Rachel:

Hello, and welcome to textual tension. I am your co host, Rachel, and every other week, I pop on in here and tell you what's going down in our little world. It's been a pretty chill two weeks over here in textual tension land, not a ton neuter report. But, uh, hey, we'd like to hear from you. And, you know, one thing we have done in the past two weeks is we've done a lot of chatting with our awesome patrons, we had an amazing, amazing live stream over the past few weeks, and it was so much fun, we read so many terrible book, descriptions, and it was an absolute blast. So if you want to get in on that, maybe head on over to patreon.com/textual tension. There's all kinds of really cool stuff there, including early release on episodes and bloopers and talking about the sex and some free stuff. If you don't particularly want to become a patron, there is actually some free episodes and stuff on there, you can check out. And hey, we'd really appreciate it. And if you are not in a position right now, to support us on Patreon, which is totally cool. We'd really appreciate it if you would maybe tell someone about us. We don't pay to advertise the show. So it actually like really helps. If you tell people about the show, or leave a five star review, that super helps, too. And we would really appreciate that that is absolutely awesome of you, I would dare say you would be our favorite person if you did that. And hey, if you want to tell us that you did that, we like to hear that about that too. And you can do that at any of our social medias textual tension pond, across the board. And on our social media on Instagram specifically, we also have links to our Discord, which is a great place to come hang out talk about books, and projects and pets and all kinds of stuff. So check that out if you want to kind of get in on that action. I think that is actually about it, which is kind of funny. Normally, it's not this fast. Hey, oh. So hey, thank you guys for hanging out and listening to my little spiel. And you know, as every other week as my reward to you. Let me give you some good good romance novel wisdom. I think the sweetest thing that that that someone can call their partner is Angel. Especially if like me, you're a giant flaming series of wheels and eyes. That was done so. Anyway, hey, thank you guys so much for listening. And without further ado, let me present to you episode 77. Angel Fire, not the website

Margie:

tearing me apart from

Rachel:

Hello, and welcome to textual tension, a love hate relationship with romance novels. I am your co host Rachel and I am your co host Margie. Every other week, one of us reads and summarizes a romance novel for our unsuspecting co host. And together we unpack what the fuck just happened. Hello, friends.

Unknown:

Hi. I love Margie extended her arms. I'm gonna add that mental image in every time. There was like she was opening up her world to her world of fuckery.

Margie:

Yes, yeah.

Unknown:

Welcome. You're welcoming.

Margie:

Well come in. Let me give you a what a delicate labia. Make yourself at home. Oh, good. Wonderful.

Unknown:

I'm always looking for one to rest upon.

Rachel:

Hi, Amanda. How's it going?

Unknown:

It's going great. I'm so excited to be here.

Rachel:

Why don't you tell the beautiful listeners about your beautiful podcast.

Unknown:

Hi. So my name is Amanda Smith. I am a Twitter person because that's what I do with all my free time and the co host of a podcast called disaster girls which is a pod I loving podcasts about disaster movies big and small. So like we cover things like 2012 but we also recently covered the made for TV movie San Andres quake. Oh, so there's a good yeah, it's a broad range we cover everything. My friend Jordan and I are just we really on ironically love these movies and we get great guests. So we we've had really awesome guests who have been on and then sometimes it's just the two of us yelling animatedly about disaster movies and animal chaos and things like that. So

Rachel:

what is your favorite Disaster Movie?

Unknown:

Okay, so that's there's I can't give one. It's just impossible. So there's it's kind of like a Holy Trinity for me a volcano. Ooh, that's

Rachel:

a good one. Great One Twister, which is I was gonna say Twister and the perfect storm personally,

Unknown:

so Ooh, okay, that we actually did that with somebody who's been on your pod, Emily Edwards. Oh, yeah. The whole podcast talking about like trash, New England. Men and how attractive we all are to them. Yeah,

Rachel:

it's a problem.

Unknown:

Oh, terrible. I mean, we all Emily and I are it was a terrible we were just like yep trash, just the grimy or the better bring it. If he looks like he's gonna get in a bar fight because he's bored then yes

Rachel:

done there that's a movie full of

Margie:

problematic Yes, PR that's my type. I'm into that shit you

Rachel:

ever want to have that killed for you just go on Spotify and listen to the audiobook of oh gosh, I'm trying to. I'm a trash human. I can't remember the exact name but the Lovecraft story about in Smith, New England and they're all how you like. Pardon the accent? Awesome. Hey,

Unknown:

if you want to ruin it, I'm Jewish and I've been to rural New England. That'll ruin it really quick.

Rachel:

Yeah, that would do it. That's a bummer.

Unknown:

That doesn't that's not a great combination of things to be so

Rachel:

surely fantasy? Not great. Okay, fantastic.

Unknown:

Well, yeah, and I'm a big fan. So I'm so excited you guys. I mean, like, you guys got me through my move into my apartment two years ago, I just listened to all of your app. Like that's how I found you guys. I'm so excited to be here.

Rachel:

Well, we're so happy to hear so. Okay, so a little bit of background for both the book and having you on. This was like a really quick turnaround. Hey, we're recording this weekend. Do you want to jump on with us kind of thing? Because I can I just say Margie sent me your tweet. And it made me just so so. So smiley, about how pure it is of me giggling at my own romance novel wisdoms, which I appreciate.

Unknown:

Yeah. I wouldn't. It was it was those last it was this last episode with the space, the Space Academy and I was reading and you like, he just giggled at us. Like, that's just heartwarming. Like, it doesn't matter. She's doing this for herself. And I love like, I love a I love, like delighted by themselves.

Margie:

I always love the like, was it, it was the hothead episode would just like around the quarter, Zach peak did it was like really.

Rachel:

But so, when we have guests on, I usually like to, I try to pick a book that's kind of in the genre of the podcast. And it has to be terrible. Because everyone needs a rite of passage. The problem is that the book that I had read for this weekend was not that it wasn't, it was pretty good. And it was kind of, I don't wanna say was boring, because it was a good book, but it was just kind of like your run of the mill. I was like, Oh, that's not gonna work. So I went back in my brain of what else have I read that I haven't done for the podcast? And I found one that I read months ago,

Margie:

this morning, me and Rachel got brunch. And I was like, so is your book? Is it like terrible? Is it bananas? What is it and she and she just paused and she was like, it's a time?

Rachel:

It is. It's one of those books that I loved it when I read it. And then I went back and was like reviewing my notes. And I was like, Oh okay. It's gonna be great. So I'm going to go ahead and send you guys. I'm going to drop it in the chat. Oh, oh,

Margie:

boy. Oh. We do love the lady. We do. We do.

Rachel:

So, so I'm gonna let you guys describe that book cover right there.

Margie:

Okay. Well, the book is called Angels blood and it is a Nalini singe novel, but wow, that is Yeah. So it looks like there's a background of a city. And this girl is standing in front of the city but the city I don't know if there's like there's some sort of light descending from above that looks like that makes it look like the city is almost on fire behind her. But she is not looking at that. She is sort of looking up at the sky somewhere else. She has very like white blond hair. Yeah, she's got like Khaleesi

Unknown:

hair. Yeah, I

Margie:

was literally thinking the same thing. But with a very like Tomb Raider outfit.

Unknown:

Yeah, no, she's she's got her midriff exposed for battle.

Margie:

Right? Does she have a dagger at her side? That's very like out in the open so it's like Don't fuck with me and

Rachel:

there's a dagger if you look I want you to look really closely around the terrifyingly passionately awesome. You'll love it quote, underneath the, the the author's name. Do you see anything fun there?

Unknown:

Because I do is wait, what is that? Wait, is there something on the side is that dragon? It's not.

Margie:

That's what I was thinking to it looks like or something flying.

Rachel:

So Go ahead.

Unknown:

I said a crow. Oh my gosh, this this movie is this about killer. Wait, wait I figured she was the angel and that's why there was all the light around. Nah

Rachel:

babe. It's a literal fucking Angel. Oh, sure. Just just eating from the sky.

Margie:

Also, it's so subtle though, that you can't really tell that it's an angel. So I'm gonna go out there and say it's not well done.

Rachel:

That's the first time I saw it. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Margie:

I mean, if that's what it is, it's still it is what it reminds me of is it's kind of like in a Batman when he gets those like wide wings out. Yeah, it's like his glider thingy. Yeah, a falling was style

Rachel:

thing and really like is it looks like a silhouette of just wings. And then there's just two little legs and two little arms sticking out of a

Margie:

baby that's I just suddenly had the thought of in the Bible. Angels are described top five like they're not. Yeah, yeah. No,

Unknown:

there's an entire running joke on Jewish Twitter about like the about the appearance of angels in the Bible, like horrifying. They're

Rachel:

not gonna lie. This book would be about 12,000 times more interesting if that were the case.

Margie:

Also, though, those biblical creatures, I could hardly imagine that they have blood

Rachel:

now. Yeah, they don't. Yeah, well, what? So who made it? Would you like to read the description or to Margie to?

Margie:

I can do it. Yeah, like, oh, yeah, please. Okay. Well, it's really

Rachel:

short. Um, you don't have to read the bolded part.

Unknown:

Oh, I mean, I will congratulations to Nalini Singh for being a major new talents. Yeah. Major news. Wow. Okay, vampire hunter, Elena Deveraux is hired by the dangerously beautiful arcing Archangel Raphael. But this time, it's not a wayward Vamp she has to track. It's an arc. It's an archangel gone bad. The job will put Elena in the midst of a killing spree like no other and pull her to the razor's edge of passion. Even if the hunt doesn't destroy her. succumbing to Rafael's seductive touch just may for when Archangels play mortals break.

Rachel:

So I know we talked about angels, but how would you feel about also maybe some vampires in there?

Unknown:

I mean, two great tastes that taste great together.

Rachel:

Angels, vampire

Margie:

vampires and Jedi widly like, feel like I don't have a reaction. Could I just have no idea how this is good? Yeah, no idea in the middle of that. And it was very short. I was like, okay, she could have ended up with like the bad Archangel or like the guy that hired her. Yeah, no,

Rachel:

it could go anywhere. Right? Yeah,

Margie:

it could literally go

Unknown:

halfway through that paragraph. I forgot that Raphael was the one who hired her.

Margie:

Yeah.

Rachel:

When again, when I read this, I really liked it. I got the second one to read. But then I started reading it. And it was like the Twilight phenomenon where you're reading it and you're like, I'm so into this and then you stop and you're like, Wait, damn,

Margie:

I have read books I've never read. I've read Nalini before mismanage and I really. I do like her saying I don't remember what it is. But I've only read books where that are not like paranormal anything to do with that. It's like real world. And those are really good. I will say that there was one I read from the series that was like more quote, quote unquote, normal. That was actually really boring. So I'm eager to see

Rachel:

I mean, it's, I still stand by it's pretty decent. It's also Buck fucking wild.

Margie:

Crazy. So let's get into it never would have imagined what it's called Angel.

Rachel:

A lot in the series. So let's quickly go into some triggers here. Guess please. Okay, a lot of death. And not just death. There's a lot of like, trophy styles like, like posing things and like playing with dead bodies and a lot of it

Margie:

so like serial killer shit.

Rachel:

A lot of that. There's a lot that where there's just a lot of blood. There's a Buse there of a child.

Margie:

Oh, good.

Rachel:

Ah, oh, and torture. Um, and I'm gonna go ahead and put mind control in there because it's not consensual. Um, you know? And

Margie:

the thing you want it to be consensual Yeah, it's

Rachel:

fine. Uh, and I think that that's about it. Oh,

Unknown:

casual. Yeah, casual child abuse situation. Sure. He's pretty casual. Yeah.

Rachel:

I mean, this this,

Margie:

this all does not spark joy.

Rachel:

I mean, the good thing. It's not good, it's in the past. Let's get into a little bit of background before we get into our characters. So angels are a thing. It's important. I'm from where, who knows, they just kind of always been around. Also, each Archangel controls a different region of the world. And so their archangels and their angels, there are seven, which was

Margie:

responsible for America,

Rachel:

several

Margie:

rabbis, a poor job.

Rachel:

Rabbi Raphael is in charge of the east coast of Canada. Yeah, so better, there are better angels. And basically you become an archangel through age and power. So you have to be real fucking old. And the older you are, the more powerful you get. And so you'll like, unlock new abilities kind of, but you kind of sometimes start to lose touch with humanity, and thus go insane.

Unknown:

Oh, so it's like being a senior manager. But yeah, like, yeah, you go mad with

Margie:

your manager, but, uh, I buy I glasses directors. Yeah.

Rachel:

So angels. Also Ark, angels can make vampires. That is how vampires are made. Angels make them? Oh, yes. That's a new twist

Unknown:

on. Right. Generally not associate those. Yeah,

Rachel:

it's an interesting concept. And

Unknown:

why does one make a vampire? Will they get into that? Oh, yes,

Rachel:

a little bit. They get it. Okay. It's, it's not a major plot point. But I will go ahead and throw in there. There's like a toxin, I guess that builds up in angels and archangels blood that they have to periodically release. And what it is, is it poisons quote, unquote, people and turns them into vampires. So people can essentially submit to say, I want to be a vampire. And if you if the toxin won't kill you, like some people, it kills some people it doesn't. Then you can become a vampire. Usually it is in return for years of service to that Archangel. So there's a lot of like, like bodyguards or whatever that are like putting in years of service, in exchange to be immortal. So

Margie:

it's voluntary, as well. So okay,

Unknown:

they're vampires are just like remoras for Archangels. Yeah, like those fish that swim along and clear bugs off of sharks. Pretty much.

Margie:

That's a very good analogy.

Rachel:

No, what? What Elena actually does is She's a vampire hunter. And what that is, is that she's hunting down vampires that tried to escape from their years of service, and returning them to their Archangels

Margie:

Oh, Marie.

Rachel:

Oh, yeah. Hey, slavery, probably. Yeah. Voluntary though.

Margie:

But like they ran away, that means there's a problem. If you've escaped, you've escaped for a reason.

Unknown:

Again, if you quit your job, and I grab glasses direct, and your manager is like, get back here for this shift. I'm gonna go send this

Margie:

blonde for you, you know what,

Rachel:

I I will also say that, um, and this is part of what I was going back to the book of where I was like, oh, there's not a lot of humanity in the angel world. Get ready for a lot of like, Oh, I'm going to just, for instance, one guy tried to escape his ark Angel was brought back and all of his skin was flayed off his body because he's immortal and turned into a purse. Don't worry, he regenerated. Oh,

Margie:

yeah, I just I'm sorry. I'm still really stuck out that I buy directly. I'm just imagining like a manager hiring the Mandalorian

Rachel:

I buy direct for a second. Jesus Christ. Okay, humans are still a thing. And also, you don't fuck with ours? Anyone here? a comics fan? Like DC Comics. Like casually? Okay. Oh, hello, Charles. Just the head come in. Um, do you know the injustice storyline? Yes, that major injustice vibes. Oh, yeah. Major in in that Raphael is like, the Superman of injustice where he's like, sure. Mad not mad with power, but like the whole like, you can't touch me. You are worse. To me kind of thing. Like yeah, major power trip. So

Unknown:

can't touch me. But I'll turn you into a handbag. Oh, right.

Rachel:

Right. It's fine. But it was a great hand. Yeah,

Unknown:

that's what Birkins are actually made of those super expensive ones that people have to wait in lines for? Yeah, actually made a vampire fun. So,

Rachel:

the dude super loyalty has Archangel who's not Raphael. And she's like, What? Like she had like, captured him and brought him back. Elena, what did and she's like, what happened? Like, oh, you know, he took she took my skin off of me and turned it into a handbag and she's like, why are you still loyal to her? It was a really nice handbag. Okay, yeah. All right. Characters. Elena Deveraux. Her full name is Eleonora but she just goes by Elena. She's a vampire hunter. And like I said, she hunts the ones that try to renege on their bargains she has silver eyes, is a literal fucking Angel. And also a day he has piercing blue eyes, black hair, white wings that have like gold, like streaks through them that shed gold dust. And also where they're scarred. They become more gold. Sure. Oh, so

Margie:

like the pottery? Yeah.

Rachel:

Ah, hey, let's play. Power. Bingo. Oh, yeah, many powers do we think this angel friend has or what powers are we saying?

Margie:

What powers or how many? Yes. Both. Okay. Um, well, he's I think healing powers because he's an angel. Okay. Um, flight. That counts, right?

Rachel:

Yeah, that's kind of goes with the territory. It's good.

Margie:

Um,

Unknown:

I think he can shoot fireballs? Yeah, I'm just gonna go I'm going full. I think I'm like full on just Hadoken that head you can and yeah, shoot fireballs out of his hands. Yeah,

Margie:

I'm gonna say like, mind control. Oh, yeah. Good mind control. And that includes memory stuff. Okay. Yeah. freeze time. Oh, good one. Um, what else? Yeah.

Unknown:

What other things?

Margie:

Are we missing any yet? Are we missing any?

Rachel:

Yes. Oh, wow. Okay.

Margie:

Yeah. What else can angels do?

Rachel:

There's a couple that like you control the weather. There's one that you really won't

Margie:

control the weather. That's a good one.

Unknown:

turn people into vampires. We've covered that. Yeah. Again, given Yeah, right. That just comes with the territory. Right. Right. Right. Give you give you an eyeglasses test without having to use the like the loopy things

Rachel:

number one number two.

Margie:

Yeah, that's all I got. All right.

Rachel:

Yeah. Okay. Any more any more? Amanda?

Unknown:

No, I've suddenly forgotten all powers.

Rachel:

Good. Um, you actually got a good number of them. Right. Okay. So we have mind reading and control. Okay. Healing but only himself. superstring strength. Okay, invisibility. Mm hmm. Okay. Angel Fire not the website's so you're right. Yes. Well, so he it's like energy basically, he like soaks up energy from like, stuff around him and then sure, I guess. Yeah, who tokens that shit? Yep. And the one you would never ever have gotten drug wings. Which is to say what the gold shit that like dust that comes off his drug. His like wings is like a drug people pay money for it.

Unknown:

would never have guessed. No, no. No click an angel. It's like licking a toad. Yeah. Unless you're

Rachel:

Elena and then it's like a real good aphrodisiac.

Unknown:

Well, right. Yeah, that's worse. It is. Of

Rachel:

course it is. Yeah. All right. So let's get started. Okay. Actually snort it. No, you lick it. Oh. Blair

Unknown:

centralist? Yes. Yeah,

Rachel:

yes. Oh, that's technically another one. It's not a superpower. But it is noted that there are way more nerve endings on wings than other parts of the body.

Margie:

I have actually read that in another book. In the Avatar series is really is when Reese's wings in the second book, they mentioned that like they're, they're more sensitive. Their Dick

Rachel:

wings. Yeah, just giant clitoris

Unknown:

wing.

Margie:

Terribly center, like folds. Okay, yeah. Yeah. Oh, no.

Unknown:

Is that the delicate labia that I was threatened with?

Rachel:

threatened? Yes, it is. Okay, so I really hope I remember all of what happened in this book because it was months ago. But I did my best. So Elena, striking down a vampire. She catches him and is returning him to the people that are going to take him back to Australia where his Archangel lives and one of the angels that's there. So he hands her a note and says, Hey, we have another job for you. Don't worry. It's already been cleared with your guild because she works for a guild and you're going to need to go to Manhattan cube Can't shitting have Oh no. Okay, I don't go to Manhattan, because I know who's in Manhattan and angels are fucking terrifying. And an angel gave me this letter. Retro. She puts two and two together. Lots of Whoa, yes. She's not pleased. So angels are scary in this, like, there's, they talk about some people like have this like, all essentially at seeing angels like they're essentially just dumbfounded if they see an angel and angels tend to keep to themselves, but they don't have emotions. And they have absolutely zero qualms about like, torturing people. So for instance, go ahead.

Unknown:

So wait, so humans do humans know like, if you're in Manhattan, you're like, oh, man, I gotta avoid that buildings. That's where Raphael lives, do they? Yeah, humans all know. So we know that there's like an evil overlord on each continent. Yes, that we have to

Margie:

avoid. Well, that's the other thing too is that it's like, it's weird to me that they're called like, angels. Like basically, they just have Angel names. They don't really sound like your stereotypical, like, biblical Angel and all obviously, but they also don't sound like I always I've attributed that angels are supposed to be quote, unquote, good. You know, but it doesn't sound like they are they're fighting. They're fighting for the good guys. You know,

Rachel:

they are above everything. Right? So they're not good. If you if you're looking at the alignment shirt, they are pretty chaotic. Neutral, okay. Or a little bit of chaotic good sometimes, but mostly chaotic. Neutral. Does.

Unknown:

Not Old Testament angels is basically what we're going with here. Yeah, that's not a Catholic. Good Angel. This is no,

Rachel:

this is a above everybody. You are scum, because you are not.

Margie:

It does kind of remind me of that show Lucifer a little bit.

Rachel:

I can see that. Yeah. Okay. Yeah, yeah. Um, so there is like a tower, essentially in Manhattan. That is like Angel Central. That's where they all kind of like, right next to Mount Olympus. Yeah, Percy Jackson fans, right. Um, and that's where the address on the like letter that she gets it. So that's kind of why she's like, Oh, shit, right. So she shows up to this like, tower, and they take her all the way to the top, because of course, he has to fucking show off. And Rafael is there. And he's like, Hey, look. We're being discreet here. We need your help. You are a very good hunter. The jury's out on what hunters are, but they have this special ability that they can smell vampires, right? That's like, and she's particularly good at that. So he's like, we're, you know, we're keeping this under wraps. You will be very discreet with this. But we need you to work for us. And she's like, Well, I do not have a choice, do I? Because I saw how you tortured your vampire friends before. Great. So she's kind of forced into taking this job. However, during this exchange, the power dynamic is fucking insane. He is just like, reading your mind without asking. And

Margie:

incentive. Sexy, huh? Consent?

Rachel:

Yes. considered sexy. I'm borderline making her do stuff. Oh, good control without her consent.

Margie:

Does she know that this is happening that he's like controlling her mind and reading her mind?

Rachel:

Yeah. Oh, God.

Unknown:

So the whole time so he's not like, she doesn't really have the option in this. Yeah, no. And

Rachel:

she props to her she is doing. She kind of realizes she's like, they want this job. My life is forfeit. To cats. But, but, but she's like, my life is forfeit. Once this is over. They want me for this job. They're not going to keep me alive because I'm going to know too much about angels. And they don't want that information potentially getting out to the greater humanity. My life

Margie:

is for essentially a death sentence. Yeah, like an execution.

Rachel:

That's how she kind of sees it as a but she knows that they need her right now. So because they need her. She's like, start like like actually talking to him. Like no, fucking get out of my head. Do not do this, which is not what you do to angels. You do not talk back to angels. So she's, at least like, I don't want to say she's holding our own. But she's not just like, well, I don't have a choice. I'm going to go with everything she will

Margie:

and also talking back. Can we assume right now? Is she attracted to him?

Rachel:

Yes. Oh,

Margie:

damn it. Well, I was hoping that it wasn't true. I hoping that like,

Unknown:

yeah, it's a man who can get into your heads man Angel creature who can get into your head. Think know everything that you want and send you on a death mission. What's not sexy about that?

Margie:

I've honestly, honestly, you're right i Oh, I I'm a Kylo Ren sub. So I really should honestly.

Rachel:

She also he is attracted to her. But right now the dynamic is very much a look a new toy kind of attraction.

Margie:

Can we? Oh, great. I absolutely hate that. Oh, can we also assume though, because Raphael, we have to make a comment on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles that this occurs in the same universe

Unknown:

has not been imagining the turtle with wings this whole time.

Margie:

That Wow, that would be like, Oh,

Rachel:

he's Yeah,

Unknown:

he's already he's the red mask. So God

Rachel:

damn it. Okay, so she accepts it because, again, not really a choice. Yeah. She's like, okay, so what am I hunting? And they're like, oh, we can't tell you everything. She's like, Okay. I need to know. Is it a vampire? He's like, Yeah, we'll go with that for now. Okay. Perfect. So she's like, she leaves and she's talking to her Guild and lead they like, it's to a point where she realizes she's like, I can't like he could go after them. Because she has really close friends in the guild with kids. And like, she could go, he could go after my friends. He knows my family. Not that she really cares about her family. But like, he knows my family. Like, he knows everything. I really don't have a choice here. Like it is what we got. So she's kind of like, thinking about it and everything. And the he's like, toying with her the entire time. So so she goes home for the night, that thing and there's like a package there. And it's like, a gift that He's given her. That's like, priceless, like a beautiful thing. And she's like,

Margie:

I What's the point? You're gonna kill me after this anyway? What am I gonna do sell it and buy a jet for 45 minutes?

Rachel:

I mean, you know, as long as they're fucking other people won't kill her. Probably. It's fine. It's fine. So

Unknown:

wait, are they fucking No, no, but they're gonna.

Rachel:

Yeah, I think so. So they have a little bit of a fight over this because she is rather in support it. Yeah, right. Yeah. Anything is

Margie:

in subordination. If you don't have a choice, though. Yeah. When you say zero choices, anything is insubordination. She could get a waffle for breakfast, and you'd be like you're supposed to eat something low calorie.

Unknown:

Oh, God, if he's also sitting around death missing mission and making her be low carb the whole time. Like, I'm sorry. Guys, I'm okay with slate with him having vampire slaves. But I draw the line at forcing her to be low carb.

Rachel:

Right. That's keto diet.

Margie:

That's where we draw the line. Yeah.

Rachel:

So. So to be clear, this is the next day. So she had gone home. She'd done some research. She talked to some of the guild and she went back to return this gift or whatever. And they get into this fight because he still will not tell her anything. And she can't do anything if she doesn't know what the fuck she's tracking. And she goes to leave and the head of Rafael's vampire security follows. And his name he know that he's there. Yeah, she knows Mel him. Oh, right. Yeah, so

Unknown:

it's like if you're walking down the street and you have this weird smell following you, you're gonna figure that out real

Margie:

quick. Well, and a brief you could outrun me as if you could fight me off

Rachel:

a brief note about his head of security because he does keep popping up a little bit. He is a really fucking old vampire. So he's not in a year of service. He is legitimately loyal to Raphael. And he's super old. He has like think like pheromone kind of powers. So like he can like change his scent to like fuck with people. And he does it to her all the time. Because he's like, I would like to play with that one. But Rafael's like, No, you can't do that. So he's following are both keep an eye on her and because they had a fight. She's fair game now, right? No, no, she's not. So she slits his throat and runs away. Good for her on the sidewalk in Manhattan.

Unknown:

Like a Tuesday?

Rachel:

Yeah, it's fine.

Margie:

Like, you know, if he says that he can shoot someone in broad daylight in the middle of Manhattan. Yeah. No, vampire guild, whatever. So.

Rachel:

So she basically goes on the run because she's like, Well, shit. I did kind of almost decapitate his favorite friend. Fuck. And she's afraid that he's going to go after like her and her friends. So she goes on the run. Yep.

Margie:

Are the angels omniscient? No. Okay. And goes

Rachel:

into Like their safe house kind of thing until she can figure out what to do. So, full disclosure, this little, like first part is kind of not a ton happens, but it's very much setting up the power dynamic between these two. Okay, which is to say not great

Margie:

that she has all of the power now and she is none Yes. Yeah,

Unknown:

that she feels she needs to go into a safe house hiding situation because he might murder her. Right? And

Margie:

also and also like in their conversations that she feels like no, you don't get to read my mind. Yes, but because it's literally the only freedom afforded to her left.

Rachel:

Don't worry. This will change a little bit power dynamic wise, okay, a little bit, so widdle. While she's slitting the dude's throat and going in hiding. Raphael has a little bit of a problem. Because see, there's seven in this like the Cabal that is the Archangels. And one of them. And it's like, it's like, that's super like shady politics kind of thing. Because all of them are definitely like full of themselves and out for themselves only. And he's like the second or third oldest of all of them. So like, he's pretty powerful. The oldest sort of all of them is like, way older than all of the rest of them. And she has some crazy powers. And she is kind of insane. And she literally rules over China. And like that area, and she maybe there's rumors has gained the ability to raise the dead, which is not great. So he is kind of many dead people, right? So he's kind of trying to figure out, like, what's going on, he has some spies in there and like, and he's also trying to figure out why he's so drawn to Elena. So there's like this double kind of thing. So he there is a thing that angels can do, where they use an immense amount of power to do something kind of crazy. And the drawback is for the next 24 hours, you have no emotions, like you essentially become a sociopath like you. Yeah. So he decides he wants to talk to this super old angel to kind of fish out what she's doing. And also ask about, like this weird attraction to humans or whatever. And so he does, he uses this huge amount of power. He talks to her she gives her kind of like, Oh, you found your weakness. You found your weak this kind of thing? Because she's like, oh, yeah, I had one of those. I killed him.

Margie:

Okay, okay. In her defense wasn't a white man. No. Oh, damn,

Rachel:

I know. I know.

Unknown:

Okay, so wait. He had to use his powers to talk to her and could not pick up the phone?

Rachel:

No, apparently. You know what? Good questions. But it's important because this whole 24 hours of have no emotions is important.

Margie:

It's a big, mobile. It's only $50 a month. Ryan.

Unknown:

Where were you? He could have just, we all do this now.

Margie:

Like Skype. Right is in their defense is 2009. So no. That is true that

Rachel:

in the Dark Ages. Yeah. Yeah.

Unknown:

We have instant messengers. Yeah, right.

Rachel:

Yeah. So he has for 20

Unknown:

years, no emotions, and he's just been told that the solution is kill her.

Rachel:

And also, um, he can't find her now. His his friend shows up and you know, the one thing that he's obsessed with right now, he cannot find so good naturally, because he has no emotions whatsoever. He, she's in a bunker underground. He goes to her best friend who's the guild director forces her to tell him where she is. Because mine rapes cool. Yeah, yeah.

Margie:

It's so weird that he's like, still so obsessed with it, but he doesn't have any emotions. Yeah, now Oh, yeah. Well,

Unknown:

yeah. I mean, you're talking about a lot of guys that I've gone. Yeah, that's true.

Rachel:

Jesus too soon? No, we could. Hard,

Margie:

deep conversations about that.

Rachel:

So. So she gets a call, a lady gets a call in this bunker from her friend saying he knows where you are. Get the fuck out of there. So she does. And she's like, well, you know what? He's gonna find me. There's not really a lot of point in me running. I'm just gonna go home. So she goes back to her apartment, and just waits. And she waits for Rafael to land on her balcony. And he so the whole no emotion thing is like, it's like he has that tiny like Inkling in the back of his brain of like, you're so powerful. You can do whatever the hell you want. Like, why do you? What are morals? You shouldn't have those. You're too powerful for those. So it's basically that's kind of what's driving him right now. And he's like, Well, I want this woman. Even though rape is not his thing. Normally, so he's like being real creepy about it and real forceful about it. And she's like, fuck this and she shoots him

Unknown:

Yes. And that's the story. Wow.

Margie:

Yeah, the dominant Raphael can now live in peace. Yes, yes. Yes.

Rachel:

Well she shoots him in the wings and he like passes out and she's like well, fuck so she calls the head of is like the vampire that's the head of security you know the one that she almost capitated right? I'm sure interesting relationship. Okay, so all almost decapitated. Yeah, she slit his throat. She didn't

Margie:

die. Right. Okay.

Rachel:

I thought he was dead now. And so she calls him and she's like, Hey, so something happened. Raphael was acting weird. I shot him. You should probably come and make sure he's okay. Because she is weirdly attached to him also. And so they come they show up. They arrest her and they take him off to heal. Right. Okay. Well, you

Unknown:

go ahead and Angel police arrest her or NYPD.

Rachel:

The angel police. Okay. Yes, Andrew police.

Margie:

Good question about cops. And you said that she's already weirdly attached to him. Let me ask you this. Is there any what I would call chemistry between these two of like, Yes, I can understand why they're attracted to one another personality wise.

Rachel:

Yes and no. Okay. It's very

Unknown:

much mind his his clit wings are covered in they're covered in the legs. Yeah, yeah. Human catnip. So

Rachel:

right now it's very much a a, like physical attraction, okay, but it's like a really intense physical attraction between the two. And there is a little bit of banter. And it kind of right now is coming down to like, the whole premise is like she's making him a little bit human. So like, where he was super detached from humanity and like, full of himself power wise. She's the one that's like questioning him and being like, What the fuck are you doing? Okay, that kind of dynamic. Yeah. And also he's hot. So how now?

Margie:

I will also say that this is giving me a lot of Vampire Diaries vibes, because the name Elena and then the way he's described sounds a lot like Damon.

Rachel:

Alright. Yeah, that track is weird that the head of his vampire securities named Damien.

Margie:

She may have been drinking The Vampire Diaries T cool a little bit right, you know, coolly.

Rachel:

Um, so now she knows she's in real deep shit. Because she's under arrest right now. So she's like hogtied in a room while waiting to see if Raphael is going to wake up. And she is worried about him. She's like, I I did that out of self defense. Right? Like he was acting really weird. Something was wrong. Like I don't you know, so she's worried about him. And of course David's like I hope I get to kill you. Because that could be fun kind of thing. They have great some actually some fun banter. But also some like, I hate you hate you to kind of banter. It's good. Like we

Margie:

would be it's it's like we would be friends if we were in another world slash situation slash

Rachel:

kind of, yeah, yeah. She also is like, major prejudice against vampires. She does go into why. And that does change towards the end of the book, but we will go into why?

Unknown:

Because her job is hunting them. So she has to dehumanize them. Is that why?

Rachel:

No, it's more like she got into hunting them because of trauma as a child.

Margie:

She read Twilight too many times.

Unknown:

I will say this I as soon as you like he's the second in command. I decided in my head that he was Dwight from the office.

Rachel:

I like that General Manager. I like that. Yeah, that's

Margie:

perfect.

Unknown:

So she is in

Rachel:

Angel. JL Yes. She's an angel. JL. But don't worry. Raphael recovers.

Unknown:

And it was just a flesh wound

Rachel:

just a flesh wound. He does have a really cool like, gold scar pattern on his wing now.

Margie:

I do like that idea. I think that's pretty clever. Yeah. Interesting.

Rachel:

Yeah. So he like, brings her up to talk to him. And she's like, legit worry. Just like I'm so like, are you okay? Like, everything like that. He's like, and he gets it. He's like, he doesn't blame her at all. That's good. Because he realizes what he was at the time because he's recovering. He's not in the quiet or whatever anymore. So they smooch real hard.

Margie:

Alive. Okay.

Rachel:

Okay, yeah, yeah. Well, because he has to heal and sex helps him heal. Oh, that's another superpower. I missed that one.

Unknown:

Wait, sex helps them heal. Yeah.

Margie:

Yeah, back in fucking Atlantis.

Rachel:

What's wrong, huh? I don't get it.

Unknown:

Do they have sex normally with other angels? Who are they normally fucking?

Margie:

Really good question Amanda are vampires are they fucking vampire?

Rachel:

They do vampires sometimes humans sometimes it's been a while since he's been with a human. I'm assuming angels, but I don't. I don't actually know if they do angels because, like do angels because like, the power dynamic? Yeah, it's so okay.

Margie:

So also almost like siblings, right? No,

Rachel:

no related. Okay. But his Raphael's whole thing, and that's the reason he's a good guy. He only likes to have one. If he's with, if he's with a person, they go steady. It's just the two of them. Neither of them should have other people.

Unknown:

Show this is the ethics through monogamy. Yeah. I mean, who can fly sensual? Yeah,

Margie:

mind reading totally fine. Or? Yeah, but you know, we strike the bat we crossed the line of polyamory.

Rachel:

Yeah. Also vampires and a really kinky shit. So they probably have fun with that.

Margie:

It has been 1000s and 1000s of years. You got it. You got to mix it

Rachel:

up. You got to do something to spice it up in the bedroom. Um, we'll get into it. So yeah, so they make out and stuff. They don't have sex, though.

Unknown:

And he fingerbang do they get to know they do the first face? No, fingerbang?

Rachel:

No, but she does get a little bit more information about what she's tracking. Okay, so turns out, just like humans can turn into vampires, ah, angels can turn into vampires. And recently, one of the archangels went MIA. And it's kind of really bad if he turns into a vampire. Any kind of turned into a vampire. So there's a vampire Archangel running around New York, and she has to help track him. Because they have to kill him. Okay, because if he gains too much of, okay, so I'm just gonna go into a little bit. Now she is kind of filter fed all of this info. But basically, that toxin if it builds up too much, the angel is corrupted. Instead of like, corrupting a human into a vampire, the angel gets corrupted into a vampire. And if that happens, the first thing they're going to want to do is kill another Archangel. And if they do that, they gain insane power and also are totally evil.

Margie:

The the rules in this book are wild. Yeah, like,

Rachel:

yeah. What do they

Margie:

drink their blood? Do they kill the other angel and drink their blood? And then they become Ultra evil? Or is it just the act of killing? Because I'm like, That's the act of killing. Okay, so then you get into like, the magic like,

Rachel:

Yeah, I mean, they still drink blood and like he would drink their blood, but it's not necessary. Okay. Yeah.

Unknown:

The blood is so bad for like, early Bible humans who said like, hey, so we've got this Archangel here who's turned into a vampire. Abraham, you got it. You got to go kill them. And Abraham's got like, a stick.

Rachel:

Yeah. Right. Well, so but a magic stick. Right? So humans do not know this as a possibility. And they're trying. Part of the reason they weren't telling her is because like, they are trying to keep their mythical status, essentially, and like in the minds of humanity, so that people don't question their authority, because that's ethical. So they do not want to getting out that Archangels can be corrupted in any way. Because they're kind of working with divine right right now in the lines of humanity. So they're like, Yeah, this no one's

Margie:

like A Bug's Life. They don't want the humans to realize that they could actually defeat them.

Rachel:

Yeah, but don't worry. They can control memories and stuff, so it's probably fine. Oh,

Unknown:

so they can just men and black everyone afterwards. Pretty much.

Rachel:

So yeah. So they're interrupted during sexy makeout time because of a massacre. woopsy doodle looks like Mr. Vampire angel has reared his head. So they take her to the site of this massacre, and it is that it is a massacre. So that she can sniff out our bad boy. And she is able to actually like smell him like she's very susceptible to the like the smells, I guess. Mm hmm. So she's able to smell him but he's not there and she isn't able to track him because he flies away. So she's, she's a bloodhound. Yeah, she is. One thing that is important also, that I meant to mention, when he came to her apartment and she shot him. He was like, speaking in her head and like wasn't actually talking to her like she was not okay with it. And she found out because she's a special snowflake. She can't actually block him. So now we're getting some Twilight vibes and yeah, sir. Yeah, really bad headache, but she can do it if she really tries so okay, that makes it better.

Unknown:

Great. Totally consensual you just get a really bad headache so the man can't penetrate your brain Yeah,

Rachel:

it's fine. Like really strong chemicals. So, so she is able to like kind of like get a bead on him but not enough that they're really able to track him. So she ends up like going back with Raphael and meeting another archangel and specifically one that really doesn't like her and used to be in bed, literally. With the Vampire Angel guy.

Margie:

Okay, so she was sleeping with Yeah, are they which

Rachel:

means and by the way, this chicks a total bitch. Oh, but it also means that our vampire boy is probably going to go after her as the Ark angel to kill. Right? Okay, yeah, that's kind of puts him on the radar. So they're kind of having to juggle finding these massacres that he's left in these like abandoned buildings and shit and also keeping an eye on her to make sure he doesn't go after this Archangel. Right. Okay, even though she's a massive bitch.

Margie:

That's a bitch. But also couldn't she take care of herself like she is an archangel?

Rachel:

No, she can't. She's useless. Oh, yeah, she's

Unknown:

Mirchi you can't have multiple women with power. Yes, there's one special snowflake

Margie:

You're right. How can I and you can tell she was evil lair

Unknown:

except how there can only be one Slayer but instead there can only be one woman with agency. Yeah.

Rachel:

And honestly, she you know she's bad because

Margie:

agency she's taken away from her boyfriend.

Rachel:

She's the one that made the purse out of her vampire friend. She is a bitch

Margie:

but it's a really nice

Rachel:

she needed an accessory and honestly, it's sustainable. Yeah. Ability honestly. Key

Unknown:

right. What is she evil? Or was she being responsible? Not going with like a fake leather.

Rachel:

Right, right. At least this regenerates? Ah, yeah. She also super puts a hit out on Elena after this whole thing is over with she wants her like super shredded. Try dead. Yeah, because she likes Rafael. Because

Margie:

that's how, honestly, you like get someone to love you by killing the person that they're quote unquote fascinated in. Yeah,

Rachel:

yeah, absolutely. Yeah. make sense to me. Um, so we're gonna take a brief sojourn to the side plot zone. Where we there. There's a little bit of like some side plots going on where we basically get Elena's background and I just kind of want to like let you know what Elena's background is because like, what happens isn't necessarily I'm sure

Margie:

she had like a wholesome, and like comforting and nurturing childhood with two parents, two siblings, a dog offense in suburbia.

Unknown:

And nothing bad happened. Oh, by the end of this, she goes home and her parents are like, what are you? How's your job going down?

Margie:

And she decided she's like, You know what, I think I'm gonna switch careers. I think that's just not Yeah.

Rachel:

Wow. Yeah. And a book. We're done. No. No, so her mom was great. Her dad was great up until her mom and two of her siblings because she has three siblings. Straight up got murdered by a vampire serial killer.

Unknown:

Yeah, that was the other option. Yeah, yeah. So

Rachel:

she decided to dedicate her life to hunting down vampires using her abilities and stuff. And her dad hates her.

Unknown:

Well, because her dad's like, I believe in restorative justice and does like her dad is a progressive. Yeah,

Rachel:

that's definitely it. And yeah, that's

Unknown:

why he hates or he's like that's you're just become evil. It's like, you know, you've joined the police and I believe in you know, in D with defending the police. Right? And yeah, damn fire police.

Rachel:

Absolutely. And the quote, in the book definitely wasn't will obviously I don't want you to be a whore. But if you're going to do it yourself, I might as well gain something out of it. Definitely wasn't the quote. And now, yours is better. Hey, Dad. Hey, Dad.

Margie:

I'm just really really quick. Fuck you.

Rachel:

Yeah. So there's her background.

Unknown:

matching your parents anyway. So my first job, I'm really excited. I've got this job. I'm going to be working at the Walmart that has the eyeglasses direct. And your dad and like, we're gonna get discounts. It's gonna be great. No, so I'm going to avenge your dad is like, well, if you're gonna be a whore,

Margie:

She's assistant manager don't forget,

Rachel:

yeah. Jesus Christ. Okay, so there's her backstory. So there's another massacre row. And they are able to track him a little bit more. But it's kind of reached a point like she's been going like, Go Go, go go go for like, over 24 hours at this point,

Margie:

where are the human police? Where's the Brooklyn nine, nine,

Rachel:

they are actively not letting them get noticed, like

Margie:

a massacre.

Unknown:

Okay, so on my podcast, we have a thing called Reality index, which is basically like, do we believe within the world that this makes sense? And my reality index on this is I fully believe that the NYPD would be like, Oh, no, it already happened. We got some leads. It's fine. And then like, just go about their business and keep arresting people for jumping onto subways without paying like, yeah,

Margie:

yeah, absolutely. It's a lot of work. Yeah, they'd

Unknown:

be like, it's not my jurisdiction, and they just push it off, right. They're

Margie:

not real people. You know, these people were?

Unknown:

Are they killing humans? Or is the archangel killing humans was the archangel killing vampire? Yes. Oh, okay. Yeah. Oh,

Rachel:

and so basically, it's like, all of them. Yeah. As soon as these are like, they're found, like, our vampire body guards show up and lock his shit down. So it's like super New World Order. Keep it underground kind of shit. Slaves. Yeah, yeah. So but she's like her adrenaline is kind of on overdrive because she's seen all of these horror, horrible things. And she's been running for like, over 24 hours and using her abilities, and she's like, I am overloaded. Like, she's at a point where she's like, I know, I'm gonna crash. I need to stop. And I need a break, which like it, it ends up like it starts raining while they're there. And she's like, well, the sun's gone anyway. I need to fucking break. Yeah. So she like

Unknown:

goes like somebody could use a little pick me up of Angel Dust.

Rachel:

Oh, no. Funny you should say that. Oh, so she is in this like overstimulated, just like like mentally exhausted state. And she's like, I want to fuck. Yep, there. Yep. And so she's on our way to Rafael's house. And she's like, mental link now, because now they're at a point where they used to just communicate with each other way. Sure. Yeah. And she's like, Hey, gosh,

Unknown:

he gave her his BlackBerry Messenger code. 1009. Right. We were still using BBM. Yes. And it's top five.

Rachel:

Yeah, yeah. And so she's like, Hey, I'm gonna take you up on your offer. And he's like, you know, most like, a good person would not take advantage of you in this when you're in this current mental stage is a good thing. You're not a human. And he's like, Yeah, let's go fuck. Okay, so, um, sex.

Margie:

Is it good?

Rachel:

I don't remember. We're gonna find out means I like my

Unknown:

question of, do they fly during the set? No. And I would remember that I would know, I'm like, God. Yeah. Does she tenderly crest his wings? And it excites him? Yes.

Rachel:

I remember. Not painting it. But I by saying that I'm going to shoot myself in the foot for under the covers, because I'm sure it's terrible. I'm good. So yeah, so they have sex in a bed that's designed for things with wings. So that's cool.

Margie:

How

Rachel:

we'll get there.

Unknown:

It has like little wings slots in it. Just like slide your wings into it

Rachel:

sounds like comfortable. No, I mostly just doesn't have any

Margie:

much like a plug in the wall lifted.

Rachel:

It mostly just doesn't have any like headboard or anything so they can lay on their stomach and the wings can just kind of drape off.

Unknown:

Okay, so you're telling me that this is he's? He just has a platform bed? Yes. It's a bed specially designed. This is an adult man who just didn't bother getting a bedframes

Margie:

Oh my god. The Scourge and I could not find bedframe I can

Rachel:

only imagine. It's a waterbed.

Margie:

Also, it has a navy blue sheets. Oh, yeah.

Rachel:

You keep going out like that. Okay, so. So, the next day, we have a little bit of a rut row in that, you know, Mikayla the archangel who's a bitch. That's probably Yeah, sure. So she's kind of under attack. Okay, our boy kind of she is okay. So she's like Elena's tracking this dude. And they go back to Kayla's place house and she's like, he's here. And they're like, oh shit. Like, yeah, he's like, actively here. So she like they run into the mansion. It's like all of her Butler staff have been straight up murdered. And they like, go into this chicks room and he has ripped her heart out because that's the only way to stun an angel because they'll come back from that it just takes a minute. And I guess the only way to kill an archangel is to use that Angel Fire stuff, not the website. And Okay, anyone else get that joke? Because I did. So is to use the Angel Fire, put it in them and it like burns their veins from the inside out. So that's what he's actively trying. That is kind of cool. Yeah, yeah,

Unknown:

it's um, yeah,

Rachel:

the visuals and shit in this book are actually like, I still liked the book. I will say it is buck wild, but it was fun. buck wild. Oh, like

Margie:

the mind reading thing so far? Huh? Really? The only thing I have a problem with is the mind reading.

Rachel:

Yeah. So they save her. And this is where she gets that background of like, how to kill angels, which is the thing that they super don't want humanity to know. And how and

Unknown:

center on this whole mission and didn't tell her how she was going to kill him if she found him.

Rachel:

Yeah. Oh, yeah.

Margie:

Great. They just expect but did they just expect her to find him? No,

Rachel:

they wanted her to find him. And then Raphael was going to take care of okay, that's kind of the Yeah, kill him because only an archangel can kill an archangel. So they save her. Raphael does get kind of hurt in the course of it, so he has to heal. So he's got to fuck again.

Margie:

Yeah.

Unknown:

Imagine being just like an archangel, but nothing dangerous ever happens to us. You're just like, oh, no, I gave myself a paper cut. Who wants to

Rachel:

bone bone down. So I'm Rafael's kind of working with Makayla to like, make sure she's okay. And like, get her squared away. And Elena is like, I think I can find him. So her and another one of the another angel go out, just kind of driving around trying to pick up a set because he's still around.

Unknown:

And she's hanging her head out the window, like,

Rachel:

essentially the city of New York, and they make a rookie mistake, which is to say he was injured. And they're like, Oh, he's gonna need some downtime. Maybe a good fuck. Now he remember he's a vampire. Now he doesn't need that. Well, I can go it just fucks other people up, but not in the fun way. So she's running around trying to find him. And we switched Rafael's point of view where all of a sudden he's like, tries to talk to Elena and hears nothing back. And it's like, oh, Rose Gedeo. Um, so yeah, it's

Margie:

my special human.

Rachel:

Yeah, don't touch that one brand. So he is like, oh, shit, and Elena has been captured. And the angel that she was with got super hurt. So she is now in like, his are evil boy, his, like, layer, for lack of a better word.

Margie:

Ooh, I love a good layer of a good layer.

Unknown:

Once you're a vampire, your home immediately becomes late.

Rachel:

Well, it's like just a requirement. In this case. It's a old warehouse. Oh,

Margie:

big question that wasn't addressed. How are these vampires doing in the sun?

Rachel:

They're finding the sun. Okay. Yeah. Um, so he the only reason it's established that he's keeping her alive is to get right Raphael there because he wants to kill somebody. That's an archangel and he'll do and so he literally is like, I'm gonna go to fucking kill you it doesn't matter and so she is again super resented death because he keeps like he's like torturing her. He like breaks her ankle he like is like just causing a lot of pain. It's not great. Yeah. And he's just like

Margie:

your stereotypical evil Yeah, he's

Rachel:

a real fucking evil Yeah, um,

Margie:

he just run of the mill evil Yeah.

Rachel:

Q epic big battle. So Raphael shows up they have huge Angel fight in the skies above this warehouse.

Margie:

Know that nobody in New York notices how

Rachel:

they do this one they notice but so yeah, they they have this huge fight. Rafael's getting like really hurt and everything. And he's like, about to lose the fight. And Elena had gotten to such a point where she could shoot our vampire bad boy with his her fancy Angel gun that like actually hurts angels. And so she Yeah, so she shoots him and wrath is able to kill our bad boy. Okay. Bad news. Oh no. Elena's dying.

Margie:

Sure. Yeah. actively hate it when that when that happens, right.

Rachel:

The bodily trauma and also having a building fall on her happen. Oh,

Unknown:

yeah to do it humans humans do have a weakness to build. It is collapsing.

Rachel:

Yeah. Yeah, it's super effective.

Unknown:

Yeah

Margie:

right, not yet.

Rachel:

Damn it. She's still got like three HP left. So Raphael is like, Ah, you motherfucker. You're not allowed to die. I like you and she's like, like, I like you too. But also I'm gonna die and I don't want to do a vampire. And does

Unknown:

he non consensually vampire?

Rachel:

Well, she's like, he's like, he actually he he respects that. But also he's really hurt too. And they end up so I lied a little bit. The building hadn't quite fallen on her yet. It's about to.

Margie:

Oh, okay, so they like fall. So that's like the effective kill. That's where it's like, okay, this other thing did it kill you that'll definitely kill you actually

Rachel:

say like, it was kind of. It's something you don't see in a romance novel very often.

Unknown:

You don't often see buildings collapse on the main care. But even more so

Margie:

buildings collapsing in general usually

Rachel:

more so and avoids, though you don't see an almost all powerful Archangel boy making out with his love interest while a building falls on both of them. And they both die.

Margie:

In his defense

Rachel:

there's an epilogue Don't worry. They didn't actually die. I mean, I would figure they

Margie:

shouldn't kill him. Huh? No Angel Fire

Rachel:

was involved. It wasn't the battle leading up to that he's real hurt. Okay, yeah, but if they fuck, it'll heal him

Unknown:

so he just has to have sex with her but

Margie:

I was lucky in there it's

Rachel:

pretty fast turn around on the building who's your underwear?

Margie:

Let's get it in.

Rachel:

They are mashing face off

Unknown:

it up in their

Rachel:

Falcon funny. They are mashing face this entire time so I'm gonna just close question to the group. Oh no. How do you think she survives

Margie:

I'm gonna go with the drugs that somehow the okay for these yak drugs.

Unknown:

His saliva heals her

Margie:

What do you think his sperm wooddale

Unknown:

oh god a man all of a sudden her uterus just like man Kool Aid man punches through her through her stomach.

Rachel:

A man Oh no. Was I right? A man.

Margie:

Oh no, no,

Rachel:

I was just gonna spray me all the power of love because I didn't expect either for you to get it. But let me just throw this out there when an arc Angel loves another person really bad sometimes they can make something in their bodies I guess that when they smooch face with that person and they're both dying it saves them both and turns their lover into an angel

Margie:

Batman that is highly specific

Unknown:

so specialized as an evolutionary I

Rachel:

cannot believe you are doing so well.

Margie:

I just feel like God exists in this universe. He was like to these angels like okay, you got one more card. You got one more special power guess is loved hard dying and your super love someone and at the moment when you're both dying? You start smashing lips? Yes. It'll be all good.

Rachel:

So at the moment you spell you both are dying. If you start baby bird throwing up into her mouth, then it's probably fine. Oh god, you're right. You're right.

Unknown:

You're right. I really like is my guess is be entirely because every time I've been like what is the most shitposting answer I can think of

Rachel:

how proud of yourself are you?

Unknown:

I'm a horrified

Margie:

I also feel like the power of love would have been a more acceptable answer.

Rachel:

I mean, that is both like, okay, that's just like live and love Margie anything you ever

Margie:

needed she was kissing something else on his body. Well,

Unknown:

well so if he really loves her then she swallows

Rachel:

so my notes literally say she survives and then in all caps Magic love is Angel now. She's an angel now. She's an angel now and she's in a coma for a year and is an angel now she has spent a year in a coma. Yeah, cuz she was real hella hurt. Like being angel is the only reason that she like survived just because she turned into an angel. It's just the right time that it started healing herb.

Margie:

Did she go to Angel hospital?

Rachel:

Yes. I'm not kidding. Yes.

Margie:

There's an angel hospital. There's only seven angels. No,

Rachel:

there's no right angels.

Margie:

Okay. So is that turning a human into an angel? Is that like a like Ark Angel thing?

Rachel:

Yes. Okay, that is something that no one has ever seen happen before. It was a rumored thing. And it just happened to be true. Read a book and go back and try to explain it to someone else. And they're like, What the fuck?

Margie:

We do it every two weeks. Yeah. I

Unknown:

mean, that's the entire premise of your podcast. Yeah,

Rachel:

I guess. You liked

Unknown:

I mean, look, you can like it. It just doesn't change the fact that like,

Margie:

by all Yeah, by doing in that year,

Rachel:

watching over her and also still healing doing healing and Running Man hen. He's still in her out. Right. Yeah, just just waiting. It's fine. Yeah, so

Unknown:

they're bonded for life? Because they're mates now. Yeah. So because you can only monogamously Have sex with her essentially now because she's the power dynamic has changed. That's

Rachel:

still not he's still way more powerful than she is. Yeah. Oh, good. She's just a regular

Margie:

regular ass Angel. Right? She's not an archangel.

Rachel:

No, she's just a regular as an angel. Yeah, she is gorgeous. Apparently, but I will say like, um, wasn't the whole point that she was making a little bit human. Yeah, right, right. Yeah.

Margie:

Well, okay.

Unknown:

We don't actually change. Like, we all think we're gonna change the person that we're dating. And then they're like, No, not really gonna do it. Like I told you that I was gonna start being more proactive. Literally change her. That look. Yeah. Because you know, she's me.

Rachel:

Um, yeah, no, they were love, apparently. Okay. Um,

Margie:

they knew each other three days. Yeah. And he had read her mind manipulated her and forced her to do a job that would probably kill her and actually did.

Unknown:

Yeah, yeah. But at least he didn't intentionally kill her in that case. Like he was supposed to. Right. It wasn't it didn't have to kill her.

Margie:

Yeah. Love you. Yeah, it was the power of love. It wasn't his fault, even though it totally was his fault. Yeah, um, yeah, I mean, this.

Unknown:

She's an angel. Now. She gets coolest wings. Yeah,

Rachel:

yeah, so that was a book. Yeah, that was I told you fucking What did I lie? I did not lie.

Margie:

I did not lie. I think that the world was wilder than the plot. Yes. Like, really? In essence, it was just them chasing after this evil guy. Yeah, yeah.

Unknown:

It's pretty straightforward. It's just that also it's fucking bananas

Rachel:

world world building. I think that it speaks because nearly any we've established is like a pretty good writer. Um, it speaks to how good she is it sort of like describing the world that I did not second guess it the first time I read it. And I don't think I would have if I read it again. Because it's like, she defines rules. And they're constant. So like, in the beginning, you do define these Archangels as these mythical beings, like who have all these weird, strange powers. So by the end, when he does the weird saliva bringing back to life Angel trick, you're like, oh, yeah, he's a weird mythical being with strange powers. Sure. So like, yeah, when you're reading it, you don't question it?

Margie:

Mm hmm.

Rachel:

But when you have to tell someone else about it, right, like, Well,

Margie:

yeah, yeah, it is. Again, it is very A Court of Thorns and Roses because that's what happens at the end of the first book, like she absorbs the power of like, yeah, day or whatever. Right. becomes one of the Fae her special blood. Yeah. Special. Specialist. Look, look a few special eyes. My eye by direct.

Rachel:

Yeah, so I guess I guess we should read it a little bit. Yeah. I legitimately don't know how to write this bad boy. So I will say

Unknown:

what she saw was, was Elena like, a good badass character? Or was she one of those like, I'm a girl power badass characters where it's like a knockoff of Buffy from Buffy. She

Rachel:

was a good badass character, okay, because she was cynical. I think that like if you have a badass character, I think that's the easiest way to not make them the like, I'm special kind of thing. It's more of like, No, I'm here to do my fucking job. There's a reason that I'm doing it. And I realized that I'm it. You don't get into this job if you want a long time.

Margie:

You see, there's an opposite end of that, though, where it's like, I just where the person who is in that position though, is like the special snowflake and it's really annoying. It's like, but I just want to be normal. And it's like, like, that leans into that too hard. Right? You know what I mean? She,

Unknown:

I mean, this is her career path. She's

Rachel:

made this choice. Yeah. Like, this is literally a job. Like she chose to do that because of what happened with her family.

Margie:

I'm not like other girls, but like, I chose to be this way.

Rachel:

Yeah, yeah. She doesn't have the I'm not like other girls. Well, she isn't like other she isn't. Yeah, but she doesn't do the whole right. Not like other girls. She's like, she does have

Margie:

interest, but also she's just kind of like, but I chose this path for my path for myself. I understand

Rachel:

that. Yeah, she's very she's aggressively independent. Yeah. So like, that's something that really matters to her a lot. Like her dad, obviously really doesn't agree with her path, like life path. And she's like, I don't care. Yeah, like I did this,

Unknown:

that I'm gonna hunt down these vampire slaves. Whether you like it or not

Rachel:

just plug it despite the world being insane. She's a very relatable character. Okay. Okay. Like it's yeah. I'm gonna give her like, three and a half. Okay. Yeah. Yeah.

Unknown:

Cool. Her not sucking is good. Yeah,

Rachel:

I think.

Margie:

I think that's the only thing that really saved the book is if the character sucked if you didn't like to hear about it would have been would have been a bad it would have been bad because the plot was already so wild, he wouldn't have been able to get behind it.

Rachel:

And again, I think that because we know Nalini is a pretty good author like so. Okay, Raphael. I, I'm so torn. He's such a mega huge, massive dick. Yeah, there's character growth, but he becomes less of it. It's, it's one of those things where I think in further books, he becomes a good person. It's just, it's this it started like, this is the start of it. Right? Because there's a lot of books in the

Margie:

series to learn. Yeah, okay.

Unknown:

He's on a journey, his journey, but it there was

Rachel:

marked improvement. He's still a massive cock. So I'm gonna say like a one and a half, two. Okay, just because he's got a deck.

Unknown:

Um, but is he an our boy dick? Or is he a homeboy dick?

Margie:

Good question.

Unknown:

I don't know I because there's either he can be he can be a neutral deck. He's a boy you

Margie:

be a boy. You just be a boy. We're just a boy while

Rachel:

shit that he does as far as like, reading minds without consent and all that shit. It's not necessarily he doesn't do it maliciously. It's just the detached not understanding why it's wrong. It's ignorance out of ignorance almost. Well, I mean,

Margie:

I kind of empathize just because like I can imagine if you've been doing it for so long, and you have the ability to do it. You don't see it as wrong anymore.

Rachel:

Exactly. And that's the problem. And that's what some of the older angels are shown to have completely detached from that. And the whole thing with his, his girl is that she's pulling him back from that detachment. That's why I'm like so torn about him because he was a dick, but it wasn't willfully like malicious. Okay. Okay, but if he's still a deck is still it's like to still take then his personality is just shitty. Again, like, I

Unknown:

don't know if that time riding along with him. Like in the book itself.

Rachel:

Yeah. Like I didn't hate him by the end at first. I did. By the end of it. I was like,

Margie:

really attracted to him. Yeah, okay. Okay, okay. That's a good question was

Rachel:

okay, so to plot plot was pretty actually my day and it's the world that was fucking crazy, right? So yeah, it's like a three. The sex I legitimately don't remember.

Margie:

Raphael he came. He wipe your memories.

Rachel:

Oh, shit. Yeah, as you do forget. Well, we're not gonna forget we're gonna do under the under

Margie:

the covers. So joke's on him. Yeah,

Rachel:

I say probably like two and a half. It was probably fine. It was probably

Margie:

fine. But you also don't remember it?

Rachel:

It's probably overall. I mean, it was a fun I liked the book. I really did. I enjoyed reading it. It's just crazy,

Margie:

right? Give it a five the world is just insane. Yeah, the world is insane. The but the people are relatable. And the plot you can actually follow

Rachel:

him RJ. Oh, the world is a vampire. Okay, sorry. You said the world's insane I was like ah Yeah, notes there. Yeah, I don't know. Overall I give it a five or six. All right. I liked it. I did. If I was hot, okay. Yeah. Yeah. So that was Angel's fingers. We did it. See? That was so much more interesting than the book I had read. I just, it was a man or a boy. It

Margie:

was wild. Yeah, yeah.

Rachel:

Yeah. Yeah, I mean, welcome. You've been indoctrinated. Now.

Unknown:

I'm so thrilled to have been part of this, especially a book that involves healing saliva and vampire person, obviously, because

Rachel:

right, I'm so proud. Also, I

Margie:

did ask you, you said that he didn't have healing powers. I would. I would argue that he did. She

Rachel:

didn't heal her. Okay. She became an angel. An angel. Foma.

Unknown:

Okay, that's true. Yes. Yeah. Yeah. Which they could have gotten both of them fixed a lot faster. If they just had really broken Angel sex. I just want to point that

Rachel:

out. Well, thank you. Thank you on that fucking ride with

Unknown:

thank you for making it a three seater. I really appreciate it.
