Finding Joy in Work: Consider the Ant
Show Notes

Finding Joy in work: Consider the Ant and imitating our God who works
“Go to the ant, O sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise. Without having any chief, officer, or ruler, she prepares her bread in summer and gathers her food in harvest.” Proverbs 6:6–8, ESV
“Bondservants, obey in everything those who are your earthly masters, not by way of eye-service, as people-pleasers,
but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord. Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men,”
Colossians 3:22–23, ESV

Imitating the God Who Works keys to living wisely as workers
“There is nothing better for a person than that he should eat and drink and find enjoyment in his toil. This also, I saw,
is from the hand of God,” Ecclesiastes 2:24, ESV

Work in Balance - Work and Rest
“God gave us a balanced pattern of work and rest, so we might remain dependent upon his grace instead of our own
efforts. Now we come to a final encouragement: When work is in its proper place in our lives, we can taste divine
joy.”

Finding pleasure in Work
“Our God not only works, continually and with perfect effectiveness, he takes pleasure in his labors” Chariots of Fire and Eric Liddell quote:
“One of my favorite films is Chariots of Fire, which tells the story of 1924 Olympic gold-medalist Eric Liddell. In one scene, Eric is debating with his sister, Jennie, about the value of his running versus his long-term goal of being a missionary in China. Jennie thinks Eric’s running is trivial compared to missionary work. Eric replies to her,
“Jennie...you’ve got to understand. I believe that God made me for a purpose...for China. But he also made me fast, and when I run, I feel his pleasure.”
