Ready to stop avoiding your money?
You might look financially successful on the outside, but inside you feel anxious about money, unsure of what’s “enough,” or exhausted from trying to get it right.
Even with wealth on paper, your nervous system can still feel scarcity. You’re not the only one, and you’re in the right place.
Hi, I’m Erin, Spiritual Wealth Coach, former Certified Financial Planner, and CFO.
I created this podcast to help you build true financial confidence, not just more financial knowledge.
For years, I chased numbers in the bank account, outsourced decisions to financial advisors, and still felt guilt, pressure, and never “enoughness.” I didn’t realize I was stuck in a scarcity mindset.
What changed everything was realizing that money isn’t just about strategy, it’s about relationship. To feel safe and empowered with money, I needed nervous system regulation, emotional safety, and an abundance mindset.
On this podcast, we go beyond budgeting and financial planning.
We talk about money mindset, wealth embodiment, nervous system safety, and creating money systems that feel good to use, so you can stop spiraling in shame, ground into your worth, and experience real financial freedom.
If you’re ready to trust yourself with money and create wealth on your terms, this podcast is for you.
I’m so glad you’re here.
Let’s dive in.

142 | Beyond Money Mindset: Releasing Money Wounds Through the Body
Work with me: (https://tidycal.com/eringray/45-min-call-with-erin)
Have you ever noticed that no matter how much money mindset work you do, things don't feel like they're truly shifting? That’s because financial blocks aren’t always in your mind, they can also be stored in your body.
In this episode, I dive into Dr. Bradley Nelson’s book The Emotion Code and explore how unprocessed emotions, especially from childhood, can remain in the body. These stored energies can quietly shape your relationship with money, showing up as overspending, avoidance, or never feeling financially secure no matter what’s in your bank account.
What you’ll learn in this episode:
- How the body stores emotions from past experiences when we couldn’t safely express them
- Why trauma isn’t the event itself but the disconnection from ourselves afterward
- How stored emotions create repeating financial patterns
- Why traditional mindset work sometimes isn’t enough to shift your money story
- Simple ways The Emotion Code can release stored emotions without cognitive processing
- How operating in survival mode impacts high achievers
- Why this work creates generational healing, transforming patterns for ancestors and descendants

From my soul to yours,

Today we're going to be diving into the emotion code by Dr Bradley Nelson, and this is a book that reveals how our body stores emotions.
Erin Gray:He uses the language trapped emotions, but I just like to use the language. Stored emotion doesn't feel as heavy in the body, and in this book he talks about how this energy, because it has been stored in our bodies, how it can ultimately affect a lot of areas, if not every area, including money, in our life. Quotes like money mindset right, you've been doing the rewiring of your thoughts, but you don't yet feel like that connection in your body. This might be because the energy that you have within hasn't yet been released, and so I just wanted to talk about this book today, because this is something that I do discuss with my clients and it has been extremely helpful for me, and I think that you know when I say this work like any type of self-development work, right, but like we have to to take all parts of us into consideration, right, like we have to the body, the mind and the spirit, right. So you do have to start changing the way that you think about money and the way you think about your life and what you feel like you're capable of, like you do have to change your self-concept and your belief about yourself. And also there's the body work, the energy work that I've talked about before and then I'm going to talk about on this episode, where we do have to to care for the body. Like there, there is energy there that a lot of us probably still have from our childhood because we weren't able to express it, um, when we were younger. And then we also have to. I believe we, you know, like there is something higher than us, like the spirit side, and so are we connected to God spirit source, are we believing in something higher? So you have to, you don't have to, but you, I think, it's important to take into consideration, like money, mindset Isn't just our thoughts, it is all three parts right Our body, our mind and our spirit. So I want to offer you that, if you are ready to explore your own money patterns more deeply and I would encourage you as we, what I do with my clients is very slowly and you want to give yourself the space to dive into this sacred work, I would love to support you and see if we are a good fit for each other. You can schedule a call by just clicking the link in the show notes. Okay, so let's talk about what the book is and how I feel, like that it's helped me and we'll go from there.
Erin Gray:So the idea behind the emotion code book is that what Dr Nelson talks about is that the body does store he calls it, like I said, trapped emotions, right From significant past experiences where we weren't able to express it and, um, you know. So what we did instead, because we didn't feel safe to cry or to let that anger out or to express the frustration that we were feeling or whatever emotion it was at the time grief, whatever. Then what we did was we repressed it or we suppressed it, and we did this from a place of probably not very conscious. We did this from a place of to keep the connection with our loved ones Dr Gabor Mate talks about. This is like trauma isn't the actual event that happened. Trauma is the disconnection from ourselves after the event. Right, it's what we had to do to stay safe and to feel close to our caregivers. So, because we didn't feel safe, because we didn't feel like it was okay to express our emotions, we stuck them down and the energy like I've said on numerous podcasts, energy is never created or destroyed, so it's got to go somewhere, and so a lot of times it goes into some organ in our body and that's where it stays until we're ready to release it, and so these trapped emotions can continue to cause these repeating patterns that we have. You know, if you think about overspending or avoiding your money or never feeling safe like I've talked about this on numerous times, like it's actually in my podcast show description or show notes description or whatever it is you know, like I have said that there was never an amount of money that I had that I felt safe with and that might show up amount of assets that you have. It could be a dollar income that you're making every month, like it's just going to show up in different ways for you. But what that really like? I always look at what is actually happening and then what is the root cause underneath that.
Erin Gray:So he talks about the science behind the emotional baggage. He talks about how to use emotion code and like the technique that he created to help you release the emotions that may be sitting in certain organs and he really dives in and kind of shows you like the thought process behind muscle testing and energy healing. I don't know about you, but in the beginning, when I was more so on I don't know which brain it is right or left, but very like logical and obviously analytical, financial, all that kind of stuff I wanted to know the science behind it. And so he does go into that and he does talk about how that actually works. For some of you, you might just be able to just believe and trust. I'm definitely on that side now, but in the beginning I really needed some of this, um, fact-based or science backed information in order to help me understand it.
Erin Gray:And so he talks about you know, the symptoms that you might be experiencing. He talks about like where these types of emotions are typically stored in the body or in the organ. And I think that it that this is really important because what I have noticed in myself and with clients, because so many of us I mean all of my clients are this way. We're so high, functioning right, we have accomplished so much in our life and yet we have done this from a survival state. We probably wouldn't say that that's how we have gotten to where we are, because it's just so normal for us and we're so used to feeling this way, but it's almost like once you move out of that survival state, that fight, flight, freeze, fawn response, and you get into a more creation or relaxed or what you know the parasympathetic is rest and digest like a more relaxed state. Then you have the hindsight and the clarity to see like, oh gosh, I was operating from such a fight, flight, freeze response, but we don't know it while we're in it, because it's just our normal, it's just so familiar to us. So I want to first and foremost say give yourself all the love and compassion because I truly think that a lot of you are around my age, you know forties, fifties, um, where we have really had to push and and get to where we are from such a stress response, and that there is another way to live life and to generate money and to enjoy your money.
Erin Gray:And so this book, I think, is you know, I always encourage everyone to do their own research get the book, read the book, see what feels good to you, take what resonates, leave the rest Like. Don't take my recommendation as like the end. All be all like. Do your own research. But for me, what I found is it was a way that you know I could bypass the mind and just get into the body and just do some releasing that didn't have to go through the mind. So even if you don't do the full technique, you know the awareness alone that your nervous system is carrying these old imprints can bring, I think, can give you, allow you to have so much compassion and clarity and love for yourself. You know like it's not like we're intentionally trying to do this, we're not trying to make our money. Mindset shifts hard on ourselves, right.
Erin Gray:There is some underlying things sometimes with some of us that we actually need to take care of, and when I say that I mean like to love on and to give some support in other ways besides. You know the talk, therapy and the coaching and things of that sort. So I would recommend, if it resonates with you, see how it feels in your body, but going and seeing a practitioner first to kind of teach you the technique, to show you how it works and see how that feels and then start to use it on yourself. And he talks Dr Nelson talks about this in the book that you can totally do this by yourself. So if it resonates, read the book, find out what feels good for you and then let your body lead versus thinking you have to do it a certain way.
Erin Gray:I really, truly believe like we're not broken, we are perfectly whole and worthy and amazing and abundant, and just these incredible beings with our souls walking on this earth, and that there's nothing wrong with you, why you might continue Like. I remember it was back in 2021 and I remember crying in the bed and telling my husband like I just don't understand why I keep having this money thing come up, and that was when I really started to get into the body, because the money mindset just the sheer, like watching my thoughts, thinking new thoughts wasn't cutting it. And so I just want each of you to know that, like there, I know the self-development world really talks about our mindset and and I do believe that that there is a place for that and there is also a place for our body and our spirit, and are we taking care of all three of those? And so you know there might be stored experiences that you have that your body is still carrying right, and when you release them, you free up that energy and you get to experience life in a much calmer, freer state. If you are curious how this plays out with your money story. I would love to support you.
Erin Gray:You know, inside my private coaching, we untangle the practical side of money, but we also look at all of that emotional stuff, right. That keeps coming up. You know, we're not just talking about money, even though a lot of my clients come to me for money. There's so much other stuff, right. It's all intertwined. The skill sets that you are learning aren't just applicable to money. It's to how you parent, how you are with your spouse, how you are as a child to your parents, and so learning how to unconditionally love yourself and to have more compassion and self-love for you and all of humanity, and to reparent yourself, you know, so that you can show up for all of you today and in the future, and also for your children.
Erin Gray:You know I say that a lot of times that this work is generational work that we're doing, and it works both ways. It goes down when we make these changes and it goes up the line too, and so you get to rewrite your story with your children, you know, and your grandchildren. And if this is something that is calling in your heart and you want to explore it a little bit deeper, I would love to support you. So all you have to do is just schedule the link in the show notes and we can see if we are a good fit for each other. Okay, for each of you. Always, I am here for you, I am rooting for you. I truly believe that money is a divine idea and it is meant to be used as a tool to empower others and to enjoy your life and to live a life of fun and freedom. I want to say it should be an expectation for all of us, right, like we all get to have that kind of life. So I'll see you in the next episode.
