There are moments when everything you’ve prayed for feels like it’s hanging in the balance — not finished yet, but somehow already decided.
That’s exactly where Jesus prays in John 17.

In this episode of the PRESS Movement Podcast, we step into one of the most powerful prayers ever recorded — the prayer Jesus prayed right before everything changed. He declares, “Father, the hour is come,” and begins speaking as though the work is already finished… even though the cross is still ahead.

This prayer reveals something crucial about faith: what God has purposed can be done before it’s over.

Jesus doesn’t just pray for Himself — He prays for His disciples, and then He prays for you. He prays that you would be kept, sanctified, unified, and sustained while living in a broken world. He prays with confidence, alignment, and authority — not uncertainty.

This episode will help you understand:

  • How to pray when the pressure is high
  • Why faith can speak in past tense before the outcome appears
  • What it means to walk in prayers that were already prayed for you

If you’ve ever wondered how to keep going when the moment feels heavy, this prayer will show you how to stand, believe, and PRESS — because prayer reaches every single situation.

Press means to apply force. When God said press, prayer reaches every single situation. He gave us permission to apply force to every situation that we will go through.

And in this podcast, we are going to learn to apply force to what's applying pressure to us. Greetings, everyone. Welcome to the Press Movement Podcast.

I'm so glad that you're here today. We are going to the book of John, the 17th chapter. And while you're getting that, I just want to make sure that you are watching out for the press movement in 2026, for the things God will allow us to do, the places we're going to show up for press conferences, and just keep rolling with us in this podcast.

I thank God because the podcast has shown us how the Bible teaches us to pray and the strategy God gives to prayer. I do believe that God has strategy for his people to fight in this hour. We do not have to fight or run as those who are uncertain.

We don't fight as those that beat the air, but we have targeted weaponry and targeted things we are to attack in prayer. And in the books of the Bible and in this study of the prayers of the Bible, we find strategy. So stay tuned because the strategy is unfolding before us in the New Testament.

And in the book of John chapter 17, I don't know that we'll read the whole chapter because the whole chapter is literally the prayer of Jesus. But here, it reminded me of having in the past had to study for a test all night and feeling that buildup when you knew it was test time, you knew you were prepared, but you also knew it was time to execute. Or perhaps you may have trained for an event or prepared to move.

You spend so much time on the preparation and getting things boxed up and packed and sorted. And when it's time to move, it's time for it to all come together. But there's this heightened emotion, this heightened awareness that everything has led to this.

That's where we are in this prayer. The moment that everything has led to this. It's all coming together because Jesus opens up in John 17 in one and he says, Father, the hour is come.

Glorify thy son that thy son also may glorify thee. This is the moment. This is the hour Jesus was born for.

He was sent for. And in this prayer, I find it to be so interesting because while he's praying, God glorify thy son and let thy son glorify thee. He's also saying, I have glorified thee.

I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do in verse four. I have manifested thy name in verse six. I have kept thy word in verse six.

He even goes as far as to say in John 17 11, and now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world and I come to thee. So he speaks as somebody who's already finished, even though he had not died on the cross yet, even though there would be more science to prove who he was and prophecies that needed to be fulfilled in the process of him dying and going to the cross. He's still speaking, saying this is finished.

I finished the work. I glorified thy name. I manifested thy name.

I'm not even in the world anymore. I remember I have a children's camp and in children's camp, it was like 2016. I was praying about it, praying about, praying about it.

At that time, children's camp was like in October and I think it was around August. I'm not quite sure the date. I know it was in October, but as I was praying about it, the Lord dropped in my heart, it's not over, but it is done.

And when he said that to me, I knew that everything I was praying for God to do at camp, everything he had purpose to do was already finished, though camp was not over yet because it hadn't started. I thank God because the word of the Lord and who God is, his purpose is not limited or governed by time. He can write something that's done before we finish it.

To simplify that concept even more, the Holy Ghost helped me see it a little differently in that I've watched movies before and even though I may be at the start of the movie, I never questioned if the movie had an ending. I just let it play out. You see, I knew when the movie came on the screen that there was an ending, that it wasn't a movie because there was just an opening or there was just a middle, but I knew that in waiting and letting it unfold, that ending would unfold so I could see it.

And even before I saw it, the ending was still written. It just wasn't known to me until I saw it. Same thing here.

It's already done. When God gives purpose and we align with that purpose, what he said will be is done. Jesus is praying that it's done though it's not over yet.

He's teaching us a lot about faith even in this prayer, about how we can walk with God, about how we can respond when the Lord gives a word and we're waiting to see the details of it. We can trust God that it's not over, but it is done. Likewise, the other thing that stood out to me in this prayer is in John 17 and 9. He said, I pray for them.

I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me, for they are thine. The things that Jesus would say and ask God for in John 17 were not for the world, but for the saints, for his followers, his disciples. He prayed things like verse 15, when he said, I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from evil.

He said, they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. Sanctify them through thy truth. Thy word is truth.

As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world. And for their sakes, I sanctify myself that they also might be sanctified through truth. Then he takes it a step further, not just praying for the disciples or the brethren that were in that time, but praying for us.

Did you know Jesus prayed for you? He prayed that this world would not take you out, that you could represent him. He said in verse 20, neither pray I for these alone, but for them also, which shall believe on me through their word, that they all may be one as thou father art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us, that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. And the glory which thou gavest me, I have given them that they may be one, even as we are one.

I in them and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that thou hast sent me and hast loved them as thou hast loved me. That prayer was for you, that you'll be in God, that what he'll do in you will show the world he loves you and you love him. He prayed that you'd be able to finish the mission he started in the same authority, strength, love, and unity in which he started.

How powerful is it to know that if nobody else is praying for you, if nobody else sees you, if you're giving and being used by God and it feels like you're just constantly poor and poor and poor, Jesus prayed for you. Today we learn a few key things. It's not over but it's done.

You can pray and believe that even before it's over it's done. Two, you can see that Jesus prayed for you. And prayer then cannot be a lack of confidence in the answer because we know he had confidence in the ability of God to keep and to align.

So then what would be the purpose of this prayer other than that it might be recorded so you can see how to pray, how to believe, and the fact that there's prayers greater than yours that are sustaining you. But also you see in this prayer the alignment of God with purpose. One thing I noted as I studied prayer in writing the book, It's Too Quiet, is that prayer is where my mouth goes to find the will of God and to align with the will of God.

It cannot be just about discovering new information or informing God. That doesn't make sense. God already knows X, Y, Z. He lets us tell him, he lets us pour out, but it's definitely not for information purposes.

But what prayer does, when prayer is successful, prayer causes us to align with God or our prayers align with God and his will. This prayer is so purposeful in that it is all about alignment. It's about the alignment of Christ, how he has followed God from the beginning and set the pattern that we are to follow that would come after him and praying that we align as well.

But knowing that he has done what he needed to do to make sure we can follow Jesus. Did you know that Jesus really has done enough that no matter where you are in life, no matter what you're going through, he demonstrated to us in prayer, in his walk, in how he served, in how he yielded and how he died, that you can follow God too. Like he had said to them in John 16, Behold, the hour come, yea, has now come that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone.

And yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me. These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation, but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.

He tells them that he has overcome the world in chapter 16, not to brag, not to say, I did it, now y'all got to do your part. No, he was creating a guide map for us to follow, a road map for us to follow. Think of it, right now in Indianapolis where I am, there's a ton of snow.

And in the snow, you can see every footprint. You know where someone has walked. In fact, when the snow is a certain height, you try to stay in those footprints because it can come up past your boots or get into your shoes and your feet will get wet and cold and X, Y, Z. So it's easier to walk in the steps that I've already been walked in because the hard part has been done, stepping through the deep.

Jesus already walked through the hard parts of life for us. And he's telling them in 1633, before he starts chapter 17, I have overcome the world. Because when he prays for you and when he says, Father, I'm praying for the ones that you gave me.

I'm praying because they're in the world. And I come to thee and these things, I speak in the world that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves. I have given thy word and the world hath hated them because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. When he was praying for you, it was because he knew he'd already walked the steps. And if you just follow his footprints, you don't have to lead yourself, follow in his steps.

Because when we follow him, one, not only is the path plain, but the path is cleared. Even if it's hard, it's cleared. His purpose being fulfilled made the way for our purpose to be fulfilled.

And the way he prayed for us was with such love. It sounds like a father. It sounds like one who loves you.

It sounds like somebody who's thinking about you, anticipating the hard times, but knowing that I've given them enough to get through it. You are loved, you are prayed for, and you can make it. Why? Because Jesus prayed and prayer reaches every single situation.
