Your Money, Your Rules | Money Mindset, Money Management, Abundance Mindset, Budgeting, Spirituality
Ready to stop avoiding your money?
You might look financially successful on the outside, but inside you feel anxious about money, unsure of what’s “enough,” or exhausted from trying to get it right.
Even with wealth on paper, your nervous system can still feel scarcity. You’re not the only one, and you’re in the right place.
Hi, I’m Erin, Spiritual Wealth Coach, former Certified Financial Planner, and CFO.
I created this podcast to help you build true financial confidence, not just more financial knowledge.
For years, I chased numbers in the bank account, outsourced decisions to financial advisors, and still felt guilt, pressure, and never “enoughness.” I didn’t realize I was stuck in a scarcity mindset.
What changed everything was realizing that money isn’t just about strategy, it’s about relationship. To feel safe and empowered with money, I needed nervous system regulation, emotional safety, and an abundance mindset.
On this podcast, we go beyond budgeting and financial planning.
We talk about money mindset, wealth embodiment, nervous system safety, and creating money systems that feel good to use, so you can stop spiraling in shame, ground into your worth, and experience real financial freedom.
If you’re ready to trust yourself with money and create wealth on your terms, this podcast is for you.
I’m so glad you’re here.
Let’s dive in.

139 | The Power of Language in Your Relationship with Money
Work with me: https://tidycal.com/eringray/45-min-call-with-erin
You can have the thriving business, the healthy bank account, and all the financial boxes checked and still feel like it’s never enough. That empty, restless feeling isn’t about money at all. It’s about the words we use to speak to ourselves and about ourselves.
Language carries energy. The way we talk about money can either keep us in fear or open us to trust, love, and sufficiency. In this episode, we’ll explore how small shifts in words can create big shifts in energy. Because true wealth isn’t just about what’s in your bank account, it's also how you feel in your body.
In this episode, we’ll explore:
- Why the words you use about money matter
- How to notice the subtle scarcity language you may not realize you’re repeating
- Gentle ways to move from fear-based words to empowering ones that feel true
- Why sufficiency is sometimes the bridge to genuine abundance
- How language can reconnect you to safety, trust, and possibility with money

You can have a thriving business and make a lot of money in your job, you can have plenty of investments, different sources of income, healthy bank balances and still feel like it's never enough. These are the types of clients that I actually support, and this was actually, and has been, my journey over the last I want to say all of my life, but really over the last probably six years, and so today what I want to do is discuss how the words that you use and how you speak about your money and basically your life everything in your life is actually reinforcing that scarcity, and how shifting your language can help you finally experience the safety and the freedom that you have been desiring. Finally experience the safety and the freedom that you have been desiring. I also wanted to ask you that, if you have been receiving value from this podcast, I would love it if you would leave a five-star review. It helps the show grow and get found by other people just like you who are working through their own money stories, their money beliefs, their money mindset, so that they can feel more abundant and financially free. To me, financial freedom is not a number, because I had the number and I did not feel financially free. So what I'm really wanting to inspire, guide, help each of you is to know that that freedom is an internal thing. Obviously, we want to have money in the 3d world, right, like, yeah, it's fun to have money, but it doesn't matter if you have money and you don't feel free. So, really helping you create that sense of internal freedom first, and then allowing it to bubble up and out of you, um, so that you can have it in the 3d world. You know, my mission really is to change the way that we think about money and so that you can have it in the 3D world. My mission really is to change the way that we think about money and so that we can truly enjoy our life and that the more that the show grows, then the more that I'm able to do that. So I would love it if you would just pause the show right now, leave a review and then come back and listen to today's episode.
Erin Gray:Okay, so let's talk about, first and foremost, the energetic, like the power, the energy behind our words. You know language is so important. When I was little, my mom used to tell me it's not what you're saying, erin, it's the. I think she would even say the energy behind what you say, which we weren't. I wouldn't consider us a very conscious family because she would always use words like you're so harsh. But I know now that my energy that I was coming from was one of very much frustration and anger, and so it would come off. So I can still say, and I can be very blunt and very straightforward, but it can come from an energy of love now versus an energy of frustration and anger.
Erin Gray:So so often we use language to describe our current circumstances. You know, we've been taught that. You know what's happening outside of us, like in the 3D, the observed world, right, the world that you see with your five senses, and then we take that information and then we make stories from it or we have thoughts about it, and we don't even realize that we are creating more of the same when we do this. You know our words. They carry a vibration. I love to use the word that I'm so potent because I believe I am.
Erin Gray:I know I talk a lot on the podcast, but if you meet me in person I'm kind of the one that kind of hangs back. I don't really talk a lot. I like more one-on-one conversations and if I'm in a crowd or a group of people, I'm definitely the one that's observing everybody, kind of listening to what everyone's saying, and then only really talking when someone asks me a question or asks for feedback, because I really truly feel like I don't need to talk all the time. Like my words are very potent. Things that I say activate people and make them think differently, and so I want you to think the same about your words as well. Like our words are very potent. They carry a vibration. It's very important the words that we speak. Like let's choose our words very carefully.
Erin Gray:I go to energy work probably once every two to three weeks. Sometimes we'll do just straight up energy work. Sometimes we'll do energy work and a massage. Sometimes it's just a massage. But one of the things that she told me one time she was like Erin, you were very specific with your words. Like there will be times or like that she's asking me a question and it will take me a minute or two to respond because I want to choose the word, not from a like I'm messing up and choosing the wrong word, but I I'm very intentional with my words now, and this is something that I want you to pay attention to and to start doing so, because our words carry a vibration, right, and that vibration it operates on a frequency.
Erin Gray:If you think about vibration, vibration is just movement of particles, right, but the frequency is how fast or how slow those particles move. And so when you think about, you know, using words, are you moving? Like I said earlier, are you moving from the energy of love, of abundance, of joy, of empowerment, you know? Are you stating empowering language when you talk about yourself, or are you operating from more of a low and slow frequency, from the energy of lack or guilt or shame, or from disempowerment? The law of vibration is all about attracting what we are like, our state of being, how we vibrate on a constant basis, not what we want. So I know manifestation has been like pretty big recently, over the last several years, and people think that you can just think positive thoughts and it will come to you. But if your state of being, if you vibrate on a lower frequency, that is the, that is the frequency that you are going to attract.
Erin Gray:So there is this really neat documentary with and I might be mispronouncing his name Masaru Emoto, who was a Japanese scientist, and he was in the documentary called what the Bleep Do I Know? And basically he shows how language has an effect on water and since we are made up of what 70% water, he just goes in and he shows how our language affects water, how music affects water. It's, it's a very insightful and thought provoking makes you really start to think um documentary. So I'll we'll put in the show notes just the the clip of where he talks about our thoughts and water, if you want to look at that, and I think it's like around minute three, 28, three, 30, something like that, where he goes into um thoughts and water. So I'll put that clip in the show notes If you're just curious and you're just learning how vibration actually affects um ourselves, molecular, our biology.
Erin Gray:So so we always have to start with awareness, right? What are we speaking into existence without even knowing it? What phrases are we saying? Because we are taking feedback from our 3D world, right, our observed world, with our five senses, and we are having a thought or a story or a belief about it, versus being intentional with our thoughts, with our mind, and choosing from our imagination what I call the 5D and creating from our imagination what I call the 5D and creating from there. So I want to talk about what I consider like low vibration language and high vibration language, because we unconsciously repeat disempowering phrases and that creates a feeling in the body. So those feelings are going to emit a vibration and when we are repetitive with this right, it creates our state of being.
Erin Gray:Like one of the things that I'm trying to teach my kid is like why there are songs. I mean, every song has a course, right. Why are there courses multiple times in the song? It's for it to get into the subconscious mind. Now, some songs are high vibrational, some are low vibrational, right, and so it's like you want to be very, very mindful of what you are putting into your brain. My, my kid totally thinks that, you know, I think she gets it, but she likes to razz me and say that I'm crazy, but she's on board with it.
Erin Gray:So what I'm going to do is I'm going to give you some phrases that I've heard some of my clients use, or phrases that I have said in the past, and then I'm going to give you a phrase after that that is more of a higher vibration, more empowering. You know, that can emit those feelings of empowerment, so that you can see the difference, and I want to say that these are not like this is the only phrase, right, like I always am encouraging clients to tap back into their body what feels true to them, like. Sometimes I'll offer up a phrase to a client. I'm like how do you feel? How does that feel? And they'll say that doesn't feel true in the body. I'm like, okay, then we have to keep working until there is a phrase or there is words that you can believe right now. So some. So I'm just going to riff on this and then, um, give the the alternate option and then play with what feels good to you and take what resonates, leave the rest.
Erin Gray:So one of the thoughts, beliefs that I used to have was that we don't have enough saved, which is very much so lack and scarcity driven, and what I changed it to was I am so proud of myself for the creating the amount of money that we do have, and more is on its way. Another one is I'm struggling with my money mindset and it feels it might feel true in the body. Right, like, yeah, but I am, I'm, but you have to look at everything that is in your current 3D world right now, what you are looking at using your five senses. That is all the past, meaning that your thoughts, your beliefs, your actions that you took yesterday, a month ago, six months ago, whatever it is, that is what created today, right now. So if we want something different, we have to think differently, we have to be someone different now. So if we want something different, we have to think differently, we have to be someone different. We have to take different action. We have to feel differently.
Erin Gray:So one of the ones, like I said, I'm struggling with my money mindset. You could choose to say I'm working through my money mindset. Or you could say something like I'm just changing my money mindset. I'm not great with money. Flip that to say something like I'm learning how to be with my money. I should have more by now. That was me too. Um, you can just even like I had to get neutral with some of this language. So if going to abundance like I'm so abundant was not what my body believed, so I had to get to sufficiency, so it was too far of a nervous system jump for me. So what I had to do was, um, instead of saying I should have more money by now, like I have the amount of money that I need right now, today. That was for me. That was sufficiency. Um, uh, also to like easy. We have a lot of thoughts around easy, or we have to work hard for money or just life in general as a struggle. So it's not going to be easy to do X, y, z. You could say something like I'm getting more comfortable with my life being one of ease instead of hustle and struggle, and then I'll give you a couple more and then you can play with them.
Erin Gray:So I keep making these mistakes and and I don't even like to use the word mistakes, I like to use the word choices and then I I am learning from my choices. So you could say I have made these choices and I have learned so much. It has taught me so much versus mistakes, because mistakes you've got to check in with you. But like, what does that feel like in the body? Does that feel contracting? And that's where you know if it's lower vibration or not. Right, like, does that feel contracting to you or does that feel expansive? So one more you could say uh, instead of saying like I feel guilty that I'm spending this much on whatever it is that you're buying, you could say I have decided to spend on this, because I am teaching my body that I am worthy of having what I want.
Erin Gray:So I always want to celebrate you, celebrate how far you come, celebrate the awarenesses that you are having, like just celebrate all of this, like you noticing and you being aware of your language. That is where change actually happens, like we cannot change what we are not aware of. So let's talk about actually now that you're aware of the language that you use, and being so mindful, like a watchdog, is what I want to think about. Right, like we've got to be so aware, not to the point where you're like driving yourself crazy and you're like constantly checking your language, right, but like just being more aware of the language that you use, slowing down, paying attention before. And what will happen, depending on your level of awareness? It will happen at first, after the fact, like you'll say something and then you'll be like oh, I see what I just said there. And then it'll happen like in the middle, right, like before, um, as you're describing something you might, you might catch yourself, and then what will happen is your awareness will go to before, right, so before I, like in my brain, I might hear the thought, but before I speak it, I will notice what, what um came through, and then I will choose more empowering language, so speaking your reality into existence.
Erin Gray:I love Neville Goddard. I don't know why. I mean I think it's probably just because of my level of awareness at the time back then. But it hasn't been until most more recently that I've really gotten into Neville Goddard of awareness. It's a short read, it's very potent and it's one that you want to read and reread several times.
Erin Gray:But in the book, neville says that everything has already been created, everything that ever was and ever will be. It is done. You know, I'm not a religious person. I don't have, didn't really come from a religious background, um, but that is what the Bible says too. Right Like. So if that is true let's just assume that's true Then all we have to do is what he calls manifest it, which means bring it from our imagination into the 3D observed world. And we do that by our feelings, our state of being and our identity, which is ultimately our state of vibration, so who we believe ourselves to be, the actions that we take. That is going to create what we want or what we don't want, and our language comes from our identity.
Erin Gray:So if you call yourself or you speak about yourself like bad with money, that is coming from someone who has the identity that isn't good with money, like there's ultimately a belief there that I'm not good with money and maybe that's not the belief, but there's some thread along that line of not good with money. So I want to encourage you to really take some time to journal, to go inward and think about who are you Like, who am I? What do you believe to be true about yourself? And I think in the beginning, at first, you really just need to rattle off everything that is unfiltered. And I think in the beginning, at first, you really just need to rattle off everything that is unfiltered, just let it go and notice what your, what your subconscious, actually gives you. So ask yourself, like is this actually empowering Once you get it on paper? Is this empowering? Does this actually help me achieve my goals and where I'm going? Or is this a disempowering story or belief that I'm carrying? And if that is true, then what do you actually want to be thinking? So, when you are constantly repeating that you're bad with money, your subconscious, like I said, is going to look for evidence to prove that it's true, I talked about this, the, the RAS, which is reticular activating system. I also talked about confirmation bias in a previous episode. So you can go back to episode 137 and you can listen to that and the whole explanation of that. I kind of went in depth there.
Erin Gray:But we've been taught to believe that money brings freedom. Right, we think money equals X, y, z. Money brings freedom, money brings peace, money brings calm. Well, we know that that's not true, because either you feel that way or, um, you can, you know someone that experiences that. So it wasn't until I shifted my identity, until I changed my language, until I saw the power of my words, my thoughts, my emotions and what it actually creates in my life for me to start shifting that right. Like I was on autopilot. I think a lot of us are right. Like we I just was texting a friend We've been conditioned to live in these certain paradigms and we don't have to right, like when we wake up, when we become more aware. We just can start shifting this. So celebrate that you're here, celebrate that you want different, celebrate that you're aware that you have had patterns and how you talk to yourself and that you're willing to shift it.
Erin Gray:I just want to say I'm just so proud of you If you're here, if you're listening. You are making steps. You are taking steps to change your life, to change your relationship with money, and I just want to just say how proud I am of you because this is courageous work. So if this is something that you want more support, individualized support with, I would love to help you. You deserve to feel peace with your money. You deserve to feel abundant with your money. You deserve all that life is offering you. So all you have to do if you want to connect and see if we're a good fit is you just schedule a call by clicking the link in the show notes. It's that simple. I'm rooting for you. You deserve only the best, and if you need someone to hold the vision because I know I did someone to hold that vision for you until you've embodied it, I'm here for you. So until next time.
