Margie:tearing me apart from Rocky sea
Rachel:Hello, and welcome to textual tension, a love hate relationship with romance novels. I'm your co host, Rachel and I am your co host, Margie. Every other week one of us reads a romance novel and summarizes it for our unsuspecting co host this week that listen to me is Margie. Yay. And together we unpack what the fuck just happened. Hi, Margie. Hi, Rachel. Are you excited? Oh, it's been great. It's been two weeks for you listeners. It's been about 20 minutes for us. We got lunch. We did good. But I am very excited for this. Are you ready? I'm ready for okay. And incredibly wholesome. And actually really fun book.
Margie:I'm ready. I don't know how this happens. Right? Yeah. Why do I always find all the bananas book you promised me and
Rachel:I think as soon as you see the cover of it, you'll understand why I picked it. Because I'm thinking this is gonna be is it a physical book or if it's a physical book? I have a physical book for you. Excited? Alright.
Margie:Are you ready? No. Yes.
Rachel:Okay. Wow. I feel like we like jumped from the intro into the actual meat of this really quick.
Margie:Yeah, we did a good job. Okay, great. Sure.
Rachel:We'll call it being professional. Here you go.
Margie:Oh, my God. Oh my god. So I have a story about this book. Adam at the library like recommended. Yes. Up. So
Rachel:I'm at the Cincinnati library. Yes. Wow. Recommended. I did did no idea that well, he wasn't on my list.
Margie:He so I was like doing a book photoshoot? Uh huh. I mean, gave me this one.
Rachel:Oh, man. You kind of know what it's about. Did you know I did. Okay, but like, you see why I picked it up though. Okay, I
Margie:guess. Oh my god. Yeah. But I'm like, it's the other must have don't
Rachel:tell our listeners. Oh,
Margie:it's on purpose. Okay. Our listeners. It's cold. Must Love wieners rescue dog robots. By Casey Griffin. The title is bigger than the author's name.
Rachel:And you you totally understand why I picked it because I saw it and was like done. I'm looking. Yes. Today's today's price.
Margie:Yes. So this is a sassy, sexy, romantic mystery that will leave readers barking with laughter
Rachel:really, I wouldn't tell you they're really classified as a mystery but okay, Diane Kelly,
Margie:Best Selling Author of pot and order.
Rachel:Oh, that's another thing is you thought my pods were bad last time strap in. So ready strap so
Margie:excited. Okay, so now I'm going to turn it over read the back. Oh, wait, just grab the cover. Oh, right. Dog do so if you guys it's a picture two people. They're sitting on a park bench. Their backs are to us and they're looking up at a very like, I think it's like a sunset because the tree like is red and almost looks like it's on fire. And they have their hands like over the railing of the park bench. Those are very uncomfortable. So uncomfortable and unnatural, like, and they're holding hands behind them on the park bench. But I'm like, why don't you just hold hands like normal people kinda looks
Rachel:like someone like took bits and pieces of a human and then photoshopped it onto a bench.
Margie:Yeah, also, his legs are weird. His legs or his leg? Your leg is fine. Her legs are really weird. There's something about there's something about that height ratio that is definitely not right. Like I feel like her legs must be like, like her knees was like Jai owl. And then and then there's an adorable little wiener dog. Well, Doc, so that's why I'm so bad with
Rachel:DAX and DAX. He by the end of this you'll know.
Margie:Okay, so Oh man. I wish I could read the top thing. Remember the Dayton Metro library sticker Amina Paul that okay so it says Piper summer works like a dog? Hey, just know Yep, just wait juggling three jobs to put herself through veterinary school, driving taxis delivering pizzas and singing telegrams, but the actual can't go and baby Billie Piper has her do devoted dash hound dogs and dogs. How do you say daxin dachshund. Cullen to keep to help her keep things line what that is until she gets fired and someone throws her bow that is too good too and says Oh no.
Rachel:I wish you could see my shaded in green right now. It's There's because I fucking love the puns in this book.
Margie:Aiden Caldwell is an is an Armani ad come to life a billionaire CEO who's just a dub dub dub did a dachshund dachshund run the rescue center where Piper volunteers he's a hot on Piper's tail to be his personal dog walker. But he may be after more than a walker for his oh my god gorgeous spirited Piper's everything he's ever wanted from a woman and more. But but can Piper ever love and trust a man who has never learned to open his heart? Or has she bitten off more than she can chew?
Rachel:I really wish I had kept track of the number of puns dog puns in this book. It would it would have been too many. But it would have been amazing. Yay. Yay. So you know me, you know my love of puns and the fact that it was must love wieners
Margie:Oh my god. Yeah, no, there. Yeah, there's nothing else that you could use. Right?
Rachel:Oh, God. So first thing I'd like to mention is props. Because the the dog that is described in the book is exactly what this dog looks like on the cover. I was impressed with that. Um, and I also want to real quick because I'm gonna forget later and it meant something to me. Hey, Casey, Griffin. I see you, you and your nerd. Nerd background. She. She's actually awesome. A true geek at heart. Casey Griffin can often be found at comic conventions on our days off from her day job driving a 400 ton dump trucks in northern Alberta, Canada. I love you Casey. Oh, right. As a jack of all trades with a resume boasting registered nurse, English teacher, a photographer and a photographer books are her true passion. Super cool. Really cool. I read that I'm like, I like you. You're neat. You're a nerd like. Okay, so let's get into the meat. Hey. So real quick spoiler.
Margie:Triggers, trigger warnings,
Rachel:not spoilers, true warning. boilies. No. Trigger warnings, quick triggers. Um, so there's a lot of little stuff that happens like there's a little bit of stalking there's a little bit of just like creepy guys in general. There's a between the lead No, good. There's no animal abuse or so the outside of like, like, there's like some danger, but no, like act nothing actively happened. Okay, so that's fine. Um, um, I think that's about it. Okay. Yeah. So let's get into it. I'm so excited. So, we're gonna follow Piper and Aiden and I'm going to go ahead and throw this out here right now. Aiden is the biggest our boy ever and I would die for this man. I'm so Riley he is the biggest goddamn cinnamon roll ever. And I love him.
Margie:So he's a CEO.
Rachel:We've had a lot of this whole CEO romance. Yeah, and this is exactly the opposite of anything you've ever read about it? Like, right? Yeah. Right. Okay. So Piper summers characters. Piper has chestnut waves, curly hair. Jesus, we're going so fast today. How Okay, whatever. So here's chestnut with a curly hair not described by him just okay, in general. Um, she is three weeks away from being a full time vet. So she is in the last two weeks. She's been going to school for eight years. Oh, my, I'm putting herself through the whole thing. She has two weeks left of like, I guess the vet equivalent of clinicals. Right. And then she has to take her candidacy exam. And then she is a full fledged vet. Cool. Um, and then in order to scrape by though until she can do that she has three jobs right now. She is a taxi driver, a pizza delivery driver. And then also, they say a telegram singing telegram girl, she's a sexy singing. So that's another thing I really wish I had kept track of in this book was the number of different sexy costumes that she's in. Oh my God keep track of how many zany situations she gets into all wearing some costume. Okay, I'm excited. Great. Plus, she volunteers at a dog rescues that specializes in dioxins. So she is a very busy woman. Yeah. And she also has we have a third character that I'm going to real quickly talk about which is calling calling is her Doxon His name is calling. Oh, and he's a little brown and black shorthair daxi that has kind of like a Batman mask kind of thing looking like like he's like the one on the cover. Batman mask.
Margie:Oh, love it.
Rachel:And then we have oh, and I will probably because I was having trouble figuring out where to put this in in my summary. So just gonna go ahead and get it out of the way at the beginning, a little bit about Piper's family history. So she grew up on an onion farm in Oregon. So she got a farm. And her father ended up getting cancer skin cancer when he was when she was younger, he ended up passing away her mom and her had a lot of really difficult times with the farm, they entered having to sell everything off. And they ultimately moved to San Francisco where this takes place. Her brother during all of this during her dad going downhill and all of that stuff, was busy getting his law career off the ground, and was like buying BMWs and not doing anything to help with all these medical bills or anything like that. Right. So she does not have a close relationship with her brother, her mother, they moved to San Francisco together and her mom eventually ended up going to live closer to her brother. And her mom keeps calling and being like, you know, hey, you guys need to like make it up. And she's like, No, like, Yeah, I'm done with this. Right? Like, I'm not gonna deal with
Margie:weight. Piper's like that. Like, okay, yeah, I know that like
Rachel:hyper has wants nothing to do with her brother. And even though like it's kind of she kind of talks about it where she's like, you know, this. I feel like he's like, trying to make up for it. But it's not Yeah, I'm not gonna not gonna live that life. Even though she is really scraping behind. She's a couple weeks behind on her rent. Like she's not supposed to have dogs in her apartment. So she sneaks calling in and out in a backpack. Oh, like, home girl struggling. Yeah. And then we see Aiden Caldwell. So Aiden is I'm sure that they described like it very seamlessly. What he looks like somewhere in the plot. I apparently wasn't paying enough attention. Okay, so I didn't see it. He does have a perpetual bed head, which is really cute. It's so cute. I know any. He's one of his nervous tics is he rubs his hands through his hair. So it sticks up even more was Oh, really? He's hot. Like, seriously? Love it. Yeah, ripped. Um, and he is the head of a fortune 500 investment company that he inherited from his dad. Okay. So his father had passed away and left the company to him. Again, I didn't know where to fit this into my summary. So Aiden used to live sort of the party boy, playboy lifestyle when he didn't have to run the company. And then his father passed away. And so he inherited it all. And he realized, oh, fuck, I need to I need to hunker down and do this. So he started getting really serious. And he like, actually gives a shit right? person, right? And yeah, worked his ass off to get where he is. Right. Like he works 12 hour days, like he's, he's been doing and he has kind of old, old style business practices because of his dad, like what he learned. And so his thing is, you do not mix business and pleasure. That's like his mantra. Okay, so fair. There's and
Margie:you know, what, actually a good thing because the best books that we I've read,
Rachel:right? Yeah, well, he kind of accidentally breaks his own rule in an awkward way. And it's really cute. Oh, okay. Ready? All right. Let's get into this scene one. So we open on Piper, delivering pizza in her cab on her way to a singing telegram game. So she has her pizza uniform on top of her sexy cowgirl uniform. Oh, I'm calling eight the breadsticks so the pizza is cold because she picked up another, another like passenger who went the opposite direction. There's no breadsticks. She tries to deliver it ends up like fuck it and runs away. No, she's getting fired from that job. Right? So then she drives to her cola her, her telegram job, Parks illegally and gets called out by another cabbie who's like her arch cabbie nemesis. And she's like, No, I'm picking up somebody and then like runs inside in her sexy cowgirl costume because she's doing a telegram at Coldwell and Sons Investment Company. Oh, um, so this entire book is I should have opened with Are you ready to hear about Piper's no good very three weeks for baby diaper. So she makes it to the very top of this place. meets an old dude it's kind of weird like looking down at her smells like spice he comes up. Yeah. And then gets let in by the assistant who's like, like giving this like me a sneer side eye kind of thing. And I'm just doing my job. So she gallops and those little horse stick things. Baby Dude, my social anxiety struggle. Oh
Margie:god, yeah, she
Rachel:trips, not someone's coffee onto his shirt. And like, gets up and she's like, Okay, I'm looking boy. I'm looking for Aiden Caldwell. And he's like,
Margie:in the middle of a meeting and
Rachel:people like, Well, they certainly have to see this dude once and launches into her song. She's really really good singer and she writes all the raw material. Oh, cool, right. And she does the whole thing and he's laughing his ass off. Like he's like smiling.
Margie:Like, yeah, it's it's holy. Yeah. And it was supposed to be right. It's quite funny. Yeah. Yeah.
Rachel:And, um, so she like ends up a couple other things happening or happening where it's like she's feels super embarrassed, obviously. And so she like books it she's like I'm done. Yeah, she gets to the cabin and falls her out. Because he like follows her and the other cabbie is still giving her shit for parking there. And he's like, actually, I'm the I'm the passenger and like, gets in the back of the cab. So
Margie:I love it. I love it's so cute.
Rachel:Oh, my God, so many fuzzy cinnamon book. He's like, I like that was right. Um, so she, he's like, trying to be like, Hey, I wanted to give you a tip. And also like, I'm sorry, that was really awkward for you. I understand why. And so she gets ends up getting stopped though, but it's a cabbie while she's trying to talk to him about this. And she gets out to confront him, like talk to him. And he's sitting there staring at her. And then he's looking past her and starts like grinning and she looks back and someone jumped in her cabin drove off for a joy ride with Aiden's briefcase in it. Wow. Piper is no good. Very bad morning.
Margie:It doesn't get better.
Rachel:It does. But it also doesn't. Yeah. So she gets fired fired from both her pizza delivery job and her taxi job in one go. So the only one she has left is the singing telegram girl, and she's got her rent and her utilities and she only has three weeks left until she's a full time fat, right? Like all this stuff. She's She's like, it's fine. I'm fine. I'm fine, fine, fine.
Margie:I guess I will figure this out
Rachel:how she lives her life. She does not accept help from anybody. She is all about know that feel independence. I'm gonna do it myself. And Ames just kind of they're like trying to reason with the cabbie and like talk and then he like the dude, like, drives away in the cab and he's just like, Huh, well, okay. Like, I don't know what to do now. So but he does give her a tip and everything and that's the night they talked to the cops and then she they go their separate ways. Yeah. So Piper is on our way then to she goes to her volunteer job at the docks and rescue. So she meets up with her two friends that also work there who are super sweet one of one of them is like overly romantic, and the other one is like, Oh, I would say borderline a romantic if I didn't know that she's the subject of a future book. Oh, sorry. But she's like, she owns her own like, like, I think she owns like a vibrator company or something. I know. She's like she's, you know, wonderful romantic relationship with her vibrators and that's all she cares about. She's great. I love her. They're, they're a fun little girl. Um, so she goes to the docks and rescue her friends give her clothes to wear like she's still in her sexy cowgirl outfit. And her clothes were in the cab. Don't worry, call and get out of the cab too. Okay, good. Yeah, Colin's fine.
Margie:Okay, good. Oh, didn't even think about it because we're calling
Rachel:calling her dialogues with Cullen are really funny because she like she you know, you can understand a pet kind of right. And that kind of one sided conversations that she has with them. Collins pretty great. So she's helping with the dogs like getting everyone fed and everything when she hears the door open. And so she draws the straw to go and help like get the door right. And she opens it and one of the dogs that have been out of her cage who is like, perpetually horny husky, runs over and starts like humping her because, you know, he can hump dogs and she's like, wrestling with this dog and it looks over and there's Aiden.
Margie:I knew it was gonna happen. And
Rachel:he's like, grinning because he finds it hilarious again, so he grabs
Margie:a sense of humor.
Rachel:He thinks it's so funny, just to like read a passage from this book later. Just wait. I'm so surprised. It's Aiden, um, so Aiden's there turns out to adopt a doctrine. He, so he has been talking to the lady who owns this doctrine rescue. And he has been wanting to get like a dog. And so he fell in love with this little doctor named Sophie. Problem is that Colin and Sophie are best friends like bonded together, right? Well, Piper didn't know that when she adopted Collin. And if she had known she would have gone back and gotten Sophie or adopted them both together, but she didn't know and then Sophie, er, and then like something happened and so she couldn't get Sophie because of like money or something. Okay, and so he's adopting Sophie. Not knowing Okay, yeah. And and Sophie, you're such good friends. So he sees her there. And they like have some really cute because they're both kind of like, Hey, I see you like they will think they're an attractive right. And mostly because he he I think he just had this moment of who the fuck is this girl? I want to
Margie:know her. larious hilarious and interesting and nice and yeah,
Rachel:so clumsy and um, so she having seen her just lose two of her jobs. Yeah says, hey, I want this you know, I want a companion. I'm not home very often I could really use a dog walker and obviously you care about animals and you were like, you know, good with this dog and you know this dog and Cullen and Sophia friends. Why don't you be my dog walker. So he offered her job. So they set up a time on like the following Saturday to meet at the dog park for sort of like an interview with props to him for not just a being I don't know you. You're my dog walker now have more of like, yeah, okay, let's let's see. Yeah, right. Exactly. So thanks. And she's like, part of hers. Like, I should do this. And then she goes home and like, I need to do this. I don't have any money. Yeah, three weeks. Yeah. Right. So they set up a time and they go to the doctor so stark up to Saturday. I'm so Piper means Aiden at the dog park with Cullen and Sophie. And again, my beautiful cinnamon roll. This is the moment that I was like I would die for this. Colin's we're not calling. I put Colin not calling. Hayden. Yeah, is wearing a full on suit on a Saturday
Margie:at a die at a dog park. Why?
Rachel:And piper calls him out on it and is like, joking with him about it. But she's like, that's not a normal dog park. And he's like, Well, what, what is because he didn't have dog before. And she's like, well, usually you're in like, you know, cargo shorts and a flannel with sandals that he's, you know, laughs and they just kind of keep going. But he's still he's like, glued some work to do this weekend. Like, you know, that kind of deal. And it comes up later, and you'll see. So Aiden kind of questions or make sure that she's not crazy. Props to him. Yeah. Um, and there's a lot of joking and like, going back and forth, like their banter together is really cute. And it's all just like, joking and giving each other shit right now and like flirting. Yeah, the whole interaction is really cute. And he offers her they sit down, while the well the dogs are like, dogs are playing. And he's like, alright, so I'll lay out the terms of what I want, like timewise. Like, you need to be available during these times. And you can come and go from my house whenever you please. I just need to know when you're coming. And like all the stuff, so I can offer you $70 She's like, $70 a week, and he's like,$70 an hour. And I think I don't know if this will be my first jump. But I think given their first interaction, her thought is what kind of girl do you think I am? Do you expect me to do more than this? No, this is not okay. Because $70 an hour. That's significantly more than what I make as an engineer with a master's. Yeah. Yeah. That's a lot. Yeah. Yeah. Um, I didn't actually do the math on how much that is a year. I don't know. Cuz I do some math
Margie:later. Well, she's only doing that like, what? an hour a day. So
Rachel:before taxes and fees. You're looking at about $145,000 a year at $70 an hour. Oh, my
Margie:God. That's me.
Rachel:Ha. So she like gets up and like kind of storms off because she's like, I am not. And he's just really confused. Oh, he's just so out of touch that he's I don't I don't I thought that was reasonable. Like, I don't know, like, right. You're good with animals. Yeah. And so he follows her like, runs after and explains like she explained, she's like, props to them for communicating. She's like, that's way too astronomically Rio de culus amount of money and so they like start negotiating and they come to like an agreement. Okay, and throwing all this you hear about Piper's a little bit about Hybris backstory and about like her becoming Yvette and like her own and she does with donating her time and all of this stuff. And he's like, cool, you're a good human also you're almost event so that makes me feel good about my dog. And while they're walking my notes I have Aiden sorry and didn't realize it sounded that way because he's a cinnamon roll. Um, so as they're leaving a they noticed that a group of activists are setting up for a protest. It is the it's like the San Francisco activist against animal cruelty or so like that. Which Piper used to be a part of, but is no longer because she's trying to like duck out of the way and get out because one of the chicks that is part of it, who weaseled her way into this, this group sees her and Amelie calls out you slide and like starts to yelling and slandering her in public. Because this is Laura. Again, oh my god, Aiden being in the caught in the middle of Piper's like shenanigans. Yeah, like the fact like, what's happening? And so she's able to get away after a lot of like public slander by Laura and all this shit. And she, it comes out that because he asked me what that was all about that about and she's like, well, we used to be in vet school together. I caught her cheating on a test. And I reported her and reported it. Yeah. And so what she did was she went to the, like media and stuff and dragged Piper's names through the mud by saying, Oh, she was sleeping with a professor and like, Oh, that wasn't true. And but it's right. And I guess like the reporters, like didn't do their research. And so at the time that they like, they actually printed a redaction. It was like on Leno. Page. I do. And so she got really slandered and Laura got kicked out. So Laura blames her and still is
Margie:so stupid, though, because with Laura's Oh, damn ball shouldn't have frickin cheated.
Rachel:There's, she's like, she is TM crazy person, like she is batshit nuts. So, Piper's like, you know, after all that I understand if you you'd rather not have me, you know, work for you. And he's like, No, actually, like, Well, would you? Would you report her again? If you were in that situation? She's like, Absolutely. He's like, cool. Yeah, I want you to be my dog. Walker. You're a good moral person. I like you. Cool. So all right, right. And so he's like, do you want to come back to my place? She's like, hey, oh, he's like, you know, so I can show you the house. So you know where you're going to be going to pick up Sophia? Oh, yeah, right.
Margie:Definitely not sex. I was not thinking sex. Right.
Rachel:Exactly. So they go back to his house. And this is where I did a little bit of research. He has a mansion. Overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge. Wow. Property in that area. Oh, God runs from five to 45 million. Yeah. Um, a lot of it actually was on the more like five to 6 million. I was expecting to be higher, but there's a couple like 30 and $45 million. Yeah. So it depends on what he has. But I did look that up. I was very curious. So that gives you he's a billionaire. Yeah. But that gives you like, a mild idea. Right? What he's about. Um, and this is where we meet Tamera, who is his personal assistant, okay. And she seems cool and everything. And he's like, she's worked with me for years. Like, she's super cool. She takes care of a lot of the stuff for me, like, it's fine. And Piper's like, okay, but there's something kind of weird about her. Hmm. She just it's it's kind of like an interaction where you're like, she's kind of fake. Just a little off. Yeah, a little somethings about so. But Aiden sees the best in everybody. And he's like, I've been working with her forever. And she's great. She's fine. Yeah, so No, she's not. Yeah, no. Um, and so they go to leave. And as soon as like, tomorrow pops up. He like stops flirting quite as much. And then he resorts back to I forgot to mention this his big tech. So one of his tics is his like, yeah, thanks as he runs his answers here is a big one, though, is at the end of every single meeting with her he seems to get a little bit flustered and whenever he's gets starts to get flustered, he shakes her hand with who was Piper Oh, so as soon as he starts to get flustered in any way, he puts his hand out for a handshake shakes and leaves. Okay, and she's like, really confused by this. Yeah, like, okay, sure, whatever. And so it's, it's it, she's gets to a point where she starts beating him to it. So she knows He's flustered. And so she sticks her hand out for a handshake. And he's like, oh, and then shakes your hand. And I
Margie:love this man. Oh, my God.
Rachel:He's so great. Um, yeah. So that's where me, Tamara, and then excited. Like, yes, you can come by the house, whatever. Let me know when you're coming. So that I you know, I know. And good, great agreement. Cool. She's now working for Hayden. Little bit of a side note, at this point. Piper does a lot of her studying at the rescue center. And there was an incident at the rescue center, like a night or two. I don't remember this. The night that this happens. I think it might be where someone throws a brick through the window. I know. So and it has. Yeah. So someone threw a brick through it and like barely Mr. Head and like, everything was fine. But that happened. Also, we learned when that happens. The owner of the docks and rescue calls the owner of the property shows up. It's Aiden in just bought the property. Oh, what? Uh huh. Yeah. You'll find out later, um, it comes back around. But I just want to say something that's important to know is Aiden had bought this property relatively recently around loci, he wanted to adopt Sophie. So he bought the property and then he's been working with the dog like the owner of the ducks and rest okay. And like, so he's, you know, yeah. involved. Yeah. And the owner of the ducks rescue is about to go on vacation. Okay, again, and leaves. And it's like Piper, you can take care of this, right? She's like, sure. I don't have too much already. Yeah. Yay. But so she's left in charge. So that's something that's important side note. Again, I didn't really know where it fit in the story. So all right. scene for Piper goes to Aiden's for the first time. She lets her know that she's coming over. She's gonna take the dogs To our walk. Right well walk. I know, that was part of their agreement, because how much it was gonna pay her. She's like, all right, but she's gone for two hour walk every day like, yeah, all right, fair. Um, so she shows up in costume. Because she just got back from a telegram
Margie:job. costume.
Rachel:This one was a like, sexy military costume. Oh my God, so many costumes. Love it. There's more. Um, and she's like, puts her like water pistols on like, the counter and she like calls for Sophie. And she's like, I just gotta change. And then we'll go out and she turns around and runs smack into Aiden. And it looks scares the crap out of her. And he's like, Yeah, I just figured I had some extra time. So I figured I'd come home in the afternoon for a late lunch.
Margie:Oh, my gosh, he's too cute. And
Rachel:late lunch? I have in my notes. Um, and so he's like, Oh, I have some time. I'll go with you. Why didn't you hire her? She questions about that. He just happened to be free. And you know,
Margie:oh, my gosh. So into her so
Rachel:not smooth. No, not at all can queue and he meant he's like, I'm really out of the game. Yeah.
Margie:I know that feel, though. I know that feel at this point. When I'm like flirting. I'm like, How do I do it?
Rachel:But that's okay. Because
Margie:I think I know, I think guys are just kind of like, What is she doing? What did she say?
Rachel:I'm too blunt. For my own good. So I feel like if I tried to flirt or be like, Hey, you want some fuck? You know, as you do, yeah. So they go together. And so she goes and changes and then and they're like joking around about he jokes about her like sexy costumes all the time in like a flirty way and she jokes back. And I have to mention he doesn't get jealous and he doesn't try to stop her from doing Yeah, yeah, side note. Yeah. But if she comes from changing and he's wearing cargo shorts, and a flannel, so sneakers Oh, sure. Brand new guys.
Margie:Absolute mineral,
Rachel:I would die for them man.
Margie:Drives so brand new.
Rachel:He's like, she's like, Hey, you, you know, you updated your uniform. And he's like, Yeah, I haven't put the wrinkles in it yet. What's this kid? Anyway? Oh, my God. I know. Why
Margie:was he wearing a suit?
Rachel:Because it's Aiden. He doesn't know. He's a he's so sweet. I love him. So they go for their walk. It's really cute. They jump together. Aiden has a lot of cars. And it turns out Piper really likes cars. Oh, just can afford nice ones. Right? Yeah. So they're like actually talking about like, all the cool cars he has and the key drivers and all that stuff. So it's actually it's really cute together. God forbid they have actual things in common. Yeah. And are taking the relationship nice and slow and like flirting and shit. Gas gas. Um, so that it's it goes really one the entire time. She's like, is this a date? Or is it just me working for him? It whatever. I like him anyway. And so
Margie:it would be weird though. If like she wasn't into it wasn't into it. And then to say no. That would that that's where it gets a
Rachel:little well, and that's why she's like really confused because she's like, he doesn't mix business and pleasure. So Right. Does that make me Yeah, that's true. Confused. Understandably so. Yeah. So I'm on our way to the center the next day, because she's going back to like, go and work with her friends. They walk in and someone has broken into the center and trashed the front room. Oh, just totally destroyed it. Um, and so they're like trying to figure out what to do. They're like, we need any money and like, we can ask Aiden and Piper in this. You know her I do everything myself. Like, no, we get that we need to get this out. Right. Margaret or Margaret's right? The owner is like she put me in charge. Like we need to figure something out. So they managed to get hold of the local news station. And they run a story story on it and like they get tons of donations to help perfect them. It's great. Aidan shows up again. Which again, so the news anchor lady Holly Hart.
Margie:Oh, wow. Yeah, yeah,
Rachel:she is. Oh my gosh, she's like I don't understand what people don't think I'm sincere. Hey, you like her camera man does not have a name like oh, like she is a funny put up pitch. Oh, yeah. And she's like, been trying to like get a story on Aiden because he's the he was the most eligible bachelor from the island. Yes. Just like,
Margie:yeah, yeah.
Rachel:Yeah. So she's just annoying, right? Um, so they're able to get have a bunch of donations and stuff but it kind of comes out that is definitely like has something going on on the quote unquote business side of things that he's not saying like something happening he doesn't he's not saying anything. So since all these are like kind of a roughly ending seeds, but they go into each other so much that I'm yeah, I'm so they for two weeks straight he happens to be taking a late lunch
Margie:oh my gosh, why didn't he hire her she
Rachel:calls him out on Yeah, she's like what why did you hire me? What are you doing? He's like, Well, I just I mean I, I kind of like hanging out with you and I don't worry, I make up the time later in the evenings like I don't like you know, I'm like I still get my work done I asked the girl on a date her responses like because she's always she's not like, every time she thinks back to her brother. Like which is like he's full of himself. He's right buying ship just to have it like Aiden has all these cars that he collects, but he works on his own cars and does it where his brother or her brother like does it to have it exactly. Show off, right? So every time she's like, is he just showing off? And then she just always okay, well we try and give him the benefit right out. I'm not gonna let that color my minions. And so like when he says that, like, oh, no, I just end up staying late. Usually she's like, you're not just taking off like you actually like, go back and try and like he's working really hard. Yeah. So she's like, you know, yeah, I'm gonna respect for him for that. Um, and but so they decide that they actually go out on a date. It's actually really cute the way it happens because I'm going for a walk along the beach. Right? And like, he they're like joking around and everything and he ends up grabbing her and tossing her into the like waves was really cute, because they were flirting really hard. And so they go back to his place and things are getting a little bit steamy. And oh, wow. And Tamera shows up. Oh, and he immediately like shuts down a little bit. And like, firm handshake or whatever. And well, what happens is he he goes sentimental to a fault. Yeah, a little bit. He goes to like change or whatever. And Tamara like confronts her because Tamara is a jealous bitch. i Yeah, okay. Yeah. And so they like, she like wanders out or basically and she falls Yeah, tumors. batshit crazy. Oh, whoa, hyper hairy. Very good. No, good. No, very bad. No good for you weeks. Oh, and so Piper's like, are the he comes back and he's like, Is everyone okay? Cuz like fallen and tears like, oh, yeah, it was just slippery. She fell. Well,
Margie:bit. Uh huh. What else is she gonna say
Rachel:right. Now and Piper's like, no, she attacked me. Yay. She
Margie:actually said some
Rachel:recalls on their shit. He's like, he's like, No, that's to merit. I've known her for three years though. Cinnamon Roll to Yeah, well, and so she storms out Piper's right. Well, fine. Okay, believe me. It's fine. Yeah, he walks out. And like after and he finally is like, cuz she's she had asked him before. It's like my business or pleasure. Like she straight up asked him. Yeah, and so he can. He's like, pleasure. I like you. And I'm gonna see if I need to find him. stumbling over his words to try to see if they can go steadies god damn cute. Okay, are you are you ready? I'm ready. The cutest goddamn sentimental thing. Okay, so he follows her out. And he says pleasure. It's just like, Excuse me. It's pleasure. I didn't repeat it at the center. You asked me if this was business or pleasure. He closed the distance between them she knew the I don't give a shit look was still in place. But mostly because her face didn't know what expression to make. Oh, undeterred. He braved on its pleasure. He said again, that's, that's if you want it to be for it to be more than business. I mean, and if you don't, I wouldn't want you to feel like you have to leave this job. I know you need it until you're done with school and it's yours for as long as you like, I understand. It's just business for you if it's just business for you, and he was babbling speaking so willingly and hesitantly the opposite of his usual well spoken confidence self. So in all of this, we learned that, you know, he has that outdated business practice and everything. And he's she was asking him about, like, you know, having to grow up real fast and get into this thing as the CEO and he's like, Yeah, my father basically taught me fake it till you make it and you know, worst case scenario, you can always fall back on a firm handshake. So his go to when he gets flustered or stressed out is a firm handshake. Oh,
Margie:my God. Oh,
Rachel:God. damn cute. He's
Margie:so cute.
Rachel:Right? So they decided to go steady. Yeah. Oh, yeah. So he takes her to a really popular restaurant that is like a dog themed restaurant. Oh, my God. Yeah. And they have a great time they're talking they actually tell each other about their history and are like, taking it like normal human right would take a date. And they go to leave and the knows that Holly Hart is there. Oh, no, I know. And so he Like he kind of seems like he's like, I don't want to get out of here. Yeah, kind of like uncomfortable. Yeah. And Piper's first thought is, does he not want to be seen with me? Like, I know, I'm not like, you know, the upper echelon. Yeah. So she kind of feels that way. But again, she's
Margie:like, You need to give him the benefit of the doubt. Right? Like, yeah, definitely
Rachel:not the case. And so they get out and he does, like, they talk about it, like immediate after. And she's like, No, it's just that, like, I know, you aren't very comfortable in front of cameras and stuff. Like when they did the news story, you were really uncomfortable. And I don't want you to feel like I know that. That's something that I do have, and I don't want you to feel like you're always thinking about her. Um, and not in a creepy way. No, wait, so they leave. And as they're walking down an alleyway to get out to the main street, because they got the back to avoid her. Yeah. Um, all of a sudden, these headlights flick on at the end of the alleyway. Start driving down the alleyway. Oh, yeah. So they start running. And it doesn't look like they're gonna make it out of the alley. And so go Piper, she literally like, pushes him into a like alcove kind of deal. Yeah, out of the way. And she jumps off on top of a beat like a Buick that's parked there. And like, the car hits the car that she's on, and she gets knocked in between the car and the like, whoa. And like, falls down. She's okay. Yeah. It's like this whole thing of like, I love that she pushed him. Yeah. And then he's like, Oh, my God. Oh, braking. She's fine. Yeah, bruised, but she's okay. Um, but so Piper just keeps having these run ins with the police. Like, this shit keeps happening. And they're like, We don't know who's doing it, but we think they're targeting you.
Margie:Oh, I don't know. Yeah. Mystery,
Rachel:right is a mystery to me. Right? You're right. Um, yeah, so don't worry. They're all okay. Dogs and humans are okay. Although Aiden is scared. shitless because yeah, Piper was knocked unconscious for a hot minute. Not for a long time. Oh, like it was long enough that he's just like, Oh my God, where are you? Where are you are like he didn't know where she was. Oh, right. So Piper goes to the center to study after the after an incident in his office. So Aiden had offered for her to come to the office and study. Like in his office, he needed it. Because he knew she needed like quiet distance, right? She just come out of a gig. So she had like, a coat over it. So you couldn't see her. I'm trying to roll with costume was for this one. Um, I be construction work. I don't remember. Wait. Um, but they. He's like, he loves her costumes. Like he's super into her costumes. Oh, hey, hey. And they just like pawn back and forth. Costumes constantly. But so there's a little bit of an incident where like, her like his boss, or hit not his boss, his, like one of his partners comes in and he was an Old Spice guy. And he's like, you know, like, what is she? She shouldn't be here. And so she left. She was like, it's fine. You know, I'll go to the center and study. It's cool. Yeah. So she leaves goes to the center to study and when she walks in, oh, the dogs are going nuts. And she's like, you know, hi. It's just me. It's fine. And then she stopped. She's like, Wait, there's a bell that we had above the door? Doesn't was gone from when they ransacked it. We didn't make any noise coming in here. Oh, why are the dogs breaking out? Yeah. She see someone in the kitchen. It's a policeman outfit. That's what it is. Okay, because it comes into play in this next little bit. Okay, so she sees someone in the kitchen and as a dude, dousing everything with gasoline and he lights it on fire. So she promised her her fights back. She's like, Oh, and so she grabs out so she had like been given with her pull. This is why I remember it's policemen had been given like a Luna's little plastic baton. Yeah, she replaced it with a rolling pin that she painted. Because she's like, I've had way too many guys knuckles like touching me. Yeah. So she pulls out this rolling pin. Essentially the shirts like trying to fight back and beat him up and like to get him to stop. But he gets away. And so she's like, grabs the fire extinguisher tries to put up like super hot. There's no way she can get into she's like, Okay, I need to save the dogs. Yeah, she runs back to the dogs and starts trying to get them out and into the back courtyard. And ainger that because he had like, he was like, Okay, I'm done with work. I'm gonna follow you and keep you company. Yes, you're studying? Oh, yeah, I want to show up. He's like, fuck 70 Right. So he grabs another fire extinguisher and like they can they start trying to like put up the fire as best they can. And then they helped he helped her get all the dogs out and everything. So now she's in a skimpy policeman talking to the police about the fire that was just started to destroy to the center. Oh, the
Margie:poor center.
Rachel:No, right and this like throughout all of this, like all the shifts been happening to the center. No one can get ahold of Marilyn because she's on vacation on a cruise. So they're like, We need to talk to you, but we can't. Right. Right. So, Piper's just like, fuck, oh my god. Um, and so the police basically decide, okay, someone's totally after you something's happening. So after all of that, the Aiden takes Piper because Piper's car been broken into two. Oh my god, really? After. Yeah, so Aiden takes her back to the apartment. She's like, he's like, you sure you can stay with me? Like, please come stay with me instead of your apartment by yourself? And she's like, No, I'm fine. Like, she still is not asking like,
Margie:come on mine. Personal safety?
Rachel:No. Well, so she gets up to her apartment and someone broke into her apartment and trashed the place. Oh, my God.
Margie:That someone is just after her though. It's like, they're like, they don't want to just just get something out of her. It's like they really want to make her life a living hell, right.
Rachel:Yeah, in the last three weeks before? That's right. Um, I think we're into like, a week now, but uh, so Aiden's like after all this, like she's there, she's in her skimpy, whatever costume. The police are there. They find someone to broken in and cut the center out of her panties, which is horrifying.
Margie:Oh, my God is going oh, I
Rachel:know. Like you're staying with me. Yeah. And then her landlord shows up. And he's like, Oh, you are evicted two months off of your rent, like behind on your rent? Like, so much property damage. And also no dogs allowed? Yeah, Colin is they're evicted. And Aiden bless him. It's like, oh, that's my dog. And he's like, No, save it. I can see the dog food. Like he like Yeah. tries but and so he's like, You have three days to get your shit out. I'm sorry. Your you know? Yeah.
Margie:I mean, honestly, it's kind of fair. It is. But it's not really
Rachel:shitty that like my hat on my apartment just got broken into and ransacked and you're going to kick me out? Yeah. With all of my shit everywhere. Yeah. Yeah, but so he was like, Okay, you're staying with me tonight. Deal with it. Yeah. So they go back to his place. And they have a little bit of a fight. God forbid they actually fight like humans, because it's just like, help you. Yeah, I want to help you. And she's like, No, I can do this. He's like, No, and they actually have like, a heart to heart of like, it's not bad to accept help. It's yeah. Okay. Like, and actually, like, kind of, oh, no, he breaks down her arguments and is like, No, this is why it's fine. And like, all that stuff. And I have an adult human conversation about communication. To be fair, we get into no commute, we get into the wrong country. For now we're doing Yeah. And they get to get in.
Margie:And it's a good get to get.
Rachel:I was into it. And then I wasn't, it's because so well, they're tough. She's like, Fine, maybe we can come to an agreement of how you can help me and like, like actually talking about like, okay, like, give me money, lend me money, something like that. And so they just continue talking in court ponds. Always just sexy time.
Margie:Oh, it's actually really funny. I get to be funny, but it's also not
Rachel:like getting to a point where it's, it's really funny. And then it gets to a point where it's okay, he could have stopped and that would have been fine. I could have ended it there who much? Yeah, but it was really funny to start right. Um, so it's actually time happens, um, and, like, feeling pretty good. They actually use a condom they mentioned and they actually talked about him masturbating. Okay, not something that happens to her. Not in a creepy way. Like in a we're in a relationship. Hey, kind of this kind of stuff happens when I do this. Yes, exactly. Which first times for everything, right. So they get to get in. It's pretty good. Even with the court. You know, me and my, yeah, so I love that and until it got to be too much. Even for you. Even for me. Um, I feel like the punch should stop after the first orgasm personally, you know? Exactly. Um, so she wakes up the next morning. He's already gone to work. But he, she like goes downstairs and he like left her a thing of chocolates and like, which was not the first time we did it. The first time she ever went to his house to group the dogs. There was a little thing of chocolates that had her name on it, because she mentioned how much she loved chocolate. He's so cute. He is really so she wakes up and she's gonna go to the center but she's like, I don't have a car. Yeah, I'm not gonna borrow one of his like Jaguars or whatever. Right? And walks out and turns out he had had Tamera take her car in the shop and like it effects in the morning. So her cars fixed. Yeah, it's actually like a new coat of paint. Like really? Oh my god. It's an old car. Yeah. And she's just they've actually texted this was written in 2016 text. Thank you so much. And like I have like a little text conversation. So very cute. And so she goes to the center and essentially pulls up she finds out with her friends. It's that land is up for rezoning. Because all everything on that land is getting demolish what and apartments are being
Margie:Aiden owns that land. Hmm. Oh, no. He was like over here are a boy and he just swiftly went over here though, boy,
Rachel:don't worry. It's a temporary change. Fine, but maybe this is where we get into the rom com no communication, but there's a reason for the miscommunication. Okay. So, her and her friends are like, What the fuck? Yeah, we need to go talk to Aiden about that. Right? She's in a suit. Sexy Supergirl costume at this point. Amazing. Yep. So, she up there we go. So they go over. She's cuz. So Holly is there? And it's like, Are you sure you're uncouth baby Aiden is like just playing you and like all the seven like planting all these seeds, right? She's like, instead of jumping to conclusions, she's like, No, I'm gonna go talk to him. Yeah, I need to get off. There you go. Good. Yeah, and one of our friends is like, yes, that's a good idea. And the other one is like, what if it is him though?
Margie:Like, but if it is, you still need to talk to him. Right? He's like, gonna work this shit out.
Rachel:Exactly. Yeah. So they the three of them go together to his place like, called investments by brain costume, wearing a raincoat over top. But you know, yeah. The Secretary won't let her in. Because again, she like, he's in a meeting. Whatever. Well, we're gonna be out. It's a long meeting. Well, he has to take a break at some point. They called in for lunch like that. Like, Oh, yeah. Why doesn't you
Margie:text him or column? So her friend.
Rachel:So the way that hasn't happened yet? I don't know. Okay, good question. Um, but so her friend sidles over and accidentally knocks over a vase. And shatters Oh, and the lady's like I'm gonna call secured just like you can't, I can't move I might cut myself on this glass. Like to strike the lady and Piper does run fast. So she makes it in his office. And she's like, well, he's not here. I'll sit and wait. Yeah, wait for him. And she happened to see on his desk there. Oh, no, no, no, no plans for an apartment building.
Margie:And no
Rachel:names like they were joking around about like, all of the estates that he owns and everything. And they were joking around about that joking around about that right. And she had like, thrown out like a really dumb sounding like over the top name. And
Margie:that's the dumb over the top name that she begged. Like, what a stab in the
Rachel:gut. Yeah, and so she's like, Fuck, I gotta get out of here. Yeah, it goes to leave. And she hears in the hallway she hides in like a closet. And she hears him say he's like talking to Old Spice Guy and saying stuff like like I thought you said you would get rid of the dogs. Well, I did deny and like that kind of stuff back and forth. Is she being smart? Recorded at all on her phone? And plus out of their names? Like what the fuck and like, tries to go after her? No, they book it out of there. Yeah. And and go to the street to the police. And on the way out like she's like having to like she's trips and falls like onto another car. And it's this car that has a front end totally smashed in. You know, like the person that Yeah. Oh worth mentioning. It's to Maris Prius. So I only say that because she realized that at that moment. So she goes to the police and she and now we're officially into the wrapping up side of Okay. Part of me hoped it would just take a total about face and surprise, he was the bad guy. But yeah, it doesn't. But so she goes to the police talk to them, gives them the thing and she sees him as she's leaving the police station interviewing with like a bunch of people and everything, like PR lady next to him talking about how like, you know, we would never would accept that type of business practices. He's been fired. Like all this stuff. He will be and so she's like, great. His like Old Spice Guy. Definitely. He made him he had a fall guy. Fantastic. Yeah, she leaves. The next day, her friends. She's finally trying to accept help from people. Her friends are like you're moving into my spare bedroom. Like, we'll help you out. You have three days you make it work. Let's do this. So she helped they help. One of them is helping her move out. And she gets a call from the other friend. And she's like, Hey, you need to come to this address. So they show up and they walk in and this beautiful Victorian style like house that's been totally renovated. And on the front, it has the name of the dachshund rescue. And so she's like, What the fuck is happening? Yeah. And her boss shows up. I'm the one who owns the train wreck. Yeah, she's like, Guys, I had no idea what was happening. I'm so sorry. I was seasick. The whole time. I couldn't contact anybody. I'm so sorry. Like, I have no idea, right? I didn't want to tell you about this because I wanted it to be a surprise because you got to work so hard and like, oh, and she's like, I'm sorry. Like, I knew that the other one was going to be like, all demolished. And we were working on this aside, actually, he was paying for it out of his pocket. It's his charity work. And
Margie:she's like, Oh, no. Oh, no.
Rachel:Fuck. And so it's like, this whole thing. It's a comedy of errors. It isn't really Yeah. And so here's my, I literally have a bullet cyst turns out, and then there's like 10 sub bullets. So it's already a reading of this coincidental Ray, it turns out, new center was being built in a better location, the previous owner knew about it, but was trying to keep it under wraps as a surprise for the girls for working so hard. The previous owner couldn't be reached because she was on a cruise vacation and very sick. He was the one building the new center out of his own dialog. So none of his business partners knew he was doing it because it was his own money that he was spending. The previous owner wouldn't tell any of them about it, and wouldn't let Aiden tell anybody about it, because she wanted it to be as such a surprise and she didn't know about all the shit that was happening in his business partner partner was the one being the asshole and paying people to go in and like set the other one on fire. Because having not knowing about the new one. He thought Aiden was like you need to get them out of there. And so he's like, I'll get him out of there. And apparently, he's been doing that for years, and is doing doing a lot of shitty business practices.
Margie:So Aiden Oh, nice. Right Old Spice. So he's Aiden says, like you need to get the dogs out of there. Yeah, and he does it in like a really he's trying to do and really sketchy ways
Rachel:which apparently is how he's done business forever.
Margie:Oh, great. No, come on. Cinnamon roll. Oh my so now
Rachel:Old Spice is going to jail. Yay. Tomorrow was the one that tried to run them over in the Prius because she's jealous a jealous bitch rose. And Laura was the one that was doing some of her like the the vandalism like breaking into a car and vandalized stuff because sled. And this is so this is one I didn't maybe go into it enough in the back like previously. So as part of a telegram job, there's one dude that calls her for a telegram almost every week. Ooh, fucking creepy. Well, this last time he had installed a mirror behind her. And she's like, No, I'm never coming back. Yeah, he's been stalking her. Oh, he's the one that broke in and cut out the hole. There's just like four people that are one life, right? And so she like has this realization of fuck. This is all on me. I mean, it's not all on me. But like, I got to. I got to do this. Right. Yeah, something's wrong, right. And Ames in the back doing an interview about it with Holly. And so she sees him and she's like, Can Can we? And he liked apparently Cesar like, because he sees calling and he's like, starts looking around for her. Oh, he sees her. And apparently his face is just like, Oh, I'm so sorry. look on his face. And so she like they go off and talk. And he's like, okay, the police showed me what was on your, like, played the thing the recording you had? Yeah, I completely understand what it sounded like. Yeah, so sorry. Like he's like, not mad at her for zooming at all because he's like, I get it. Yeah, sorry. That's I couldn't tell you because, yeah. And so they're like she was looking on. I'm sorry. You're totally right. I'm absolutely sorry. And he takes her in the back and shows her a new addition to the building, which is a fully decked out fat clinic with her name. Doctor, you know, Piper
Margie:Somers. Like I'm gonna be a leather room.
Rachel:Button. The book does end with them having sex on the exam table? I don't know. I feel about that sounds uncomfortable. Yeah. And they're making puns the whole time. Who's on top him?
Margie:Yeah. It's her office. I'd rather she be on top.
Rachel:Yeah, well, you know, it just doesn't I've seen fit. Like examples. They're not comfortable.
Margie:The gold? Yeah,
Rachel:exactly. Yeah. So they're back together. And they're really happy with each other. And it's a normal human healthy relationship. Even though all the bark wild shit. Leading up to it. Yeah.
Margie:It's very cute. I think that it's like, a little bit. Some of its overly cute. Yeah, the plot is a little messy.
Rachel:I agree. Yeah. So getting into reviewing that's exactly what I was gonna say. So Aiden is fucking adorable. Yes. And he's like, okay fleshed out. I would like to more for backstory, like you'd get the whole like, he was a Playboy and then his dad died and he had to step up right? He did to almost too much so he like hasn't been on dates and forever so he owns suits because that's what he wears and like, like some breaking him like, like when she sees him she joked around about like, if like Be careful next to tie in shirts. And when she saw in the last little bit, he's in a hole. Like, he like. He listens to her. Yeah, like tries to like do things that are who you think she'll enjoy. Yeah. And so I would have liked a little bit more to his backstory. But like he was defined, he was well defined enough that it didn't feel like he was just a placeholder. Right? But he was like, a good person. Mm hmm. Is this the first CEO we've had? That's just a good person. No, I
Margie:think we had that one who that came guy. He was a hero. He was decent person. He just had a lot of bad shit happened to him. Was that that was the one where a murderer murderer murderer a dude who was like trying to stab the girl shank the girl in broad daylight.
Rachel:Oh, yeah, yeah. Yeah, he still had his shit though. So
Margie:the ship but it was like it made sense kind of shit. Yeah. Shit. No one was I would say borderline. No, he was an AR boy. He was an AR boy.
Rachel:He was. Well, he was the one that like had her breakup with someone else that for?
Margie:Oh, yeah, that's right. Boy, this is the Friday I
Rachel:know. Right? This is the first hour boy so yeah, yeah. Like and he is. He's created a new tear on the our boy spectrum. The cinnamon roll our boy. God, he's cute. Yeah, he's so trusting and loving to a fault. Yeah. Which is like, it's cute. Because you do see that difference between like, Okay, I'm doing business now. I have to you know, you see that change in personality. But it's not comical. It's not that like,
Margie:right. It's like, like the shade being with it the way that they drive it and some of them
Rachel:Yeah, exactly. Like he definitely does that. But as a person. No, yeah, yeah. And yeah, it's uh, I love him. I give him I would say a four out of five for him. Just because I would have liked to see him more developed. Yeah, he's such an actual good person and has enough of a backstory that he is
Margie:very like that. 2005 Mr. Darcy? A little bit. That's what he reminded me. I just like a little awkward, sweet, full
Rachel:awkward sweet to a fall. And honestly, like, he really cares about her like, yeah, really cares
Margie:about Yeah. But like the coming over, like The Walking the dog with her is so just like Mr. Darcy bursting. I just like talking to Elizabeth. She's like, What are you doing? Right?
Rachel:Well, and it was like, it's funny, because you get, especially when he talks about, like, details are specific. He's like, I'm pretty out of practice with this whole dating thing. And like, I'm not great at it. Because like, I never had to before, right? millionaire or billionaire playboy. And now I haven't done it in a long time. Right and the amount of practice and he's like, so I didn't really know how to get you to hang out with me. But so yeah, we literally paid her just and that's why he was like, let me know whenever you're coming by so that he could come by
Margie:oh my god, that's so
Rachel:socially awkward to ask loved. Oh, my God, right. Her ships had a really interesting backstory. And I appreciated that like her baggage. didn't stay baggage. Like she didn't let it. She didn't let her baggage like interfere with her because even when she was like a he has a bunch of cars. My brother like is he flaunting them for me? And then he starts talking about questions like No, actually, he cares actually. Like, yeah, like he she's she she quickly is like, Okay, I'm not going to make him he's not my brother, like Marty's messing with our sound dampening blankets are very professional and technical sound dampening blackberries, you want to grab a blanket come over there. There's one on the ground right behind
Margie:you. There is I thought it was this one. No,
Rachel:I have two of those. Okay. Um, yeah. So she's very, like, willing to be like, No, he's not my brother.
Margie:I'm trying to get right to the laugh listeners. I'm fail. I'm
Rachel:a goddamn professional. So she's very much like, you know, he's not my brother. I'm not going to equate him to that. Let him I'll make the decisions based on his actions. Right. So that was really cool. She there was character growth because she actually like, started accepting. Okay, maybe I'm not fine. I do need help. Yeah, three weeks, I just need a little bit of help. So I would call her like another four, three and a half four. And then the plot is a little little nuts. So that's probably like a middle of mine three. Yeah, like it was
Margie:give it two and a half just because like the all of those different people he was trying to antagonize versus a little
Rachel:right. I will say when I was reading it, it very much came across as as like one they described everything. It's like all of those situations in and of themselves are plausible. Yeah, the thing that makes it a little bit weird is that it's everything happening at once. To be fair, Laura has been doing that shit to her forever. So first off Yes, Laura? Yeah. creepy dude was fucking creepy, right? And Tamara is a jealous bitch. So like he gets things you're like I get and then there's Old Spice who's just has shitty business practices. But the thing that like the reason I say three instead of like two and a half is because all of those things in themselves are plausible. And all of them happening at once in context of the story. Kind of makes sense. Okay, because it just happens that all these things in her life happening once like she ends up starting to go out with Aiden which makes to marriage LS because Tamir is not had to deal with him dating someone before right? And then she tells us guy I'm never coming back to your house because you're creepy. Yeah. And then like, all of this stuff like Laura is just Laura. Like all that was happening at the same time. But it's not as unbelievable in the context of the story because it kind of comes across me. Yeah, it's still pretty unbelievable, but it's not that bad. That's kind of what brings it to a three from Overall I'd give this like a seven like, pick it up definitely if you see it and you want like a wholesome
Margie:shocking cover
Rachel:must love winners and I do want to read some of these chapter title names and also the next book in the series which follows one of her friends is called Beauty and the winner.
Margie:Oh my God what is I feel like she could have sold a lot more copies if she hadn't had much love winners. I don't know it's pretty good. It's
Rachel:pretty good. Chapter Seven. Never mix business with winners.
Margie:Oh my god.
Rachel:Chapter 10 Sick pup chapter 16 Copy Whoa,
Margie:my god. I can't get we're done.
Rachel:Chapter 24 News hound. Oh my god. Chapter 28 Dogs breakfast. Oh my god. Chapter 30 in the dog house. Soup dog. Detective running out of there run out of ideas there on that lie with dogs wake up with
Margie:fleas. Oh my god. Call off the dogs. Oh my god, we're dying. It's really funny. Okay, so but
Rachel:but okay. All right, so
Margie:we're not reading
Rachel:that when I wasn't reading that. So I went down a little bit of memory lane. Just for shits and giggles Did you ever read red wall when you were little? Yeah, I fucking loved red wall when I did it, but I understand. I loved it. Yeah, cuz my mom was ready to me. And I mean, they're still like solid. They're like novels. And there's a lot of death in them.
Margie:Right? Just fun. Yeah.
Rachel:So I picked up a couple of those because I was like is a little bit stressful at work and I was like, You know what, I want to go back
Margie:down this path. See? That's that's that's good thinking me. I'm just like I'm stressed out you know, I'm gonna add more stress. Make me feel that
Rachel:day. I was just like, I'm stressed out I'm gonna read about fuzzy and all the tasty food that they like to eat. And then murder but more fuzzy animals. Yeah, so I actually read a lot of Redwall
Margie:my brother loved those books. I just could not get into it.
Rachel:I've also been on a huge Sailor Moon cake but that's a watching thing not a reading thing with the
Margie:old one or the new one
Rachel:last one classic sailor shit cuz you mentioned the Legendary Silver Crystal
Margie:there it is. Legendary Silver Crystal every time it's just the Silver Crystal crystal
Rachel:give it its full Legendary Silver Crystal Oh yeah. Oh my god. All right. Yep. So that's that's pretty much what I've been consuming. off time.
Margie:Good I think that's it Wow, did we kill it again?
Rachel:Oh, a little Yeah, actually. We did very good. Really
