Xavier [0:36 - 1:51]: Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of the New to Wrestling podcast. This week we watched Survivor series 1997. The big kahuna, honey. Montreal. Montreal. Screw job of it all. And we will get there. We will get there and we will probably keep on getting there in an after dark following this episode. But as far as Survivor Series 97 is concerned, the match card is as follows. We have the New Age Outlaws and the Godwins taking on the Headbangers and the New Blackjacks in our first Survivor Series match. In our next Survivor Series match, we have the Truth Commission, all of them taking on the disciples of the Apocalypse. All of them. Next we have what is finally the. What I hope is finally the culmination of this Canada American feud that's been going on for the better part of 1997. Who knew that such hostilities had risen between the two allies? So really. So the teams are consisting of Canada got the Bulldog, Doug Furniss and Philip Lafon and I knew it. And Ville Neidhart. Kelsey did call this. 

Kelsey Silva [1:51 - 1:53]: Actually, I called this. 

Xavier [1:54 - 2:03]: And on Team USA we have Vader Goldust, Mark Miro and the debuting C. Blackman. Very interesting. 

Kelsey Silva [2:03 - 2:06]: Not the Patriot Diva and not the Patriot. 

Xavier [2:07 - 2:55]: Don't know where he is. Don't really care. Next we have Mankind taking on Kane and his in ring debut. Next we have another Survivor Series match which is the Road Warriors, Ken Shamrock and Ahmed Johnson, AKA the natural extensions of the Road warriors at this point versus the Nation of Domination. All of them. We have the Intercontinental championship on the line when Stone Cold Steve Austin finally tries to extract some revenge against Owen Hart. And in our main event we have Shawn Michaels taking on Bret Hart for the WWF Championship. Guys, hello. Hello. If you are new here, you are in luck. That is Kelsey. She is also new here.

So for those of you who are, I guess, religious viewers, listeners, all of you guys and have been following on a week to week basis, you know that we have been following every Monday night raw since 1996. Unfortunately, with the grand change from Peacock to Netflix, as we know, we have lost a great many an episode. So because I do unfortunately have to work for a living, I kind of don't have time to scour the Internet for every episode of Raw out there. 

Kelsey Silva [3:48 - 3:51]: You did really try Though really try, and I really did. 

Xavier [3:51 - 4:27]: I found some here or there, and if I deem them worth sneaking in, we will watch a bootleg version or two. But in the interim, we're gonna just kind of recap the episodes that we miss, watch the episodes that are available to us as well as the pay per views, because all of those are still on Peacock and kind of look forward to more After Dark sprinkled in. We're gonna. We're gonna throw in a kind of an. A more eclectic education at you, I guess, this upcoming year, just because it's gonna be different.

Xavier [5:40 - 5:48]: Usually a different kind of energy when we get back together. Yeah, it was a good time. We had a. We had a snow day. It was lovely snow day.

Xavier, the last time he was here too, like, I had, like, a cataclysmic life event happen, and something similar happened this weekend, and I was like, okay, so when you come here next, what's happening? Am I losing my job? Is the house turning down, like, what's.

Xavier [6:30 - 7:08]: Love that, love that, love that. Yeah, no problem. All right, guys, so in the last episode of Raw that we watched, that was the October, like, 13th episode. So I'm going to very quickly recap for you the match cards as well as some needs. Needs to knows from those episodes that kind of lead us into Survivor Series and then we'll get into the nitty gritty of Survivor Series. So guys, if you have a tea, you have a coffee, you got a blanket, just. Just get ready. This one's gonna be a bit longer. We got a bit more, I don't. 

Kelsey Silva [7:08 - 7:10]: Know, material, source material. 

Xavier [7:10 - 7:53]: Yeah, yeah, yeah. We got. We got stuff we gotta cover discussion. All right, so we're talking raw is war 10, 20, 97. All right, so that's the following episode off of where we left off. The Nation of Domination, comma, and Rocky take on Ahmed Johnson and Ken Shamrock. There is apparently in this episode some. Some defamement of the Nation of Domination locker room door with some racism. And it seems there's like a clover or like a. A maple leaf, like left at the scene, pointing to like the heart foundation. Yeah, all of this stuff. 

Kelsey Silva [7:53 - 7:54]: Maple leaf left at the scene. 

Xavier [7:55 - 8:00]: I know. Crazy. It was. Yeah, it was clearly the Canadian with the maple leaf at the. At the locker room, you know. 

Kelsey Silva [8:00 - 8:02]: Yeah, because they carry those around all the time. Right. 

Xavier [8:02 - 8:38]: Like they're throwing stars. Anyway, so Farouk apparently obviously takes great umbrage with this and demands his match to be now instead of later on in the evening. So he takes on Bret Hart. Mark Miro takes on Brian Christopher. I guess Mark Miro will kind of be in that light heavyweight kind of division. It fits. It works. I love it. Also, this is the episode where we really start to see the Mark Miro is jealous of Sable angle. It's going to come up. We. We've been saying it. We. We've been saying it. 

Kelsey Silva [8:38 - 8:41]: We've been saying it, girl, I'm jealous of Sable at this point. 

Xavier [8:41 - 10:11]: That's what I'm saying. So this episode we get the kind of first outing of the New Age Outlaws. The newly re crowned Billy Gun no longer rockabilly and the newly crowned road dog no longer Double J takes on the headbangers. We are gonna see this kind of, I guess, theme with the New Age Outlaws. They're gonna get their ass handed to them the whole Time, they're gonna che wee hours of the match and pull out a victory. So that's just. Look forward to that. Taka Michinoku takes on Yoshihiro Tajiri. I love Tajiri. I love Taka. It was probably great. I'm sure I'm gonna find it somewhere on YouTube in this. In the depths. And then our main event has the doa, Eight Ball and Skull, the bald twinsies taking on the Godwins. So highlights from this match, this episode, we see the return of Jeff Jarrett. Jeff Jarrett returns from wcw, and he's ends up having a lot to say. We'll hear about it in the kind of next episode. And going forward, yeah, he goes to wcw, realizes that you have to kiss the ring of Eric Bischoff. And if you don't, you're not going anywhere. 

Kelsey Silva [10:11 - 10:18]: So he comes back and respectfully, I'm kissing that hand. I know he doesn't wash them. 

Xavier [10:19 - 10:20]: No, I know where it's been. 

Kelsey Silva [10:21 - 10:29]: Or he washes them too much. Like, you know, people are like, really fucking. Oh, sorry. Really freaky about, like, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. 

Xavier [10:29 - 10:31]: Mm. I know. 

Kelsey Silva [10:31 - 10:33]: I know him too. 

Xavier [10:33 - 10:41]: And you're like, girl, I feel like this is happening. Like, you're going all the way around. Do you know what I mean? Like, you're so fearful of germs that now you can't handle any of them, any germs. 

Kelsey Silva [10:41 - 10:47]: And, like, I know they say cleanliness is close to godliness, but then why are you Satan incarnate, right? 

Xavier [10:48 - 10:52]: You know what? If I'm trying to be closer to God, I'm gonna go the higher hair option. You know what I mean? 

Kelsey Silva [10:54 - 10:56]: You know, if it's literally me, I'm. 

Xavier [10:56 - 11:00]: Like, you know what I mean? Like, if I'm gonna use one of those bigger. 

Kelsey Silva [11:00 - 11:00]: The hair. 

Xavier [11:01 - 11:07]: Yeah. If I'm gonna use one of those, like, southern expressions to, like, really go about my life, it's gonna be the higher the hair. 

Kelsey Silva [11:07 - 11:17]: And this is why the higher the hair, the closer to heaven. And that's the. The root I'm sticking to. Thank you for that. That was beautiful. 

Xavier [11:17 - 11:52]: Thank you. Amen. So this episode also sees Dude Love, who was supposed to take on the British Bulldog, get absolutely annihilated by Kane. He tries to get a couple shots in with a chair. God bless Nick Foley. But of course, he gets choke slammed onto the scene stage for his troubles. We also get a promo from the Undertaker very. I will not fight my flesh and blood. I won't do it. I will never fight Kane. Never. And you know as well as love. They love to say never. 

Kelsey Silva [11:52 - 11:53]: Love to say never. 

Xavier [11:53 - 11:58]: And wrestling, like Kelsey, loves to be proven wrong. 

Kelsey Silva [12:00 - 12:06]: I love to be wrong. And honestly, wrestling is like never. And then the next thing I know, it's. 

Xavier [12:06 - 12:08]: It's exactly that. 

Kelsey Silva [12:09 - 12:10]: Let's get into it. 

Xavier [12:10 - 13:37]: No. 100%. All right, so that's the 10:20 episode for you guys. We're gonna move on to 10:27. So the match card is. We have Triple H taking on Gold Dust. Triple H is gonna come out on top of that one. Ahmed Johnson takes on Owen Hartford, the Intercontinental Championship. Ahmed Johnson wins this match by disqualification because Stone Cold Steve Austin, who still has many a gripe with Owen Hart, says, no, Owen's keeping the title. No, no, no. Because I'm going to take it. Thank you. If it's not gonna be me, it's gonna be. Nobody takes on Ken Shamrock in a WWF Championship match. Go off, Ken. Get your. Get your title shot. It ends in a no contest due to the everybody fighting as things typically. We see another outing of Billy Gunn and the Road Dog. This time they're taking on the new Blackjacks. Very much the same story. Getting their ass handed to them. Cheat to win. Mark Miro takes on Flash Funk, which was apparently a very, very good back and forth kind of match. I think Flash Funk is the kind of wrestler that would force kind of that old style of Mark Miro out. You know, I love Flash. I love around a little bit more. Yes. But Mark Miro picks up the victory because we're kind of getting. I feel like we're putting the legs back under him. No pun intended, due to the knee injury. 

Kelsey Silva [13:41 - 13:43]: No pun intended. But it's right there if you want. 

Xavier [13:43 - 13:56]: To grab it 100%. I'm like, I have like the grace of, you know, in like Big Daddy, when he takes the stick and throws it in front of the Rollerblader, like, I feel like that's like you're like. 

Kelsey Silva [13:56 - 14:02]: You could have avoided it. I just put it there right to see something the worst. 

Xavier [14:03 - 14:49]: And in our main, main event, we have the Legion of Zoom taking all this work was in a non title match this episode we get another Jim Cornette rant this time. We got one last week, but it was more of a continuation of the film Mushnik 1. And I'm just gonna let that lie. So Jim Cornett rants this week. He goes back on. What I really want to see is him ranting and raving about WCW. And he goes on to call out the Hogan vs. Cage match. That was Lauded over at WCW for being the like best cage match ever. And he's like, really? Three weeks after the. After Hell in a Cell, you're gonna throw those dinosaurs in a cage and tell me that like it's Jurassic park match ever? 

Kelsey Silva [14:50 - 14:55]: No, baby, there's frogs in that DNA. 

Xavier [14:55 - 14:58]: I was like, you're. You're not gonna do that with me, baby. 

Kelsey Silva [14:58 - 15:17]: And Hell in a Cell. It's so crazy. Crystal, my roommate asked me, she was like, I would love to watch like what your thus far favorite wrestling match that you and Xavier have covered has been like, I'd love to watch like one or two matches with you. And I said, oh my God, we should. 

Xavier [15:17 - 15:18]: And get her on. 

Kelsey Silva [15:18 - 15:31]: Yeah. And I. Oh, that would. She would hate that. But I, I said either a match with Sting in it just because I find him to be so gorgeous. 

Xavier [15:31 - 15:32]: Right? 

Kelsey Silva [15:32 - 15:40]: I'm like. Or I said Helen a cell girl. Helena Cell. Was it. 

Xavier [15:40 - 15:41]: It was really. 

Kelsey Silva [15:41 - 15:48]: It was it. You cannot tell me that the dinosaur race that occurred at wcw. 

Xavier [15:48 - 15:53]: Honestly, I love Roddy Piper. I really do. I like. No disrespect to that man. 

Kelsey Silva [15:53 - 15:54]: No, not at all. But. 

Xavier [15:54 - 15:59]: But Hogan, honey, we know how I feel about that one. 

Kelsey Silva [15:59 - 15:59]: Me too. 

Xavier [16:01 - 17:43]: So yeah, go off Jim Cornette. Love to see it. We get a sit down interview between Junior and Jeff Jarrett. That's where we kind of get the gist of the. I didn't kiss the ring over at wcw so I wasn't going anywhere. Goes on to be like, I don't want to be Double J anymore. Like doesn't want to do the country character anymore. Very short lived, very much so. Ends up doing some version of that character. And then it is announced that we are going to get a Light Heavyweight championship tournament beginning the following week. Which takes us to raw is war 11 3. So we are now in November guys. So this one's short on the matches because this is like the go home one to Survivor Series. So we have Akilah taking on Super Loco or Super Crazy if you know him from wcw, not wcw. Ecw. His later days in wwe. He actually recently just had like an independent match where he was like doing a like a moonsault off of a balcony. 53 years old. Love that man. Go to town. Wow. Mark Miro takes on Savio Vega. Vader takes on the British Bulldog in a dog collar match where we get the first introduction of Steve Blackman. He gets introduced as like a fan that was just so like incensed by what was happening that he like got involved and he is a like martial Arts expert, which he very much so is, but very much so not a fan. So welcome to the wwf. Steve Blackman. 

Kelsey Silva [17:43 - 17:44]: He's cute. 

Xavier [17:44 - 17:45]: Very much. 

Kelsey Silva [17:46 - 17:46]: Sorry. 

Xavier [17:46 - 19:05]: That's great. You're not wrong. We get another New Age Outlaws match, this time against those Boriquas. And then in our main event, we have Ken Shamrock taking on Shawn Michaels for the European Championship. He's getting title shots left and right. And Ken, of course, wins by DQ due to many an involvement from dx, her foundation. All the madness segments in this one, the big one, the big kahuna, is we see the turning of gold dust. We get like an update kind of video from, you know, Terry and Dustin. We're like, they're giving us updates on their lives. Terry's like, yeah, you know, like this, that the other. And then like, gold is just like. Actually, everything you're saying makes me sick. Like, this family makes me sick. You make me sick. And basically he goes on to be like, oh, when you. While you were getting yours, while you were out with Brian, like, I was getting mine. And so chaos ensues. So apparently Goldust now sees Marlena as a ball and chain. So here we go. Here. 

Kelsey Silva [19:05 - 19:20]: I. And I want to say it is by the grace of God that this episode was not shown to me because I would have so many things to say about this because I just want to. And I will just say this. Imagine inviting people into your home just to turn on your wife on television. 

Xavier [19:20 - 19:21]: No, isn't that. 

Kelsey Silva [19:21 - 19:58]: I do not like that. I do not like that. I do not like. And I understand. It's the business. It's the business. We're. You said you're. We're pillmanizing. Like they're actually having problems in their real life relationship. So they're. They're pillmanizing the problem to make it part of the story. But I don't like, mess like that. Like, please invite the cameras into my house just so my wife can think that we're, we're fine, everything's fine. And then I turn on her without her knowing it in front of people. I. The way. And I know we have so much to get through, so I'm leaving it at that. 

Xavier [19:58 - 19:58]: No, no, no. 

Kelsey Silva [19:59 - 20:05]: We're not new to this show. You know what I would say? I don't have to say anything. I don't have to say anything. 

Xavier [20:05 - 20:10]: So we'll see how that unfolds. Well, we do. We do see a little bit of smidge. 

Kelsey Silva [20:10 - 20:11]: Yeah. 

Xavier [20:12 - 20:19]: But. All right, guys. That brings us to Survivor Series 1997. 

Kelsey Silva [20:19 - 20:23]: Did I survive this series? It's anybody's guess, yo. 

Xavier [20:24 - 20:32]: No, really and truly. All right, guys. So of course this one's gonna open up with a classic promo for the main event. We got. 

Kelsey Silva [20:32 - 20:33]: I like. 

Xavier [20:33 - 20:34]: Good. It was. It was real good. 

Kelsey Silva [20:34 - 20:36]: We got black and white. 

Xavier [20:36 - 20:53]: Mm. It's so. It takes us all the way back to WrestleMania 12 and the Iron man match and lots of cutaways to Bret Hart saying some heinous things about Shawn Michaels. Shawn Michaels, of course, dancing around crocs chopping it up, doing his thing. 

Kelsey Silva [20:53 - 21:14]: They had a part where, like, like, Shawn Michaels is going crazy with the crotch, like, really going for it. And the over, like, speaking thing is just. You are a disgrace to the World Wrestling Federation. So Sean, like, gyrating for his life, and it's just like, you are a disgrace. So fierce. 

Xavier [21:14 - 21:43]: So accurate, though. So fiercely. He's just like. It cuts back to where he's like. He's a phony little. And you're like, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. He's like, I don't respect you. We get. We get cut. Bout back to SummerSlam with a special guest referee moment. Then the chaos that is Shawn Michaels, like, forming dx being an absolute menace. Love to see it. The animosity was very high. It was a great promo. 

Kelsey Silva [21:43 - 21:47]: It was great. I can't. Yeah, we'll. We'll get there. 

Xavier [21:47 - 22:19]: We'll get there. So in our first match, we have the Headbangers and. And the new Blackjacks taking on the Godwins and the New Age Outlaws. Godwin said full confederacy this episode. The. I'm just going to address this now, and then I'm going to the homophobia girl. This, like, what was going on Montreal. What? Like, it was okay. I know. 

Kelsey Silva [22:19 - 22:20]: Rampant. 

Xavier [22:20 - 22:26]: Rampant. Okay. It was like, so many signs. So many signs. 

Kelsey Silva [22:26 - 22:27]: So many signs. 

Xavier [22:27 - 22:53]: So many things that were said and chance. So many. So many. And I was just like. Like, normally. I'm just like, I get it, I get it. But I literally. I was watching. I was like, I don't think I would, like, survive this building. Like, the vibes of this place make me feel not good. 

Kelsey Silva [22:54 - 22:55]: Yes. 

Xavier [22:55 - 23:04]: Because it was crazy. I can normally take it because it's 1997 and I, like, understand that times have changed to an extent, you know? 

Kelsey Silva [23:04 - 23:05]: Sure. 

Xavier [23:05 - 23:37]: But, like, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. It was everywhere. And then the road dog does like a. Like a. Like a type 5, basically calling the headbangers. He said all the steers and queers are already in the ring. He calls the headbangers the Butt Bangers. It's just like, what is happening? There was, like, nine signs that had just all over it, some iteration. There was like, four. Like, yeah, nothing. 

Kelsey Silva [23:37 - 23:41]: Not even, like, this person is. And there were plenty of those also. 

Xavier [23:41 - 23:42]: Right. 

Kelsey Silva [23:42 - 24:00]: It was just, like, generally, like, the f. Slur everybody for everybody. And I was watching it and, like, the whole time because, you know, I'm always trying to clock the signs. And I was like, like. And I was like, am I reading too much into this? Like, am I taking. 

Xavier [24:00 - 24:03]: No, it was a lot. Like, it was a lot, a lot. 

Kelsey Silva [24:03 - 24:18]: And then I was like, towards the end of the episode, we both went, like, a lot of homophobia here tonight. Am I, like, am I crazy? And we were both like, okay, no, this is. And it was like, this person is queer. This person is. And also when you put a queer worse.

Kelsey Silva [1:12:42 - 1:12:56]: That was disgust me. How dare you. And also to go so far as to paint your face to look like Animal. You sicken me. How dare you touch those shoulder pads, you nasty little. I just. I don't like that. I do not like that. 

Xavier [1:12:56 - 1:13:12]: I. I will say I do appreciate the extra. The extra mile. You know what I mean? Like, don't get me wrong. Like, I. I, you know, I love lod, but, like, the extra mile, like, oh, no, no, no. I'm gonna go back there and, like, dress up like you crazy.

DLO taps Rocky, comes in with a chair thinking, oh, like, if it worked for Bulldog, it's gonna work for me. Swings, hits him. Ken kicks out, Hits Ken with a float over ddt. Ken kicks out, hits him with the people's elbow. Ken kicks out. Ken finally gets his. Hits Rocky with a crazy, like, it's kind of like a overhead throw, but I think Rocky, like, holds on too long. Like, Ken's neck gets a little jerky, and it looks weird. It was really hits a hurricane Rana that also kind of drops himself on his head. And I was like, girl, you have to stop landing on your head like that because you're making me nervous. Hits Rocky with an ankle lock. Rocky taps. Elementary, dear Watson. Love to see it. I. 

Kelsey Silva [1:14:33 - 1:15:05]: And. And Ken was going ballistic. I. I was like, look at you out there. Look at you. Look at you when you said it was knuckle up time, I said, that can't be a real time. That can't be real. Then you come out here, who this goofy. Who is it? And you knuckled up. And I hate to say it, it's actually making me, like, my mouth dry. I don't like to. It's icky. I don't like it, but I don't like it, Ken. And then he was screaming. He had like an apoplectic.

Kelsey Silva [1:15:07 - 1:15:15]: Shrieking. They loved it. They loved it. I kind of liked it too. I thought it was pretty good.

Xavier [1:15:26 - 1:16:01]: Love to see it. Love to see the growth. Next we get a Austin Owen video package. Basically the gist of it is like, Austin is a tough son of a. We've been know this. It takes us all the way back to the king of the ring 96, where he gets injured, goes to the hospital, gets stitched up, comes back, wins the king of the ring. I love this one scene where Austin is preparing a bow and arrow that he has mounted a photo of Owen Hart to the back of a, like, fake donkey. What is it? A donkey? 

Kelsey Silva [1:16:01 - 1:16:02]: A deer. 

Xavier [1:16:03 - 1:16:04]: She's like, yeah, yeah. 

Kelsey Silva [1:16:04 - 1:16:07]: Like a hunting thing that hunting people do.

Kelsey Silva [1:16:36 - 1:16:51]: Well, I also realized this time around that they added it to Owen's like, intro packet. Like, when he walks out, they play. Played it over. Excuse me. And over and over. And. And I was like, okay, hey, we get it. 

Xavier [1:16:51 - 1:17:39]: We get it. Owen makes his entrance flanked by Team Canada. Interesting. And Owen looks so good. So good for him. Stone Cold makes his entrance. As he does. We're in the ring night. Heart is like sneaking into the ring on the opposite side of where Owen and the rest of Team Canada are standing. So Steve Austin is obviously has attention on the majority of the people. And he catches 900 at like the last second. Nails him with a stunner. Neidhart doesn't know where he is, which isn't revolutionary. Love that line really, really. I love when people just get called dumb. 

Kelsey Silva [1:17:40 - 1:17:44]: Like, that was so mean, but it was really funny. 

Xavier [1:17:44 - 1:18:07]: Dara said he big, but he dumb. So funny. Owen doesn't really like how the match kind of gets started. So he looks like he's like, all right, you know what? Never mind. We're gonna go. Don't. Don't really want this. Don't really want any part of this. Austin's like, I don't know where you think you're going. I've been waiting for this one.

Then he's like, I'm trying to. I'm trying to take this title home. I don't care.

Which really was kind of like the. The first, like, punch in the face to the Canadian crowd because the knockout Blow is coming right now.

That takes us into our main event, guys. Shawn Michaels takes on Brett Hart. We get a cutaway to the backstage areas as both wrestlers are make. Making. Preparing to make their entrances. We cut to DX first. China looks so good. 

Kelsey Silva [1:21:11 - 1:21:24]: She didn't even go ringside. And I love, I love a girl who will do all that just for the entrance to walk Talk on that. 13 seconds in the camera. Backless, right? Glistening, gorgeous. 

Xavier [1:21:27 - 1:22:10]: Fantastic, Fantastic. We get Shawn Michaels entrance. He comes out, of course, he absolutely just degrades the Canadian flag. At one point he's, you know, fornicating with it. And we have a sign in the crowds that says, Rick Rude would rather be in China. Very funny. Another note, the homophobia is real. Yeah. And then we kind of get the same kind of cutaway to the heart foundation making their entrance. We get Bret Hart entrance. He does the glasses thing. Oh, my God. And Kelsey and are just like walking like, we're like sitting there. Let's just like watch, watching this happen. We're just like, he doesn't know. 

Kelsey Silva [1:22:10 - 1:22:12]: That was the worst part. 

Xavier [1:22:12 - 1:22:13]: He doesn't know. 

Kelsey Silva [1:22:13 - 1:22:15]: It makes me sick.

Kelsey Silva [1:22:18 - 1:22:37]: I really am so glad that. And we can talk about this after the match. But I really am so glad that I knew before we watched because I really wouldn't have understood what had happened. Like, and it sucked knowing, but also, like, I was able to. I feel like I was able to actually pay attention more if that makes sense. 

Xavier [1:22:37 - 1:22:40]: Because I was like, you know, that. 

Kelsey Silva [1:22:40 - 1:22:41]: Yeah, and we'll get into it. 

Xavier [1:22:41 - 1:23:14]: But I was like, so the match begin. Well, the match doesn't begin. They start fighting. They start fighting. They start fighting. They start fighting everywhere. They go into the crowd. And like, not even just like those, like out, you know, those like allocated breaks and wrestling shows. If you're not new to wrestling, you know what I'm talking about, where there's like, like clearly like wrestlers like, sat on the corners so that when they get thrown into, like, people that there's like, they're getting thrown into wrestlers, you know, like how like award shows, like, place people, they'll do that. With wrestlers. 

Kelsey Silva [1:23:14 - 1:23:17]: Like, I didn't know that. That's so smart. 

Xavier [1:23:17 - 1:23:44]: So this was not that they fully went into the crowd, and the crowd was, like, swarming. And you can see like, how, like, crazy it got because there's, like. If you look around them, there's, like, four or five referees just, like, trying to, like, just, like, separate the mosh pit around that, like, forming around them. I was like, baby, you're the main. You are the reason all of these 20,000 people are here. 

Kelsey Silva [1:23:44 - 1:23:45]: Yeah, girl. 

Xavier [1:23:45 - 1:23:52]: You decided to just be like, let me just throw my body in them. Which was probably great for them in the show, but. 

Kelsey Silva [1:23:52 - 1:23:55]: Yeah, but also, people can't be cool.

Kelsey Silva [1:23:56 - 1:24:13]: Like, people can't just let things happen. They have to be, like, touching, grabbing, getting in the way, because they just have to do it. And, like, I guess you never know what you're gonna do in that moment, but it's like, can you just, like, be in the front row, like, be exposed to it and, like, not have to, like, really put yourself in harm's way just for the sake of it?

Kelsey Silva [1:24:14 - 1:24:24]: Because, like, when. Even when, like, like, singers go into the audience wherever, and they, like, get ripped, and it's like, can you just, like, let them let, like, let there be a moment. I don't know. That always, like, irritates me, but whatever. 

Xavier [1:24:24 - 1:25:30]: It's like, calm down. So of course people are swarming. Junior mentions on commentary the speculations about Bret Hart and his future. It is known like, he's going. He's going to WCW at this point, basically. Well, and we'll get into it. Um, when we get into After Dark, we'll get into the many sides of this story. So it's just interesting that he talked about it, like, on commentary. Of course, all the officials come down because they're like, hey, like, we need, like, a world title match. So, like, they're trying to get them to stop. Jay. Vince McMahon's down there just, like, hooting and hollering, yelling at the both of them. They're still fighting. Still fighting. I have. This was crazy. Brett hits Sean with a back suplex, followed up by, like, a regular suplex on the concrete. He gets hit with a fire extinguisher. Brett's punching refs, absolute madness. They're fighting all over the arena. 

Kelsey Silva [1:25:31 - 1:25:32]: Match has finally. 

Xavier [1:25:32 - 1:25:55]: No, the. They finally drag both of their ass, like, back to the ring. The bell rings, as. At the same time that Bret Hart is choking Shawn Michaels with a Quebec flag is just like. And you're just like. And immediately Junior's like the match has started. So, like, this is illegal. 

Kelsey Silva [1:25:55 - 1:25:56]: Oh, my God. 

Xavier [1:25:56 - 1:26:19]: Crazy. So absolute bonkers. Yeah. Brett hits Sean with a gut buster on the steel steps. I have a note about the. When he goes for the. The figure 4 around the ring post, he really smacks his leg on that. That bar. 

Kelsey Silva [1:26:19 - 1:26:21]: You heard the crunch. 

Xavier [1:26:21 - 1:26:27]: Yeah. I was like, holy. Like, that was like, I'm trying to hurt you. 

Kelsey Silva [1:26:27 - 1:26:30]: Like, that was violence. 

Xavier [1:26:30 - 1:26:43]: Yeah, that was gross. And even the way he went into the figure, it just like, really. And again, he's probably just very good at what he does, but it really did look like he was trying to rip his leg out. Like, yes. Sock it. Like. 

Kelsey Silva [1:26:43 - 1:27:12]: But even because of the positioning, like, Shawn Michaels was like, up again, like, really against the post. It almost was like, it just gave him, like, no leeway to, like, leave. Like, it looked more aggressive than the usual. And like, because we know, like, the undertones of their relationship. I was like, can't help but feel like this is on purpose. I don't know. Like. Yeah, because even some of the punches and stuff, I was like, well, literally. 

Xavier [1:27:12 - 1:27:36]: Junior goes like, this is gonna be stiff. And like, that's what they. Like, this is like, they're gonna work stiff. Like they're gonna hit each other. Other, like, because they don't like each other. He gave, like, the warning. He's like, they're not going to pull punches. Like, they're going to like, they do not like each other. He tried to preface it as much as he could. So, yeah, I don't. I think some of those punches were very real. 

Kelsey Silva [1:27:38 - 1:27:40]: I just. Oh, it's so crazy. 

Xavier [1:27:40 - 1:28:00]: Brett starts. Yeah, I know. Brett starts ramping up for the. The sharpshooter. So crazy. Oh, I thought this was pretty interesting. As he's, like, attacking Shawn Michael's legs, you start hearing a like, Brett sold out chant. I don't know if you. 

Kelsey Silva [1:28:00 - 1:28:02]: I didn't even notice. No, I didn't. 

Xavier [1:28:02 - 1:28:11]: There. There's like a small, like, chance just like, saying that Brett sold out because they know that he's going to WCW and they're calling him out for it. 

Kelsey Silva [1:28:11 - 1:28:15]: And even there were signs, like, good luck@get WCW. Brett. 

Xavier [1:28:15 - 1:30:28]: Yeah. So people, like, knew there was speculation about it. We get a classic figure four in the middle of the ring. Of course, Sean sells it like a million bucks. He turns the hold over. The hold gets broken because Bret Hart gets into the the ropes, forcing the break. HBK at one point, pulls the referee into the oncoming Bret Hart, who is jumping off of. Of the Middle rope as he does. And that then sets us up for HBK to throw on the sharpshooter where Earl, Earl Hebner rings the bell. Shawn Michaels is the champion. Brett never submits. And the Montreal Screwjob lives in infamy from that day forward. You see, and we'll talk about this in the upcoming episode of After Dark. You see Vince immediately jump up to ringside and basically get, like, in Brett's, like, line of vision. He goes, I wanted him to know it was me. Like, I did it. And Brett, of course, spits in his face. And we will see more footage when we watch Dark side of the Ring and whatever other things when we watch, when we discuss the Montreal Screw job, we see that he really goes, like, postal. He starts, like, breaking down the announced desks, throwing the cameras. He, like, at the hard cam spells out WCW and like, giant letters. Sean gets out of there. He hightails it with Hefner and Triple H. Because the, I think supposedly the only people that know are Hunter, Sean, Earl Hebner, and Vince McMahon. So they get out of there, and it's just crazy. Crazy. 

Kelsey Silva [1:30:29 - 1:30:57]: So Junior and Jerry didn't know either there? No, because when Junior said, like, you want to talk about, like, unfair or he said something, like, something. And I was like, yeah. Oh, my God, it kills me. When did we talk? I know we talked about this. I can't remember, because what, what did we watch that it was in. I'm like, blacking out. The Montreal Screw Job. 

Xavier [1:30:59 - 1:31:03]: Was it like a. The Monday Night wars or something of that nature? No. 

Kelsey Silva [1:31:03 - 1:31:05]: Oh, my God, Why can't I. 

Xavier [1:31:05 - 1:31:06]: It had to have been an After Dark. 

Kelsey Silva [1:31:06 - 1:31:14]: It was an After Dark. I just can't remember, like, which one one it was now. Oh, it, no, it was, it was the Vince McMahon documentary. 

Xavier [1:31:15 - 1:31:16]: Oh, you're right. You're right, you're right. 

Kelsey Silva [1:31:16 - 1:32:34]: It was Vince McMahon documentary. And I just remember, like, because I've seen the, the footage of after where he, like, goes ballistic and, and stuff. And what really got me was, like, one, I just, I just, when he, when we kept saying, like, he just doesn't know. And, like, knowing that, like, Sean is going to the ring, Hunter is, like, walking with him. Earl, like, seeing Earl, I was like, and I know that they know and like, Brett being the last to know. And, like, obviously it had to be that way. Like, he couldn't have known, but I, I, I just, like, it just got me. Oh, my God. And like, when, because he had mentioned in the Vince documentary that Sean was going to put the Sharpshooter on him. Like, that was always a part of it. And Sean actually starts to get into it incorrectly, and Brett's like, I actually had to correct him and tell him to switch my legs or whatever. And I saw that happen, and I was like, they literally corrected him to put him in the right way just to get himself. Like, it just makes me so upset. I don't know why. I just hate it, like, so badly. And I know that you have your feelings about it because you're like, you just. You. What do you say? 

Xavier [1:32:34 - 1:32:35]: You out. 

Kelsey Silva [1:32:35 - 1:32:36]: You always go out on your back. 

Xavier [1:32:36 - 1:32:39]: Yeah. Yeah. It's just a wrestling tradition. 

Kelsey Silva [1:32:39 - 1:33:14]: Yeah, I know. I just hate it. I just hate it. And I. You guys don't even know. I texted Xavier, like, when was this? Like, a few days ago. Because we were like, you were like, we can't find the. The Raw episod. We're just gonna do Survivor Series. And I was like, all right. And then I was like. I was like, oh, my God, no. And I was like, I. I wasted so much time, like, hating Brad's heel turn that I, like, I just didn't embrace that this was it. Like, I'm really sad. I'm really sad that this is it for Brett. Like, I hate this so bad.

Kelsey Silva [1:33:16 - 1:33:17]: And I hate that I feel this way. 

Xavier [1:33:17 - 1:34:54]: But I was like, no, but it really is, because he goes and, like, he'll talk about it. Like, he goes to wcw and they didn't have anything. Like, they had nothing for him. Like, they just didn't know because they did. They brought him over there in the same, like, with the same, like, thought process that they brought all the other, like, bigger stars. They're like, oh, like, WWE can't have them. Like, we'll just guarantee them a bunch of money and, like, blah, blah, blah, blah. But the thing is, like, like, the way WCW was set up was set up, like, the way that it is before Brett even gets there. So, like, the people that are on top are on top and are going to stay there. Like, it's not. And then the. We're going to very shortly start seeing the revolving door of, like, management that also is just, like, doesn't know what to do with him. And. Yeah. So it just ends up. And then, of course, we know about the injury with Goldberg while he's there, and it's just from there that pretty much, like, ends his career until he has, like, a very short run in, like, 2010. He comes back for, like, a little bit, and he's such a. He's such a dude. Like, such a dude. He, like, didn't want to just, like, come back for, like. Like, tv. Like, he started doing, like, house shows. Crazy guy. Crazy guy. Yeah. So. And then, you know, we know he has a stroke. He has, like, you know, health issues, and then he kind of just like, retires officially after that point. 

Kelsey Silva [1:34:54 - 1:34:56]: Makes me so sad.

But I like to at least feel like at least you had something and then to, like, that doesn't even work out. Like, oh, God. And like, the last place you were just. I don't know, it just makes me.

I was like, I would never survive in the wrestling business. I would never make it. Like, I just. I'm too. I get too sentimental and too attached to things. And, like, with the wrestling business, you have to be like. And I. What do I know? But I assume you just have to be such like, a. Like, you kind of have to just, like, release things and pivot and, like, whatever. And, like, I just. This. This would upset me. Like, this would really upset. Upset me. 

Xavier [1:36:05 - 1:36:12]: I mean, and it was. It is very upsetting for a lot of fans. Like, a lot of fans, like, are very hung up on this. So to this day. 

Kelsey Silva [1:36:13 - 1:36:44]: Well, I. I'll never forget when we went to Suplex Vintage Wrestling, and they started talking about it, and I was like, like. And I walked away. And now I'm like, now I can't wait to take part in these conversations because I'm going to have words like, I was like. And the only thing. And I think Xavier. I had sent Xavier an audio message of, like, whatever. And he was like, I'm gonna use it for something stupid about, like, my feelings about this, but. Or realizing that it was the last time I was gonna see him wrestle. And it was like, the last match he gets screwed over. 

Xavier [1:36:44 - 1:36:45]: Right. 

Kelsey Silva [1:36:46 - 1:36:58]: But I was like, the only thing that is saving me is the fact that now I get to really go crazy and dive into all the tea about this. This. All the tea. 

Xavier [1:36:58 - 1:36:59]: Yeah, there's a lot. 

Kelsey Silva [1:36:59 - 1:37:14]: Because even, like I said, I started watching the Broken Skull sessions that Stone Cold did with Brett. And the first question he asked is about the Montreal Screw job. And I was like, God damn it, I want to watch this episode, but I can't. I have to, like, wait. And now, first thing tomorrow, I'm going crazy. 

Xavier [1:37:14 - 1:37:40]: No, I love that. Yeah. No, there's tons. There's the Dark side of the Ring episodes. There's, like, literal separate. There's whole documentaries on Peacock specifically about that. Yeah, it's. Yeah. There's good stuff we can watch when they bury the hatchet on Live on Raw. That's an interesting one. It's. Yeah. Years and years and years and years and years later. 

Kelsey Silva [1:37:41 - 1:38:11]: So, yeah, I'm just like, I don't know. I would, like. I would love to know how you guys felt about it. Like, when it happened in real time, if you saw it when you were younger, if you're seeing it now while you're watching this. Like, I would to know how you guys felt, but it really, like, it really upsets me. It makes me not feel good. And I. I just. I don't know. I'm really sad that it's over and I'm gonna miss. I'm gonna miss having him around, like, wrestling and stuff. And now also, we know that, like, Owen kind of, like, is gonna go down a path and.

Kelsey Silva [1:38:12 - 1:38:17]: Everything that happens with Vince now, it is one of the final Infinity Stones for the attitude era.

I won't give away too much because I believe the following episode of Monday Night Raw is on Netflix. So we will watch that. Stay tuned. Next week, we're gonna do a After Dark about the Montreal Screwdriver specifically. And then after that, we'll watch the fallout of Survivor Series, but that really is when we get the Vince McMahon character. Mr. McMahon character. Yeah. And that is the birth of a whole new chapter for wwe. 

Kelsey Silva [1:38:58 - 1:39:05]: Yeah. And then I think the only. The last infinity. So we need is the. Is Rocky becoming the Rock, Right? 

Xavier [1:39:05 - 1:39:43]: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And then we're gonna start seeing, like, some. Some. Like some of the younger faces that start coming in. Your hardies, your edge, and Christians, your Dudley's. We're gonna see the advent of the hardcore division, will also start reintroducing women. Like a women's title. There is. It happens eventually. Um, I don't. Don't get. Get too excited about the quality of any of that. 

Kelsey Silva [1:39:43 - 1:39:47]: Oh, I know. Because it's still gonna be bark like a dog.
