So let's get back to our journey. So a wonderful guest today, Michelle Ward. Now, degree in nutrition, master's of science in coaching and applied nutrition. She started her coaching career in 2010. Now she specializes in really working with, well, working with all, but specializing in helping women over 45 rediscover their true self with this. So let's give us nice ready-set Reiki. Welcome to Michelle Ward. Welcome. Thank you so much. I'm so excited to be here. Wonderful. So let's begin the journey. I only told our listeners a little bit about you, but there is so much more. So tell us a little bit about yourself.
SPEAKER_00:Well, so again, my name is Michelle Ward, and I'm a um I'm a self-sabotage coach. Um, and I work with the Emotion Code and Heart Wall Release, um, which I guess we'll we'll talk about that in a little bit. But I've been in the wellness and mindset industry for over two decades. Um, and my journey really began um with my own, you know, a lot of our journeys begin with our own issues, right? I was having some problems with fertility, and so I changed my diet and started juicing and, you know, miraculously uh got pregnant a few months later. And I feel like that was, you know, that that was the catalyst and the springboard for learning more about nutrition. Um so, but it really evolved over time to look at the whole body system, right? Um, not just um lifestyle and nutrition, but really mindset and um addressing those um subconscious beliefs that we have that drive our behaviors, create our habits, um, and and define who we are, but it's really not the right definition, right? So um after I don't know, years and years of personal healing and um and um helping others, I decided to get certified with the emotion code um and began using energy work to help clients release emotional blocks. So um, and it's been amazing to watch. Sometimes I surprise myself, and you probably have the same experience. You're like doing this work and people feel better, and then they release these things and they're like, oh my gosh, I'm a new person. And you're like, really? Oh yeah, really, this works. So yeah.
SPEAKER_01:It's amazing. You have to, this is a modality that you actually have to experience, right? Describing it, words do not do it justice. It's something you just have to go through and be a part of to really have that individual experience. So here we're on this journey for energy work. So when did energy work come to into your life? Did you find it or did it find you?
SPEAKER_00:Well, like all things, that thing that that, you know, what is that um saying uh when the when the um student is ready, the master appears, right? And so I would get little breadcrumbs of um, you know, of things of energy work. I mean, I look back at all these books that I've bought over the last 20 years, but um to kind of give you a little bit more context and background, I was um very involved in the church and religion. And this kind of stuff, woo-woo stuff, was not um looked upon favorably. It was looked on as demonic and uh not of the Lord and all that. So I would kind of hide and read all this stuff and not really share it. And then, you know, I felt like I was doing something wrong. But I guess about eight years ago, I um disconnected myself from religion and really learned more about spirituality. And, you know, um, Jesus used um energy work and uh while he was on earth, and I'm like, I love Jesus. So um I was like, there's nothing wrong with this, and um, and so that's kind of how um I started. But I would say it's been about 15 years of just picking up little things and trying things my own, but now I'm full on like, let's go. I'm sharing this with the world. Right.
SPEAKER_01:Well, I I get it. I we were talking earlier and we're so similar, and here we are again with the similarities of this Bible base, you know, growing up in a religious home. And I remember being in the bookstore with my mom, and she would head over to the Christianity section and here, you know, this is like nine, 10 years old, even earlier. I would be just kind of sneaking and looking and not realizing it was the astrology and all these other books, and so fascinated with it. And uh, I read uh I saw a meme once that said, Remember the little cootie catchers that you make? Okay, like if you did that, you're grown up and you're a tarot and energy worker.
SPEAKER_00:That is so funny.
SPEAKER_01:Yes, we used to make those all the time. Right. Or like if you if you watched Matilda, the movie, you're not doing tarot. Right. So there were, as you said, breadcrumbs along the way to make sense, but you hit it, you know, and things that I saw or spoke about, my mother's like, stop it. That's not that's not of God, even though I I, you know, love God and pray to Jesus and all that thing as well. It's like, why can't this be both? I don't understand. You know, it just didn't make any sense, but you were you were hushed about it. So this kind of goes into the next question of the misconceptions about energy work. So, what are you finding as you're navigating through this field? What are some misconceptions that you either heard or read about?
SPEAKER_00:Well, again, kind of going back to the woo-woo thing, um, but um, because there's this common misconception that this is like unscientific. Well, my gosh, then the uh the science is now backing up the energy work and the fields and the quantum fields and all that is just overwhelming. Maybe it's the algorithm that I'm um that I'm um attracting or whatever, but um, it's very much based in quantum physics and understanding that everything, including our emotions, um, is energy. And then when emotions become trapped, um they can distort the body's natural um rhythms, their flow of energy, um leads to discomfort, emotional patterns, or even physical symptoms. And so um another misconception is that energy um work requires belief to be effective, but really um it works regardless of belief, and um, because it's the body's innate um intelligence guiding the processes. So um it's not the conscious mind, it's the subconscious mind. Right, absolutely.
SPEAKER_01:So you have helped others, you're a coach, sabotage coach, and you know, you are basically a testament of transformational power of holistic health. So as you look back on this journey that you have gone through, what has been a biggest challenge that you have faced in your healing journey?
SPEAKER_00:Well, I think um a lot of type A personalities might deal with this, um, but just releasing control and letting letting this happen, you know, and um stop intellectualizing everything, um, my healing, my emotions, um, allowing me to allowing myself to feel my emotions. You may have experienced this in the, you know, Christian faith is um is that, you know, uh that you don't um, you know, you don't complain, you don't, you know what I'm saying? And um, and well, I just grew up in a home where um you don't show your emotions. Um, you know, I don't know how many times I was told, you know, stop crying while my dad is hitting me or yelling at me or, you know, things like that. So I learned very early not to show my emotions. But in so many, for so many years, I tried to think my way out of emotional pain. And that just doesn't work. Like you, you, you have to, you have to identify it, release it, and um in this energetic way. And so I was doing all the right things, right? Um, therapy, journaling, meditation, prayer, but I I still felt like I was missing something. So um I surrendered. And it wasn't until I surrendered to the deeper energetic and subconscious layers that um that the true transformation transformation actually began. Um, and so I let go of old identities. I am not, you know, I'm not Michelle at age seven. I'm not, you know, um, those are, you know, parts of me that I love now, and I'm not, you know, or my 14-year-old self that was always in trouble or whatever. That's not who I am. That's not what I how I identify anymore. So um the body's wisdom, you know, and when you would let go of those identities, um um over overrides the mind's logic. Um, so it was terrifying, yet it was eliberating. And um that that surrender became my bridge to peace and and happiness and joy. Um, and I'm just so much calmer now. Like it's I used to be like over the top, like and angry um for no reason. And so I now know what that was all rooted in. So right, right.
SPEAKER_01:And many think that it's this magical transformation, you know, with the wand, and you're like, ha, right? And you become Cinderella, but just even what you said, just calm. Yeah. Not reacting. It is the day-to-day things like when someone cuts you off in traffic that you're not going to react and yell, or that one text or one phone call or that one email doesn't set your whole day off where you're yelling at somebody. Right. And those are those subtle changes in calming the body, relaxing the body. So yeah, people need to see the whole big picture. Again, it goes back to they need to experience it versus, you know, hearing about it or reading about it.
SPEAKER_00:Well, what is it about setting personal boundaries as well and learning how to do that? Because I mean, don't you know, don't we all, you know, struggle with that? We feel like we're being discompassionate or unloving by setting boundaries, but we have to do that as a as a form of self-love and self-care before we can, you know, do that for anybody else.
SPEAKER_01:Sure. And then if you're an empath or a people pleaser, it's like, oh my goodness, right? On top of it, on top of it. So when it is time for you to get an energetic tune-up, what are some qualities that you look for in an energy worker or a Ricky practitioner?
SPEAKER_00:Um, you know, I used to be all about the credentials, but I'm not about credentials anymore. Um, it's more about an energetic alignment. You know, whenever you are aligned with somebody, right? Um, you can just feel it. And, you know, like you and I, I'm like, oh, I told like we had the 10 minutes we had to talk before this. I'm like, oh my gosh, you and I are like the same person. You know, it's so cool. I love that. I love, I love that that just being able to connect with somebody. And it doesn't mean that the people I don't energetically align with aren't great people and wonderful people, but um, you know, you you do have to be careful about who you share that energy with, you know. Um, the I think the most powerful practitioners are those who've walked through their their own shadows and continue doing the work. It's not a once and done thing. You just said that or kind of alluded to that. Um, somebody who stays curious, um, stays humble, and um, you know, lets the process unfold um naturally, not forcing anything. So right.
SPEAKER_01:When I was beginning my journey, I kind of framed uh studying like I was going to school. I was gonna put a four-year degree in. So I was just studying everything, getting a wall of certificates, and it finally got to the point, you know, that scene in Forrest Gump where he's running and he's like, I'm done, I'm gonna go home. Yeah. Well, it was like, what am I doing? I need to be out there doing this, right? And putting this skill in action. And so that's where I turned as well, where it's more of this energetic connection, like, I get you, I see you, I resonate with you. And that's, you know, more than, and yeah, you do want someone who's at least qualified who didn't, you know, study off of a YouTube video in 20 minutes, you know. You want to still do, you know, find the lineage, what did you study? Talk a little bit about it. That's why, like, um, when people do the little 15-minute discovery calls, because you and I, like within a few minutes, like boom, we got it. Yeah, we're on the same page here, beautiful, right? And so that's so important to connect with that and hear someone's story and get a sense of their energy.
SPEAKER_00:Yes, for sure.
SPEAKER_01:So, what advice would you give someone who's listening to this and they're inspired? They're like, Yes, I want to do this, I want to do all these things. So, what advice would you give to them just entering the spiritual work?
SPEAKER_00:Well, I think um, you know, we all have the ability to do energy work, right? Um, we all have that same power. I mean, you and I are not any better or um different than anybody else in this in this world. Um, but I I think, you know, actually meeting with somebody that maybe a few steps ahead of you and the and um in the path would be uh great. Um and also seeing how it would work on yourself and understanding, you know, there is um some a little bit of understanding that needs um to take place, but I think a lot of it is faith as well, faith that um in God uh or or the universe or what however you want to, you know, um position that. Um, but there is a higher power, and that higher power is not outside of us, it's actually within us. So um, you know, just just trusting yourself that you are all you need, right? And so, um, but sometimes it takes somebody pointing the way, you know.
SPEAKER_01:Right, right. Always think of Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz. The power is always within you all along. Yes, right?
SPEAKER_00:Yes, yes, love that. So, so what books do you recommend? My gosh, I have a litany of books that um you know that I've read over the years. Um, but a few like The Emotion Code, which is um from by Brad Dr. Bradley Nelson and explains how trapped emotions work and how to release them, and you can do it on yourself, or you can hire a practitioner like myself um to do some work with. Um uh The Untethered Soul Um is uh by Michael Singer. Um it's just a reminder of what it means to uh let go and live freely. Um let's see, Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself, um Dr. Joe Dispenza. Um I've got all sorts of like um um books um for women, um Women Who Run with the Wolves by Clarissa Um Pinkola Estas. Um that is an amazing um book. Um anything by Emmett, um, what Emmett Scott? Um Emmett Fox, sorry. Um anything by Emmett Fox. Uh just so many books, so many. Beautiful, beautiful.
SPEAKER_01:Well, thank you for sharing the library of the book.
SPEAKER_00:If you saw my desk, you'd be like, how does she uh function?
SPEAKER_01:Oh, I hear you. I hear you. Got stacks and stacks, yeah. And that's part of the journey, right? You and if you don't read books, you might listen to podcasts, you might look look at videos, but you get thirsty for that in the beginning when you start. You just can't get enough of it, you know. And then when you look back, it's like, whoa, like all of that's in here now and in here, right? Beautiful. So uh do you offer any services, classes, events, trainings? Let us know what you offer.
SPEAKER_00:So um I do um emotion code or the emotion code, and that's releasing trapped emotions. I mean, I can do one session, I can do I have a package of four sessions, but um, and then once we've kind of gone through that for a deeper dive into um lifestyle, nutrition, energy work, um, I do um like a three-month um session, um three-month package, which is more in-depth. Um, you know, I think that um therapy, like talk therapy is great to a point, but at some point you gotta um you gotta stop talking about it and start doing start releasing those things. So that's a more um in-depth, um, you know, in-depth look at where you are. Um we all have trapped emotions. Um and there's also this thing called a heart wall. And so I do a heart wall release. And basically what that is, is we create these um the heart wall on our own. Some emotions um can be inherited, some of them can be absorbed, shared, they can be just common emotions that we um, you know, had uh created ourselves. They could be prenatal, like happened in utero, and then they could be preconception that happened even before you were um conceived. And so I we find all those, um, but the heart wall really is mostly um the heart wall emotions are are ones that we created our ourselves. And like from age zero to seven, um, we are in this theta brainwave state, and so we're picking up all these cues from our environment. We really just don't know how to um how to frame it. And so we create stories um and then um or and then sometimes we get um we trap those, trap the emotions that that we have attached to that story, to that perception, to that um, you know, uh what that pastor said, what that teacher said, what that mom or dad said, or what our sister or friend said. And those get trapped over time. And some of them can form a a wall around the heart. It's like layers and layers and layers. Um, I mean, have you ever met anybody that it just seems like there was like, you know, a brick wall between the two of you? It's like y'all are standing close, but there was just some energetic something that could be a heart wall. Well, the heart wall um as it's formed can create um, you know, feelings of not being loved or not being lovable, um, uh feelings of disconnection from people, um, you know, no purpose, no meaning in life, things like that. I have seen amazing things happen um when I release the heart wall. And it's um it's one emotion at a time, and um each session, um the depending on what the subconscious feels safe to release, it can be five. emotions, but the next one it could be 10, and the next one it could be seven. And there's some time to process all that. That's a very long answer to your question, but um I think it you know um deserves a little bit of explanation because that's different from just the trapped emotions that can get caught um in different parts of the body causing back pain or migraines or um you know knee pain or stomach issues, things like that. So yeah.
SPEAKER_01:Absolutely because the body keeps score, right? That headache, that backache, right? I mean even um I had had an injury I teach yoga, but I was in a class and it was a new teacher and she gave a cue and I'm like well that was weird but the body went and I got a tear went in and it was my right hip and we were doing I was doing everything possible then someone mentioned well you know you just moved from Pennsylvania to Texas. Maybe and I was resisting and maybe it's because you don't want to move forward right and I was doing light language on it all the reiki right all of this healing on it and I was feeling no pain no discomfort to the point like I'm gonna go in the doctor and the oral surgeon I'm gonna get the uh orthopedic surgic uh and it'll be fine and um he took the echo he's like yeah this is a mess how are you even walking seriously but I didn't feel it yeah like it was just I got this right and it was this idea that you know leaving everything behind and I was resisting walking into my purpose right so it could be multiple things but there is an actual tear you know the x-ray shows in my throat a hit and everything but I wasn't feeling pain he's like how did you walk in here?
SPEAKER_00:How could you bend down and touch your toes you know like I guess the energy work you know interesting the process yeah yeah yeah and you know sometimes there are there is a time and a place for allopathic medicine and for you know surgery and things like that but it is uh amazing to see um how just some simple emotional releases or reiki whatever yeah fix the problem immediately yeah yeah so all of those things but yeah it was like oh yeah I feel great and I'm like yeah this is a mess in here I'm like okay so where can we find you how can we get in touch with you uh you offer things online in person so I'm I'm virtual um which is so nice so I guess the one good thing that came out of 2020 was this whole Zoom thing and meetings online um just because we can help so many more people and amazingly as you know you can do energy work virtually so and um I've had great um success with that um my website is um elan vital um dash coaching dot com and I didn't cover this earlier when I was telling about myself but Elon Vital means vital force and um it's actually a a French term coined by um a French um uh uh psych not psychologist um physiologist uh back in 1906 and he was really referring to cells um how they know what they are whenever they're you know born like a a cell knows what to do and what to turn itself into and it lives out that life, you know? Well we have that same innate vital force within us um but we forget who we are and we forget why we're here.
SPEAKER_01:So it's reigniting that vital force is what Elon gives you see and it's talked about because we look at the history Reiki and many pinpoint it to 1922 even though there was a book in 1919 about Reiki Rahihou, right? Uh-huh and so that points it even further back 1906 you said yes yeah so interesting yeah that and some people believe it's been here since the beginning of time as you said you know with Jesus as he disappears in the Bible many believe that he went off and he learned the the mystical arts yes I absolutely believe that in DIJ all those places yes beautiful beautiful well this ends the first part of our journey and I'm gonna guide you into the second part which are questions from listeners and Reiki students. So here we go number one how can a certified self-sabotage coach help me in my healing journey okay so um it's it's multifaceted isn't it really so like I um I when I had started off in coaching it was more it was more like talk therapy I'm not a talk I'm not a therapist but it was talking about different you know things that maybe are bothering you but really not addressing the core emotion that is causing you to overeat or causing you to um you know not move forward um things like so we can we identify those emotions those trapped emotions release them and then um over a period of time you find you're not sabotaging yourself anymore um by not exercising or whatever it is that you're struggling with and it is a process and some people depending on your life experiences depending on your age depending on your willingness to like go release control um you know might take um a few weeks it might take a few months but um we we walk through that together and um you know I I help you come up with not necessarily a plan but kind of a plan but that's based on um the emotions that are released and the work that you do outside of all that right and I like how you said it can take time because many people think again it's that magic wand right boo it can take weeks months years I mean I was on this journey for some time and I'm like man it's it's not working and I remember one day in the cafeteria um something was happening to a student and there was the calm like there it was and the Tracy five years ago would have acted so different I would have been like oh my gosh panicked everything but it was this calmness and I just thought wow this is working yeah it's finally working but it was a consistent practice that focus that I gotta I gotta get better I got it I I need to heal whatever's in me right and move forward with that yeah so well and a lot of people think that they're broken and they're too old to you know change and all that I had a 71 year old client who um had um you know she had just suffered for years with um just self-loathing and disappointment and um you know depression and all these different things and she said you know this is my last ditch effort I'm not um like I've gone to therapy for 25 years.
SPEAKER_00:I've tried all these different um modalities so over a period of like seven sessions with her I released over 70 emotions um and the lion's share of those 60 of those were the heart wall um and she's had a had a lot of really um difficult life experiences um but at the end of that those seven like when she first showed up the first two sessions she was just like totally closed off and um I could not get a smile out of her and you know she wouldn't like tell me anything and so we just you know I kind of went on but slowly it's like the ice started melting away and by the end of our seventh session she was a completely different person. Her countenance was completely different. She was smiling she was joking she was buying things for herself that like she was like I bought myself a wreath I never buy myself anything and you know just um she bought herself a mug that says um love you mean it and she goes I drink out of this every day and I say it to myself every time I drink out of it I was like it gives me chills to even think about that.
SPEAKER_01:But she thought she was too old to change right um you're never too old um but it just might take a little bit longer so beautiful beautiful I love that number two you are a certified emotional co-practitioner can you tell me a little bit about the emotional code and how it personally changed your life yeah so an emotion code practitioner um I'm just certified in um this modality Dr.
SPEAKER_00:Brad Nelson is the one who um who created um this this um this specific modality it's just like any other energy work really but he um is a chiropractor by practice and he was noticing that you know he'd adjust people and then they would come back with the same issue maybe next week or two two weeks but somehow he figured out that there was an emotional component to it and he you know he um created um the emotion code and so I I went through um several months of training um had several um different um c uh clients that I worked on um to you know to get my certification but the way it works in tandem with self-sabotage is because a lot you know all of our um daily habits and um the things that we don't want to to do you know you I don't know you think about that verse in the Bible says I do the things I don't want to do and the things I want to do I don't kind of thing well that's um those are subconscious belief systems that are um that we're not even aware of we have like um you know 60 000 thoughts per day and 93 to 97% of those thoughts are subconscious and 80% of those are negative so how can we expect to um you know reach goals and do the things that we want to do if we don't identify what is holding us back. And our subconscious holds on to these emotions because it thinks it's keeping us safe. Well it did keep us safe at one point but there becomes a period where safety isn't safe anymore. And so that's um so um to answer the question about the emotion code that's kind of what the emotion code is it identifies I I use muscle testing to identify um the um emotion that is trapped that can be released at that moment and it might be um and I a lot of times I'll get an age of when it happened um and then my client will be like oh yeah that was when my boyfriend of four years broke up with me I found out he'd been cheating on me or something like that. And it you know there it had this emotion attached to it of abandonment or unworthiness. So we released that and um and so it's just a series of of those types of things. That's just one example.
SPEAKER_01:All right beautiful thank you for sharing that number three now this will probably help that if you've ever been told you are your own worst enemy, right? All right so starting your wellness journey in 1999 and you specialize in working with women over 45, what advice would you give to someone who does self-sabotage?
SPEAKER_00:Again, I think it all goes back to um you know we are so critical of ourselves and if you can just if you can start with looking in the mirror and every morning and saying I love you and just say and it and look yourself in the eye and say I love you. I mean it you know and I am not broken that I am just programmed. And so um you and I I say women 45 and over just because we're kind of going through the changes and then you know you're told that like maybe you're a little crazy and you need, you know, you know all that stuff that goes on with hormones changes and and you feel like you're totally out of control. I just feel like this is the way to take control back um on an energetic level um a physical level and you know a mental health level. So right, right.
SPEAKER_01:Well I mean as you look through history right if you're a strong woman right you're crazy right if you're passionate right or hysterical right so you can't get a break.
SPEAKER_00:Well back in the day they used to lobotomize women um when they were absolutely or you were or you were considered a witch right when you when you were strong and oh my goodness we got to burn you or drown you or something.
SPEAKER_01:So yeah not been an easy path being a woman right no but it is a it is a glorious one. So it is it is like back our power ladies. Right. So that was our last question as we were talking is there something that you have forgotten or something you like to share with the listeners the floor is yours.
