In the quiet woods of Renovo, Pennsylvania, something crashes from the sky. What begins as a curious search by two teenagers quickly spirals into a chilling chain of events that no one sees coming.

Tommy and Becky laid their bikes down in the woods as they made their way to the impact site.

Dude, I told you I saw it land right over this ridge. If we find whatever it is, it could be worth some cash.

It's probably just some old piece of a satellite. Or nothing at all, Tommy. Why'd you bring that stupid Geiger counter anyway?

Because it's wicked cool, Becky. What if it's an alien or a meteor? Holy crap. Either way, we're gonna be famous.

Becky rolled her eyes at him as she lit a cigarette.

Shine your light over that way. Go ahead, use your stupid Geiger counter thing.

This time it was Tommy who rolled his eyes at her. He asked Becky for a smoke as he did. The Geiger counter began clicking wildly as a little green light began pulsing on the control panel.

Over here, whatever it is, it's glowing.

Tommy exhaled a puff of white smoke that dissipated into the night air. He picked up a stick and poked the shiny black softball-sized thing.

Something's moving inside! Tommy, don't touch it!

The shiny black pod opened up and some kind of slimy green tendril shot out and latched onto Tommy's ankle. Tommy screamed as the small viny things began burrowing into his skin. Becky dropped the flashlight, said, fuck this, and ran to her bike. Tommy begged her for help and to come back. But no such luck. It was a hazy Saturday morning as Sheriff Maddox poured his third cup of coffee of the morning. He ran his fingers through his balding hair and put his sheriff's hat back on his head.

So let me get this straight. You and your friend Tommy are playing in the woods last night looking for whatever the hell you think you saw crash. You find it. Then what?

I already told you, Sheriff. Why the fuck aren't you listening? It hatched. It opened and something something grabbed him. I lost my shit and ran. Jesus Christ, I just left him. I was so scared. I panicked. He was my best friend.

Mr. Douglas, did you and Tommy was it? Were you under the influence of any illegal substances? The devil's lettuce, shrooms, or maybe you snuck into your daddy's liquor cabinet.

No, it wasn't anything like that. I don't do drugs or drink.

Okay. Okay. Sam, take the squad car down there and check it out. Bring the PPE kit with the gloves and masks and shit. Let me know what you find and if there's any sign of the boy. In the meantime, Miss Douglas, go home and get some rest. I'm sure he'll turn up. You know how boys can be. But also, I wouldn't leave town any time in the near future.

What are you saying, Sheriff? Are you saying I'm a suspect?

No, I'm not saying that at all. But I have to keep every option open.

Deputy Burns parked the car a few feet from the trail where Tommy went missing and walked over the bluff. As Sam got closer to the site, he noticed what looked like bones and carcasses of animals.

I am. What you got for me? Any sign of a kid? Or any bullshit meteor?

Look at this thing. Run everywhere. It's like it grew overnight. Like a fucking tropical island out here in the forest. I've hunted these woods ever since I was a kid. And I ain't never seen any vegetation like this.

Over here, we found something. It's him or what's left of him.

His face is cute off. Shut that place down, fucking ASAP. Secure the area. We got a murder on our hands. Send someone over to Miss Douglas's house, pick her up. I got some questions that need answering.

Just then Burns hears something behind him. As he turns around, he feels the forest come alive. What looked like plant roots encircle his arms and legs, thick thorny vines squelching thou his skin, drawing blood immediately. A huge pod, like a venous flytrap, suddenly tilted back, as a mouthful of razor-sharp teeth glistening with blood and saliva. It closed itself shut over the man's arms and ripped them off and swallowed it whole.

Holy fuck! What the fuck just happened? Officer down. Oh my god, Deputy Burns.

Just then, two other man eating plants opened their mouths as well. Sheriff Maddox heard gunshots in the background. Then static on the radio. Then nothing.

We're advising all residents to stay indoors. Please stay indoors. The CBC has just issued a mandatory lockdown. Scientists are working around the clock to figure out what this mysterious vegetation is, where it came from. But whatever it is, it's dangerous. Emergency EM's crews will be on site to make sure that you are safe. They will use force if necessary. Do not approach any unusual vegetation. The reports are saying that whatever this is, it's taking over everything downtown. These gigantic pods are growing everywhere. The National Guard has been deployed.

What are you guys hiding? More gunshots rang out. People running around, some in their houses, some just didn't make it. Bloody body bits covered the streets. These vines were as thick as trees. The thorns were impassable. Like Jack and the fucking beanstalk in a nightmare.

Similar reports now from Oregon. London has declared martial law. Plague of aggressive plant life in Tokyo. Entire city blocks overtaken. Do not approach this vegetation. Whatever it is, it's extremely dangerous. Mass casualties have also been reported.

From a single seed came the end of the world. Traveling millions of light years away. It fed on us, grew from us. Now it is us. We were the soil. These galactic spores traveled the cosmic winds and made their way to other planets, spreading, taking over, and devouring.
