Good morning and welcome to Thinking Out Loud with Pastor-D!
In this episode, we'll take a quick look at current events and ask a tough question about conflict and leadership before diving into a powerful conversation about the cross. We explore how Jesus could say, “Father forgive them for they know not what they do,” in the middle of extreme suffering—and how we might respond in that same situation. We talk about the thief on the cross and the risk of waiting too long to turn to God, why Jesus made sure His mother was cared for even while dying, and what He meant when He cried out, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”
We also unpack the humanity of Jesus in “I thirst,” what was truly finished when He said, “It is finished,” and how “into your hands I commit my spirit” models complete trust in God. We address the common question of why Jesus didn’t save Himself—and how the cross wasn’t a loss, but a victory.
Finally, we wrestle with the tension of the cross itself: an image of brutal suffering and disturbing violence, yet also one of forgiveness, grace, hope, and incredible power—and why God would choose such a moment to demonstrate His love for us.
