Ready to stop avoiding your money?
You might look financially successful on the outside, but inside you feel anxious about money, unsure of what’s “enough,” or exhausted from trying to get it right.
Even with wealth on paper, your nervous system can still feel scarcity. You’re not the only one, and you’re in the right place.
Hi, I’m Erin, Spiritual Wealth Coach, former Certified Financial Planner, and CFO.
I created this podcast to help you build true financial confidence, not just more financial knowledge.
For years, I chased numbers in the bank account, outsourced decisions to financial advisors, and still felt guilt, pressure, and never “enoughness.” I didn’t realize I was stuck in a scarcity mindset.
What changed everything was realizing that money isn’t just about strategy, it’s about relationship. To feel safe and empowered with money, I needed nervous system regulation, emotional safety, and an abundance mindset.
On this podcast, we go beyond budgeting and financial planning.
We talk about money mindset, wealth embodiment, nervous system safety, and creating money systems that feel good to use, so you can stop spiraling in shame, ground into your worth, and experience real financial freedom.
If you’re ready to trust yourself with money and create wealth on your terms, this podcast is for you.
I’m so glad you’re here.
Let’s dive in.

132 | Your Thoughts Are Your Most Powerful Currency—Are You Spending or Investing Them?
What if your thoughts are sabotaging your money mindset and financial freedom?
In this episode, we explore the concept of mental wealth and how our thoughts either drain our energy and creativity or lead to an abundance mindset. Just like unconscious spending leads to financial debt, mental habits such as overthinking, worry, and self-doubt can create emotional debt that limits your capacity to grow and invest.
You will learn how to shift from a scarcity mindset to one of abundance, recognizing when you are 'spending' thoughts from fear and how to invest in thoughts that foster trust and clarity toward your next-level self.
Key takeaways:
- Why rumination, comparison, and negative self-talk act like energetic withdrawals in your life.
- How your thinking directly impacts your financial growth and emotional wellbeing.
- What it truly means to 'invest' your thoughts for lasting abundance.
- Practical mindset shifts to help rewire scarcity into a sense of safety and expansion.

Welcome back to your Money, your Rules. Today I want to talk about something that we rarely think about when it comes to abundance. It's not your money, it's not time, it's not love, it's your thoughts. Our thinking is one of the most powerful currencies, I believe, that we have and, just like money, you can spend it in ways that deplete you, that have you doubting yourself, or you can invest it in ways that expand you. Okay, so let's talk about the energy of spending our thoughts.
Erin Gray:Think about what happens when we spend our money unconsciously. Maybe we impulse buy, or we might over consume, or we try to fix an internal lack feeling within ourselves by purchasing or doing something from an external place to try to fill that hole within us. Now imagine your thoughts are being spent in the same way. So think about if you are overthinking, ruminating on past mistakes and I don't like to use the word mistakes, but a lot of times we do use that word so, lessons learned if you've gotten to that place. But, like, think about if you are overthinking decisions that you have made in the past. Are you worrying about what could go wrong in the future? Are you comparing yourself to others? Are you mentally rehearsing how it's actually not going to work out, and I don't think a lot of us would say, yeah, I'm actually doing that, but that is what we are doing when we're worrying about it not working out. So when we doubt and we worry that our businesses won't work, or our podcast or our book or our workshops or whatever it is that you are spending time thinking won't work instead of knowing it will, we are rehearsing it not working out, and I look at these as mental expenses that really yield no expansive or productive return. They create emotional debt. When you think about the thought, when you think that something's not going to work out, I want you to always then ask the next question how do I feel in my body? So scarcity mindset isn't just about what's in your bank account or how you feel in your body. It's also about how you are mentally rehearsing lack and how often you are doing this.
Erin Gray:So what I think about investing and investing our thoughts is it's intentional, it's long-term, it compounds over time. I don't think it's always. I mean, I think it's sexy, but you know, in the beginning it may not feel sexy. It doesn't give you this immediate. You know, dopamine hit that our bodies are craving only because we haven't practiced it enough, but over time it will. But the return, I want you to think about what you are doing. When you start shifting the way that you think and you start investing your thinking instead of spending it, it feels expansive, it compounds over time. How you feel in your body, how you move through the world, is vastly different when you invest in the market, putting in that certain amount of money every single month. In the beginning it may not feel like that it's really doing much, but over time you can probably attest to this. One day you wake up and you have a million dollars in your account and it's because you were disciplined enough to stay with it on a consistent basis.
Erin Gray:So investing your thoughts are going to look like visualizing your next level self, with a deep sense of trust and feeling like what that feels like in your body and acting from that place, talking to yourself lovingly to reinforce your identity and being your biggest supporter, thinking through ideas and solutions from a place of possibility and fun. Like, what would I love? Like that's a question I ask myself all the time. What would I love? Reflecting on curi, you know, with curiosity instead of judgment, and intentionally talking to yourself and telling yourself how much love and appreciation that you have for yourself, how far you have come and for doing this work and for feeling joyful anticipation for where you're going.
Erin Gray:I think so often the way that our brains are wired, we look at something and we don't think about how far we've come. We think and we look and see how far we have to go, which, again, that doesn't feel very good in the body and I tell this to clients all the time. There is no right or wrong here. It's just what feels better in the body, what moves you to where you want to go. You know, thinking highly of yourself, knowing that you're going to have what you want, trusting the decisions that you have made, that feels good in the body when you think about like your auric field or you know, my one of my mentors calls it like your creator field. It's, it's all the same, but being that person that invests in their thoughts creates like you think about your auric field. It can become more expansive or wider because of your frequency. You're more magnetic. It allows your authentic self to come out and that is powerful and that attracts more of what you're actually wanting.
Erin Gray:So I'm going to talk about three shifts that can help you from spending your thoughts to investing them. First, notice the withdrawal like ask, ask yourself is this thought creating peace and power and presence and love? And if it's not, then take a breath and say something to the effect of like, I don't spend my thoughts this way anymore. Like, I also use the, the sentence like. Up until yesterday, I was a person who, or as of today, I do X, y, z, like, think about, if you were going to talk to your child or you were going to talk to your best friend, would some of the thoughts that you're thinking would they fly or would you be like, absolutely not. That's how we want to treat ourselves. So thinking thoughts like I am my biggest supporter. I speak kindly and lovingly to myself.
Erin Gray:Our thoughts, they create a physical sensation in our body. So when we are used to speaking thoughts that create doubt and worry and fear, our body is going to go through withdrawals because it is used to feeling those vibrations. So nothing has gone wrong here. We're just training our body to become addicted to a higher vibration emotion like love, joy and abundance, like what I have noticed in my body when I start to, let's say, if I, if I'm expanding more feeling of ease and joy it's not as as intense as it used to be, but those thoughts around money would come back in to kind of keep me back in line. So you have to notice what's happening, which means slowing down. You have to pay attention. What are the thoughts or the beliefs that you're having right now? That's creating this sensation in your body and then powerfully choosing what is a thought or a belief that you're going to have to feel differently. Okay, so choosing intentional investments. So this is you know I talk about this on previous podcasts Like I don't think we have to work hard for many.
Erin Gray:I don't believe that anymore. What I do think that we have to be very attentive with is our mind, and so this is a constant redirection. In the beginning, you know, I, for me personally, I was constantly redirecting because my habit was to focus on what isn't working, what could go wrong. Like worry was a natural. I would say it was a natural state for me. I thought that it was productive, I thought that I was planning for all of the contingencies, but what I was really doing it was just planning for what was going to happen. So think of it like weightlifting you get better the more that you do it and avoid language.
Erin Gray:I always like to pay attention to clients language and I have them pay attention as well. And you know, when you say things like it's hard or I struggle with, use more neutral language, like just use the words or the language. Like we're just more practice at speaking disempowered thoughts than we are at empowered thoughts, so it's not hard to change. You're not struggling with this. Like so often I hear people say, well, I'm really struggling with this, like scratch that from your vocabulary. I'm practicing, working on or I'm in the process of changing X, y, z, like really start to pay attention to your language and change what you are saying about yourself.
Erin Gray:And then the third thing I would do is create a daily thought practice. So what are the thoughts that you want to be on autopilot? I'll give you some of mine. Everything that I do works Like I am the magic. I am a gift to my clients and to humanity. I trust myself and my intuition. It is my best business tool that I have. I love myself unconditionally, and so it's not just about saying those things to you, it's to yourself. It's actually about saying them and then taking action.
Erin Gray:So when I was working on, I trust myself and my intuition. It's my best business tool. What did I do to implement it? I started listening to my intuition and I trusted it. And so when someone would tell me or an advisor would tell me something and I would say, no, I'm getting a no for that, you know they would come back and they would say, well, what about this?
Erin Gray:And I would check in with my intuition again and I would ask myself so it's like you have to, not just the affirmations, but it's also the anchoring in in your body. And you do that by taking action. This is what I think mental investing looked like it compounds beautifully over time. You know your thoughts are very creative, they are magnetic. They literally create a vibration and have a ripple effect. So start asking am I spending this thought out of fear or am I investing it in my future? You know you are worthy of having an amazing, vibrant, incredible life, and it starts with our thinking. So until next time, I encourage you to invest your thoughts wisely and I'll see you in the next episode.
