Two men and a Bible. Thomas and Daniel discuss church camp, VBS, missing dogs, church sports leagues, and standing for Jesus when the world wants you to sit.

SPEAKER_02

We're joined again today by my friend Thomas, and we jump right into the middle of a conversation that we had when my dog got lost, and I had to run home in the middle of vacation Bible school to do a search for him and be back in time for closing ceremony. It has been an eventful and fun summer so far at the Wheelbanks household, and I'm excited to have my friend Thomas with us as we discuss life and what's been going on. This is part of our bi-weekly series of currently two men in a Bible, but when EJ gets back from Centrifuge, we might shift over to three men in a Bible. My name is Daniel, and for the longest time I thought that I was the most ordinary dad possible, but this is my journey to see the extra in my ordinary life. Me and Amanda were talking about though, like how loving Becker County is. Because we posted the thing about her dog missing, and by the time, like two hours later, there were 59 shares. And my cousins were like, We're driving around the neighborhood because Blake and Jessica were riding. My Aunt Judy, I called her and she was stopping people. She's like, Have you seen a doodle? Have you seen a doodle? I mean, you got kids on the side. Can I pet that dog? Can't pet that dog. Well, that's what somebody messaged on there. They're like, a lady by the white fence was trying to coax him to her. I was like, why did she keep him?

SPEAKER_01

Paid $60 for dog food. I had to pay $30 to get this dog back and almost died. And almost died. Two different scammers, the same dog. That's wild. I still don't care about the buttons. I'm like, did you know people scam people on Facebook now for missing dogs?

SPEAKER_02

Well, she was like, my neighbor, three doors down, has a dog, but we don't want to get involved. Husband paid $60 for dog food. If you give us $30 up back, we'll tell you their address.

SPEAKER_01

I'd have gone down three doors down each way and be like, you know somebody down that paid $60 for this dog food?

SPEAKER_02

And it's probably the same guy. Both scams.

SPEAKER_01

Both scams. He's like, you know what? This time we're gonna do it right. I didn't get the $30 from him. I'm gonna take the $30 from him. I'm gonna take it. That's wild, man. And I will raise his kids.

SPEAKER_00

He would call me daddy. And they ain't got a dog. My name's not really Ashley.

SPEAKER_02

Over a dog.

SPEAKER_01

Thank God for Pat.

SPEAKER_02

And before I got married, I told Amanda I will never pay for a dog.

SPEAKER_01

And then I paid for three dogs. You know, you know how it goes. Like you and your wife, like you tell yourself, I'm not doing something. Like, so we coached Lincoln, right? Baseball and stuff. And then it's time for Silas and Annabeth to play. And she was like, All right, you're coaching, blah blah. So I'm absolutely not coaching again. I'm not doing it. And she was like, Wow, here's my Fox 40. Yeah, and I was like, I'm not doing this, blah blah blah. And she's like, You coached Lincoln. I was like, Well, I like them more, right? And stuff. And I was like, I refuse to do it. So I'm down there signing up as a coach and everything.

SPEAKER_02

Cause Yeah, Amanda just told me that with soccer the year I quit driving. She was like, Oh, by the way, uh, it was free for Bear to play if you're the coach, so you're coaching.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. I'm like, all right, EJ, you're my assistant. Can't do it, man. I can't do it. That's like he's so I'm so happy like when Lincoln got old enough. And I think it was a mutual thing. He didn't want me to coach him anymore, anyway. And then I didn't want to coach to begin with. So I got to just be the fence dad that just sits there and watches him let somebody else yell at him.

SPEAKER_00

Looks all disappointed, and you're like, we're gonna sell that later, son. Yeah, what are you doing with that $400 battery? Might as well just take a broomstick out here.

SPEAKER_01

And I'll tell you the funny one. Uh, so he lost and he struck out looking, right? That's the thing that aggravates me. That's the thing we could go down swinging. He strikes out looking, and we get back to church, and he's walking around and he's talking about if I've seen like a weird van pull up or whatever, and I'm outside taking cuts on a T, I'll just hit him with my bat. I'm like, No, you won, you don't swing the bat. And boy, talk about being mad. I say, I say that's a good one, dog. Like a little boy, like, ooh, temper tangent, where they're like, Because him and Avery were there. I think Avery's struck out looking too. So I was like, two for one, dog. Neither one of y'all gonna hit those those muscles start tensing up, and they'll get to the couple. I'll show you that.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, get out there and hit a ball.

SPEAKER_02

Oh man, God is good all the time, and that's the intro to the podcast now. Oh, so what's been going on?

SPEAKER_01

Uh two weeks, nothing, but I do have a question for you.

SPEAKER_02

What you got?

SPEAKER_01

Okay, so y'all went to Fuge.

SPEAKER_02

That is right.

SPEAKER_01

People got saved. Four of them gave their life to Jesus. I want you to tell me about that.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, dude. Oh, Fuge is like my favorite thing in the entire world, but anyways, because that's where I felt called to preach. That was like the place I felt called. So going to Fuge every year is it holds a special place in your heart. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. It's and it's cool seeing the kids, especially because it for a lot of those kids, it's their first time away from mom and dad. It's their first time being like that little bit of independence and being a big kid. Like, even though they're rooming with us, yeah. Like they still we wake up in the morning, I get them up, and they get going on their day, and I just check in with them throughout the day. Like, hey, are you where you're supposed to be? What are you doing?

SPEAKER_01

Where are you at? And it's and it's an extended period away from them too. And it's not like you're down the road, you know what I'm saying? It's not like they're staying at night with Yahya or Pappy and stuff like that. It's literally driving.

SPEAKER_02

Well, when there's like a coffee shop there and there's a restaurant with a nibble nook, but we get up at 6 45 in the morning. Yeah. Our breakfast is served at 6 45. So, like I the boys they'd be like, Wake me up at 5:30 and we're gonna get out and we're gonna watch the sunrise. No, and my alarm will go off at 5:30 and look at them, and they just start shaking their head and no, they're like, No, no, I'm not getting up. And I was like, All right, I'll see you again at six, boys. But we get up and they go and that's eat breakfast, you go to worship. Worship, you go, and you make it with your Bible study group. It's like Jesus all day long, even when you're playing games, like the base of it is Jesus, like you're learning about Jesus, you're talking about Jesus, everything you're doing.

SPEAKER_01

And I think that's so great because like you you get away from distractions, you know, we're all on one accord and everything, and that's what it should be. And so four people got saved.

SPEAKER_02

Yep, because in middle school, just in middle school, yep, because we took 30 middle school kids, high school total, they had like 85 people there, so I can't remember how many kids that was. They had two buses, we had one. They had five high school kids give their lives to the Lord. See, that's and then kids rededicated to baptism and everything. Yep, so well, they got baptized when we got back, summer celebration.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, the Wednesday, yeah. And what if and man, that was amazing to see too being able to watch the the line, right? And I think that was the thing is like seeing the line of kids getting up, walking up there, standing in line and waiting, and knowing, like, hey, this is about I'm about to dedicate my life and stuff.

SPEAKER_02

Well, and the one girl gave her life to God, like on the spot, right there, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, on the spot, and and that's the thing, man. But that's the thing even about few just like you have kids getting saved, you have kids rededicating their lives. Grown-ups too.

SPEAKER_02

I'm sure there was grown-ups that yeah, there was one of my friends from school that we went to church here when we were kids, she rededicated her life.

SPEAKER_01

See, and that's amazing. Because like I feel like a lot of times you could get stagnant in your walk with God. And I always try to tell like Lincoln and stuff, it's like, dude, don't get complacent where you're in your prayers, don't get complacent in your talks with them and stuff. It shouldn't be the same thing every time. And you know, getting stagnant in your walk with God, being able to have something like that, to be around other people. You know, we tell the people on the bridge a lot of times about being leaders, you know what I'm saying? Like, you gotta stand up, be unashamed, take that step out, show people that look, this is nothing to be ashamed of, I can do it, right? And then people see if they could do it, I can do it, right? And that's what I think Fisher of Men is you know talking about is like you gotta lead by example, you know what I'm saying? You gotta show Christ through you first. And then when people see the Christ through you, they're like, wow, you know, I want that too. And honestly, you want to want to make not trying to make it because I know jealousy is a bad thing, but you want to make people jealous of your walk with God where they want it. Uh might sound like it's coming off bad. I'm not meaning it in a wrong way, but you have it and somebody is wanting it, and that thing would be a great testimony to your walk is like, man, well, that guy has peace.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, what's different about that guy than me? Like, how do I get that?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, he's he's got peace in the middle of a battle. I'm stressing waking up, and but be able to go to a few to a place, and plus a beautiful place like Black Mountain.

SPEAKER_02

I mean there were 800 kids there, so like with adults and everything, you hit like a thousand people.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and no, I just wanted you to, you know, talk a little bit about it because I think that just the pictures and the videos of the worship and everything, but you know, and the worship and the pastor were like throwback, like it was it was geared towards middle school kids, like some of the high school kids were like, We're doing like 90s music.

SPEAKER_02

What is this? And then I talked to the worship later one day, he's like, they forget, like they're 12-year-olds here too. Yeah, and they keep like our kids, the bridge kids were like, Yeah, and they're like into it and everything. They absolutely loved it. It was it really was like a throwback to when like I was in.

SPEAKER_01

You know, but them worship songs back then.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, oh dude, they're I asked one of the high school kids, I was like, What do you want? Like a seven-minute worship song? Is that what you're looking for? And they're like, Yeah, why are they all so short? They're like three minutes. I'm like, it's a song. It takes a second to give you a lot of the goddess. It's a song. Like songs used to not be seven minutes with a six and a half minute interlude.

SPEAKER_01

Uh and then, but here's the thing them three-minute songs, they could turn into seven minutes. That's what they got to understand. That's like when I first played uh I Can Only Imagine here, right? I'm sitting there looking out, and these kids are just like staring. What song is this? And I look back, all the adults are like, Yeah, this is my jam.

SPEAKER_02

This is it. They it felt so much like a throwback. I was like, This is 2000s, like late 90s, 2000s youth group. I know we talked about it.

SPEAKER_01

I know we talked about it before, but it's like when you used to fall asleep and you'd wake up and it'd be like top 10 Christian hits on two CDs for 1999 and like be going through the things, you wake up and it's like, I can only imagine.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it's either that or you wake up to in the arms of the angels, save this dog's life.

SPEAKER_02

$4.99 a month.

SPEAKER_01

No, but I I think I'm excited. I'm hoping next year that we're able to go to the Fuge too, because being able to just hear about it, you know what I mean? Hearing about it is amazing, but being able to witness it too, I think, is a oh yeah, totally different ball game.

SPEAKER_02

It's the coolest. And like I had that was my room, I had four boys in it. And then there's another room right beside us that had three boys, and that was the only room we had, we didn't have enough chaperones until Adam and Shana got there. So there's one morning I was over there waking those boys up, and one of the boys comes up to me and they're like, Hey, and I'm not gonna say his name. They're like, dude just got sick. He was trying to get off the top bunk, he didn't make it. They're like, What do we do? And I was like, uh, what are you talking about? There was a huge bug that went around and it hit my room. And this dude, oh yeah, dude was trying to get off the top bunk, and he just like leaned over and hit the middle of the floor, and it was just like I threw my water bottle away because it was in a splash zone. Not the day done. Like I had a standing, I was like, Nope, not getting that. Not the day. Like we didn't have any cleaning supplies. Pat ran a Walmart, and by the time he got back, like we were just like, we're just going to breakfast, we'll come back and get this, which is never a good idea. But hey, we're gonna come back and clean this puke up after we go eat the buffet let's go to that all you can eat buffet. And I came back in, like we called, and they're like, Well, I mean, when the cleaning ladies get here, we'll have somebody come down and get it. No, and we got back in the room and the cleaning ladies already got it. I was like, Praise God, yeah, praise God. And then a kid in Pat's room got sick, and he was in bed for 26 hours. Like he was all day. He was going, and we thought it was just those two, and then last night, like we're leaving the next morning at 5 30. We gotta be up. Another kid in my room, I'm asleep, and I remember it was 2.18. I heard, I don't know what happened. I was asleep, and it just came out of my mouth. And I looked and I said, Oh no. And he had just like rolled over and went blah.

SPEAKER_01

That's bad. That's bad. Right in the floor. So when does EJ come back?

SPEAKER_02

EJ's got this starts session three of Huge was their first one today, and there's eight altogether, so he's got five, six more weeks, including this one.

SPEAKER_01

He's in Texas, right?

SPEAKER_02

Yep, Fort Worth, Dallas, Fort Worth, that camp. That's my that's my dude.

SPEAKER_01

And so he's gonna be doing that. Then he comes back after the third session.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, and he's probably gonna be taking a nap.

SPEAKER_01

You think so?

SPEAKER_02

He's gonna be exhausted. Yeah, he's gonna be so exhausted. Oh man, that's a volleyball text for anybody. No one is also volleyball season. This has been a busy season at the church. Oh, speaking of volleyball, speaking of volleyball, our special guest, uh Daddy Dominator over here.

SPEAKER_01

Bro, listen, I woke up next day, it was pretty bad. The second day after, my body was shutting down. Carrie Beth's like, I got bruises on my arm. And for everybody listening, listen, this is I am not a volleyball player.

SPEAKER_02

But this is adult advanced leisure. Okay, it's intense.

SPEAKER_01

All right. So it wasn't like I'm dominating my 11-year-old out here, but man, it was. I'm telling you, Jim Bob, Pastor Jim Bob reminds me of them, uh probably I told you, but them old guys at golf, right? That like they have a slow backswing and it's unorthodox, and you're like, no, and they hit the ball and it goes far and it goes straight and it just puts he puts it exactly where he wants it. I'm over here dying, okay, first off, and then diving on top of it. And I'm diving, I'm not doing anything, and I'm just watching Pastor Jim Bob, and he's just so effortly just tapping into the other guy, tapping into the girl, and I'm over here just drowning in the yeah, it's intense though, and you get out there and you're competitive at all, yeah, then it it fires that competitive.

SPEAKER_02

Like, there's something about it. I don't know what it is. Like, I could be playing against a bunch of like 10-year-olds, and I'd be like, Oh, you're not winning.

SPEAKER_00

I'm turned.

SPEAKER_02

We're we're going, you're going down. And like when as soon as Pat, because Pat his work schedule going where he's getting up at like three o'clock in the morning, yeah. When he told me he couldn't do it, I was like, Well, I will find somebody and I saw Tyler.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I was like, I was like, hey, you you can dunk, right? Yeah, unfair.

SPEAKER_02

He's like, Yeah, I can dunk. I can like dunk sand, and I don't like to do it that much. I said, Okay, that'll translate. You're on the volleyball team. He's like, I didn't play volleyball before. I said, You'll be all right.

SPEAKER_01

And just to sum up, Tio, what is he, 23?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, of that. He's probably like 20. I think EJ's 20. He'd probably all the same age.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, so 20, a 20-year-old, six-foot, tall, athletic beast. It looks like he could do anything in the world.

SPEAKER_02

He jumps in the air and has time to think about what he's doing. I jump in the air and have time to be like, ooh.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, he's literally floating. I'm falling, he's floating, right? But I will say to you if you're listening, remember that one time we went up, hands got on the side of the bars, and I won that battle. I prayed so hard, and then I was going up. I just put all my weight into it. I was just like, if I touch an air.

SPEAKER_02

Whatever happens, happens. But then he turned around and got me back. So I was the youngest person on our team for the past couple years, and I'll be 38 in a couple weeks. And then watching somebody T.O.'s age play. Yeah, is it because I was diving before, and as soon as he got on there, I was like, Nope, I'm done. You can dive. I was like, You got that. Yeah, he just he just jumps in the air or he turns around backwards and hits it backwards. Yeah. And I'm just like, yeah. He just pulled 360 one time. I barely have time to like react. And I he'll do stuff, and I'm like, oh, he missed that. And then I'll know where his hands just like my dive. I wasn't even diving, I was tripping most of the time. I just made it seem like I was dying. He just hit the ground and go, It sounds like he tried. Yeah. Like sometimes if I'm not even near the ball and I'm swinging, I'm just like, huh. And somebody's like, oh, he's trying. This is kind of like good try, man. Good try.

SPEAKER_00

It's like it's like playing tennis. Or start rubbing something, like, oh yeah. Overextended on that one. Looking at my other teammates, I'm like, I'm doing everything I can. I'm putting my body on the line.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I got up two days later, man, and I was I felt it in places that I forgot it was even a muscle. It ain't even a muscle for me anymore. It's just there. It's my favorite time of year though. Oh, it's fun though. Like, I mean, and I didn't think I was gonna be that competitive because even on the way out here, because Lincoln's already played like two or three games, and he came home and they lost. They were playing high schoolers, but he came home and he was like upset. And I'm like, what, dude? It's just volleyball. I'm like, it's volleyball, bro. It's church volleyball. Have fun.

SPEAKER_00

He's like, no, it's just aggravating to lose. We were stuck at 12 forever, blah, blah, blah.

SPEAKER_01

And I'm like, it's volleyball, right? Then we had our first game, and I got out there, and I'm like, what's going on?

SPEAKER_02

The worst is like when you're an athlete, which and not everybody who signs up is an athlete. Yeah. Which is why I'm like, I'm on Jim Bob's team or nobody's team. Because they're all competitive like that. Yeah. Like everybody, the women are competitive, the men are competitive. Like everybody's just like, no. And you can see everybody beating themselves up. Like if they screw up, or even if they don't, like they blame themselves. And like, that's my teammates.

SPEAKER_01

Well, next year, yeah, I'm gonna be on Jim Bob's team. Yeah, I don't care if I sit the bench.

SPEAKER_02

Well, we had we had a couple sacked teams that uh I hadn't played Laura and their team yet. Yeah. But whenever their competitive team didn't play, Laura and Tammy played competitive last year. So like the spike with the young kids and everything. I was like, uh, I can make you a really fun team. With and then they got the Sanderson didn't have a team. So we had some of their kids come over, like old kids are like 20. So she got girls that played volleyball in high school. Yeah. And then those two, and I was like, dang man. If we'd known we were gonna have to pull an audible on our team, we would have gone ahead and pulled those two to us.

SPEAKER_01

Well, and that's the thing, is like, you know, we only had like four people show up on our team, you know, our team wasn't complete. You know, I feel like we're gonna turn it on and uh all that matters is the tournament.

SPEAKER_02

All that matters.

SPEAKER_01

Exactly.

SPEAKER_02

Lucy is really competitive. I found that out.

SPEAKER_01

And she was like, if anything messes up, like her face, she's like, oh, I found that out because our side was so like if we had errors like baseball does, oh I got like seven errors, you know, everybody on team is at least four up, and then Lucy's over there, just like there's one time they hit it to her, and I'm like, I got it, I got it. It landed between us, and like she just turned around and she just stared at me. I was like, I thought I had it.

SPEAKER_02

She played, she played the first game with us, and I thought because she's 14, and like she's kind of intimidated of Jim Bob and Tracy a little bit. Right. Because I mean, they're been her pastors for forever. Yeah, yeah. I thought she would be all timid and quiet, and she's like, front, back, your ball. It's tracy, get that. That's her Jim Bob, get that. She's like just calling whose it is, and I'm like, dang, I made that.

SPEAKER_01

That's my kid. That's my kid yelling at the pastor.

SPEAKER_02

She won't get mad at anybody, but then like our she won't verbally get mad at anybody except for me.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, well, and and like I said, I think it's unfair too, because you know how highly favored Jim Bob is when God there's a lot of times that I feel like the ball was going one place. God's no respecter of persons, but I'm just thinking Jim Bob got a special place, you know what I mean? Like, exactly.

SPEAKER_02

They got a special place.

SPEAKER_01

Brother Pat and Miss Kathy. It's like if we play against him, I guarantee we'll probably lose it.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, Peter's gonna take a break when Miss Kathy gets to help.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, 100%.

SPEAKER_02

She's she's gonna give me the board, I got this. Yeah, and then they're gonna have to come back and take it. You're letting everybody in, Kathy.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, what do you do if she's gonna go to Peter and be like, you know, you lost in a race to John? Go sit down, take a break. I'll be I'll be checking people in it. I got it right now. But yeah, dude, uh, I feel like yeah, Miss Miss Kathy's definitely got a special place, and I think it's going to be very, very close to the front. Very close.

SPEAKER_02

Fire by the Sons of Thunder. Yeah, exactly. They call you Thunder. I'm lightning.

SPEAKER_01

That's the gonna walk by Mary Magdalene and be like, I'm here now. Scoot new. It's funny, man. No, it was it was a fun time.

SPEAKER_02

We used to do church softball. We'd start and it would lead all the way up to volleyball. Like the first weeks overlapped, so you go straight from softball to volleyball.

SPEAKER_01

We need to get back in that.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, dude, it's rough.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, I know it's rough. We used to do it with it. Like I said, my papa's church. We signed up one day. And and the reason it's rough is because a lot of people sign up that are not a church.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, yeah. I knew it was softball season when guys would show up like to Sunday service with their dip cup under their arm.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

And they're like, all right, we're gonna be here for about two months.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and and see what you can do, Pastor. Because I remember we going out there and the first year we played softball with the church. Um, a bunch of my friends that I went to high school are playing, and I'm like, hold up. We're gonna do. And then uh we can keep the cussing at a minimum guys with, or at least can you not bring your beer into the keeping the truck, guys? Because I was sitting, I was like, this seems like regular softball season. Yeah, I don't I'm not understanding what's going on.

SPEAKER_02

We just all have church search.

SPEAKER_01

But I feel like I honestly feel like our church is big enough that we could get a few teams, or even if we get with surrounding churches that are like legitimately, you know, because like the other thing is like, you know, it used to be huge, it was, yeah, but like you know, you want your kids to play and stuff too, but you don't want them to be like that's the whole reason having a church league is so you could go out there and you know you could pray, but you could like have fun and keeping the right attitude with exactly if we could monitor that.

SPEAKER_02

I think that's something that early 2000s we didn't do good. Yeah, is we were just like, Yeah, yeah, it's cool, just we just want you here. Yeah, like we do want you here, but also probably shouldn't be wearing all the church shirts and drinking a beer and yeah, throwing some cuss words around, yeah. You're not getting arguments in the same. If somebody's almost getting in a fight every day at the game, you're like, maybe we should reconsider some of the rules.

SPEAKER_01

And it kind of leads me into something because like I was praying on this, and you know, I was talking to God about it and stuff, and it's like I feel like the churches these days has like shut up completely, like when it comes to like saying what you know, what is good and what is bad and stuff like that. And that kind of it goes into it about like even then, it's like, hey, maybe we should have spoken up and be like, hey, this ain't representing what we're doing this for. If you can't do it, then there's no reason for y'all to be here, and if we got to forfeit the game just because of it, that's fine, you know. And I'm not saying it to be like them people that's like uh you're gonna do it my way or you're not gonna do it at all. It's not.

SPEAKER_02

That but it's like, hey, you know, we love the Lord our God, but everything we are, and this team is about Jesus, right?

SPEAKER_01

And we don't want to affiliate ourselves because say it was somebody that was trying to get in church and they're on not our team, but even the other team or something, and these people are doing it, and they're under a certain church's name, and they're like, Well, this is not what I thought church people would be doing, you know, instead of like how with the volleyball, it's like we pray before it, we pray after it, good attitudes everywhere, unless TO, you know, 360, you know, scopes me and gets the ball where I'm not, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Then I'm coming out of the net.

SPEAKER_01

Exactly. But uh, you kind of one of them things of like I feel like Christians need to go back to and not like I said, nowhere near telling people it's this way or no way, but like, hey, I'm not gonna be affiliated with that. And it's like one of the big things right now, and this is why I bring it up, is like we're in Pride Month right now, right? And I feel like I'm I'm seeing all these algorithm things come across my phone of these churches floating around the rainbow flag with pride all over it and stuff. So I started talking to God about it, and it's like focus on that word, right? Focus on that word pride. The pride is what gets in your way a lot of times. It ain't nothing to do. Why do you think they took the promise and turned it into a prideful thing, you know? And to me, it's Satan saying, you know, you need to lead with pride and not with the word, right? And what the word says, because the people that are doing these false, false preaching and stuff that's telling people God loves you, and blah blah blah. It's like, yeah, we know that Jesus loves us with all his heart, but he hates the sin that's in us and everything. So, but you're leading people astray, and you're literally sending them to hell because you want your church to be a certain way. And there is so much in the Bible where Paul writes about churches being a certain way and having these false ideas of well, he forgives you of your sin, so you could be this and be this and be who you are. It's like, no, no, no. He made Adam and Eve for a reason. There's a reason that the reproductive system works a certain way. You can't change it, there's nothing you can do, and it's just that word pride, man. And it's like a lot of people's pride gets in their way and it blocks their walk with God.

SPEAKER_02

It's when we start taking the word and using it to justify our lifestyles instead of cleansing our life. Right. Because the Bible's supposed to be a mirror and we're supposed to use it to cleanse our life to look more like Jesus. We look at the word of God, we look at the law, and we say, Oh man, I desperately need God because of this, this, and this. And then God leads us to fix those things in our lives. But it's somebody asked me one time if we if we had an affirming church, like if our church would affirm their lifestyle, and I was like, No, our church doesn't affirm my lifestyle. Exactly. Like, that's not the purpose of the church. Like, no, it no one should feel like their lifestyle was affirmed in church. Like, you should feel like I got some work to do, and God's giving me a guidebook on how to do it. We're gonna work on this.

SPEAKER_01

You should come into church, and when the pastor's speaking about something, don't get angry about it, but be like, be unsettled about it because he's talking about me.

SPEAKER_02

Like every service, I'm always like, somebody snitched on me, dog. There'll be something that I don't I won't I'll disagree with one thing theologically, and and not necessarily like our pastors, but I'm saying like I'll hear somebody like on the podcast show, and I'll be like, I don't really agree with that. Yeah, but then there'll be 15 other things. I'm like, man, I need to work on that. But if I get hung up on the one thing I don't like, like I can stay there all day. 100%.

SPEAKER_01

Well, that's why there's so much scripture about being offended, right? And we can't take offense to stuff. And the only thing I feel like, and I tell Lincoln this, I was like, the only thing you should take offense to is when somebody is degrading Jesus Christ. I was like, that's when you need to stand up and be like, because I told him I said, There's something I promise you you'll never get in trouble for me. Praying in school, talking about Jesus in school. If somebody from the school calls me and tells me, hey, he was praying for somebody, I'm like, I'll be praying for you too, because I'm headed down there. Yeah, I'll be like, You're gonna need Jesus by the time I get there. But let's start praying about it. Because I feel like if we take offense to every little thing in the world, look at the world right now. That's why we're in the situation that we're is because everybody's offended by everything. You know what I'm saying? Like nothing, and look, my dad told me this when I was young, and it stuck with me. Facts do not care about your feelings. Okay, the fact is that we have a word in front of us that told us exactly what happened. You know what I'm saying? It's 66 different books, three different continents, three different languages, you know, numerous authors between 4,000 years and stuff, they wrote this and it all lines up.

SPEAKER_02

Have you seen the diagram of like all the lines? Oh, dude. Of how the Old Testament and New Testament connect, and you start looking at it, it's just like everything that like it's every cross-reference.

SPEAKER_01

It's an amazing oh, it is, and like that's impossible. There's no way I like the way that the graph is shown too because it made a rainbow. Oh, yeah. It's like everything was a different color, and when it's going back and forth, it just like you see this huge like thing. And but but like the offense thing, it's like we're so offended by everything. And if we say in the word, we read about offense for one, but we read about everything that Jace Robertson said it best, right? I can I can I can explain the Bible to you very, very easy. Old Testament, guess what? Jesus is coming. Matthew to John, he's here. From Acts to Revelation, he's coming back. Read the Bible like that, right? And when we read the Bible and we read about all this stuff that's happening in the world that is coming true right now, that's a fact. You know what I'm saying? There's reason that scholars or that uh archaeologists use the Bible. There's reasons that they have found kings that they were like, did they exist? They're in the Bible. They go to it and they find out they did, or they find these places, like they found the uh Tel Del Stan, right? Tell Del Stelle. I don't know if I told you about it. Found Tel Del Stelle. So there has been no really proven thing of the house of David, right? So uh 1950s, I think, maybe 60s, they find a Tedel Stan. They're sitting there uh looking at the word and they found out it literally transcribes to the house of David, and it's like, well, there's that. Got it. The Death Sea Scrolls predates what we thought was the earliest things, and it's verbatim.

SPEAKER_02

Have you ever read Case for Christ? Or listen to it? Least trouble. They made a movie, movie's good. Start with the movie, but the book The Case for Christ. Yeah, I did the audio book, yeah. One of the best ever. And I gave EJ one of my books whenever I first met EJ. And like I never thought I was gonna do ministry again, so I was just like giving away all my books to the kids and everything. And I gave him a historical evidence of Jesus Christ, like a huge thick book. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. There's also a we gotta start wrapping it up too because I've okay. If you don't guys don't know, we had Centerfuge. Then I found out Centerfuge, I was preaching the summer celebration, which was the week after that, and now this week is vacation Bible school, which we have 230 to 250 volunteers and like 350 kids-ish, probably 400 by the end of the week. So it's our biggest outreach that we do all year, and probably like we were talking about it's arguably the biggest recruitment of new families into the church, new people into the church. Not one. And I gotta be over there in like two minutes because uh I'm the on-stage guy and we have to get here early to practice because we're like biblical marines. Yeah, if you're we're the first in, last out.

SPEAKER_01

If you didn't know, you're listening to Dr. Captain Dan Butterfly Extraordinaire over here.

SPEAKER_02

And for the next year, I'll have to explain to parents in the grocery store that I'm not actually a doctor or a captain. Or a butterfly extraordinaire. When their kid runs up and is like, that's Captain Dan.

SPEAKER_01

And not just not just a certain butterfly, a butterfly that has sharp teeth and will attack you.

SPEAKER_02

Oh bro, I got frozen cheeseburgers in the car that I needed to put in the microwave to heat up. Let's wrap it up. And they are heating themselves up in the warm car.

SPEAKER_01

Let's wrap it up.

SPEAKER_02

It's gonna be great when I bite into that. Go on, pray for us, Thomas.

SPEAKER_01

Hey dear Heavenly Father, I thank you so much for this day, God. I ask that tonight at VBS, I ask that kids give their life to Jesus, God. I ask that they bring a friend with them, God, because the most important thing in this world is going to heaven. But the second most important is bringing somebody with us, God. So I ask that this podcast be able to reach somebody, God. And uh as me and Dr. Captain Dan Butterfly Short and Air, Pastor Daniel, go into this uh podcast journey. I ask that it reaches people's ears, God. If we did this podcast for 20 years and we saved one soul, God, it was all worth it, Father. I ask that you be with these kids tonight, be with the protection, God. Let them have an understanding of who you are, but let them have fun, God. Let uh Pastor Daniel be able to go on stage and just have a time of his life and be able to let his light shine, Father. Let Christ come through him, God. I thank you so much. I ask protection on this world. We love you. We thank you. In Jesus' name we say, Amen.

SPEAKER_02

Amen. And before I close, last thing, because I just thought about me, we were talking about centrifuge. The camp director didn't look like, but reminded me a lot of Ned Flanders from The Simpsons when he would preach, like highly hoe, neighbor. Did he sound like him? Um, he's the only person I've ever heard preach and say, Well heck, Lord. In the middle of the, you know, he was praying, he's like, Well heck, Lord, in the middle of a prayer. And I was like, that was fantastic. He gets it. I was like, this guy right here is on point. Hey guys, I love you, God loves you, you should love you. And we will see you next time.
