christ who according to his abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and does not fade away reserved in heaven for you who are kept by the power of God through faith for the salvation to be revealed at the last time. building from God a house not made with hands eternal in the heavens for we grown earnestly desiring to be clothed with a habitation which is from heaven if indeed having been clothed we shall be not end of this text in first Corinthians 15 verse 50 I tell you this brothers flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable behold I tell you a mystery we shall not all sleep but we shall all be changed in a moment in the twinkling of eye and the last trumpet for the trumpet will sound and the dead will be raised in perishable and we shall be for the hope the blessed hope of Christ's return when we're taken out of this evil age and we inherit our eternal reward not only will it be in mortal but it'll be spiritual. 00:35:10.400 --> 00:35:21.400 And in the early 46 it is sown a natural body is raised a spiritual body if there is a natural body there's also a spiritual body. 00:35:21.400 --> 00:35:25.400 We can't currently have a natural body. 00:35:25.400 --> 00:35:30.400 We currently have a natural body that we have inherited from the first man Adam. 00:35:30.400 --> 00:35:32.400 Where did you get your body. 00:35:32.400 --> 00:35:37.400 You got it from Adam. You got your body from your parents. 00:35:37.400 --> 00:35:42.400 Often you can tell all your your Don Johnson son you look just like your father. 00:35:42.400 --> 00:35:56.400 My father kind of looks like his father and either you look like your father your mother or a combination or your father and mother you can see family resemblance and that all goes all the way back to Adam. 00:35:56.400 --> 00:36:00.400 Because God made Adam out of the dust of the ground. 00:36:00.400 --> 00:36:16.400 He took dust from the ground and says I'm going to use this dust this earth these elements that are in the ground and I'm going to use and reconstruct these elements informed body and then I'm going to breathe in him a living soul. 00:36:16.400 --> 00:36:19.400 So the body comes from the ground. 00:36:19.400 --> 00:36:21.400 It came from Adam. 00:36:21.400 --> 00:36:23.400 It goes on to say in verse 45. 00:36:23.400 --> 00:36:46.400 Thus it is written the first man Adam became a living being verse in the last Adam became a life giving spirit verse 46 but is not the spiritual that is first but not but it's not the spiritual that is first but the natural and then the spiritual. 00:36:46.400 --> 00:36:51.400 That is you have the acre in first before you have the oak tree. 00:36:51.400 --> 00:37:02.400 You have this natural body that we received from the first Adam before we received the spiritual body that comes from the second Adam. 00:37:02.400 --> 00:37:05.400 So what is a spiritual body looks like. 00:37:05.400 --> 00:37:12.400 Well the spiritual body is not made out of the same. I don't believe is made out of the same elements of our physical body. 00:37:12.400 --> 00:37:15.400 It's not made out of the dust of the ground. 00:37:15.400 --> 00:37:17.400 It's not earthly. 00:37:17.400 --> 00:37:19.400 It's heavenly. 00:37:19.400 --> 00:37:22.400 In fact that's my fifth attribute. 00:37:22.400 --> 00:37:32.400 Our new bodies will be heavenly. We see this in verse 47 through 49 verse 47 says the first man was from the earth a man of dust. 00:37:32.400 --> 00:37:35.400 The second man is from heaven. 00:37:35.400 --> 00:37:46.400 So whatever the new body is going to be it's not going to be made from the dust of the ground from that body that was made from the dust of the ground is planted back into the ground. 00:37:46.400 --> 00:37:50.400 And from that comes a heavenly body. 00:37:50.400 --> 00:37:56.400 Again there's a hundred and eighty elements in this world this universe. 00:37:56.400 --> 00:38:01.400 Ninety elements are in our earth. 00:38:01.400 --> 00:38:06.400 And God took twenty six of those informed man. 00:38:06.400 --> 00:38:12.400 But our new bodies will be composed of something eternal heavenly. 00:38:12.400 --> 00:38:15.400 Something more spiritual. Look at verse 48. 00:38:15.400 --> 00:38:24.400 As was the man of dust so also those who are of the dust and as the man of heaven so also those who are of heaven. 00:38:24.400 --> 00:38:32.400 Just as we born the image of the man of dust we shall also bear the image of the man of heaven. 00:38:32.400 --> 00:38:35.400 What is that going to be like. 00:38:35.400 --> 00:38:43.400 Well first Corinthians 15 50 says I tell you this brother's flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. 00:38:43.400 --> 00:38:48.400 That is this new body is not going to have flesh and blood. 00:38:48.400 --> 00:38:51.400 Flesh and blood doesn't inherit the kingdom of God. 00:38:51.400 --> 00:39:02.400 We'll talk about this more next week but the kingdom of God is not the slow merger of this kingdom of this age until this age becomes more and more Christian. 00:39:02.400 --> 00:39:06.400 That's not the kingdom of God. You cannot see the kingdom of God unless you're born again. 00:39:06.400 --> 00:39:10.400 So your soul enters into it by faith through the new birth. 00:39:10.400 --> 00:39:15.400 But your body remains stuck on this earth. 00:39:15.400 --> 00:39:20.400 So we have the first fruits of the kingdom to come within us. 00:39:20.400 --> 00:39:25.400 And this body we're still here on this earth because this body cannot inherit the kingdom of God. 00:39:25.400 --> 00:39:28.400 It can enter into that kingdom. That kingdom is eternal. 00:39:28.400 --> 00:39:33.400 It's something so glorious this physical body can't endure there. 00:39:33.400 --> 00:39:38.400 It cannot live there. It's not suitable for the age to come. 00:39:38.400 --> 00:39:43.400 Now I do believe in a new earth. I believe this earth will be destroyed and out of this earth. 00:39:43.400 --> 00:39:53.400 This earth is kind of like an acorn that produces a new earth and a new heaven where only righteousness dwells and eternal life abides in this new earth. 00:39:53.400 --> 00:39:59.400 But this new earth is not going to look just like this earth anymore than this body is going to look like the new body. 00:39:59.400 --> 00:40:03.400 It's going to be a heavenly earth. 00:40:03.400 --> 00:40:07.400 It's going to be a physical place and physical bodies if you would. 00:40:07.400 --> 00:40:11.400 If we can use the word physical it's going to be literal bodies. 00:40:11.400 --> 00:40:19.400 Maybe that's the better word. Literal earth, a literal heaven, we're going to have real bodies. 00:40:19.400 --> 00:40:22.400 But it's going to be it's going to transcend. 00:40:22.400 --> 00:40:31.400 The age that comes going to transcend all these 118 elements that we currently see. 00:40:31.400 --> 00:40:40.400 It's going to be glorious in comparison. 00:40:40.400 --> 00:40:46.400 I believe our new bodies are going to look similar to the resurrection of Jesus. 00:40:46.400 --> 00:40:55.400 Romans 6 5 for we've been united with him in death like his we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. 00:40:55.400 --> 00:41:13.400 Philippians 3 21 but our citizenship is in heaven and we eagerly await a saver from there the Lord Jesus Christ who by the power that enables him to subject all things to himself will transform our lowly bodies to be like his glorious body. 00:41:13.400 --> 00:41:23.400 So Jesus Christ after the resurrection in his incarnation he took a body like Adam's flesh and blood. 00:41:23.400 --> 00:41:28.400 We know that because he bled blood. 00:41:28.400 --> 00:41:35.400 When he died it was a perishable body that could be put to death. 00:41:35.400 --> 00:41:41.400 When he rose again you could not have killed the resurrected Christ. 00:41:41.400 --> 00:41:48.400 What did that body look like? Well it looked similar to the old body but it was more glorious. 00:41:48.400 --> 00:41:55.400 You go and read the accounts of the resurrection there is something that was different about his body. 00:41:55.400 --> 00:42:00.400 One, the disciples didn't recognize him. 00:42:00.400 --> 00:42:07.400 How could they have not known Jesus? Remember Mary at the Garden's like thought Jesus was the gardener. 00:42:07.400 --> 00:42:10.400 Was it just out of confusion? 00:42:10.400 --> 00:42:15.400 It is like well that was just she was just shocked. She just wasn't expecting Jesus so she couldn't believe it could have been Jesus. 00:42:15.400 --> 00:42:20.400 Well what about all the other times he appeared? 00:42:20.400 --> 00:42:26.400 He is almost like his body was different. 00:42:26.400 --> 00:42:34.400 His appearance was different and it is almost like he had to speak to them before they recognized that yes this is him. 00:42:34.400 --> 00:42:39.400 Something was changed because before the resurrection he lived with the disciples. 00:42:39.400 --> 00:42:43.400 Where they slept he slept. Where he went they were together. 00:42:43.400 --> 00:42:50.400 After the resurrection he appeared to them five times but did not stay and live with them. 00:42:50.400 --> 00:42:55.400 It was something uniquely different about his body. 00:42:55.400 --> 00:43:04.400 In fact he was able to in that body just enter into rooms, locked rooms and just enter in and leave instantaneously. 00:43:04.400 --> 00:43:07.400 He never did that before the resurrection. 00:43:07.400 --> 00:43:14.400 So maybe he is able to fly and maybe if we are going to have a body like his just maybe. 00:43:14.400 --> 00:43:16.400 Fingers crossing. 00:43:16.400 --> 00:43:23.400 I think we might be able to fly because the Bible says it is going to be way greater than we can even think and imagine. 00:43:23.400 --> 00:43:29.400 To be able just to spontaneously go from one place to another place without any hindrance. 00:43:29.400 --> 00:43:36.400 Wouldn't that be amazing? It seems like that is the way Christ did after his resurrection. 00:43:36.400 --> 00:43:44.400 Maybe we will be like the angels in some ways. 00:43:44.400 --> 00:43:51.400 I don't know altogether. In this text does it seek to fully give us all the details? 00:43:51.400 --> 00:43:58.400 I think one of the reasons is because I don't think we have the categories of thought to capture it. 00:43:58.400 --> 00:44:00.400 I think we are limited. 00:44:00.400 --> 00:44:05.400 I can promise you whatever that body is going to be like it is going to be greater than this sermon. 00:44:05.400 --> 00:44:13.400 Whatever expectations that we can place upon it is going to far a seed our father's imagination. 00:44:13.400 --> 00:44:16.400 It is going to be spectacular. 00:44:16.400 --> 00:44:19.400 Daniel 12 talks about it in verse 2. 00:44:19.400 --> 00:44:26.400 "And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake and some to everlasting life and some to shame and everlasting contempt. 00:44:26.400 --> 00:44:38.400 And those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the sky above." Well shine like the stars. 00:44:38.400 --> 00:44:53.400 "Eye has not seen or ear has heard what God has prepared for us." Think of this. In John 17 he says, "I go away from you to prepare a place for you." He is talking about your bodies. 00:44:53.400 --> 00:45:14.400 He says, "Father, I want those who have given me to be with me where I am that they may see the glory you gave me because you loved me before the foundation of the world." We are going to have the proper bodies to be able to dwell in glory. 00:45:14.400 --> 00:45:30.400 Colossians 3-4, "When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory." We are obviously going to be sinless. 00:45:30.400 --> 00:45:44.400 We are going to be perfected, what we call glorified, our bodies and soul, perfectly glorified. 00:45:44.400 --> 00:45:56.400 I like what John says in 1 John 3-2, "Beloved, we are now children of God and what we will be has not yet been revealed." We don't really know. 00:45:56.400 --> 00:46:07.400 I told my parents when I was going to Switzerland, "If you haven't been to Switzerland, you need to go." Right, Pat? 00:46:07.400 --> 00:46:27.400 I went there when I was 26 years old and it was almost like, "Can this be?" I was coming down on the Golden Pass from Lezern into Interlaken, taking that rail, and I was coming down the mountains. 00:46:27.400 --> 00:46:36.400 All of a sudden, this vista of mountains opened up and I saw these two brilliant blue lakes. 00:46:36.400 --> 00:46:46.400 I said to myself, "Is this even real? Can this be?" Nothing in my life I've ever seen that amazing. 00:46:46.400 --> 00:46:52.400 I remember on one of these sales pitches, I was telling my parents about Interlaken and about Switzerland. 00:46:52.400 --> 00:46:58.400 I was hyping it up and helping them daydream about what they're going to experience and what they're going to see. 00:46:58.400 --> 00:47:03.400 I built it up and you could see the excitement in their faces. 00:47:03.400 --> 00:47:16.400 I remember when we were in the train going into Interlaken, I was like, "Baby, I oversold it and they're going to be disappointed." I started thinking that it might not be what I remembered. 00:47:16.400 --> 00:47:21.400 Your imagination built things up. The fish was this big, now it's that big. 00:47:21.400 --> 00:47:24.400 I thought I maybe oversold it to them. 00:47:24.400 --> 00:47:45.400 As we were going down, I was thinking to myself, "No, this is better than I remember." I looked at my mom and said, "Is this what you expected?" She said, "You didn't even tell us half of it." I'll tell you about glories to come, particularly your bodies that you're going to receive. 00:47:45.400 --> 00:47:51.400 We can barely explain it. It's going to be glorious. 00:47:51.400 --> 00:48:04.400 If this is going to be the case, if this is your future reality for all of us, if this is what we're going to receive, if this is what God has in store for us, how then should we live? 00:48:04.400 --> 00:48:12.400 The last verse of this text, and we'll get to it next week, brings the application out. 00:48:12.400 --> 00:48:29.400 It says, "Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain." We are above men not to be pitied. If there was no resurrection, pity us. 00:48:29.400 --> 00:48:37.400 But because there is a resurrection and the new bodies is more glorious than we can even imagine, then all that we do is not in vain. 00:48:37.400 --> 00:48:42.400 Therefore, let all that we do in this life be done for the age to come. 00:48:42.400 --> 00:48:48.400 Let us not lay up our treasures on earth. Let's not live for this mortal body. This is not our home. 00:48:48.400 --> 00:48:54.400 As Galatians 1 tells us, we have been redeemed out of this world. 00:48:54.400 --> 00:48:59.400 We've been redeemed out of this present evil age. Now our citizenship is in heaven. 00:48:59.400 --> 00:49:04.400 That is the age that we look for. That's what we live for. That's what we invest in. 00:49:04.400 --> 00:49:10.400 Not in this life, but in the life to come. And it's going to fore-exceed all of our expectations. 00:49:10.400 --> 00:49:21.400 And this is why Jesus says, when you give and when you help people, help those who can't help you back, because you will be rewarded on the day of the resurrection.
