Margie:

Hello, and welcome to textual tension, a love hate relationship with romance novels podcast. I am your co host, Margie, and I'm your co host Rachel. Every other week one of us reads a romance novel and then summarizes it for unsuspecting co hosts this week. It's Rachel. Woo. And together we will

Unknown:

unpack what the fuck just happened.

Margie:

Hey, so we have

Rachel:

an extra voice today y'all. You said the thing I'm so proud of you, a student beautiful listeners. We are joined today by one of my very best friends that just happens to be in town so I said Why the fuck not? You should come hang out with us. Alexa Fisher so if you want to go ahead and talk about your stuff, cuz you're doing a Dayton thing too.

Unknown:

I am I'm going to shamelessly plug my podcast do it. I am a writer and producer with Dayton writers movement. Our current audio drama is the hidden people. As of recording, we just released episode number eight which was written by yours truly. Episode number two for me. We are a sort of mystery, suspense drama going on audio

Rachel:

drama kind of very different

Unknown:

from this. Yeah.

Margie:

I think we're Trey suspenseful.

Unknown:

I'm not reading a script right now. So like I'm kind of sort of like going off the cuff right now which is one I'm on the other side of the microphone normally and to like. And I normally I have like the one time where I did ever say anything. I'm credited in one episode for speaking. By standard I wasn't I was an angry pedestrian pedestrian pedestrian that was written down. Like I knew what was saying beforehand. Everything right here is just

Rachel:

improv baby. It's terrifying. You're doing great. conversation. Yeah, so

Unknown:

I'm writer and producer with Dayton writers movement. shamelessly plug we are the hidden people podcast.com For our website. Facebook is hidden people podcast, Twitter is dw M for Dayton writers move it presents. And Instagram is also DW presents. So come follow us hang out with us and listen to the drama and mystery of the people

Rachel:

and maybe maybe maybe maybe eventually down the line. Lexi might be working with us on something. So there's your plug for a long time from now. It's fine. Cool. All right. Well, thank you so much.

Unknown:

All right, shamelessly plug. Yeah.

Rachel:

I love you. You're wonderful.

Margie:

I think you're gonna regret saying that. But you know, whatever.

Rachel:

Her the only. So this was kind of a an impromptu thing. Because again, you just happen to be Alexa just happened to be in town this weekend. And I was excited because, you know,

Unknown:

it just kind of worked out. Um,

Margie:

we have a lot of collaborations coming up. So we really excited just awesome.

Rachel:

But usually we try to pick a book that sort of catered to the person we're collaborating with.

Margie:

Oh, yeah. Talk about three weeks

Rachel:

from now. But this one's gonna be from what I hear is so wholesome, though, is it not though?

Margie:

So now I need to tell you what happened. To tirely unwholesome

Rachel:

wholesome person you're not gonna ruin my beautiful baby, are you? Oh, yeah, I'll do bitch like

Unknown:

I said it with love. It was a wholesome

Margie:

Okay, so what I have to tell you what happened. So the other night I was did you

Rachel:

read this in like a night and decide you're doing it instead?

Margie:

Shut up. Alright. So the other night I was opening a bottle of wine as you do as you do with a corkscrew all you know all that good stuff. I thought I needed a lot more forcefully did bottom line I pulled it out too hard a bat whacked will you be I have lucky I still have an eye but now I have a cut. So I was very upset. And it really hurt and I actually did see stars. Just like describe books, but I had never experienced before. And but that was like a no doubt this bottle of wine. Just because No, don't be that I'm like a little annoyed at myself a little depressed. So uh, hi, Google Turk hero romance novels. And here we are.

Rachel:

Yes. Dark.

Margie:

Dangerous. Our good friend Degas. Oh, no. Let's go out of the water.

Unknown:

I'm not just I'm not just like here for a guest stick guys. I'm an avid listener. longtime listener first time guests. So Oh god, I listen this episode. Oh dear.

Margie:

So now let's see

Rachel:

if you'd like us to be talking still Scottish?

Margie:

Yes. Oh hell yeah. Which which Oh, but that's not a huge part of the um, and I will say this like I liked the plot.

Unknown:

Do I have a science corner? You didn't

Rachel:

All right, how'd you handle?

Margie:

I hope you like the color yellow.

Rachel:

Oh, good

Unknown:

God. Whoa, buddy. That is that is dandelions and sunshine and that is Oh my god. Okay, it's all one word. That's a long word

Rachel:

it's alright guys. It's the first in a new series.

Unknown:

It is the highly men all one word like that is one word. All right,

Rachel:

is she safe in the hands of the most dangerous man alive? That's a bold claim. I reserve judgment until the end of this book to know whether he is the most dangerous dangerous I would say that the author's name is definitely bigger than the

Unknown:

title maybe about like one font size

Rachel:

yeah like one font that I don't like ridiculous

Unknown:

where it's like you think the author's name is the title name because you can't see what the title Yeah, you know, I've

Rachel:

seen that so Okay, okay, let's let's describe what we're seeing here. So there is a shirtless man.

Unknown:

He does have pants on though he doesn't pants but

Rachel:

the full booty Booty just a little bit of booty. Very well muscled

Unknown:

summers back. Boy just butterfly swimmer

Rachel:

laying on top of and I'm surprised not crushing a woman in a very yellow dress with very yellow hair looking very sensual at him with sensually with their lips just ever so slightly brushing. Their eyes

Margie:

are closed. Czar

Rachel:

his or barely open. So

Margie:

the thing that got

Rachel:

that five o'clock shadow of it.

Unknown:

You know, I kind of dig her hand in his hair. Because that's like the back of the head. That's what I do is like stay back there. That's good hair is

Margie:

so I will say this about the cover. It makes almost no sense whatsoever considering the characters in this novel.

Rachel:

Now are you telling me that Suzanne ANAx description by the way, she's a New York Times bestselling author of capture me from page one and never let go romantic, lush and suspenseful might not be 100% accurate. Are you just saying that that shade of yellow is just against God and

Margie:

the position that they are in really doesn't make sense with the plot. Alright, I'll get into why but the thing about it was the girl and that kind of reminds me of the girl who's starring in that a Discovery of Witches. Yeah, which

Rachel:

by the way, that book is awesome.

Margie:

I actually just got it from the library. Oh, good.

Rachel:

Um, so the vibe that I get from her face is she looks like the Frank Frazetta style art cover like cover artwork for like 1980s romance novels where it's like painted like in like oil painting type deal. Yeah. But in real life.

Margie:

Well, it's also just a no homage to the color yellow guy is

Rachel:

yellow. This is if this were an art piece, it would be called sexy

Margie:

and yellow. Okay, all right, read. Also

Rachel:

fair warning.

Margie:

Bitsy is here. And she's right next to my mic. Always.

Rachel:

Hi, Debbie. We're recording in a different room today because we have more people and she has free rein. Alright. Would you like to read it? Or do you want me to Oh, should I get to read it? You get to read it. Guys.

Unknown:

Excuse me. My sensual voice. Do I have one? Oh, baby. All right. mental image of sensual things. No, I'm just I'm just seeing puppies and funny things. That's fine. book description. Is there rebels scoundrels and black guards dark, dashing men on the wrong side of the law. But for the women who love them, a hint of danger only makes the heartbeat faster. Stealing beauty Dorian Blackwell. The black hearts of Ben Moore is a ruthless villain, scarred and hard hearted door. Rachel's over here, just like

Rachel:

Bumblebee. He's real black in the covers with a yellow

Unknown:

scarred and hardhearted Dorian is one of London's wealthiest because of course he's one of the most influential men who has stopped at nothing to wreak vengeance on those who've wronged him and will fight to the death to seize what he was. Once all right, I mean you're probably not wrong. The lovely still innocent because of course she is. Widow fit Wait, widow, how can she still be innocent if she's a widow? You know what?

Rachel:

Innocence and virginity are the same thing.

Unknown:

It's a romance novel. That's definitely the code word. That's fair. All right, the oxymoronic widow Farah lay Mackenzie is no exception. And soon Doreen with the beautiful laughs away to a sanctuary in the wild Highlands. courting desire, but fair is no one's puppet. She possesses a powerful secret one that threatens her very like, we being held captive.

Margie:

When is this set? Like Victorian England? Okay, so

Rachel:

it's not like modern. It's not my 1860s Oh, Christ. Okay, sorry. Sorry.

Unknown:

All right. All right, so I was worried. When being held captive by Dorian proves to be the only way to keep Pharisee from those who would see her dead debatable. Door and mixed era a scandalous proposition, marry him for protection in exchange for using her secret to help him exact revenge on his enemies. But what the black heart of benmore never could have imagined is that Farah has terms of her own igniting attempt to its desire that consumes them both. Could it be that the woman he captured is the only one who can touch the black heart he long thought did because his name

Rachel:

is black. So that's it, guys. Thank you so much. We know everything we need to

Margie:

know actually yet. There's so much more Rachel. There's so much more

Rachel:

was something that was amazing.

Margie:

Oh my god, guys ready? The triggers? The triggers are a child sexual abuse. Great. Which it doesn't. Yeah, it's like, right. It's not great. It's like that type of thing. Where it's like a powder sugar dusting those good.

Unknown:

Or is it minor?

Margie:

Child Child? Damn it. Yeah. Seriously? Series.

Rachel:

Ah, okay. Yeah,

Margie:

it froze. Yeah, yeah. So um, so and then there's some sexual assault but not between the leads. Okay. Yeah. Reference it's referenced in the book. So sugar dust, our characters our leaves, fairly. Mackenzie is a clerk for Scotland Yard a 28 year old blonde widow with blue gray eyes. Gorgeous. Lovely Of course.

Rachel:

Are you taking my format? I am a little bit yes. Makes me happy.

Margie:

Well, you do a really good job. Whereas mine I'm just like you're all the things that happen are off the wall. So Dorian Blackwell is a complete scoundrel. Basically, he's a king of crime in Victorian London. He was once a highway man but now has moved on to blackmail bribery, murder, murder, etc to get whatever he wants out of this

Rachel:

what a bad boy is that? Boy is

Unknown:

that all not included being a highway man or does he like socialized now he's like PhD, or did his dissertation murder

Margie:

started as a highway man and that he just expanded pretty much like a small business to the to a large corporation. So diversified, diversified? Exactly.

Rachel:

That's a business right?

Margie:

He's really wealthy, extremely influential. He kind of has a Robin Hood type legend aura around him in London. A lot of the people that he's killed have actually been really bad people. And that's why you know, I mean, though, as

Rachel:

long as they did something bad in their life that makes murder Okay, right. Yeah, exactly. I

Unknown:

jaywalked once guys.

Margie:

No, oh no, I

Unknown:

do not wait for that hand change from blinking red to white walking person.

Margie:

He has dark hair one blue eye that it can't see very well out of that has a scar through it. And one golden eye.

Unknown:

That's a James Bond thing and net Golden Eye

Margie:

Goldeneye is yes. It's a romance novel trope. It's general I

Rachel:

like Trump and but like your I can get milky. I don't think it just straight up changes color. It doesn't if you

Unknown:

weren't supposed to lethal radiation. It does it that's

Margie:

not what happened. Now a superhero was he got into a fight and you got like slash to the guy so as scarring starts up here and then goes like down to his nose. she gestured from

Rachel:

her forehead to her nose. Oh, sorry for your media.

Margie:

So sometimes he wears an eyepatch. It always dresses a dark colors of course a routing if you Oh my god. You were to listen to the elevator music and his brain you would just hear WAKE ME UP INSIDE just over and over and over again. Okay, so we had to replace this character because he's still an important part of the plot. Duggan Mackenzie so Dukan Mackenzie is another character he's deceased but he's still central character as he effected both fairly

Rachel:

and breed. Zombie that's what he

Margie:

he was a he was an orphan who was in love with Farah and best friends with Dorian before he died. And so he kind of like links these two characters together. Okay, like his last

Unknown:

name is Mackenzie though. Yeah. So what is he pharaohs, you'll see. Alright.

Margie:

We're gonna step it back. It's really the beginning is super cute. Okay, getting super. All right. All right. Okay, so the story starts out by introducing Dougie Mackenzie, who has just had his poems whipped by a nun in an orphan orphanage and they're like, bloody they're so good, really bad. He's sitting outside crying and trying to be tough when fear comes up to him and wraps up his wounds and tells them stories of her father who was an earl during the War of Crimea, and it fought and battles and like it's trying to distract him. And it's been exposition bomb. Nice. Yeah. And so he's 11. And she's, or he's, yeah, I think he's 10 or 11. And she's eight. Okay, so Farah, and do good. Both live in this horrible orphanage. Um, he's,

Unknown:

he's a nice orphanage.

Margie:

No, it's not a nice.

Unknown:

Is there ever one like in media? Is there ever a nice

Margie:

one? No, not Victorian a good like there's

Unknown:

never been like a story of a nice orphanage. Children are happy like

Margie:

I think the only good thing about it is that it's not a workhouse so

Unknown:

also not children's slaves. Okay, that was a was a trigger warning because it's no child.

Margie:

Child slavery. So do give is the bastard child of the, the McKenzie clan like Laird lard, I don't know and whose mother was killed was murdered and she was basically put in the orphanage because his dad in frickin one because he's a bastard. Farah is the daughter of an Earl and her parents and sister both passed away from colera. She's due to marry a man who has hers who was her father's age. And once she's old enough, and the man Warrington has dropped her off at the orphanage to basically grow up until she's ready to get married to him.

Rachel:

Oh, good. Yeah. All right, fantastic. Looking at I'm posting an Instagram thing.

Margie:

Okay, okay.

Rachel:

I'm looking at Colorado Galera cholera, cholera.

Margie:

I thought it was like cholera. Cholera. Is that not what I said? Heard Clara. Okay, call I could be wrong, bad. Cholera, cholera. So I wasn't here was a different basically Doogan and Farah become really close to the orphanage like they kind of wink wink. No, I mean, she's a people are children. They are children. Your first kiss.

Rachel:

I'm just saying I was 16. And it was my current husband.

Margie:

Oh, I was I think 11 or 12. But I didn't really get Tong until I got

Rachel:

my current husband.

Unknown:

Your first house? My first? Yes.

Margie:

So they become really really closers. It's really cute. Seems were like she said something along the lines of like, well, nobody else is here to love you. So I'm gonna do it for you.

Unknown:

That's some Negan girl and she's

Margie:

like, Ah, she's been cute. It's Yes. Yes, she is. I swear she's okay. All right.

Rachel:

All right. Yeah. All right.

Margie:

I really like sure I got your back. Love. You, too, are all good, right? And they look out for each other. And then generally, they're being like family to one another. The data so they also so there's one scene where do you begin finds out that fair is due to marry this other loser? And he's like, nope. So she's at this point. 10. He's 14. And they they go and quote unquote, get married. It's like very West Side Story. Yeah, okay. Yeah. Okay. They don't do it with a priest or anything. They basically just like, hey, love you love you back.

Unknown:

Okay, yeah.

Rachel:

Yeah. All right.

Unknown:

I'm trying to imagine myself being 14 and looking at a 10 year old and be like, yeah, it's not

Margie:

scribed as like, creepy or sexual. It's more just kind of like,

Rachel:

still like, I

Unknown:

wouldn't want anything to do with someone who's like four years younger than me at that age.

Margie:

Well, I'll tell you, he does so he sees like 1314 and she's 10. So um, he calls for his fairy. Berra fairy, right? Yeah. Which is an important part of the plot. Sorry,

Unknown:

fairies fairy, baby. Is

Rachel:

that called me a fairy? Probably just like titty Twister. No.

Margie:

Okay, so one night, actually, I think it was like the night after their quote unquote wedding Purple Nurple wakes up to find Ferris sliding into his bed and she's like freaking out and he's like, What the frick is wrong? And Farah tells Dougan that one of the priests in the orb orphanage had tried to molest her getting off to a great He's a priest

Rachel:

was about to make a real backhanded shady Catholicism joke but I'm not going

Margie:

to try fighting against that listener.

Unknown:

Insert your own joke here. Yeah.

Rachel:

Two of the three now you're thinking it well, one version in this room is Catholic one used to be Catholic and I'm not so you know, whatever, it's fine.

Margie:

I mean no, okay, we're gonna get into that so do get in her attempt to run away from the orphanage, but they're caught by the police and a complete bitch of a nun. So long story short, do you didn't stabs and kills the priest at 13 years old? Metal is fun. Yeah, yeah. So do can get sent to prison and sentenced for like, at least seven years, I think of hard labor fair actually does manage to escape from the orange orphanage and follows him to where his prison is.

Unknown:

I'm gonna call it now. Seven years in prison, like he's gonna come up 21 and hot. Well,

Margie:

so she leaves breaded cheese Ferb every fucking night and was present for seven years with a letter for him. Just to know like, Hey, I'm out here. Like, you know, things gonna be good. Doing in this interim? She is working for someone who's in the McKenzie clan, like a grocer who's in the mcheza Clan, okay, all right, are under their way. And so that's how she gets the bread and cheese. So no ciphers yet. No surplus yet syphilis wasn't covered until the very end. Okay, so she kind of like gets adopted by them, which is really cute. She has this really interesting battle. Okay. All right. And so, however, she goes to the prison one day and she finds out that he has died of tuberculosis. So now her husband and that husband is dead, and she really has nothing to keep her where she is.

Unknown:

This is what happens when you don't vaccinate your kid freeze and die in prison.

Rachel:

That's what really happens they don't get sick and die but like, well, I guess he did. But you know, yeah, but there's there's extra steps

Unknown:

do you like watching porn? But do you only watching for certain scenes? Do you ever wonder what happens in between those scenes? That's where we come in. Hello. I am Jack five acres. I am the host of porno plots with my lovely friends. Margie:

So from there she moves to London and takes up a job as a maid in Scotland Yard. Like you know, cleaning person or whatever. And eventually she becomes a clerk there because someone sees like, Hey, you're like good at reading or writing you should help us okay, cool. And go in and go Well, actually, so she considers herself and in that time, she considers herself a widow. Mackenzie actually a widow

Unknown:

she is innocent. She's a little oxymoron. All right. All right. You

Rachel:

got it. Hold it

Margie:

she's she consider i i personally think she does have more out of personal protection because as a widow, she gets more freedom in society that she would it's just like a single woman.

Rachel:

That's a fair and I actually kind of like that. Yeah, that's kind of neat. She's thinking

Margie:

she takes on his name for another reason that will be revealed later but he doesn't want her name so right Jolene is fairly Townsend. Okay, so she takes on the name of fairly Mackenzie for her own personal production. Yeah. Okay. So in the book we from when she says we're going to jump from when she loses Dugan. So the cat when I say loses, do that, I mean, like he stabs the price. Okay, right. So we jumped to 17 years later. Cool. So it's been a long time. She's

Rachel:

10 years after she found out he got

Margie:

killed instead. So overall, she's happy if lonely. She goes to work and so the day that's described her first kind of day that we get with her, she goes into the work in the midst of a mob as Dorian Blackwell has been arrested and the city is not happy. Yes, gasp her boss Carlson morally is quote unquote interrogating Dorian about kinky murders of guards that had occurred recently. So basically, morally morally beating the shit out of Blackwell with Blackwell chained to a chair.

Unknown:

Fanning herself listeners

Margie:

Sue Morley more Has Farrah come in because she's going to kind of transcribe what's going on like the conversation that these do have if they're even as well because you know Blackwell's getting the shit beaten out of him

Rachel:

please please please please please please please please please she described how hot he is immediately well he's chained to a chair getting

Margie:

no she's actually afraid of him okay afraid of him like she describes him as listener see two episodes

Unknown:

ago

Rachel:

yeah and let's let's compare great good

Margie:

good for yeah she's definitely more afraid of him then then around Okay good. Morley mentions Ferris full name first he says Mrs. Mackenzie and then during the interaction and then afterwards so he Blackwell says something really off color about Farah and so basically her boss is like, Get out here like, I'm just gonna be patient. This guy I'm not worried anymore. I'm just gonna do it as you like it. Yeah. And so she says like, Are you sure you want me to go? And her boss morally is like yeah, Farah just get out of here. And so that just like you can kind of tell like Dorian is very

Rachel:

I know her name. Yeah, I know

Margie:

who they have now like there's there's something going on. So um, Blackwell gets out of prison three nights later, and he immediately starts bribing inspectors of Scotland Yard for more info about Farah

Rachel:

creepy judgey face I love Lexi's judgy phase Yeah,

Margie:

so

Unknown:

hey listen are arrested in get the shit beat out of you by police. This is not what you do after

Rachel:

thing is not the logical next step.

Margie:

No. So one night Farah is out with Carlton Morley her boss and the good theater. They have a lovely night. He's very sweet, charming and handsome. And at the end of the night in front of her door he asked her to marry him

Rachel:

that's a jump. They kiss

Margie:

they've been going out for a while okay, like a long while so like that was one thing that um, Blackwell found out about Farah when he was started asking around is that she's going out with Carlton and he's like, not cool. And yeah,

Unknown:

like the little the The Fresh Prince of Bel Air Carlton. do that is to my matching. romanced by ladies and gentlemen

Margie:

ever. So Carlton, and fair kiss. It's nice. She's like, Cool, good. Yes. And she says she's think she's gonna think about it, because she's just not sure she's she's pretty happy with being a widow because she's got freedom. independence, independence. Yeah. And if I don't, even if I don't have a family, at least I'm independent. So that's what she really wants us. She wants a family. They always do, which is fine. Well, that's your jam. That's cool. She's never had one that's very chaotic, because your parents died when she was four. Right? So, but when she gets it back into our apartment, she's still thinking about Dougan because she can do it. And we're like, we're always gonna be together. Whatever stupid. She walks in love is dumb. Love is dumb. She walks into our apartment, it's dark, and so she doesn't notice Blackwell brooding of the quarter.

Unknown:

Listeners is also not something you do breaking and praying and brooding. BNB

Margie:

or the other to marry and be

Rachel:

no bad.

Margie:

She doesn't notice the other two men in her apartment who are basically close again. So I'm assuming they chloroform her but it's never described. There's just this like really? Thanks.

Rachel:

Okay, do you have no you have two science people in this room right now? Oh, yeah. He's a biologist.

Unknown:

Like we've everything covered. Really idea. I did biology, chemistry, anatomy. We got that we got the soft squishy sciences. We got the hard select the sciences. And that's me.

Rachel:

I think that we've touched on this once before, but I'll just reiterate. And we'll say get the point across to both of us. Yeah, that is not how chloroform works. Yeah, just know,

Margie:

I will say this. It's not they don't describe like a hand going over her. Her. Or you know, I mean, like a glove going over or anything like that. She kind of just like what? I'll read it.

Rachel:

Maybe her delicate sensibilities are just shocked so much if she becomes hysterical and passes out various

Margie:

screens crowded. Theater is my dear, preventing their escape as she grew up behind her for the fire poker to her shock and despair to other large forms melted from the shadows and advanced from either side, pincer movement. I hope you enjoyed that kiss Mrs. Mackenzie Doria Blackwell licked his finger and pinched the flame of our candle plunging them back into darkness for it shall be your last and then late just and seen as she wakes up drugs and very confused on a train heading to Scotland

Rachel:

that first of all, didn't know was no one can cerned about an unconscious woman being put on a train, right?

Margie:

He does have a private car. So

Unknown:

whatever if you're wealthy enough you can get away with anything. Yeah, like all right, I have a lot of news that has taught me yeah, if you're wealthy enough you can get away with anything.

Rachel:

All right, hang on. I'm gonna show you how sexy looking a finger to put out a candle can be

Unknown:

around the problem is here, that would definitely be like it's okay, so you can drug me and take me somewhere against my will because that was attractive.

Rachel:

For me, it's not it's not it's not I'm gonna wake up like on a train to Scotland. Not even gonna be there.

Margie:

No, this dude is gonna be apparently.

Rachel:

I mean, it's a hot yeah. Oh, no, he's wealthy. That doesn't matter. I am vapid. So that was also sarcasm listeners. No, I'm actually not that bad.

Margie:

I'm actually vapid. Um, I'm assuming I don't know what they do to her. But she's like asleep on the train. She can't really wake up like, every once in a while she'll like wake up and hear somebody hear Dorian and they just punch her in the face. That's also not how it works. They also think okay, dosing her with something and they're passing a flask back and forth. So I don't know what they could make her drink, though. Whether they could force her to drink. So she wakes up the next morning and get some answers from Dorian on why the fuck she's in a castle in Scotland. Dorian explained to her that he knew Dougie Mackenzie while while they were in prison together and they became best friends.

Rachel:

And then he has the half of a heart necklace around and the other and they're just best

Margie:

buried with it so prison was horrible and the only way they survived was through helping each other during explains the things that were done to him and it is extremely messed up that's where the sexual assault comes. All right cool. Isn't guards and stuff like that? He was beaten like all the time, all that stuff. But Dukan always talked about Farah and she really was a light in the tunnel for himself and for Dorian and all the other guys who are in prison. So this friends but do you can died and he had asked Dorian and all the prison friends to make sure that Farah was kept safe and all right once I got

Rachel:

out, you know how I keep my best friend's love interest safe by dragging her and taking her to Scotland.

Margie:

Right. Why that translated to kidnap I wrote down a note that said we'll get to that in a bit. However, there really is no reason why because reasons because reasons right? And so Dorian and Ferris first conversation covers what happened to do them while they're standing in Dorian study, basically, Dorian tells Farah that Dukan was actually beaten to death by cars.

Unknown:

What happens when you don't vaccinate?

Rachel:

Reason guys.

Margie:

Oh my god, I love you, Alexa. So she runs out of his library, like completely devastated to find to find that out because she thought that yeah, who died of tuberculosis?

Unknown:

Like clearly, dying of tuberculosis is not much better than getting beaten.

Margie:

No, but I, I, you know, violence against someone that she loved and cared for would be pretty, you know, hard to hear about. It's both horrible. They're both horrible. But you know, so the next conversation covers wide Dory and actually wanted her because she ran out and got all upset, you know, in order to keep her from moving away from another conversation. He has this conversation while she's in the bath. Sure. Whatever.

Unknown:

Like, is he like, is he like sitting outside the door? Like, you know, he's like, in the

Rachel:

back? No, no, hang on. Hang on. I've been, I've been in this situation, almost exactly. When I have to take a shift. And I'm sitting on the toilet. I have cats. And my beautiful fluffy boy Carlos will always come in invariably and just start rubbing all over my legs because he needs my attention because he knows I'm a captive audience. It's basically the same thing

Margie:

I used described as a jaguar. So yeah. Okay, if you think Carlos

Rachel:

is a Jaguar, he is not that life and fearsome

Margie:

teacher. Dorian tells her Okay, listen, I know exactly who you are. And she's like, What are you talking about? And, and he's like, you're the heiress of a fortune from the Earl of north north, north North Hill, North walk, just gonna say North walk. I don't think that's actually how it's pronounced. There's like, that's not true. The Eris was about a month ago, she had amnesia, and Jordans, like not true. And I know and you know it, you're the heiress, so he's, he's like, I want to be an earl. So here's what's gonna go down, you're gonna marry me. And she's like, what? And he's like, if I if I marry you and become the IRL. I can pretty much like great laws and exact revenge on people who kill do get through the prison system basically like he wants more power, and he wants to get away with a lot more shit.

Rachel:

I mean, at least he's blunt about it. Yeah. Yeah. I'm like, see, you have a very pensive look on your face. What are you thinking? Like?

Unknown:

Like, revenge stories are kind of like, yeah, for me. So I'm kind of curious on this, like, I'm trying to like write his revenge like his breezing mentally,

Rachel:

I mean, like, solid race.

Margie:

It's a solid reason, but I'm like, How much do you think?

Unknown:

Is this like, counted money? Chris? Yes. It's described that way in the book. Okay. That's a bit over done. Yeah. So

Margie:

she also finds finds out that Warrington, the guy who her parents betrothed her to or when she was like seven, who's like really gross and old, had wanted fair, a dead because he had married a woman who claimed to be the heiress and now apparently wasn't because Pharaoh's right over here, you know, working at Scotland Yard. So Warrington wanted the real fair dead in case she decided to stake her claim to the fortune that was owed her. So FERS dead. She can't claim the fortune right? Yeah, to come back and say like, no, actually, I'm fair. Townsend.

Rachel:

I mean, but what are they gonna do? It's not like they have DNA testing. There were

Margie:

I mean, that's how I felt too, but they do eventually prove it. So they do it in a pretty like, legitimate way. All right. So Dorian strikes a deal fair. He says I'll help you get your title unfortunate back. So you'll be free. You can do whatever you want. But only if you marry me. And he wants to retire. Like I said he wants her title in the scene. partland Fair catches that with fine, I'll marry you, but only if you give me a baby. Because she wants a family it's a bargaining

Unknown:

chip. Like you were from the UK. You you lived in an orphanage? Homegirl there are so many children out there who need families that you don't have to like, you know, do it the old fashioned way. You could do it the you know, pick and choose go shopping kinda. I don't

Margie:

probably was like going shopping.

Rachel:

Yeah. She can she could be wealthy. She could afford as many orphans. Like,

Unknown:

would it be her baby wouldn't be her orphan.

Rachel:

Yeah, I think we established this right off the bat. Is he an our boy or a homeboy?

Margie:

See struggle Okay. Getting I call him a homeboy. He moves kind of towards the

Rachel:

boy. The home our boy, homeboy, our boy spectrum is just that it's a spectrum.

Margie:

Yeah, so. And Dorian does not take that proposition. While he turns on Dorian hates to be touched, like because of all the horrible things that happened to him. While he was in prison. He just hates to be touched by anyone. I mean, okay. Some people don't like to be touched. Yeah. So he refuses her offer to which she tells him Fine, let's get married. But I'm taking a lover and I am getting pregnant. And

Unknown:

you know what, I take it back. That is I'm alright with that.

Margie:

But he takes that right worse, which is so stupid, because it's like, what's the dude? You're gonna marry me, but you're not gonna have sex with me? And obviously,

Rachel:

you're not magically in love with me? Because

Unknown:

that's how you get it an old.

Margie:

Right? Yeah, that is what she says to people question the marriage. We're gonna be in trouble because it won't be consummated. Uh huh. And so but he girl gave what you want. So he does agree though. He tells her that they're going to be married the next day. And then he finally leaves the bathroom.

Rachel:

He agrees to the baby or the lover.

Margie:

He agrees to the baby. He's gonna get her pregnant because he's like, nobody else can get you pregnant.

Rachel:

Excuse me, Siri, will you please show me fragile masculinity

Margie:

they get married the next day. And I just want to mention that the sparks are flying between these two, right? They're super horny for each other. The bathroom scene was awkward. They're really thirsty. So she's 28?

Unknown:

Isn't she

Margie:

like round? She's 28? He's, he's I don't remember. little older, little older.

Rachel:

I mean, well, if. Let's assume that he's the same age as the other day. So he'd be four years older than her so

Margie:

yeah, okay. And also a virgin. Because he just like to touch anyone. Well, this

Unknown:

was that was at prison. Oh, no, no, you know what he's well. I mean, that's, that's okay. 21 age range right there. Right. So that could have been pre alright. Yeah, okay. Okay.

Margie:

All right after they do have sex. He just has all of his clothes on. And he makes her promise not to reach for him. And when she does throws a passion you ties our hands to the bed.

Rachel:

Okay, these are my sex pants.

Margie:

They have sex he leaves. She's still tied to the bed when he leaves because he basically runs out of there.

Unknown:

That is not good aftercare.

Rachel:

Oh, take care of your partner. Oh,

Unknown:

totally with your lover tied to the bed. Yeah, if your partner right.

Margie:

So there's this adorable character in the book Murdock who's basically the gay father rooster of this book, and love it. Well, because he's so he is. He's gay. That's why he was sent to prison with Dorian. Because his lover? Yeah, his lover like turned on him.

Rachel:

And I'm pretty sure back then sodomy was Yeah, yeah. It was

Margie:

one time lover too. So yeah, so sad. Yeah. And go to jail for that back. Yeah, yeah. So he went to jail for it. That's where he met Dorian. And don't Dorian.

Rachel:

The disapproving face is very appropriate for that is what

Margie:

it is, you know, like that's the book. That's just history listeners.

Unknown:

If you're ever in a position of power, don't make that a law. Yeah,

Margie:

nicely. So um,

Rachel:

don't yuck any. Right?

Unknown:

Well,

Rachel:

there are some times it doesn't hurt people. consensually consented lambing.

Unknown:

Yeah, so central age appropriate. Jamek so

Margie:

when? When Farah gets to the castle, Dorian is pretty much like you take care of her because you're gay. I know. Even I know. You're not gonna be interested.

Rachel:

Okay. All right. Not Oh, also just

Unknown:

approving case that is not an okay thing to say. Okay.

Rachel:

He was okay.

Margie:

Yeah, so, but just about Murdoch, like, you know, gay father rooster just about loses it when he finds parent in the morning time to the bed. He's like, why the frick? Didn't you take care of you? And she's like he did it was amazing.

Rachel:

Did you have to always pay after sex? Yeah, but still, yeah.

Margie:

So they all returned to London to get Paris title back together, they go to court to argue for his case. And for her fortune. She gets back thanks to one of the men who is like one of the judges and he actually recognizes her and remembers her from her being a child.

Unknown:

How more closely do you resemble your? Well,

Margie:

he wrecked four year old self. He recognizes her but also like he asks her a specific question about her past the only she would have known and she answers the question correctly.

Rachel:

Alright, so I'm willing to do this because it's already out there. Anyway. I do have a picture of like three year old Rachel.

Unknown:

Oh my god, but she's adorable.

Rachel:

We can put them side by

Margie:

side if you want. Oh, and mine. My pictures are really cute.

Rachel:

I'm at a Sesame Street box. I also have red hair. Okay, so

Unknown:

Oh, yeah. So you would clearly not inherit your fortune because you're like blonde now? Yes, I am clearly not Eris. Juby. Yeah, Charles fortune

Margie:

Dorien also proves to the courts that weren't in paid for the prostitute to take on the identity of ferrets so that he could marry the woman and then take care of his fortune. All right, yeah. So when he found out no one like dealt the prostitute? No, I don't know why. When he found out the Fair, fair that's actually alive. He paid someone to kill her to basically get rid of the evidence of what he did.

Rachel:

Right. But I will say that whole plot is gonna fall apart when her nose falls off.

Margie:

So but they will his job right. But one very important thing that we learned from this case is that even if Blackwell married ferret he doesn't get a seat in Parliament. He has no power in Parliament. Only one of Farah sons would have any power in Parliament. So Why marry her? Because he's not like he's not the actual heir. He's just married to the heiress so he doesn't really get any powers. His child would get powers. So Parliament or is this pre she doesn't get a seat? No, she's a woman.

Unknown:

She's had some hope that maybe they know and historically accurate about that. She.

Rachel:

I mean, she can't.

Margie:

She's very confused because she looks at Dorian when she finds that out and Dorian is kind of like blase about it. Like he like he wasn't surprised at all. He was disingenuous, but his intentions for betrothal perhaps mayhaps.

Unknown:

That is not a good way to start a relationship listeners.

Margie:

Go like you do. Oh, just wait. Rachel you need to listen.

Rachel:

Up the picture of adorable me listening something. Do you want something to throw a song? No,

Margie:

it's not. Very well might right. So during the premiere, I get back to Dorians house in London. Dorian is as remote and difficult as ever, but they managed to have sex in the library with their hands tied up again.

Rachel:

They manage it somehow probably with her hands being tied to move

Margie:

He calls her his fairy and that's what Farah finally figures it out like you pretty much know this entire time like the reader does. He leaves her tied up again and runs to the gardens to be broody. Then serve it on Tiser she chases after him Dorian and pear have a very bad heart to heart do you can slash story and explains that while he was in prison he had sent letters to his father a begging him to just help legal help and be to please look after farrier during his father did neither of these things and actually bribed three of the prison guards to beat Duke into death. This was done by Duke and slash story and stabbed right unfortunately those three guards beat the wrong person. actual story of Blackwell thank you for

Unknown:

classic mistake listeners hate it when you accidentally beat

Rachel:

the wrong guy to death. Same though

Unknown:

it's happened to me one

Rachel:

for me one I'll probably do it again.

Margie:

So on Dorians name it just never bothered to correct them and they never really noticed. Oh, wow. But Dorian is basically considered to give as dead his whole life like he's just gone through so many traumatic experiences while in presence of a

Rachel:

new that sounds like a possibly viable coping mechanism.

Margie:

The only part of Deegan that survived the time he was imprisoned was really this sounds so cheesy, but it's true. It is mentioned the plot was his love for Farah. Alright, his fairy so when he got out he's desperate a to find her and be protector, but he's like, I'm a horrible human being and literally have no heart and I'm incapable of love. She tells him she loves him anyway, he tells her she's an idiot, too. And reneges on their agreement to get her pregnant and leaves her and basically kicks her out of the house

Rachel:

I already threw the throw and cupcakes.

Margie:

Basically, he pretty much married her to keep her alive and because he didn't like the idea of anyone else having her

Unknown:

cut that that was very Oh, that's a real big lines. Okay,

Rachel:

it didn't clip you're fine. I'm sorry.

Margie:

After this argument, ferret is like okay, you homeboy. You want it that way you got it. She leaves London and takes all his staff with her. And to her old to her father's old house in the countryside, which is now rightfully hers. She slashed

Unknown:

the tires on his

Rachel:

or her name into

Unknown:

the windows out Chicago she keeps her

Rachel:

name into the sight of his horses.

Unknown:

No animals were harmed in the reading of this book. Just to carry

Rachel:

Alright, she took her lipstick and wrote her name on the side of the horses, shaved it into them.

Margie:

He she sits in London and broods for two damn months. His friend can go to your fucking wife and homeboy is like the angst is too powerful. There's so much egg.

Unknown:

Wake me up inside.

Margie:

up inside. Yeah, wake up.

Rachel:

This is like a Olympic level. He's training for the broody Olympics. One,

Unknown:

I'm sure there were held in Glasgow that year.

Margie:

But Farrah has had just about enough of his angst. It's been two months. And so she does something amazing one day when she's particularly positive and writes a letter saying, You know what, I'm letting you out of our contract agreement. If you won't give me a baby, someone else will have a nice life. She writes a letter that says

Rachel:

give what you want. Yes. Don't take his shit.

Margie:

Takes us very well Biden's to say get straight for her country house. Do not pass go do not collect 200

Rachel:

Oh no, she was doing she Oh, she knew she knew it was there to get to get in hard and he's probably not even going to use his sex pants. Okay,

Unknown:

I'm hoping she ties him down. Pretty Fair enough.

Margie:

Fair is our country tassel chilling though your husband is about to show up when Oh no. Warrington arrives. The dude who was also marry her right and his her daughter's age. Right. He shoots Murdoch. Oh, are gay father Brewster I know and taste her through the wardrobe to Narnia JK to a secret tunnel that was apparently in her wardrobe. But leaves like to like an underground cavern in the castle.

Unknown:

She's been there for two months and she hasn't found this out. Nope. Like worrying

Margie:

son lived there. Before she did. He was basically kicked out of the house and he says he's like, No, this is my house. I live here is rightfully mine. And she's like No, actually it's not but okay. Turns out he's been lying. Being in the walls of the castle spying on her he got the Sith from the hooker he married and is now bent on revenge on Farah. Is he gonna? No no. Oh no. So he

Rachel:

honestly so invested in who does and does not get sick

Margie:

got the set

Rachel:

who's gonna have a nose in six months?

Unknown:

Listeners I am in shock should

Margie:

Dorian shows up at the house and is like where the fuck is my wife and they're like perfect timing we have no idea.

Rachel:

Also our friendly gait,

Margie:

he's fine he's just kind of grazed thank God and he also he's also falling in love with another member of the household. He's got like a stutter it's so cute. I know I know there's so much representation love it.

Rachel:

I'm not bad considering the time period and also the genre book.

Margie:

So they hear shots fired and Dorian is like that is literally coming through the fucking wall. So we break down the doorway to Narnia runs down.

Rachel:

Oh, yeah. Yeah, he's like,

Margie:

he says like he's gonna break down every single wall of that castle. But yeah, so he runs down the stairs to find Farah has already taken the gun away from Warrington, cool on her and has already shot Warrington in the stomach. Dorian takes the gun and shoots Warrington in the head. And he's like Yeah, yeah, he's toasty stuff. Yeah. Um, so after all those

Rachel:

there was no reason for him to shoot the dude in the head. He was

Unknown:

mercy killing.

Margie:

He said more. It was like I didn't want his blood to be on your hands. Now it's on my hands. So okay,

Unknown:

so I don't know or cheerio spray from like a shot in the head. Well, it's gonna get everyone's

Rachel:

equivalent of mansplaining him shooting him in the head after she shot him in the stomach and was already gonna die. Oh my god.

Unknown:

No, no, no, you didn't kill him. I killed him.

Rachel:

Right? You're not a real murderer. I

Margie:

am. So um they kind of like realize he realizes you are so important to me. I never want to lose you again. That was the scariest thing that ever happened to me. You know the typical life. They have sex again. Close off this time.

Rachel:

Awesome. isn't even my final form a

Margie:

Dory. Dory, it allows her to touch. They make babies they live happily ever after the end.

Rachel:

How many babies

Margie:

so far two. Okay. One of them's name is Faye. The second one is a son named Duke and Mackenzie Blackwell. It's just you have emotions, your feelings.

Rachel:

I have something and I don't know what this weird feeling in my deep blackhole heart is or at least what once was our last Blackwell's in the void in my chest that at one point might have held emotions. I'm not sure. Like honestly can't tell. That was amazing

Margie:

adventure. That was

Rachel:

such a beautiful roller coaster. I actually really enjoyed that. Okay, good because I was

Margie:

I was like invested in the plot. The only thing I really didn't like It's like she the author went too far on his eggs just

Rachel:

too far. All right, but if I had $1 for every time I spent two months brooding in a corner. I would be goddamn rich.

Unknown:

isn't like per month or per brood? Because it's like pert like I could be brutal about multiple things. Okay, but like

Rachel:

what are we considering a brood? Is there a time period cut off? Is it purged per like topic? Like,

Margie:

per topic or topic or topics per topic? I'd

Rachel:

be pretty rich. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Especially like those teenage years. Oh, god. Yeah, I wanna shit. Sorry. I was seen as shit. I was a scene weep.

Margie:

I wasn't at all but now I really embraced it now. But like, it's just he's just so much. And he's not like Zuko. And it's it's not like a Zuko level of eggs. It's like, way beyond that. It's too much. It's too powerful.

Unknown:

Two months, like, I mean, like,

Rachel:

what do you even do? I

Unknown:

didn't she move on in that time? Like she loves him. Nice. No, I

Rachel:

didn't even know it was her, homeboy. Yeah.

Margie:

Boy, like our boy. And then Dorian is a homeboy and he kind of goes back to being our boy by the end of the book away.

Rachel:

I don't know if there's enough redemption to call him and our boy at the end, like he's

Margie:

in the epilogue. He's like, our boy again. So

Unknown:

that doesn't count. There wasn't enough groundwork for that character development. I'm not counting it as a listener.

Margie:

That's the thing also is that like, I mean, I do like though that she she does take control and she gets

Rachel:

what she was like that to an extent and was like she starts I

Margie:

worried that letter that letter was so satisfying.

Rachel:

Hey, go fuck yourself and if you're not gonna fuck me, I'm gonna find someone else to do it by and

Margie:

she's serious about it. She's like, you know, I'm upset right now, but eventually that's what's gonna happen because I'm not living here. I'm not. These are things that are waiting for you. Yeah, I tried. If you're not willing to try then fine, but

Rachel:

I do very much appreciate that.

Unknown:

I like to imagine that was her plan B. All right. So that was like, Alright, I'm do this last thing and that's not gonna work. I'm actually gonna do what I'm saying. That's

Margie:

pretty much what she said. She's all right. All right. It's taken a while to get over you. But whatever. Yeah, heard from you remember by I will remember that. She literally waited for him for 17 years. That's their long as time because she think he was dead. She didn't think he was 17 years end of this year, she thought he was dead. But she also didn't marry anyone else and kept his name and kept his name

Unknown:

long. Okay, so she has standards. What I'm hearing is like she didn't just like

Margie:

10 years. 10 years, you can find a deal. He does like a decent guy. She finds morally. What happened

Unknown:

to him? Yeah. Guy like, he proposed and and got ghosted. He didn't get. He does

Margie:

see him again. And she does explain what happened.

Rachel:

I'm sorry. I got kidnapped. So somebody

Margie:

didn't like this was really the only option. And she's like, Yep, I'm so sorry. But she also tells him she's like, it wouldn't have worked out between us. Like, we would not have been happy with one another, which I think is bullcrap. He's a great guy. Yeah. That sounds like bullshit.

Rachel:

Okay. All right. So let's actually get to like, we kind of did a little bit, right. Okay, so, we are going to break down all our female character, our male character, our plots, and then our overall rating. So on a scale of one to five. I'd

Margie:

say 80 And five is best. Yes, we're gonna give her 3.5 All right, we buy pretty

Rachel:

Miller actually, like, I get the middle of the road and I get but she's like a little bit above. So I agree with that.

Margie:

A little bit of very self empowered and self motivated, but we she was 10 she ran away from the orphanage and got onto the back of like someone's carriage to run away like she's, you know, Amy Lee. She's clever. Yeah, like,

Rachel:

yeah, no, I like her. I like her. Like, what do you think Lexi?

Unknown:

Ah, I like she's definitely motivated. She's get to get Z.

Margie:

What's that dick?

Rachel:

She knows what she wants. And she is not afraid to get it. Yeah.

Unknown:

So I would almost say like, I would agree like 3.5 Maybe even a four.

Margie:

Yeah, it's hard because it's like 3.7

Unknown:

down.

Margie:

Okay, I'm gonna give a 2.5 because I got so sick of hearing him complain.

Rachel:

You know, that's, too. Ah, shit. Alright.

Unknown:

I am harsh on this boy.

Rachel:

He needs a swift boot to the head.

Unknown:

He needs to learn communication. Yes. No. fucking lie into your lungs significant other and grow the fuck up and stop being a moody teenager? Yeah, when you're in your 30s Just a thought.

Rachel:

first thought is I this is the woman that I loved mo like all of my life. Knock her unconscious and drug to Scotland. That's what every woman wants.

Unknown:

Like, if I haven't thought that about you once Rachel. You know, I know.

Rachel:

Oh, Alexa.

Margie:

Before your wedding, we both show up at your wife.

Rachel:

You're gonna show up with chloroform and she's gonna show you something that's actually gonna work. Maybe like, I got this.

Margie:

Zach is like, what the fuck are you doing here?

Rachel:

He's gonna show up with another rag of chloroform. Oh, hey guys but I'm not going to because it's actually going to be really hard if you're laughing I know you're really happy and it's so cute. Okay, so next, gentlemen. Oh, where did the gentlemen a lot. This was fucking Buck wise. He

Margie:

was he was buck wild, but he's also like, I was it wasn't mildly interesting. I think a little confusing especially with like their passive like, okay, he they haven't seen each other for 17 years, but he's been quote unquote, dead for 10 years. Like yeah, that a little confusing. A little extra.

Rachel:

And it sounds really like middle of the road three for me because like it sounds it's buckwild 3.5. Okay, it's implemented well, but it's confusing.

Unknown:

It's sounding pretty entertaining and like ending of Dude douche canoe showing up was?

Margie:

Yeah, yeah. shook it. Yeah. Like Yeah. Well, like Oh. And they didn't mention this when he says to her when he takes her down into that cavern, Warrington says, you know, I wanted to rape you. But unfortunately my dick doesn't work anymore. So,

Unknown:

you know, so open with that not a lot of guys are, you know, boy

Rachel:

that you know the syphilis, you know and if we're gonna be like, it's actually kind of interesting because he's probably batshit fucking crazy if his dick doesn't look anymore he's probably reached the insanity level of

Margie:

his doctor told him he's got a month to live so

Rachel:

he's definitely Okay, so it's okay that he died. He Yeah.

Unknown:

Yeah, he shouldn't have like, the neurological functions to do

Rachel:

a lot. Yeah, he should probably be bedridden at this point.

Margie:

Well, he was he was living. He was. I mean, he was bananas. Like he was living down in that cave, like, a chamber pot like

Rachel:

cuckoo for so many cocoa. Yep. So many.

Margie:

So many. He was Froot Loops, like, wow. So

Unknown:

I'm gonna just suspend disbelief on that's fair, like the actual prognosis of that on expertise. I

Margie:

mean, in general, overall, I would say like,

Rachel:

one to 1010 being the best one being the worst. How would you write the overall novel?

Margie:

Six, six, cuz it's like, so here's my thing on it. I think that for what I wanted that night, it was perfect. Yes, it had a buck wild. I was a little drunk. I was like, okay, he's, he's a dark hero. He's too much. He was even too much for me. Which is

Rachel:

impressive. Yeah, that is your jam.

Margie:

That's my jam. So

Unknown:

hey, girl. I see you.

Margie:

I see. I know, soldier, that Harry Dresden thing of just like, Oh, hey, it's so stupid to get this. Like, I think I could change it. But that by rationality is like, No, you cannot

Rachel:

also don't go into a relationship thinking. Yeah.

Margie:

Never. So I'm right.

Unknown:

The villainous crush, but not gonna lie. That is that is a true.

Margie:

Just about died.

Rachel:

Okay. All right. So six out of 10 pretty solid. You find it in the library. Great.

Margie:

Yeah. If you don't buy it, we don't recommend buying it.

Rachel:

So this was your one. I'm not reading something. I'm reading this, wasn't it?

Margie:

No, I know. Actually, I just went to the library yesterday. So I'm reading two things. I posted this on Twitter. I'm reading I'm currently reading The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich. Oh, good. Oh, and so reading the history of Egypt. I'm really fascinated by history right now. Interesting. Yeah. Cool. Yeah, I picked up a bunch of books yesterday about history. Cool. Very excited. Neat. Yeah, yeah. But I also got the discovery of which

Rachel:

book I was really good. Yeah. Um, so Alexa, Rachel media are you consuming don't have any books? I know recon doing my life right now.

Unknown:

Yes. Love it. It's it's very there's a lot of joy sparking god. I'm reading a lot of blogs, which isn't like a whole lot of great stuff, but it's mostly like it's stuff that you can't talk about for now. Oh, no. So what I've read recently that I love that's a little bit junk foodie. Um, it's yeah, it's the Throne of Glass series. Oh. Yeah. Like it's Jeff. It's definitely fantasy. There is a little bit of romance in there. Probably like older teen Okay, so it's not like real heavy on intimacy but it's there. It's like well, I did the series like just finish I just got the book from the library and finish it like in the week that I got it but it was like thick with three C's. Koi just how I like them. Yeah, so that's that was good junk food because you can like read through it and unnecessarily fast but you get caught up in it and you just before you know it the bag whole bag of chips is gone. If you don't want giant food and you want to, you know want to read something that's actually like, more literature and that you're not afraid to show on the bus. I will always plug the Power BI. She wasn't Naomi Watts. Its new meal. Alderman is her name. Okay. Um, so it's like, more revenge The Handmaid's Tale, like the like the whole, like the whole premise is like it's modern day and women somehow developed this power to electrocute. Awesome like, we need that it's so it goes back and forth between Present day where like women, like women go through, like, wait a minute, we can do this and like the changes that go on in modern day with men being scared of women for once, and then in the future when women that's it's basically basically a matriarchy, sweet. Oh, yeah. And about like the end. There's also like the book. It's like a book within a book. Sort of like the Blind Assassin. If you've read I think that's Margaret Atwood. Yeah, it's

Rachel:

been a while ago.

Unknown:

So like The book The Power is supposed to like a historical fiction written by a man in the future. And there's no from his editor saying, Have you considered using a feminine pen name people might take you more seriously. And it's like, I just it's just disponer like when you're feeling down about how women are treated nowadays that is Lady but that is it made me feel very empowered and happy and wanted to march in the streets and punch Nazis.

Margie:

I always well I want to do that anyway. Yeah,

Rachel:

it's current forever state of being Yeah, forever

Unknown:

meet so that is my cue that is my if you want to eat a salad, but like a really delicious salad, or if you want like a whole bag of chips. I like like a family sized bag of chips because there's like six books in the throne. Case. It's a big one.

Margie:

I will I was so excited. So earlier this week on our own. On our Twitter, I put out a tweet to one of my favorite characters from the show Sensei and she actually liked the tweet and I was like, Ah, so much it was Jamie Clayton. She plays Noemi marks on Sensei and it's like my favorite cave favorite show. So neat. Yeah, that's exciting. No, that's super exciting to our podcasts. JB
