Shalom Aleichem, the hero of Kaplan's works, was also a cultural hero in the Soviet Union, afforded an iconic status that no Yiddish writer had achieved before him. At this station we will discover his strong ties with Lev Tolstoy and Maxim Gorky, and learn about the conditions that enabled him to place Jewish culture at the forefront of his work despite Soviet censorship.
