Ahoy there everyone! We're taking a trip to sea this week as Rachel tells Margie all about high adventure (and a lot of kidnapping) in The Rogue Pirate's Bride by Shana Galen. Because nothing says attraction and romance like a healthy dose of bloody revenge!

Rachel:

Warning. The following podcast contains adult themes. Our hosts are just too romantic saps that love overthinking and overanalyzing their favorite literary genre the thoughts and opinions expressed are entirely their own listener discretion is advised. tearing me apart from UC Merced. Hello, and welcome to textual tension, a love hate relationship with romance novels. I'm your co host, Rachel and I am your co host, Margie. Every other week, one of us reads a romance novel and summarizes it for our unsuspecting co host this week as a co host that's listening is Margie yay. Telling the story. Yeah. And together we unpack what the fuck just happened. Yeah. So Oh, buddy. This one was a bit of a struggle. Not because the book was bad, because I know. Because I was reading it while I was also preparing for a crossover episode that Margie and I are doing. And we are the illustrious batas tipplers. And the book we're reading for that. Oh, was challenging. So overshadowed this one. But this one was still really good. But

Margie:

yeah, it was the book that we're reading for batas tipplers. I had to like take off the outer cover thing. So

Rachel:

you stopped looking ever I stopped

Margie:

looking at the cover because it's so bad. And I hated so much that I didn't want to be reminded of what I was reading.

Rachel:

So if you guys if you're new or if you are repeat listeners, just so you know, we will be having a neat little crossover with POTUS Tipler. So check out our episode where they'll be on with us and then we will be on with them and you want to listen to the really just God awful book. We listened to go listen

Margie:

to the read. So yeah, we read with that. Yeah. Yeah.

Rachel:

All right. Okay. Are you ready, Margie?

Margie:

I think

Rachel:

okay, good. I'm glad you think.

Margie:

Do I need to hold on to potatoes? No.

Rachel:

Okay. No, actually, the the the history in this book. isn't that bad? Oh, okay. Yeah. Okay. Um, okay. Can I can I so I'm going to send you. I'm going to hand you the cover to this book, and I want you to explain it to our beautiful

Margie:

listeners. Oh, my God.

Unknown:

Oh, wow.

Margie:

Okay, okay. Um, so the title of the book is the rogue pirates bribe, which is I don't think you need to say that he's a rogue if he's already a pirate. Isn't that already? Don't Yeah, okay. Just said the pirates bride, which honestly, probably would have sounded better, whatever. Um, it's a tale of true love and high adventure. Okay, so, um, the cover of the book is a shirtless dude at par usual, who seems to have a very large package who's like,

Rachel:

I'm pretty hot piece. Not just a package.

Margie:

Those pants are pretty tight.

Rachel:

I mean, so we're David Bowie's in

Margie:

fact, that was a cod pastor. Um, you can see the underwear. It's blue. Blue. Yeah. Well, is that what is that? Right. I don't know what else that would be. I think it is. Well, so and he is holding on to the waste of a young woman in a blue dress that matches the blue of his underwear. And she is holding a sword while looking deeply into his eyes and they're standing at like what looks like a rocky beach with the waves coming up behind them. Okay. Yeah, yeah, it's, uh,

Rachel:

what about that title versus author name?

Margie:

The author's name is larger than the title did

Rachel:

you say to the author was not yet.

Margie:

The author's name is Shana. Kailyn. Do you think that's a real name?

Rachel:

You know, I don't know. Yeah, it's

Margie:

very obvious. Isn't it? Very long. Yeah.

Rachel:

Um, yeah.

Margie:

lively dialogue, breakneck pace and great sense of fun. Oh, boy. Okay, so here we go. Oh, it's kind of really it's actually the the description is very short. Yeah, it's insertion consider 1802, France. After escaping France on a privateer ship. Sebastian Harcourt Marquis de Valera becomes notorious privateer Captain Cutlass

Unknown:

for himself.

Rachel:

Yeah. It's explained

Margie:

okay. And cross swords with the beauty daughter of a British Admiral. Right? Raven wrestle and her name is spelt it's Raven but it's spelled with an E at the beginning. R A u e r EY V Ed so unnecessary Raven wrestle wants to avenge her fiance's death. That's the end once Jordan to a bench his mentors death, but vengeance melts in the key of passion. Who? This doesn't even make sense. Bastion

Rachel:

Sebat the main job that's

Margie:

okay, Bastion Sebastian,

Rachel:

there's like three different names for that fucker. So I'd like to mention make a quick, Jordan Jourdain Jordanian like for a short day. Oh, go go into that. So a couple of my personal notes on the cover. This man is not attractive. Also, he is he's very oiled. So I was gonna say like, oh, like Nacho Libre law. Yeah, yeah. baby oil. Yeah. And she's not comfortable. She looks actually very uncomfortable.

Margie:

She looks like she's thinking about something else. Yeah, yeah. She's working really hard to make that come out. Uh huh.

Rachel:

She is. She just looks like, like, I don't know, like you're stepping on my foot. That's kind of the vibe that I got from her like, Hey,

Margie:

I don't think that I don't know. It's just like, a very awkward pose. Yeah, yeah. Absolutely. not natural at all. No, slightest. No.

Rachel:

So the reason I picked this yes, please tell me. Honestly, the thing that made me pick it up was the fact that she had a sword which is pretty rare. Yeah, for this kind of book. Um, and to be fair, because we're doing that crossover blast Hitler's they do the older books, and I very much got like that vibe. Right, right. Okay, well, yeah, I think this was written. Oh, God, on the cover, like it has that like, older kind of vibe to it. Late 80s.

Margie:

Early 90s 2012 Oh, my God. I had to look it up afterwards. Oh, my God. I mean, all greased up,

Rachel:

I would have like a fucking Greece.

Margie:

I feel really bad. Actually. I feel really bad for that male model because they were like, he's not

Rachel:

that attractive.

Margie:

I don't think he's that. I don't think he's unattractive so much. It's just not like that interesting looking either. At all, like both placeholder people. Yeah,

Rachel:

it's not great. Um, we do have a guest host today. We have Miss Venus. Who's an adorable dogs. Oh, yeah. So if you hear jingling it could be her. She's mostly quiet. But just in case

Margie:

just in case. Yes. She is the goddess of love.

Rachel:

We have just a rotating cast of Amidon cocoa. Yes. Yeah. Okay, so trigger warnings. Yes. Um, I don't really think there are any good. There's that ever present powder trigger dusting of assault. Okay, I would say. But it's it is if you couldn't tell historical fiction, so that doesn't like they actually do a pretty good job of not hitting some of the really bad stuff.

Margie:

Okay. Well, I mean, it was written in 2012. So I would hope, I would hope so. Yeah. I mean, I feel like the book that we read for batas tipplers is kind of like, like covered all of that. So

Rachel:

I've never wanted to gouge my eyes out with a melon baller more than I did when reading anyway, um, yeah, so thanks for the memories Okay, so yeah, no, I don't think there's really any any triggers. It's just that that ever present patter trigger dusting? Okay, yeah, right. Um, so real quick. Kind of go over my characters. Okay, so we have Raven wrestle? is such a special snowflake name. She is the daughter of a British Admiral. Okay and has lived her entire life at sea. Nice Sophie so cool is actually a really like strong character in that she like she is not afraid to take care of herself. She's a really good source woman she can like do all of this like stuff she's she's pretty badass. But the way she looks she has black hair. Hence the name green eyes is stacked her she stacks

Margie:

both really annoying at sea with all

Rachel:

the waves. She finds her chest Oh, yeah, I can't blame her. She binds her yeah also dresses as a dude a lot. Also can't blame her for that. And she's very strong. Like Like physically okay like because she's helps with like rigging and yeah being I mean she's she's looked at see she helps with the ship.

Margie:

She's like the she's like Prince Eric a little bit. Yeah, she

Rachel:

can't actually yeah, that's a really good analogy.

Margie:

Even got the dark hair thing down.

Rachel:

Perfect. Yeah, students now Ariel. Oh my god. So Okay, Sebastian, or Bastian or Captain Cutlass?

Unknown:

Oh my god. Why?

Rachel:

There is a reason for that name.

Margie:

Please tell me you're gonna explain it I will pick a particularly good

Rachel:

um, he has dark brown hair is in super good shape obviously because he's the captain of a ship right right. I'm squaring Angular jaw. And I want to give you a couple guesses we're gonna play a little bit of a game okay, game Oh game okay, I'm gonna guess the color of his eyes. Oh my god, I love this game. Okay,

Margie:

do I get options or do I just have to guess I get three.

Rachel:

I will give you the side of the color wheel it's on it's on the cooler side

Margie:

of cooler blue Okay. Sapphire no clothes Topaz yellow no Topaz was blue I had to look it up

Rachel:

all right you're on the right track in that vein of descriptors

Unknown:

ocean blue I don't know cobalt maybe oh my god

Rachel:

I don't know he has Cobalt is baby green like the sea I love

Margie:

how you just say that the you like that? He's Cobalt is like that. Yeah, that that. Yeah, that voice basking

Rachel:

breathy voice. Good Lord. You can't see it. But my eyes are rolling into the sunset. Protect

Margie:

to protect the house Venus. Yes.

Rachel:

Protect Xavier. So are you ready for adventure? on the high seas?

Margie:

I'm so ready. So I was born ready.

Rachel:

So a couple of things that I was actually right off of that kind of impressed with their history is on point. This takes place very shortly after the French Revolution. A lot of people got stopped out got their heads liberated bummer. Yeah. So scene one. Yay. Raven is hunting down the renowned pirate captain Cutlass in a seedy dockside tavern. She's dressed as a man and hanging out with her close friend Percy. All right. So she's pretending to be like a dude because she wants to hunt him down for Ruth. So she basically you gather that her and her friend Percy's knock off the ship without her dad knowing which is cool. That is a common occurrence.

Margie:

Again, like Little Mermaid, she's going

Rachel:

to she has like she's like Prince Eric but an aerial situation because she just leaves. Yeah, from her dad so much.

Margie:

It's gonna be King Triton. Yeah,

Rachel:

essentially. So she they find Captain cutlasses. The first she's been hunting for him for six months at this point. Okay, find some of the first time she's found him. And she just straight up goes up and says I challenge you to a duel. I want revenge.

Margie:

That as I love

Rachel:

it, no. And so they fight it out. Like they have a full on like,

Margie:

and he thinks she's a man right? Oh, like saber duel in

Rachel:

the middle of this bar. And she barely loses. Barely. Oh,

Unknown:

wow. I know.

Rachel:

I know. But she just barely loses. And he so he goes and he's like, so he makes a comment about how like someone you know a young boy like hurt like him should not you know yada yada yada and pulled the cap off.

Margie:

Oh, no. And we're steals all of this gorgeous Raven hair.

Rachel:

black raven black hair. Yeah. Uh huh. And he's like, Oh, shit.

Margie:

It's like that. It's it's, it does remind me of that trope of like pulling up a wad pin that all comes down that's not how that works at all.

Rachel:

He would make doing your hair a lot easier. Right? And so he like puts on this show of like, you know, making body comments. I'm like, You can be my cabin girl and like all this stuff and taken to the ship. But, and Percy is like, like, it's up closer and he's like, What are you doing? And she's like, Don't worry, I'll be back within four hours that she saved to the ship and he like you know, obviously puts on this show and he goes to leave the tavern and you just see his internal monologue of Jesus Christ. What the fuck like he's like, God damn,

Margie:

Percy or Cutlass Cutlass, okay,

Rachel:

like God dammit. What the hell? Why am I doing this? Like, it's it's kind of funny to see him like haha, there's like Jesus Christ. Yep. So he takes her back to the ship and she is fighting the entire Time like punching people like just putting up a hell of a fight. Um, so she's they throw her in his cabin, while he goes to take care of like they're they're in the process of getting things loaded for leaving. And so he like goes in and he's like God I guess I just need to talk to her and figure this shit out right so he like kept better get it over with and goes in and things get steamy as it does and quick is our powdered sugar Dustin comes in oh great because every time she's like fighting him the whole fucking time she's

Margie:

not a powdered sugar dusting.

Rachel:

She's not 100% not into it. She's into it. But also Oh, yeah, a lot of a lot of solace in the fact that she like, is like kneeing him in the groin and like, like really doing damage to it. She's okay earning him. Yeah, so the only way it gets steamy. So here's basically how he goes into the cabin. And immediately regrets. Like, she like he gets beamed upside the head with a candlestick. He walks in. He's like, SHAN I should have seen that guy. So he like grabs her wrist. And he's like, trying to like restrain her from hurting him. Yeah, he's hurting him. And then at some point in the process of restraining she, he's like on top of her on the floor, and then he makes like a funny joke about it. And then he's like, Well, if you let me kiss you once and you like it, Will you calm down? And she's like, fine. It's not good.

Margie:

I hate that. I hate that so much. That reminds me of darkhei lidder. Where like, he like the bed. Like to use his body to like tire up while he's kissing her. No, no, no, right?

Rachel:

It's not. No. Mild sexual assault is not good. Yeah, no, it's not. No boy. No, it is not what I would call gray.

Unknown:

No, it's great.

Rachel:

Okay, so they have sex. Notice it just gets deep. It gets steamy. Okay, um, but they're interrupted because a do knock on the door and pulls Cutlass aside and cutlasses. Like are they tell him like, you know who that is? And he's like, No, it's the daughter of the English the British Admiral. He's like, Oh, fuck, I gotta figure out what to do. So he turns around, he goes back to the cabin, and she's gone. Because she picked a lock with her hairpin and just straight up left.

Margie:

What a badass. I love her jumped off

Rachel:

the side of the ship and slammed ashore and she's like, gotta go. Good for her.

Margie:

It's pretty. Go and she was wearing pants probably will be easier to swim. It's true, right?

Rachel:

Yeah. And it's actually funny because she she leaves him a note. So this whole thing is she's trying she wants to kill him. She wants to murder him.

Margie:

Why does she want to murder he killed her fiance.

Rachel:

Oh,

Margie:

oh, my. Oh my god. Okay. And this is no, no, I don't like that. Because if somebody did that to me, and then was trying to come on. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.

Rachel:

First words all while some of the first words you hear from her is hmm, he's handsome. Not in a like I like him way but in I expected him to look like a monster kind of way.

Margie:

And I'll bet you know, in a way it makes it easier. Because it's like, if you're, you know, ugly on the outside is kind of like your sins are up for the world to see. In a way. You know what I mean? Yeah, not though. Yeah.

Rachel:

Yeah, that's yeah. No, she's it's a whole thing. She wants to kill him because she well, I shouldn't phrase she thinks he murdered her husband.

Margie:

Okay. Her fiance. Yeah, yes. So she thinks but yes.

Rachel:

A little bit. He did. Oh, directly. It's a thing. It comes out a little bit later. Um, so

Margie:

that her fiance better be like, evil or something. He

Rachel:

wasn't great. Okay. Um, so, that's our first introduction. Okay, Raven and Cutlass who from now on I will refer to as Bastian okay, because that's what most people refer to him in the book. And also Captain Cutlass is a stupid name. It's such a stupid name.

Margie:

So it's so dumb.

Rachel:

It's so dumb. So. Okay, now? Six months later. Wow. Okay, we jumped. Um, so Cutlass GMA call them. Bastian, okay, Bastian is in Gibraltar. Yeah. Okay, cool. Um, he's so he is trying to track down a man named Jourdain. I'm called. Jordan. I don't know. Georgia. He's recording. Yeah. Fascist French so I assumed your Dane just until like when I read it.

Margie:

When I read Jordanian it looks like it needs an E at the end. That's why I kind of like

Rachel:

I don't have any French background, so I don't know. Oh, so yeah, so should I do Jordan or Jordan Jordan for now? Well, there's your name. So hunting him down because Jordan killed the father figure essentially, fashions father figure.

Margie:

So they're both out for revenge they are, they're both out for revenge.

Rachel:

And we'll get into his whole story here in a little bit, but we don't know it yet. In this part, so he's in Gibraltar hunting down a lead about Jourdain. And he's invited to this whole bowl. There's like an event ball kind of thing going on. Okay. He's invited by the pasha in Gibraltar, who's like the Okay, leader, I guess. pa s ha, yeah. Okay, gotcha. Um, because he's like, I might have information on this man. And all I can think of is the one dude from Indiana Jones. You do? They named you after the dog? Like that guy? Yeah, sorry. That was that was maybe not a necessary reference, but you ate it and we love it. Um, so he's there and he's about to leave cuz he's like, Look, I've been around for a while. I do not want to deal with all these people. And I'm not obviously not getting information. I'm just gonna go for leaves. Guess who strolls in? The admiral and his daughter? Oh, boy. Sebastian has a day moment because this is the first time he's seen her in lady's class. Her Yeah. Her hair down and without her chest bound and everything. Yeah,

Margie:

okay. Like damn, titties. Yeah.

Rachel:

He had. He had one of those. Oh, baby, are you from France? But Jayla moments. Yeah. So and the passion notices that they kind of make eye contact across the room. She's like, Oh, let me introduce you. And so he drags Bastian over and introduces him to the admiral and Raven. And the Emerald is ready to Jack Bastian because he knows the bastions. The one that when Raven when Raven snuck out? The Emerald is aware that she snuck out and came back when she got to talking to about okay, so he knows that bastions, the one that like grabbed her and took Oh, you know, decades. Yeah. And she's like, No, no, not here. It's fine. Let's keep it because they're in the middle of a ball. Right? And so, Bastian is like Alright, um, you know, nice to meet you. I'm leaving, and he leaves and she runs after him. Okay, she did her thing. And she's like, I'm still gonna kill you. Also, I want my sword back. I love it.

Margie:

Before you die, I want my sore sore

Rachel:

so I can kill you. And his thing is like, I think it's better for both of us if you're not armed to actually have kind of a funny banter thing going on. So he just wants to leave. But she's like way laying him and trying to like get a ball in his business. And spatially, Bashan suddenly noticed that someone is walking down the hall and Sebastian was there with his his like second command on the ship, essentially. And he told the second man to go off and go back to the ship, he'd fall along. So they're in the hallway, and they know that he noticed someone coming down the hallway. So his natural response. I want you to guess what his response is? To Oh, no, there's someone coming down the hallway that I might not want to notice me and this woman

Margie:

pushed me him and her in a closet. Shadows.

Rachel:

And oh, no, they're gonna walk past us and I don't want them to know who I am. And notice me What do you think I'm going to do to make it look like I'm occupied? If you guessed make out with her wishes, while she fights in the entire time, you're right.

Margie:

I don't understand that either. Because the person walking down the hall is gonna notice that she's happy. Not that he's gonna he might not stop it because people can be assholes. But like, he's gonna notice that more he might notice who's doing the making out with and being made out. I

Rachel:

think my exact notes are batched and tries to act inconspicuous by you guessed it making out with Alko. Because that's an effective way to be inconspicuous. Yes, yeah. Yep. Right. Yeah, exactly. So, as it happens, this man that's walking past is your day in second in command. And fashion recognizes him. Okay. So he goes to follow him and he's like, alright, you know, Raven, you can leave now. And then he leaves. He's like, I gotta go by and he goes to chase after this dude. Yeah. And she's like, Oh, and follows. She's like, What the hell's going on?

Margie:

She sneaks up for him or

Rachel:

she goes straight. Okay with him.

Margie:

I would have snuck Oh, yes.

Rachel:

Snack. So Raven follows them. And Shy surprise. This guy knew that they're going to do that and try To shoot it gets high octane.

Margie:

Okay, so wait who's second McManus

Rachel:

so it's Jourdain second goes your Dane.

Margie:

Okay. Okay, gotcha

Rachel:

game second command that they're chasing after rightness dude knows that they're following him. Yeah. And then starts to try. He like attacks them. Oh great. Yeah. So he tries to shoot him and like they get into this like struggle in the hallway. And Raven is like ah and pulls the dagger out from where she had it on her thigh and throws it.

Unknown:

It's very cool.

Margie:

She's so prepared. She's such a boy scout. She's

Rachel:

hella badass. She's so

Margie:

useless compared to her.

Rachel:

I mean, he does. He does a lot of damage. Also, he has like a rifle and a sword. Okay. And she's kind of support at this moment. Okay, um, but Well, keep going. And there's there's been like, I don't want to make it seem like, I mean, he is absolutely forcing himself on her in certain situations. Yes. 100% I don't want to make it seem like she is like, absolutely against it. Okay, like she's not 100 Like she's like it's more the reason she's against it is more of like this man killed my fiancee. Like I'm morally opposed to it because of this

Margie:

right now. Not physically, not physically visceral viscerally opposed to it. Yeah.

Rachel:

Like he she finds him very attractive. And also nothing he's done to her. Like, she's seen him in situations that like, he's not a bad person. Yeah, but she can't rationalize that he's,

Margie:

but he's done a bad thing. And yeah, that'd be hard. Like, you know that the person has done this bad thing, but then they're being really nice, but they're like, that doesn't make him like a decent human being, but

Rachel:

that doesn't make him kissing her and shit when she doesn't want it. Okay. Oh, God, I just it to the next part. Make a little more sense. We need

Margie:

that. Yeah, yeah. And it's, I mean, I shouldn't say it wouldn't be a romance novel. He really liked it. No, I get it still steamy.

Rachel:

Yep. Yeah. So they end up being chased by basically this Jordans whole crew has basically been lying in wait for Bastion because Jordan wants bashing dead too. So they're being chased by them. And they're like hiding, and they're fighting and everything. And Raven is like, you know, holding her own and just a total badass basically, as she do. And they end up getting into a final struggle, where like, so they're both hiding, and he's like, you stay hidden. I'm going to go and I'm going to distract them. And they'll trace after me and you go back because you don't need to get mixed up. Yes, just like good because I don't want to be. And he starts sneaking away try to get their attention and notices that the dude is going to go into the temporary hiding. And so he's like, fuck, so he like comes out in the open rather than escaping and is like, Hey, I'm over here. Yeah. And so she ends up coming out and helping him and it's this whole thing. And at one point, she like stabs a dude basically kills a guy with a debt with her dagger. Cool. And she's like, I need to help. Bastion who's fighting the second in command guy? I need my dagger. Oh, I hate blood. She hates blood. But she's a badass like, she can stab people and shoot people and everything but as soon as she has to touch blood she likes to get but it's also kind of funny. Yeah. But so and passion kind of notices what she's doing. And he's like, I swear to God, if she actually reaches into that dude's chest and picks up a dagger and helps me I'm gonna marry her one day. And she of course force but so in the end, they are saved by some of the harshest men who had heard the commotion. And so Cutlass is able to walk fashion is able to get away she's able to go back to the thing and they part ways again. So they are still on Gibraltar, but they are on their respective ships. Her father is obviously upset because she obviously right away again, yada yada yada. So the next night she decides she's like, they're sailing out soon. We're sailing out soon. I want my damn sword. So,

Margie:

I want my dad's sore.

Rachel:

So she convinces her same friend Percy to go, no. Go with it, and sneak back onto Bastion ship to get her sword. So they go and he like Percy like rose over and she swims through the water and like climbs up the ropes and like muscles her way onto this, you know, onto the ship. And she's like, okay, she makes a distraction. And she like goes she sneaks back into his cabin. And she opens the she like, picks the lock opens it up and he's laying there on the bed like I need come back. Oh, totally knew what she was gonna do. They get no okay. He's not naked.

Margie:

I just love him casually said But

Rachel:

no, he was just waiting. Oh my god. Yeah. So, um, let's see. So passion captures them both basically Percy gets put in the brig. Okay, and she is in like still in his cabin. She's like, he's like alright, we all know how this is gonna shake down. Here's what's gonna happen you probably need to get back to your dead ship by the time morning rolls around or he's gonna notice that you're gone huh? I'll get you back by then. That's fine.

Unknown:

Oh,

Rachel:

let me know what you want to kill me. So here and hands are a dagger in her sword is like, kill me he just lays down on the bed. He's like, go for it and shows him his strips hurt his neck.

Unknown:

But why?

Margie:

What is snarky bastard he

Rachel:

really is he's such a snarky bastard. Um, so we kind of this is where we learned about her quest for revenge and we also learn bastions point of view on the whole thing. Because it's like Alright, here's what happened though. Her fiance was a captain in the British Navy. He attacked their ship during a storm which was very poured planning on his part Yeah. With the intent to kill the captain take the ship and pressing the crew Okay, and so in the battle he the fiance ended up dying okay during the battle okay, it was like during like cannon fire you know, that kind of deal. So it wasn't directly bastions fault. Okay, and he didn't initiate the battle because Bashan is not technically a pirate is a oh, gosh, what's it called? Are they have letters of marque from Spain? Privateer

Margie:

privates here, okay. Privateer, okay.

Rachel:

Um, so he is sailing under letters of marque from Spain. So not technically a pirate, but she calls him a pirate all the time. But so that's when we learn about what actually happened to her fiance, okay, and she is like, and she's like, she's gonna do you know, raise her sword. And he's like, no, no, this is revenge. That sword is way too, like you have to do it has to be more of an intimate thing. Right? Use your dagger. So she gets out the dagger and she doesn't just like holding it to his neck and she's like yeah, and so he starts to like,

Unknown:

Oh, no. Oh, no.

Rachel:

The best way I can explain this. I guess. Things get steamy. She isn't gonna kill him because he's successfully called her bluff.

Margie:

Yes, okay, there's

Rachel:

a lot of daggers and cutting of dresses

Margie:

so unnecessary. Like I know clothes were hard to get out of it that time but like

Rachel:

she's wearing right now because she had been like really like, like sopping wet and everything from sinking out of his ship. So he's like, I'm gonna go deal with your friend. There's clothes in that trunk put something dry on. And there's dresses and some of his clothes as she picks one of the dresses and it does not fit her. Okay, way too tight. Yeah, so she's like already popping out of it, essentially. And he just like, cuts it off of her essential so kind of dangerous like it's just so X.

Margie:

I was thinking to myself though. It's so extra and I was also thinking myself I thought originally that was her only dress. No, no, no, that's a walk back or swim back to her father's ship naked.

Rachel:

She She snuck on a ship dressed as a dude with like, okay, like she was grafted and everything um, but things so things start to get steamy lots of

Margie:

she popped out of like her her wrapping thing.

Rachel:

Nobody cuts it off of her straight up cuts it off of her with the dagger she was gonna use to kill him hilarious jiggle physics

Margie:

boy animate animate

Rachel:

physics and nosebleed so they are interrupted in the midst of of course getting steamy Yeah. By one of Jordans urns right now sorry, one of bastions men banging on the door and saying hey, so you guys were in here is your danger sail past us he's like shit, he just turned our eyes like Sorry, this is way more important than you right now. And so he sails off with both of them still on the ship. Oh,

Unknown:

no.

Rachel:

Oh, no effectively kidnapped Percy and Raven. Oh, God. At least let them

Margie:

swim back to shore again.

Rachel:

No time must for revenge. Revenge must revenge. So they're chasing after them and he eventually like he lets like Percy Raven goes down and finds Percy in the hole and they're talking and he like comes down. He's like, okay, obviously, you know, both of you don't have to stay in the break here. He like lets them both go. But he's like, sorry, this is really important to me.

Margie:

It is what it is,

Rachel:

right? Yeah, I'm still gonna try to like be good to like invite them to dinner with the rest of like the heads of his like crew and everything. Yeah, he's trying to be civil but he did definitely. Yeah, he also definitely has the entirety of the British Navy after Right exactly.

Margie:

That's what I was thinking to have. Like, you have the admirals daughter this is not gonna work out well for you

Rachel:

man does not do foresight.

Margie:

No, not at all. I really hope he's got like the frickin black pearl or something because

Rachel:

I'm sorry, but his ships name is the shadow was shot.

Unknown:

Oh my god.

Rachel:

Yeah. So he's trying to be like, you know, nice to them everything. And then there he and Raven are like talking more and getting a little bit more of like, acquainted, right, like well, and she's like, helping out around the ship and actually being like, useful. I'm not gonna just sit there and be dumb, like, yes, like, you know, and so the crew is starting to respect her a little bit. And they are hunting after Jordanian but a very dense fog sort of descends so they're trying to hunt after him in the middle of this fog they can hardly see anything he could be anywhere. So at this time we get we meet the ship's doctor who was used to be a one of bastions servants when he was little. So at this point, Raven doesn't know that he is the marquis because he Oh, he thinks that it's a story that he's circulated to give himself more legitimacy right Oh, okay. We ended up meeting she ends up sitting down having a conversation with the his like ship Infirmary guy who was one of the servants was little and we find out that he is indeed a monkey. And or I learned I actually did learn that you know, the French is Marquis in England, they would call it Marcus. But that was funny. Yeah, just because it mispronunciation Yeah, um, but he is the Marquis and he watched his family house burned down. And he and his servant were the only ones to escape that he's like, it's just them during the French Revolution, so his dad who was actually a really good guy, who was the Duke was beheaded during that. And so he's like Madame guillotine ah ha So he's the only one left the interesting

Margie:

talk about the tragic backstory Batman well,

Rachel:

so that they're like, well, we needed to get out of France so we signed up on the first like privateer ship we could find and that's how he became a sailor right Wow. When he was like six people like six years old um, but so we also start to learn a little bit that the head of the like the infirmary guy does not think that his family necessarily may not be alive anymore so there's a possibility his family saved but he's not willing to look for them because he's like No, I saw the house burned down like it's too painful. I'm not not gonna Oh not

Margie:

don't open old wounds. Yeah, so who's still alive? Holy still alive. It's awesome. Yeah, yeah, absolutely. And

Rachel:

this book came out of left field Yeah, absolutely. So yeah, um, so they're hanging out in the fog trying to find people and all of a sudden a they get shot by cannons Just out of nowhere out of the phone or something shoots them okay and does some pretty significant damage to the ship and it's it's your day so God knows where they are in the fog Oh no, like naval battle and fashion is immediate like like Raven actually is able to tell if you're a good captain because meetings like I'm where I need to be me like you know, giving orders and like making sure everything happens and they like volley back and everything and they end up doing more damage to Jordanian than they short handed to him. So surveying runs away but they still took a lot of damage and in all of this like they're trying to get the cannons ready to fire and everything and he's like trying to get Raven downstairs and she just runs past him and like takes a cannon and just starts like loading the cannon and just and she's like lifting everything with all the dudes and like is being like a strong female character. Yeah, like Yes. And Bastion just has this moment of holy shit that's high. And that keeps going and he appreciates a woman that can fire a cannon. So we've got that going for us. That's not found in any way. Hey,

Margie:

oh, we need a t shirt that says that.

Rachel:

Hey, Oh, hey. Oh, my good. Um, yeah, I think in my notes, it says Raven just straight up, grabs a cannon helps shoot and stuff and Bastian is extremely aroused by this. doesn't talk about his deck. No. Okay, good. There's no twitching of dicks. Oh, I

Margie:

love that. Okay, good. Yeah, yeah.

Rachel:

Um, so like I said, they take the image but Jordan takes more and runs away to go hide and they go back to you The main cabin and found what Wow in the aftermath amazing victory sag victory sex because again, sure Danes like or not also adrenaline, adrenaline and also bastions like. So fire cannon really aroused by the whole cannon thing. He's super

Margie:

into it.

Rachel:

And you know, I'll be honest, it's not bad somebody scene takes up like three chapters.

Margie:

The studies, three chapters. Yeah,

Rachel:

it was way long. I was like, What are they doing? Not done yet. It was normal sexy time, but it was well written sexy time. Okay. I mean, sure. Yeah, it was just way longer than I expected it to be. I was like, okay, okay.

Unknown:

Okay.

Margie:

Well, how far are we like, how far into the book? Are we at this point?

Rachel:

Um, we're like, halfway.

Margie:

Okay. Yeah, so that makes sense. You know, it's been kind of a while.

Rachel:

The weird thing about this book was like, it didn't feel it wasn't confusing. Even there was a lot of stuff going on. But usually with a book, there's like a main plot point, and you go up and up and up and up.

Margie:

Yes, yes. Yes. Like a roller coaster. Yeah, like Yeah,

Rachel:

this one had like, four plot points. Oh, I don't like that. Oh, like they all can use this word. I'm gonna giggle they all climax are different. It's the right word and

Margie:

my word for it. But hey, oh,

Rachel:

okay. Yeah, so they get this Mondays, but it's not that bad. And afterwards, they shorthands like, Okay. A raven rather brings to his attention. She's like, so, you know, you have a trader on the ship, right? And he's like, yeah. Hi, now. Oh, because someone had to let your day know where he was in the fog, right? Oh, also, we found him and I don't know where to shoot. Yeah, there's a trainer on board. So Jordan is going and like having sort of counsel with his head's on his, like, sailors and stuff, trying to figure out like, where's your dad hiding? We need to figure this out. And he asked Raven to look at the maps and stuff. And so he comes back. He's like, Do you have any idea where he might be interested? He's right here. He's like, what? Well, look, and it's like, sure, like outlines, like this is where he would be. And he's like, huh, yeah, I think you're right, that makes a lot of sense. Actually, there's no, and so she's like, this is what you need to do. You need to sneak around this side, it's a little bit more dangerous, but you're going to get to the advantage and like, surprise, and all this stuff. So like, this is what you need to do is like, yeah, that's a really good plan. That's what we're gonna do. So he just, totally. Um, so they are sneaking up under Dan's ship for the final. And again, really, like, I don't know, little over half with the book at this point. Oh, my God confused me because I'm like, we're about to, like, solve a very big book. And they are approaching and Jordan sees them earlier than he should have. Yeah, because some traders ignore them. Right. So they are preparing for battle and they're getting ready. And it I appreciated this because Bastian is like, rather than like, she washed up. She's like, Alright, I'm helping. And he's like, Okay, well, he's like, I can't tell her to just hide because she's obviously not going to Okay, can you how are you with a rifle and so he like stations her with like a rifle and sword and stuff. So when they board she's going to be picking off people and like, actually contribute something. I want you to do something. Yeah, right. So yeah, like, I appreciate.

Margie:

It's kind of also like, okay, rather than telling you to hide and then have you do something I'm not going to want you to do and get more danger. I'll just give you a task. Uh huh. And hopefully you will stay safer on that task than you were just going off on your own. Yeah, we'll see how that goes. Okay. That's the idea. That's the idea.

Rachel:

So she is ready to like support him but as she's going up to the spot where she's going to start essentially sniping people she notices that his right hand man is coming down from a place that he probably shouldn't didn't need to be and she's like I think he wait a minute and so she ends up following him yeah turns out poor bastions right hand man who he's trying to murder trader and no she's in the process of like firing cannons and like going to board Jordaens ship right and she's like, Fuck, yeah, this guy's a traitor. Like yeah, so he this guy ends up surprising her and getting her locked up in the brig. So she's in the break right now. Oh, she's like they're gonna try to kill bastard like yes, not cool. And Percy comes down and like, finds her Yeah, and has keys and so he could hunting her out. This person has been like,

Margie:

best friend forever.

Rachel:

Okay, the friendzone is a mess. It's not a thing. Yeah. You don't have a right to anybody. Right, Percy? is the ultimate friends. Oh, he's absolutely in love with.

Margie:

Is he okay with like, cuz

Rachel:

I want her to be happy.

Margie:

Okay. Oh,

Rachel:

sweet right

Margie:

get the right idea.

Rachel:

He's a good friend. And so he's like coming down he's like helping her get out and he's she's explaining to him what's going on. And they're going to leave and the dude who had come back trader just got off trader and come back to finish her off. And so he trader jumps down the thing turns around and fires his pistol and hits Percy, as he was going to kill Raven, and he's like that should have been you. And so they get into this really cool epic sword battle in the hole of a ship and she totally murders this guy. Yay. Right, Percy, unfortunately, oh, no, it's actually really sad. I think this is the first time we've experienced like, Yeah, real Daniel Duffy's books fix. It was kind of sad, actually. So at this point, Raven is like exhausted. She's super tired. She's been through all this. I still need to help like something's going on. And as she's going up to the top of the ship, she sees another person coming down to the bottom of the ship.

Unknown:

Oh, God,

Rachel:

this is the guy that they had been chasing back in Gibraltar. Who's your Danes right hand man. Okay, okay has snuck onto their ship while everyone was on Jordan ship fighting over there. Okay, and is going to set fire to the powderkeg Bastion ship?

Unknown:

Oh, no,

Rachel:

she's like, fuck that noise. So she chases after. At this point? Well, Bastion has been fighting for a day and he realizes what's going on he's like fuck and so he goes back to the ship and they both end up confronting this guy in the the bottom of his ship and killing him okay, and they totally destroys your damn ship. It goes down dream dies with it and by mastering has his revenge. Yay, still not done with the book?

Margie:

So does she explained to Bachan, Hey, your right hand man was

Rachel:

yes. Um, so they end up celebrating him finally getting his revenge. And at this point, like she's kind of come around to realize she's like, I really like him. Like, we've been together for like, a like, a couple weeks now. And like, I've known him for a while and I kind of really like him. I think he likes me. Oh, and he's finally like, Fuck, what do I do now? I really like her. I'm gonna ask if she wants to marry me.

Margie:

That's natural. That's like natural and organic. Sure, right.

Rachel:

Oh,

Margie:

it's short. But it's like back in those times right in the bin. Yeah, and he's but it's also like, your kid. naptr Yeah, so so

Rachel:

there's this little bit of a fling writer vibe. Not in that like the he is kind of actually he is very much a flint right now, but I think about it with just a little bit more sexual assault.

Margie:

Zero point. What is an ally flake?

Rachel:

We put Flint on a pedestal Yes, we

Margie:

love blood,

Rachel:

but I never mentioned he isn't our boy. Oh, this guy's our boys. Yeah, boy. It starts a little bit of a homeboy answers in our boy. Okay, um, but he Oh, because he's like, What do I do now? Well, I guess you're my next or your your boy. You're my new Dre. You're my new dream. But it turns into she's like, Yeah, I think I do want to marry you actually. That sounds great.

Margie:

Dad It's gonna be so pleased.

Rachel:

Yeah, so they celebrate with champagne and dinner and table sex. Do they get

Margie:

food involved now? Yeah,

Rachel:

it is great if it's yours great. Not so but afterwards. They are I wasn't interrupted because it was afterwards but they are confronted by some people on the ship or like hey, so ravens dead ship is on the horizon. Very good after yea Raven ends up having to choose because she's like I want to go with you. But you are not going to get away with this. So we could either run chased all over all over the world or I might be able to save you and you might not die and I'll go with my dad. So she chooses to try to do it. Fashions like alright, fine if that's that's your choice. That's fine. Locker my cabin she's not going to be part of these negotiations. And so they negotiate and ends up she ends up going with her dad. She has no idea about what the terms of the negotiations were no clue and everyone in the crew like as she's leaving is like giving her the biggest stink guy and also say goodbye to the crew because the last time you fucking see them ever I have no idea what happened to them at the end of the book. Oh, never come back. Oh, looting his lifelong servant that he's been friends with since he was six never seen I don't know why. So she's not gonna father ship completely confined to a cabin. like a totally unlike like,

Unknown:

so I'm out to your room.

Margie:

That kind of deal oldest she

Rachel:

20. Okay, yeah. Um, so, and she's like fighting with her father this whole time of like, I actually really liked him and he's a pirate, but he's not. But this is what happened, you know that whole thing, right. And after about 10 days, she sneak finally able to sneak out of a room and learns that veterans on the ship. He's in the brig. Because the only way for him to save his crew was to give himself up to be hanged. I know you're really, right. Yeah. So she's able to get out and talk to him. And she's like, Okay, I'll figure out a way to get you out. He's like, Yeah, probably not going to be able to I know you can in a lot of cases, probably not. In this case. It's actually really funny because the guard that he has, like fashion has in the break, is like she like threatens him of like, I swear to God, I'll cut your family jewels off if you don't let me talk to this dude. And by the end of it, and they're like, they fashion in this guard, like aren't really talking and by the end of it, like when they actually get to London where they're going. The guards like so she gave me this note. He's like, Thanks is like, is it an escape plan? Yeah, it's an escape plan. Like I made friends. He's like, yes, makes sense. You're gonna take care of her. Right? Yeah. Okay, great. Funny. So they end up there, they're transporting Bastian away to once they make it to London to get him on to behind, right. And she shows up and like, they basically like, attack this carriage that he's being transported in and helps him escape. When we learn as she's helping them escape that. Hey, so guess what I found out while you were in prison? Oh, no, that all of your family's still alive. And they're here in London.

Margie:

I thought you were gonna say she was pregnant.

Rachel:

So they're able to like track down his family, his brothers now the Duke and his living in

Margie:

London. So was it the type of thing where they didn't know the other person was alive? Yeah,

Rachel:

no. And he actually he said he has an older brother and a twin. Oh, he thought both of them were dead. Oh, wow. And his mother. So he thought all of them were dead. But they're all alive. They only know. So they're able to like they track them down in a ball and like crash this ball and show up and his brother's like, oh my god, I knew it. Like oh, and this is where we learned about Captain Cutlass.

Margie:

Okay, okay. Please tell me please tell me so.

Rachel:

So passion was the kind of candidate that love to play, make believe. And he's his only thing that he like, kept from his childhood was he's like, I'm going to take one liberty and I'm going to name myself what I had as a child.

Margie:

That's actually super cute.

Rachel:

Stupid name.

Margie:

But that is so cute. That's so Flynn Rider to

Rachel:

know, he is a very Flynn Rider kind of curious. Um, yeah. So they end up finding them and like, his brother is ungodly, Rich. So he's like, I'll take care of this. So they like he has like this whole happy family reunion and all this stuff. And ravens just like really awkward because she's in the middle of a battle dress like a man and let her in a ball dress battle now. And she's just sitting there. And she's like, it's actually kind of like, Hello real? Because she's really uncomfortable. And yes, because she's spent her whole life on a ship. Right? So she's sitting there just talking to herself. She's like, I can fire a cannon. I can do this. I can do this. Like, very awesome. I don't have to be judged by these people. Yeah. I get it. So they end up they end up at the deeps house. And like, fashions like, you know, their keys gonna be saved. Like, everything's gonna be great. And they get to get in one last time. One last night. Well, sexy, guys. And he wakes up in the morning and she's gone. Of course. You know? Because she's like, you know, you you have a twin you are a warm like Marquis. Like, yeah, you now have a life that you need to be part

Margie:

of. Right. So she ended up and I'm not part of

Rachel:

that exact Yes. Like I can especially with like the ball and I'm interesting. I can't be Yeah, yeah. So she leaves. And he's like, going to try to find her and the Duke is like, you can't leave like you. You are wanted for hanging. I have to make these negotiations work. Okay, you can't leave yet. And he's like, like, it's this whole like, Well, I'm gonna give you two days. Okay. Yeah, it's gonna thing. So after about a week, we see Raven on the ship. They're about to set sail again. And she's like, super upset, like, you know, for Lauren, like, crying or whatever. And she's like, you know, he never like even tried to talk to me afterwards. Just like screw just it's better if I leave and she's like, her dad comes up and they're kind of talking and they've never they've been close, but they're not super close. And he's like, Yeah, He makes you happy, doesn't he? And she's like, Yeah. And he's like, Well, good thing because it's really hard to to make it so easy for you to help him escape. She's like, What? They're supposed to be six guards. I kept four of them back. So there was only two.

Margie:

Good Yeah, no. Sadly wing man again, essentially. And

Rachel:

she's like, what? I mean, yeah, I don't like him, but still do. Yeah. Yeah. And he's like, well, so you know, I, I'm sorry, that really sucks. And you know, I did I did hire someone to take Perseus plays. And she's like, really upset about that. And she's like, you know, I knew it had to happen. Yeah, she turned around, and there's Bastian standing in like, a uniform, like a Navy uniform. And she's like, the fuck? And he's like, Well, I asked your dad's for your hand in marriage this morning. And he definitely said no. So I figured this was the next best bet. And dad's like, I mean, obviously, I'm gonna say no, but I wouldn't be that upset if you eloped and walked away.

Unknown:

Oh, my God.

Rachel:

So he, they ended up he asked her to marry her. Or marry him. She agrees. And they like get settled. Like, they like the they're gonna have a house like on land, so she's not gonna be sailing with her daddy Martin. He's like, Thank God, I can get out of this uniform. And her dad's like, Okay, fine. But, uh, you know, I expect to have grandkids by the time I come back. Again, essentially, yeah, so it's, you know, happily ever after, and they they're super happy together. And there's a little bit of an epilogue. So the epilogue is basically right in the middle of her giving birth to their first kid. Okay, like it just straight up says like, holy shit, this hurts. When it starts and you're like, Oh, okay. And so they end up having a little baby girl. And they so they have this kid. And like, everyone comes in to see it. Everything was like great. Good thing. The ship that we're having built is going to be done soon so we can finally leave all of the stupid land in society. So they basically decided to build a ship and sail the world so we don't have to deal with people. Honestly, same fare. Same Yeah, so that's it. That is the rogue pirates bride. It's a roller.

Margie:

He's not a pirate. He's not really that much of a rogue.

Rachel:

He's not he's a privateers Privateer, which is just legal piracy. Yeah. Yeah, he's definitely a rogue but a saucy kind of row got like a like Fabio style rogue. deep cut like God, it wasn't like that problematic.

Margie:

Not that like, like, powder dusting. Sugar test. Yeah.

Rachel:

Yep. Yeah, it was. It was okay. We're gonna get into review and rating and that kind of stuff. So I want to hear your thoughts first.

Margie:

Um, it was better than what I expected judging by the cover better than I expected.

Rachel:

And there was definitely some fun witty robotic, and I like turn

Margie:

him together. And I like their characters are fine. I liked her better than his Yeah, but I like definitely liked them together. I thought that they fish so bad. Yeah, they I felt like they made sense. You know what I mean? Like, right. So I think it was just like, it was fine. You know, it didn't surprise me like,

Rachel:

it was that like, it was fine. She's a total badass. Yeah, I enjoyed her. And neither of them like they both. So again, I was impressed with the accuracy of the history and like how well the author like, because all the history for myself is right as far as like timelines, and like references to things and all that stuff. But like, neither of them, they're super, they have developed backstories they're not like super in depth detail. backstories but they have pretty well developed backstory. They just I don't know why they came across just kind of vanilla to me, even though like they're fun and they're fun together. It just wasn't like, it was good. It wasn't Oh, they

Margie:

they didn't have anything that was like super didn't have any quirks or eccentrics about them that made them a little more unique or different. You know, like, not that we're kind of interesting, but like, at the same time, it was like it wasn't we've seen these characters before. And you know,

Rachel:

I enjoy it's one of those buckwild plots that you enjoy and it's ridiculousness, because it's like yeah, of course he's gonna fall for the dude that killed her fiance. Yeah, like Yeah, what

Margie:

Yeah, well, and I did like how that was done because like yes, technically he killed him, but it was like his hand was forced him right so it does because he sure that I'm happy I was about I didn't like that at all. I still have a little bit of problem with it. Because I don't think like, but that's my own personal thing. Like, I think that if somebody had killed my fiancee, right, and even if even if I didn't want revenge, I certainly wouldn't go and fall in love with that person, right?

Rachel:

No, it was it was. Man, it was a ride. Yeah, it was an adventure. Yeah, I don't understand all of the different like, again, it wasn't that confusing, but it was very like, then this happened. And then it was resolved. And then this happened. And then it was like, we use a roller coaster up and down and up and down.

Margie:

Yeah, it was kind of like the author had two stories combined into one.

Rachel:

Now, I will also say this, this falls into, I think, a very common trope with romance novels where it's the whole like, this was a third one and a quote unquote, series. But really all that series is is just different couples that are tangentially related. Yeah, so Oh, yeah. Technically, it's the third one in a quote unquote,

Margie:

series. But like, you can read them independently. Yeah, yeah. It's

Rachel:

such an odd thing. I kind of like it because you universe

Margie:

just it gets expanded basically. So if you like the book, you can like go and write like with John Doe, and all of that. We love

Unknown:

all of that. Love them.

Rachel:

I just wouldn't necessarily call it a series like it's, yeah, not technically a series. It's like a, I don't know. It's all in the same universe. Well, it's

Margie:

like, I mean, it's exactly the same thing as the dark Islander. Yeah, like you don't. You don't have to read them all. You have to read the first one to get the rest of it. You know, I was

Rachel:

just really impressed with something like that came out of 2012. Yes.

Margie:

Like, like cover came out.

Rachel:

Like that level of like, at style plot and rightness. Yeah, but actually implemented kind of, well,

Margie:

yeah. Yeah. It's like, wait, I keep referencing the bodice tipplers book. So you guys are gonna have to listen to that. But it really is like what Fabio should have been.

Rachel:

Oh, God. Oh, god. No, that man should never exist. Sorry, I shouldn't say Fabio should never exist. The character he is betraying the book.

Margie:

Should the character that Incorta quote created? Because Lord

Rachel:

that one? Um, yeah. So

Margie:

you want to get some rating? Yeah. Numbered ratings?

Rachel:

Oh, no, it was pretty good. Like, I actually like, you didn't hate yourself. I hate myself for rating it there. And maybe I Okay, so I'm gonna preface this by saying I think that some of my ratings are going to be colored by the book that we're reading for this other one? Because yeah, so bad.

Margie:

Yes, yes. Yes, yes. But honestly, like,

Rachel:

like for characters and plot, I might just say four across the board, maybe three and a half on the plot. Okay, three, three and a half on the plot. But like, I see that she was pretty badass. Annoying, sometimes. But pretty badass. She thinks of herself in a lot of cases. But really badass. And then he was like, very Flynn writer. Yes. The first that initially, I was like, okay, but she obviously like don't, guys, if someone

Unknown:

wants tea, we love this analogy.

Rachel:

You don't shove tea in their face. You ask them if they want. If they say yes, you hand them tea? And if they say no, you don't give them tea. And if

Margie:

they only want half of the tea, then force them to drink the rest of the tea. Yes,

Rachel:

no, it's not a thing.

Margie:

So what you do,

Rachel:

I did, I did very much have a problem with that initially. And that that honestly, like,

Margie:

that's well, and we're also again, we're very jaded right now because it's true. But it

Rachel:

surprised me because it started out like that. And I had this kind of view of how this was gonna go in my head and then it got better. So it like started out at kind of that low point of pattern sugar dusting of sexual assault. And then by the end of it, it's like, okay, obviously, he's grown as a person. And obviously they both care for each other. Like it grew that left show development. Okay. Still didn't start out great, though. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. But oh, no, I would say like so for for Bastian and Raven. Fortify for them. Three, three and a half out of five for the plot, because just so many ups and downs.

Margie:

Yeah, it was good. And it was fine. Like, it's not the most amazing plot, but it was fine. Like you weren't, you weren't bored. It was

Rachel:

it was a solid plot. Maybe a little bit better than average, but just a solid plot. Over and all overall I'd say like, a scale of one to 10 I get this book like a six. Okay, better than just kind of like it was a solid book. It was a good book. It wasn't amazing. And it wasn't awful. It was just slightly better than average. And you know, if you get if you get the chance, maybe get it from the library. Yeah, don't really go out and buy it. Yeah, don't you know, don't go out of your way but it's not bad. He has a pretty good one if you're interested in just like a fun like, kind of if pirates are your thing. Yeah, go for it. Go for it. Yeah. If you're interested in a fun over the top kind of historical fiction type deal this will be a fun one. But don't go out of your way to buy it. Don't spend money on this. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It was pretty good. Good and so ridiculous. It was so extra. So goddamn extra and you still never never ever hear about what happens to the rest of his crew assume that they're fine his lifelong servant they just never see them again. You're just gone we're

Margie:

gonna assume that they're fine because he didn't negotiate for them.

Rachel:

He was super like, you never even see is like dude like the old dude that was like I helped you escape when you were six like you expectedly see him again right yeah know what happened? Yeah, nothing nothing and this is the last one so that you're never gonna find out. That's sad. Just gone. Oh. So weird.

Margie:

So Rachel, when you have been reading this this this pirate rogue whatever. What have you been reading

Rachel:

the book for Bata samplers? Oh, and that's right early it?

Margie:

Yeah. That's yeah. And we both put it off until the last minute. Well, I can't believe that I finished it first. Because I was like, I'm sure I'm gonna be last and like, no, no,

Rachel:

no. Was that Yeah, but honestly, I've just been really busy lately. So yeah, my life has been taken up with too. High now. I've been lame, guys. That's okay. But on a mildly related note, our websites getting an update. And it looks freakin Great. Rachel is building any website. Yeah. So keep in mind, and if for some reason that there's anything like weird and buggy with the old one. It's going to be update. Yeah, that's good. That's why Yeah, and it will be gone. Progress. Yes. For sure. Yes. Yeah. So So do we have any other like news or business? Oh, I

Margie:

can't think of anything right now. We're still working on that live show. And that's really

Unknown:
