So it was about"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":205.62,"endTime":213.66,"body":"a year ago, that they came out"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":205.62,"endTime":213.66,"body":"to us. And really, after kind of"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":213.66,"endTime":219.15,"body":"a journey of discovering who"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":213.66,"endTime":219.15,"body":"they work for themselves. So in"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":220.14,"endTime":223.56,"body":"I don't know how long they were"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":220.14,"endTime":223.56,"body":"on that journey and don't I"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":223.56,"endTime":227.52,"body":"mean, obviously, all their life"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":223.56,"endTime":227.52,"body":"but but as far as when they"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":227.52,"endTime":230.58,"body":"really started making that"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":227.52,"endTime":230.58,"body":"connection. I just know that"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":230.58,"endTime":237.66,"body":"when they first tried on that"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":230.58,"endTime":237.66,"body":"label, I guess the the non"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":237.66,"endTime":243.9,"body":"binary label, they said they"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":237.66,"endTime":243.9,"body":"weren't quite sure. If they're"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":243.9,"endTime":248.79,"body":"feeling like I just I don't want"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":243.9,"endTime":248.79,"body":"to be a woman was because it's"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":248.79,"endTime":253.23,"body":"just such a terrible thing to be"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":248.79,"endTime":253.23,"body":"a woman sometimes that you know,"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":253.23,"endTime":258.51,"body":"our society is so misogynist and"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":253.23,"endTime":258.51,"body":"sexist, and everything that that"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":258.51,"endTime":262.5,"body":"is that what they were feeling"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":258.51,"endTime":262.5,"body":"and they said that they really"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":262.5,"endTime":265.47,"body":"figured out figured it out when"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":262.5,"endTime":265.47,"body":"they asked themselves if I could"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":265.47,"endTime":270.09,"body":"just magically transport to any"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":265.47,"endTime":270.09,"body":"universe where sexism isn't a"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":270.09,"endTime":274.11,"body":"thing. You know, the patriarchy"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":270.09,"endTime":274.11,"body":"isn't a thing. But also"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":274.11,"endTime":278.1,"body":"transphobia is not a thing and"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":274.11,"endTime":278.1,"body":"and homophobia is not a thing."},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":279.27,"endTime":281.79,"body":"Because, you know, years before"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":279.27,"endTime":281.79,"body":"this, they had come out as"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":281.79,"endTime":286.29,"body":"bisexual and then later"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":281.79,"endTime":286.29,"body":"pansexual is what they figured"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":286.29,"endTime":290.67,"body":"out they were. They said, If I"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":286.29,"endTime":290.67,"body":"could exist in a world like"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":290.67,"endTime":294.72,"body":"that, what would I really want"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":290.67,"endTime":294.72,"body":"to exist as and the answer they"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":294.72,"endTime":299.19,"body":"came away with was neither male"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":294.72,"endTime":299.19,"body":"nor female. Neither man nor"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":299.19,"endTime":303.66,"body":"woman does as non binary, and"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":299.19,"endTime":303.66,"body":"that is what makes me happy. So"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":303.75,"endTime":307.95,"body":"they explain that to us. And"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":303.75,"endTime":307.95,"body":"we're happy for them that"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":307.95,"endTime":313.08,"body":"that's, that's their true self."},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":307.95,"endTime":313.08,"body":"And I'm so glad they're living"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":313.08,"endTime":317.13,"body":"their true self now because they"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":313.08,"endTime":317.13,"body":"went through some, some trauma,"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":317.13,"endTime":322.38,"body":"they went through a divorce last"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":317.13,"endTime":322.38,"body":"year. So some traumatic things"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":322.38,"endTime":329.37,"body":"around that. I think the hardest"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":322.38,"endTime":329.37,"body":"part of it for us was just"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":329.37,"endTime":332.97,"body":"retraining our brains to use the"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":329.37,"endTime":332.97,"body":"right pronouns, we are"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":333.36,"endTime":339.12,"body":"supportive from day one, but"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":333.36,"endTime":339.12,"body":"it's like our brains just even"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":339.15,"endTime":342.99,"body":"even now still struggle with"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":339.15,"endTime":342.99,"body":"especially when we think of them"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":342.99,"endTime":346.95,"body":"as a kid because at that time,"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":342.99,"endTime":346.95,"body":"we knew them as the girl or we"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":346.95,"endTime":350.85,"body":"thought they were a girl. And so"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":346.95,"endTime":350.85,"body":"our brains want to plug in"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":350.85,"endTime":354.84,"body":"though she her pronouns and have"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":350.85,"endTime":354.84,"body":"to correct ourselves. And what I"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":354.84,"endTime":360.21,"body":"do is, if that comes up in my"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":354.84,"endTime":360.21,"body":"brain, I will make myself say it"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":360.21,"endTime":364.23,"body":"with me them like five or six"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":360.21,"endTime":364.23,"body":"times, at least internally so"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":364.23,"endTime":371.73,"body":"that, that gets reinforced."},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":364.23,"endTime":371.73,"body":"Anyway, that's, that's our, our"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":371.73,"endTime":376.59,"body":"journey with NE And ne has, has"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":371.73,"endTime":376.59,"body":"several disabilities and so they"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":376.59,"endTime":381.39,"body":"live with us. They're not able"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":376.59,"endTime":381.39,"body":"to live on their own right now."},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":381.81,"endTime":385.71,"body":"So that's part of our, our"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":381.81,"endTime":385.71,"body":"journey as well non related to"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":385.95,"endTime":387.6,"body":"them being non binary."},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":388.65,"endTime":392.4,"body":"Interestingly, some of"},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":388.65,"endTime":392.4,"body":"the stories that you relay about"},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":392.4,"endTime":395.64,"body":"nay kind of really resonates"},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":392.4,"endTime":395.64,"body":"with me that kind of had those"},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":395.64,"endTime":399.66,"body":"same discussions. Like, if I"},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":395.64,"endTime":399.66,"body":"could live in a different place"},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":399.66,"endTime":402.45,"body":"in a different universe, these"},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":399.66,"endTime":402.45,"body":"things would be true about me."},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":403.29,"endTime":407.64,"body":"And that's, that's ultimately"},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":403.29,"endTime":407.64,"body":"how I came to my own truth. And"},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":408.39,"endTime":411.78,"body":"when my own child came out as"},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":408.39,"endTime":411.78,"body":"trans, and the funny story is"},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":411.78,"endTime":414.99,"body":"she came out for me, so she's my"},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":411.78,"endTime":414.99,"body":"trans elder, even though I am"},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":414.99,"endTime":419.67,"body":"her parents, nice. And she"},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":414.99,"endTime":419.67,"body":"relayed those same struggles."},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":419.67,"endTime":421.56,"body":"And it was interesting that they"},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":419.67,"endTime":421.56,"body":"were going on in the same"},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":421.56,"endTime":423.69,"body":"household and we weren't talking"},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":421.56,"endTime":423.69,"body":"to each other. We didn't see"},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":423.69,"endTime":427.29,"body":"each other. I knew there was"},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":423.69,"endTime":427.29,"body":"something up, right. But there"},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":427.29,"endTime":430.89,"body":"is something that for me, that"},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":427.29,"endTime":430.89,"body":"was very helpful. And if I could"},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":430.89,"endTime":435.18,"body":"reimagine things, would I be"},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":430.89,"endTime":435.18,"body":"different? And once I got to"},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":435.18,"endTime":440.4,"body":"that, I realized I needed to"},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":435.18,"endTime":440.4,"body":"make changes. Yeah. I love that."},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":441.84,"endTime":446.64,"body":"It's interesting. My,"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":441.84,"endTime":446.64,"body":"my middle daughter is, is my"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":446.64,"endTime":451.17,"body":"autistic elder because she"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":446.64,"endTime":451.17,"body":"figured out that she's autistic"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":451.17,"endTime":455.4,"body":"before I figured out that I also"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":451.17,"endTime":455.4,"body":"am. And so I went to her for"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":455.64,"endTime":459.15,"body":"advice and for all sorts of"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":455.64,"endTime":459.15,"body":"things. And it was it I"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":459.18,"endTime":462.45,"body":"understand that feeling of the"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":459.18,"endTime":462.45,"body":"tables being turned. Oh, you're"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":462.45,"endTime":465.51,"body":"the Wiser one now, because"},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":462.45,"endTime":465.51,"body":"you've been on this path longer."},{"speaker":"Kayleen","startTime":466.02,"endTime":466.26,"body":"Yeah,"},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":466.29,"endTime":468.45,"body":"it's definitely an"},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":466.29,"endTime":468.45,"body":"interesting place to be with my"},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":469.98,"endTime":473.25,"body":"just about to be 27 year old"},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":469.98,"endTime":473.25,"body":"daughter, and you're like, oh,"},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":473.25,"endTime":475.53,"body":"you know, some things on this"},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":473.25,"endTime":475.53,"body":"path that I don't know. And I'm"},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":475.53,"endTime":478.02,"body":"used to be the one kind of"},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":475.53,"endTime":478.02,"body":"mentoring you and sort of moving"},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":478.02,"endTime":480.6,"body":"you along, but what life does,"},{"speaker":"Lisa","startTime":482.13,"endTime":486.09,"body":"but it's fantastic that"},{"speaker":"Lisa","startTime":482.13,"endTime":486.09,"body":"your both your children have"},{"speaker":"Lisa","startTime":486.09,"endTime":491.1,"body":"that support. Because I've had,"},{"speaker":"Lisa","startTime":486.09,"endTime":491.1,"body":"again, as a teacher, I had"},{"speaker":"Lisa","startTime":491.1,"endTime":495.48,"body":"students come to me, not my"},{"speaker":"Lisa","startTime":491.1,"endTime":495.48,"body":"three transitioning my three"},{"speaker":"Lisa","startTime":495.48,"endTime":498.06,"body":"transitioning students had full"},{"speaker":"Lisa","startTime":495.48,"endTime":498.06,"body":"support of their parents, which"},{"speaker":"Lisa","startTime":498.09,"endTime":503.37,"body":"I thought, especially at ages"},{"speaker":"Lisa","startTime":498.09,"endTime":503.37,"body":"1617 and 18, was phenomenal."},{"speaker":"Lisa","startTime":503.64,"endTime":512.4,"body":"Yeah. But my other, you know,"},{"speaker":"Lisa","startTime":503.64,"endTime":512.4,"body":"LGBTQ kids, I wanted to adopt"},{"speaker":"Lisa","startTime":512.4,"endTime":516.57,"body":"for them. Because their parents"},{"speaker":"Lisa","startTime":512.4,"endTime":516.57,"body":"were like, get the hell out of"},{"speaker":"Lisa","startTime":516.57,"endTime":521.43,"body":"my house, you don't belong to me"},{"speaker":"Lisa","startTime":516.57,"endTime":521.43,"body":"anymore. And that, as a parent"},{"speaker":"Lisa","startTime":521.49,"endTime":526.14,"body":"breaks my heart.
