Episode 135: The Killer (1989)

Sawyer Gann

Welcome back to Film Haven Reviews!!! This week we are sadly concluding out "John Woo Gun Fu: Origins" theme with the highly rated The Killer (1989).

Chow Yun-Fat is at it again and this film feels like a good balance between the story focused A Better Tomorrow (1986) and the action blowout Hard Boiled (1992). There are certainly some great (and even legendary) action secquences in this film, but you also care alot more for the characters' motivations and, importantly, what happens to them in the story. I gave this film an 8.5/10 for having the best balance in this theme with the only downside being that it dragged a bit in the middle.
