Independent provider Sarah Burch. "In the community with people I like to hangout with"!
Wyatt interviews Independent provider Sarah Burch. Sarah was hired to run a day camp for kids with and without disabilities watching them all play games together is when Sarah found her passion. Sarah has worked for Special Olympics Nebraska and Wisconsin. Before that she was a Special Education teacher for 10 years. Sarah has coached many Special Olympics sports that she has lost count. She loves to see how competitive her athletes get when they play in there state tournaments. Sarah is intendent provider where she helps adults with disabilities get the support they need. Sarah shares how being a Independent provider isn't just about teaching her clients how to be more independent or providing the help they need on a daily basics. Its about the relationships you b with them as people. Sarah will hangout with some of her former students she treats them like any other sets of friends she hang's out with. Sarah talks about what its like for when she goes out in the community with her clients or group of friends how people really don't see it as normal for a group of people with disabilities hanging out in public. Through all of her interactions with people with disabilities has taught her so many life lessons on showing up everyday not giving up when things are hard. How being out in the community playing Special Olympics or going out to eat is the highlight of there week!
