So I"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":145.32,"endTime":147.54,"body":"started seeing really what"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":145.32,"endTime":147.54,"body":"you're talking about a lot of"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":147.54,"endTime":152.49,"body":"inequity around LGBTQ plus"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":147.54,"endTime":152.49,"body":"employees, and realizing not"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":152.49,"endTime":154.56,"body":"only inequity that people just"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":152.49,"endTime":154.56,"body":"didn't even know how to talk"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":154.56,"endTime":157.05,"body":"about it in the workplace,"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":154.56,"endTime":157.05,"body":"right. They're just like, I"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":157.05,"endTime":159.78,"body":"don't want to touch that"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":157.05,"endTime":159.78,"body":"subject, especially trans folks."},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":159.81,"endTime":162.96,"body":"And so taking a journalism"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":159.81,"endTime":162.96,"body":"background to give me a lived"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":162.96,"endTime":166.08,"body":"experience, take my training"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":162.96,"endTime":166.08,"body":"background, I started doing, you"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":166.08,"endTime":168.75,"body":"know, I call it Training, but"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":166.08,"endTime":168.75,"body":"it's not training, I get to give"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":168.75,"endTime":172.08,"body":"presentations, I get to go into"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":168.75,"endTime":172.08,"body":"organizations, usually, I would"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":172.08,"endTime":174.72,"body":"love if they did actual"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":172.08,"endTime":174.72,"body":"training, but it's usually just"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":174.72,"endTime":178.02,"body":"be coming to talk for an hour."},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":174.72,"endTime":178.02,"body":"And so yeah, that's a little bit"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":178.02,"endTime":181.56,"body":"about my professional"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":178.02,"endTime":181.56,"body":"background. I transitioned 16"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":181.56,"endTime":186.27,"body":"years ago, socially, yeah. And"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":181.56,"endTime":186.27,"body":"then medically, you know, over a"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":186.27,"endTime":189.78,"body":"period of five years after that,"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":186.27,"endTime":189.78,"body":"I did some transition,"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":189.81,"endTime":195.15,"body":"transition related care. So I've"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":189.81,"endTime":195.15,"body":"been out in trans, you know, for"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":195.15,"endTime":198.96,"body":"quite a while, but I was out in"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":195.15,"endTime":198.96,"body":"the workplace until seven or"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":198.96,"endTime":203.55,"body":"eight years into transition, I"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":198.96,"endTime":203.55,"body":"did not come out. So and that"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":203.55,"endTime":206.16,"body":"was on purpose, because I had a"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":203.55,"endTime":206.16,"body":"lot of transphobic stuff in the"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":206.16,"endTime":208.95,"body":"workplace, especially in a"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":206.16,"endTime":208.95,"body":"newspaper newsroom. It was not a"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":208.95,"endTime":210.78,"body":"very warm, welcoming place to"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":208.95,"endTime":210.78,"body":"be."},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":211.86,"endTime":216.93,"body":"Yeah, and now I teach in higher"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":211.86,"endTime":216.93,"body":"ed and I teach a journalism"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":216.93,"endTime":220.29,"body":"department at Ball State and I"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":216.93,"endTime":220.29,"body":"do some, like I said, training."},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":220.53,"endTime":224.34,"body":"Yeah, and I just recently joined"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":220.53,"endTime":224.34,"body":"a nonprofit called the Gender"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":224.94,"endTime":229.26,"body":"Research Institute for"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":224.94,"endTime":229.26,"body":"therapeutic therapeutics. We are"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":229.29,"endTime":231.12,"body":"I'm sorry, the research"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":229.29,"endTime":231.12,"body":"institute of gender"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":231.12,"endTime":234.12,"body":"therapeutics, that is butcher"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":231.12,"endTime":234.12,"body":"the name. But we're seeking an"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":234.12,"endTime":236.94,"body":"FDA approved treatment for"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":234.12,"endTime":236.94,"body":"gender dysphoria, which is a big"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":236.94,"endTime":241.05,"body":"deal, because FDA approval has"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":236.94,"endTime":241.05,"body":"some preemptions to it that"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":241.05,"endTime":244.2,"body":"could offer some protections for"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":241.05,"endTime":244.2,"body":"the state bands going on. And"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":244.2,"endTime":245.85,"body":"those are my dogs, and we're"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":244.2,"endTime":245.85,"body":"going to hear them probably a"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":245.85,"endTime":248.28,"body":"lot, because that's what they"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":245.85,"endTime":248.28,"body":"do. I feel like and"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":303.18,"endTime":306.03,"body":"I feel like we're challenging"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":303.18,"endTime":306.03,"body":"some of the gender inequity that"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":306.03,"endTime":308.46,"body":"already exists. You know, we"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":306.03,"endTime":308.46,"body":"talked about the wage gap with"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":308.46,"endTime":313.08,"body":"women. And I think that when we"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":308.46,"endTime":313.08,"body":"start to think about gender less"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":313.08,"endTime":316.92,"body":"as a binary, and, you know, some"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":313.08,"endTime":316.92,"body":"trans people do fit into that"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":316.92,"endTime":319.62,"body":"binary, and that's great. But"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":316.92,"endTime":319.62,"body":"oftentimes, we challenge that"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":319.62,"endTime":323.55,"body":"binary, and I think, challenging"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":319.62,"endTime":323.55,"body":"the gender binary, that's not a"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":323.55,"endTime":328.05,"body":"bad thing for the workplace, I"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":323.55,"endTime":328.05,"body":"think offers more common"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":328.29,"endTime":332.79,"body":"conversations around inequity. I"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":328.29,"endTime":332.79,"body":"think, you know, personally, all"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":332.79,"endTime":336.51,"body":"the trans people I know, are"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":332.79,"endTime":336.51,"body":"really hard workers, really, I"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":336.51,"endTime":339.21,"body":"mean, the work we've had to do"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":336.51,"endTime":339.21,"body":"to be ourselves translates into"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":339.21,"endTime":343.02,"body":"the workplace in a lot of ways."},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":339.21,"endTime":343.02,"body":"And I think that we're, we're"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":343.08,"endTime":347.46,"body":"such valuable assets, as far as"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":343.08,"endTime":347.46,"body":"perspective taking to, you know,"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":347.46,"endTime":351.0,"body":"especially like, those of us"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":347.46,"endTime":351.0,"body":"that did have, you know, an"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":351.0,"endTime":353.85,"body":"experience as one gender in the"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":351.0,"endTime":353.85,"body":"workplace in transition, we can"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":353.85,"endTime":356.79,"body":"offer those perspectives. And I"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":353.85,"endTime":356.79,"body":"think that providing us with"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":356.79,"endTime":360.48,"body":"equity, one, you're going to"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":356.79,"endTime":360.48,"body":"attract us to your company, and"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":360.48,"endTime":363.33,"body":"I think we're great employees,"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":360.48,"endTime":363.33,"body":"like I said, too, I think it"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":363.33,"endTime":366.81,"body":"offers a space for the bigger"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":363.33,"endTime":366.81,"body":"topics about gender."},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":367.59,"endTime":370.92,"body":"Yeah, I love one of the"},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":367.59,"endTime":370.92,"body":"things that you spoke about"},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":370.92,"endTime":374.73,"body":"there in that units, what we"},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":370.92,"endTime":374.73,"body":"have to offer, particularly as"},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":374.73,"endTime":378.15,"body":"transgender individuals, that"},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":374.73,"endTime":378.15,"body":"experience actually leads to"},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":378.15,"endTime":382.5,"body":"some things that businesses can"},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":378.15,"endTime":382.5,"body":"lack. I know that when I was not"},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":382.53,"endTime":386.94,"body":"Erica before, was good employee,"},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":382.53,"endTime":386.94,"body":"I was a high performer, I, you"},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":386.94,"endTime":391.56,"body":"know, worked for quite a few"},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":386.94,"endTime":391.56,"body":"large companies. And afterwards,"},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":391.59,"endTime":396.12,"body":"you know, some opinions changed,"},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":391.59,"endTime":396.12,"body":"really, for no reason I can"},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":396.12,"endTime":401.22,"body":"point to, right. And the thing"},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":396.12,"endTime":401.22,"body":"that that has blown my mind at"},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":401.22,"endTime":404.61,"body":"time is everything that I've put"},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":401.22,"endTime":404.61,"body":"on the table before is still"},{"speaker":"Erica","startTime":404.61,"endTime":407.94,"body":"there. And"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":440.61,"endTime":445.08,"body":"the climate was not great, you"},{"speaker":"Leo","startTime":445.08,"endTime":448.74,"body":"know, I would speak up.
