What do a new storage shed, the world’s wealthiest one percent and a midnight craving for Twinkies have in common? Apparently, quite a bit.
This week, we begin with a Vatican statement condemning antisemitism and Islamophobia and ask whether growing interfaith cooperation is simply an effort to oppose religious hatred—or whether it could point toward something much larger in biblical prophecy. Could Catholicism and Islam ever move toward some kind of religious alliance, and might the Catholic Church play a role in the events Christians associate with the end times?
We then turn to Jesus’ stories of The Rich Fool and The Friend at Midnight. Why did the wealthy farmer keep talking about “my crops, my barns and my grain?" When does responsible planning become selfish hoarding? Can someone give generously and still be spiritually greedy? And when God blesses us financially, how do we determine whether that money is intended for us—or entrusted to us for someone else?
Finally, we tackle prayer: Where did it begin? Does persistent prayer actually change God’s mind? If He already knows what we need, why must we keep asking? When should we continue knocking, and when should we accept that the answer may be no? We even ask how God handles two people praying earnestly for completely opposite outcomes.
