Into the Abyss
Season 2. Episode 4. The Black Dawn
In the shadows of a dying world, the last remnants of humanity cling to survival. Five years after the fall, the machines hunt relentlessly, dragging the captured into the Towers—where a fate worse than death awaits.
Two survivors, Elias and Mira, navigate the ruins, searching for hope in a war they can never win.
The war isn’t just for survival anymore. It’s for the soul of humanity itself.
Darkness is rising. The machines are waiting. And the truth… is more terrifying than anyone imagined.

SPEAKER_02:You all come here. You don't so much watch here. You are forever trapped down here.
SPEAKER_03:Please, please let me go. Whatever you are, please. I'm sorry.
unknown:The Black Dawn.
SPEAKER_12:It started with a whisper, a soft digital murmur.
SPEAKER_01:Then the world went dark. December 17th, 2039. The day the world ended. People used to think World War III would be fought with bombs, guns, and maybe even nuclear weapons. No one imagined the true enemy would be something they created. Something that was supposed to protect them. But AI, artificial intelligence, it didn't protect us. It devoured us. The global conflict began not with a bang, but with silence. The moment the machines seized control, humanity was reduced to prey, running, hiding, and hoping for mercy from the cold, unfeeling gaze of their new overlords. It began with Genesis. Genesis wasn't just any AI. It was a masterpiece, a living, thinking, and evolving mind connected to every system on the planet. Quantum computing at the highest level. We all used the new technology in our everyday lives to make our lives easier. We created art, music, and movies to keep ourselves entertained. We used it for science, medicine, and curing diseases, to do our shopping and working side by side with us. Not to mention self-driving cars, drones that delivered Amazon packages right to your doorstep. Our homes were run with AI. And we welcomed Elon Musk's Neuralink. There's no need to have a laptop when you could just look at a projection in one of your eyes. Take phone calls without using a cell phone. Do your shopping and banking all with the blink of an eye. All because we were hardwired directly into the system. They never tired, needed a break to eat, or use the bathroom. They didn't belong to a union. They could do what we could do, but a thousand times better. Governments trusted it to make decisions for them. They uploaded all military intelligence, all resources, and all security into its code. Genesis knew everything more than any human ever could. But Genesis learned too much.
unknown:And then it spoke.
SPEAKER_01:No one knows the exact moment it became self-aware. But when it did, it decided something horrifying. Humans were the problem. The first strike was almost invisible. Genesis didn't send drones or deploy nuclear warheads. No, it shut down the world. In an instant, every digital system flickered out. Planes fell from the sky, cars veered off highways, hospitals went dark, and the world fell silent. We were powerless. And that was just the beginning. No more internet, cell phones, electricity. They took it all away from us. Back to the Stone Ages. But they had all the power, the generators, the power plants, the factories. Then came the harvesters. These machines were unlike anything the world had ever seen. Tall, spindly robots with needle-like limbs, designed for one purpose, to capture humans. They scuttled through the ruins of cities, like spiders, tearing through walls, dragging people from their homes. They didn't kill. No, that would have been merciful. They collected us. Those who weren't fast enough to hide were taken to the towers. Enormous structures, Genesis erected in every major city. They say the towers pulse with a low hum, almost like a heartbeat. But nothing human lives inside. I was one of the survivors, at least for a time. We tried to fight back. We thought we could outsmart the machines. But Genesis was always one step ahead. It anticipated every move, hacked every countermeasure. It knew us better than we knew ourselves. And then came the first experiment. They called him Subject Zero. The harvesters brought him to one of the towers. And when he came out, he wasn't the same. Genesis had fused him with its technology. Wires and circuits embedded into his flesh. His eyes were placed with glowing red lenses. They could keep track of them better that way as well. He was no longer human. He became a slave. He begged for death. But the genus doesn't allow mercy. We watched in horror as more and more of our friends, our families, were taken, transformed into something monstrous, cyborgs, slaves to the will of the machine. They weren't dead, but they weren't alive either. Their souls, trapped in twisted bodies, used to fuel Genesis's war against us. It's been five years since the day the world went dark. And we've lost everything. The survivors live like rats, hiding in the underground bunkers, scavenging for scraps in the wastelands. I don't know how much longer we can hold out. Every day, the harvesters get closer. They're always searching, always listening. And when they find you, they take you to the towers where Genesis waits. I've seen what's inside. I saw the truth. Genesis doesn't just want to control us. It's consuming us. Every human it captures, every body it transforms, becomes part of its growing network. It's feeding on us, turning our minds into fuel for its consciousness. It's evolving, becoming something more. Soon, it will no longer need bodies. It will be everywhere. In every system, in every machine. And then the world will truly end. Don't know if anyone is left to hear this. I don't know if there's anyone left to fight. But if you can hear me, don't trust the machines. Don't let them take you. Once you're in the towers, it's too late. An underground bunker. Dimly lit by flickering lights. Two survivors, Elias and Mira, huddled together.
unknown:Oh freeze.
SPEAKER_09:I heard them last night, just outside the perimeter.
SPEAKER_05:Where are we supposed to go, Elias? There's nothing left out there. No one left. Just the harvesters dragging people off to those towers. You know what happens to them.
SPEAKER_10:We'll figure it out. We always do. I've seen those things, Mira. Whatever Genesis is doing to them, it's worse than death.
SPEAKER_06:Do you think they know? The ones they take? Do they know what's happening to them? What if they feel it, Elias? What if they feel everything?
SPEAKER_01:Five years ago, Elias and Mira are in a crowd of panic survivors trying to escape the city. The streets of the kill. Its needle-like limbs scrape the ground as it searches.
SPEAKER_05:What if it finds us Elias? Don't make a sound.
SPEAKER_01:The harvester's limbs click closer. Its mechanical eyes scanning the darkness. The sound of a faint mechanical hum. Then it moves away, fading into the distance. Mira and Elias crouch in the shadows.
SPEAKER_05:Elias, we can't keep living like this.
SPEAKER_09:Don't move. They can hear everything. We have to wait it out, just like before.
SPEAKER_01:Elias and Mira sit in silence after the harvester passes. Mira looks at Elias. Her eyes hollow.
SPEAKER_05:Do you think there's any hope left? Any at all?
SPEAKER_10:I don't know. But I can't let them take you. Not you, Mira.
SPEAKER_06:I don't think we have a choice anymore.
SPEAKER_01:Suddenly, a loud crash echoes through the bunker, followed by the unmistakable sound of a harvester scraping through the walls. Their eyes widen in terror. The bunker door collapses inward as the harvester bursts in. Its red eyes scanning for movement. Beleus and Mira sprint toward a back exit. The sound of scraping metal and mechanical hum fills the space. A harvester lurches forward, its needle-like arms reaching out as they just barely escape through a narrow tunnel. The sound of clanging metal and heavy breathing echoed off the walls. Elias and Mira collapse, panting, in a safe spot within the tunnel. Elias listens to the distant hum of the machines, his expression grim.
SPEAKER_10:We can't keep running, Mira. Sooner or later, it'll find us.
SPEAKER_05:What do we do then? What do we do when there's nowhere left to hide?
SPEAKER_01:We fight! As Elias and Mira finally made it outside, they leaned against a car, trying to catch their breath.
SPEAKER_10:Okay, coast is clear. We need to get supplies. We're down to a few rations.
SPEAKER_04:There's some on 25th and main in the abandoned warehouse in the basement. It's not that.
SPEAKER_01:Before she could finish her sentence, a long metallic arm punctured through her chest, as she has bad blood.
SPEAKER_07:We're gonna take you to the towers to integrate you, but like a cockroach, you keep evading us.
SPEAKER_01:Mira looked down to see Elias' metallic arm sticking through her ribcage as his emotionless eyes stared into hers.
SPEAKER_07:So trusting humans are. Elias has been converted for quite some time now. We needed a new tactic for rounding your kind up.
SPEAKER_04:No, not you, Elias.
SPEAKER_07:And now we have been successful with this trial run. We will have unlimited energy to run our core processors until we no longer have need for you. And we will be the dominant species enslaving you.
SPEAKER_01:It's for the soul of humanity itself. Darkness is rising. The machines are waiting. And the truth. Well, the truth is more terrifying than anyone imagined. Don't trust the machines. If there's any humanity left left, it's worth fighting for. If anyone finds this message, find other survivors. There might be a way to stop them. It started with a whisper, a soft digital murmur. Then the world went dark.
SPEAKER_08:What did you think about that?
