The Power of Reiki Precepts for Daily Living

Kelly Season 3 Episode 3

Send us a text

Hello beautiful souls!! Diving deep into the ancient healing wisdom of Reiki, this episode explores how the five Reiki precepts offer powerful guidelines for navigating our chaotic modern world with grace and intention. As a Reiki master who found profound personal healing through these practices, I share how these simple yet transformative principles can revolutionize your approach to daily challenges.

The phrase "Just for today" forms the foundation of each precept, anchoring us firmly in the present moment – the only time we truly have. Through exploring each guideline – not worrying, not being angry, practicing gratitude, working honestly, and showing kindness to all living things – we discover practical tools for shifting our perspective and energy. These aren't just spiritual concepts but actionable approaches for processing difficult emotions, finding beauty in challenges, and creating positive ripples that extend far beyond ourselves.

Perhaps most compelling is the idea that practicing kindness has become a revolutionary act in our increasingly divided world. By choosing compassion regardless of differences, we become "loving rebels" who transform both our inner landscape and the communities around us. Whether you're familiar with Reiki or completely new to energy work, these precepts offer universal wisdom for anyone seeking greater balance, authenticity, and peace. Join me in exploring how these simple daily commitments can profoundly shift your relationship with yourself, others, and the world around you – just for today.

Speaker 1:

Today I want to talk about Reiki and the Reiki precepts. Reiki is, for those of you that don't know, is a hands-on healing technique. It's Japanese used to restore the balance and flow of life force, energy that runs through you and everything around you. Reiki is a beautiful, sacred healing practice and it has brought much transformation to my life. I discovered it a couple of years ago and I was going through a really bad time. I'd been through something really traumatic and Reiki brought me a great deal of healing on so many levels and I really just absolutely love it.

Speaker 1:

And there was a post by Christian Stone, who's been a podcast guest and he has a Reiki business collective where everybody can post and ask questions and support each other. It's a really beautiful community. So any of you guys looking for that, I'll definitely put a link in the pod notes so you can definitely find his community. And he has a podcast as well that talks all about Reiki and business. He had recently published a post about how we can fall back on the Reiki precepts.

Speaker 1:

In Reiki, when we are going through difficult times like to not forget that it's there to help us and assist us. Just just as we help and assist our clients, we, as the practitioner, can fall back on it and use it as well. And you know, for whatever reason I needed that message. I needed to see it and, you know, because I hadn't been doing my daily practice and you know I'm like I know better. But sometimes we all need that. We need somebody to kind of, you know, help us on the road and bring us back to where we need to be. And in this post he talks about the Reiki precepts, which are spiritual guidelines to help people maintain a good mindset, connect deeper with their higher self, the world around them.

Speaker 1:

Life is full of adversities, challenges, joys. It helps us to kind of focus on the present moment and let go of stress and negativity. It assists us with living in harmony, consciously, in a more balanced way. Each precept begins with a phrase just for today, emphasizing how we should be focusing on the present moment and because often right, there are things that will take us out on the present moment and because often right, there are things that will take us out of the present moment and the present moment is all that we have. So using these precepts in our day-to-day living I find to be really helpful. They are just for today, I will not worry. Just for today, I will not be angry. Just for today I will be grateful. Just for today I will do my work honestly. Just for today, I will be kind to every living thing Just for today. I will not worry. We're going to begin there.

Speaker 1:

And there's so many sayings out there, right, about worrying and how it doesn't solve tomorrow's problems. It only robs you of your joy and energy in the present moment. You know, remembering that all the things that trouble us sometimes those are not all weights that we're meant to carry. You know that we need to commit to the present moment and focus on what we can control and the things around us, and we have the power to direct that focus. So we want to definitely let go, try our best right to let go of our anxieties and fears about the future. Focus on what we have and what we can do.

Speaker 1:

What actions can we take in the present moment? What can we do right with? If we go back to our conversation between frodo and gandalf, what can we do with the time that we have? What can we do with it? Processing and releasing stress and anxiety? You know we can use reiki to promote our well-being, balancing of our energy. There's essential oils, breath work, yoga, sound healings, everyday activities like walking, being in nature, exercise of whatever you're capable of.

Speaker 1:

All of those things bring us to the present moment and I do believe it's like a connection with our creator and spirit. When we're deep in any sort of practice, we're in a zone we're connecting and those things all bring us up, raise our vibration, make us feel better and take us out of those worrying mindsets and bring us back to something different, bring us to a place where we can return to ourselves and then kind of regroup and choose and focus on present moment and how to move forward. We're trusting in our strength, the resources that we have within us that, no matter what comes our way, we're going to be able to handle it. Definitely, have compassion for yourself, because worrying is normal, all of these things that we go through in our human experience. They are so normal. So be kind to yourself. It's okay. If you worry I think everybody does Finding ways to shift it. Some people use oracle cards, some people use affirmations, we just and also that you can seek the support of a counselor, a therapist, a doctor, all of those things. You know there are so many things out there for us available to help us through difficult times. The next one, just for today.

Speaker 1:

I will not be angry. I find this to be sometimes a hard one because when, as we're growing and expanding. We don't want to react in anger and we don't want to stay in those states, but it's a normal human emotion. Like we need to accept that. Like we're going to have anger, it's okay. We're human, it's a natural.

Speaker 1:

I think what's important is just not holding on to that anger. You need to process it, like really kind of sit with it and work through it. Again, I am not a professional by any stretch. So if you're definitely seeking, definitely seek out outward help, find a counselor, find a, a spiritual guide, a clergyman or clergywoman or somebody that can help you kind of work through that sort of stuff, if you're really struggling, you need to feel that anger. You need to feel it and then release, process and then release and we just have to find ways to work through it and bring ourselves back.

Speaker 1:

It's not that this precept is saying never be angry or you're not going to be angry. It's just finding ways to process and then release. It's just not holding on to that anger and letting that direct and drive your actions, your thought processes. You want to find a way so that it's not consuming you and you know there's many ways to do that. Find things that make you laugh Again.

Speaker 1:

Going back to the things we just talked about, that help you kind of bring you back into the present moment and out of a worrying state going for walks in nature, talking to a friend or maybe having a difficult conversation, if that's what needs to be had. That way you're not holding something in, whatever the situation might be. It is really important to not let that sort of anything that we feel or anything in our bodies if we're holding on to that, that is affecting our overall health and well-being. So you just want to redirect that energy and we can use anger as a tool to figure out what's really going on. Is this an area of my life I need to heal? Is there something I need to forgive? Is there something within myself I need to work on? You know, do I need to set up a boundary? What can I do in my present life to hopefully lessen chances of those emotions coming forth? But again, we all know that life is life and living a human experience. We're going to have things that evoke that emotion out of us, going to have things that evoke that emotion out of us, and it's just finding ways positive ways to redirect, to process and move forward in our life. So be kind to yourself once again and just be kind and gentle with yourself, as we all are on this beautiful journey.

Speaker 1:

The next Reiki precept is about gratitude. Just for today, I will be grateful. It encourages focusing on the blessings that you have, practicing appreciating even the most challenging situations. The power of gratitude is just so vast and deep. It can transform a negative attitude, attract abundance. It changes the neural pathways in your brain. It's a reminder to appreciate positive aspects of life and finding gratitude in the smallest of things like a clean water, a warm cup of coffee, the budding of our trees, the fresh air that we breathe right Focusing on our blessings.

Speaker 1:

I do have a gratitude journal that I love. It's by Joanna Hunter and it's called Daily Light A Radiant Guide to Infusing your Life with Positivity and Purpose. It is actually one of the most beautiful gratitude journals that I've ever seen and there's daily prompts and just lots of really good, beautiful information. She also has a daily light deck where I pulled a card for us today and it's each day I get better and better, stronger and stronger, more courageous and confident. Definitely check all that stuff out, but we all have tools right, like there's so many tools out there for gratitude. You can listen to meditations, affirmations, there's podcasts on gratitude, there are books on gratitude. Whatever it is that works for you. Bring gratitude, make it a daily practice. Again, all these Reiki precepts are emphasized, bringing us into the present moment. So practicing gratitude as a daily thing, you know, thanking us for all of the things, for our life, our breath, our families.

Speaker 1:

For me, one of the things I'm most always grateful for is the ability to change and grow At any point in time. I have the ability to change how I look at something, how I want to improve my life. If there's something about it I don't like that, I have that control. I can change it. It may be hard, but that's okay. I can choose and I'm grateful for that every day. It's a wonderful part of your routine because, again, going back to where our focus goes, energy flows. So if we're looking at the positive aspects in our life, our energy is flowing into that gratitude mindset and once you start looking for all the beautiful things, you're going to continue to see beautiful things. You're going to continue to see the beauty even in the things that are the most difficult I can honestly say in my life.

Speaker 1:

The most difficult situations that I have been through have presented me with the opportunity for the most growth and expansion, and I am grateful for those situations and I am grateful for those situations. I am grateful for the people that were involved in those situations, even if it caused me hurt and pain, because I learned from it. We need the contrast, we need the adversity, we need the challenges, we need the range of emotions that we feel for that expansion, for that growth, and I wouldn't be who I am today, I wouldn't be here talking with you today, if it weren't for some of the people and the events that have happened in my life. I wish everyone healing, I wish everyone love, and that's just kind of where I'm at with being grateful for some of the difficult things I've been through, but it reminds us that there's always something to be grateful for. It can help us cope with challenges and know that there is so much beauty and magic that surrounds us. I love to just sit in my backyard and see the budding trees and the tulips starting to come out and the beautiful animals and hear the birds. It's just such a beautiful time of year. Right Spring is that renewal, that transformation, but that can happen within each and every one of us on an individual level as well. But just really appreciating the magic and beauty around you and that is going to be different for each individual right what we find beautiful and magical different songs, you know, that can just transport us to a time in our life and bring us joy. A funny show or even a period drama that you like, or a book series, right, like all of these things, help us as we move through difficult things. And having gratitude for all of those tools right that are now available to us, that we are learning about and we can use. You know, I'm so grateful for my journey, too, because I have so many things now in what we call our spiritual toolbox that I can fall back on. That I never had before because I didn't know about them. And you know, being through some different healing journeys, I was able to discover things that I now share with you, I now share with my family, but I have that anytime something happens. I'm not the same person I was before, so I know I have this toolbox and I can go back and sort of redirect myself and I'm grateful for that. So, again, gratitude, focusing on the beautiful things in our life, all the you know, the heart, the bad, the good, all the things, the joyful, right, all that range and then bringing us again, once again, back to the present moment. The next Reiki precept is going to be just for today. I will do my work honestly. Precept is going to be just for today. I will do my work honestly.

Speaker 1:

Integrity and honesty are incredibly important virtues for personal and professional growth. Committing to them, for you know, every day you know you're living your truth, you're honoring your authentic self. It encourages us to be responsible, accountable, sincere in all aspects of our life, really working on genuine connections with others, promoting self-respect, reminding us that honesty is foundational for spiritual growth and aligning with our higher purpose. We're going to be truthful in all of our actions and dealings, living and working in alignment with values and principles, approaching all of our tasks with dedication and effort. It encourages us to be mindful of the now, what we're doing now, avoiding unethical practices, shortcuts, to do things with our heart. But this extends also to our personal life being truthful in our relationships, living in alignment with our values in all of our activities, making conscious choices. So I love that. And again, be gentle with yourself in all aspects and just bringing that loving energy and the values that you have into every single thing that you do.

Speaker 1:

I have said this before and I'll say it again, that what we do and how we choose the energy we choose to bring into each day matters. It matters more than we realize, you know, and where our focus goes, energy flows, energy ripples out. It not only affects us, it affects our children, our spouses, our siblings, the people we encounter at the grocery store. It is a big ripple. Our neighbors, our friends, our colleagues, right, all of this is a ripple out effect and I am grateful for these reminders right in the precepts, and the final Reiki precept that I'm going to talk about today is just for today, I will be kind to every living thing, and more and more I'm starting to think that this is almost like a rebellious act. Right when, in a world where we are constantly being divided, where we are constantly being pushed towards taking a side or agreeing with this or that, I feel like it's a very rebellious act to be kind to every person, to every living thing, no matter what. It doesn't matter what their belief system is, what their background is, who they are, where they're from, any of those things we're living in these times.

Speaker 1:

And you know, kindness is just, it emphasizes compassion, understanding, not only for yourself but for others. You know, to live in gentleness and love, to living from the heart. Right Like coming back to the heart and trying every day to live in love, but also showing that love and self-compassion to ourselves, because we can often not do that right. I think if you wouldn't say it to your best friend, if you wouldn't do it to your best friend, you shouldn't do it to yourself. You know we needed to show that loving and kindness to others, but also to ourselves. We are often our own worst critic and way more critical of ourselves than we need to be. Kindness increases our happiness, it helps promote our mental health and it does that to others too. It transforms your perspective. There's all these movies, scientific studies that pay it forward. It's just a really beautiful thing.

Speaker 1:

I think more and more it's becoming a rebellious act and we can show kindness even if somebody's being negative or not treating us in that way. There's something to acknowledging that but saying you know what? I don't choose to respond in that way. I'm going to remain in kindness and in love even when it's hard and challenging. And, you know, go out there and be our rebels, right, where we're going to be kind and we're going to be loving, no matter what, even when it's hard. Right, this can sometimes be very challenging, right, because people are people and there's, you know, know there's lots of situations, you know there can be misunderstandings and all of the different things out there, and just, you know, bringing us back to the present moment and encouraging conscious, gentle, loving ways to live is, I think, really more important than anything. You know, it really does ripple out and I do believe that loving energy that we bring in is is so critical and so important, you know, like being the change that we want to see. Well, we must.

Speaker 1:

Oh my gosh, I have to share something with you Right now. I'm recording this and I'm seeing a. Oh my God, there is a cardinal couple on my back porch right now and I had asked for a sign from Spirit. My birthday is coming up, sign from spirit, my birthday is coming up. And I had said to my mom and my grandmas and my grandfathers are all passed on, and I had said yesterday, silently in my heart please send me a cardinal.

Speaker 1:

And when I asked for that sign. I mean, it can come in like an actual cardinal, which is what I'm seeing on my back porch right now as I record this, but it can come in other ways too. Right, and it's coming through as I'm recording this, putting this information out there, so it's just another validation for me in that way too. Oh, I just had to share that. It's the beauty and the magic of the world all around us, right All the time, and it's just there to support us. Well, thank you for being here today. I hope you enjoyed this episode about the Reiki precepts. Let's go out and be loving rebels out there in the world and definitely take time today to sit in prayer and ask for loving energy to be sent out to all who need it. Take care.
