E323: Life-Changing Coaching for Relationships and Recovery
When life's challenges feel overwhelming, having the right guide can make all the difference. Meet Odie Anderson of Samaritan Coaching, whose mission of "changing the world, one life at a time" isn't just a catchphrase—it's the foundation of transformative work happening daily with his clients.
What sets Odie apart in the crowded coaching landscape is his rare combination of clinical counseling training and forward-focused coaching methodology. As he explains, this hybrid approach produces remarkable results: "Where in counseling, you could go for years and be no better at the end than at the beginning, in coaching, people take leaps and bounds in weeks and months." His specialties include helping distressed couples rebuild connection, supporting survivors of narcissistic abuse, facilitating spiritual formation, and creating personalized life plans.
Odie's journey from military service to becoming a coach wasn't accidental. After carefully selecting a Christian counseling program that allowed him to integrate his faith background with psychological principles, he launched directly into private practice. This foundation gives him an exceptional depth of understanding that many coaches lack. "Because I have experience working with real people, I'm not telling you something I think will work—I know it will work," he shares with quiet confidence born from seeing countless transformations.
Currently, Odie is developing an innovative relationship coaching app and seeking ten couples to help shape its development while improving their own relationships. He's also particularly passionate about supporting those recovering from narcissistic abuse—a mission stemming partly from his own experiences of betrayal and rebuilding. "The trials were not sent to break me, but to make me," he reflects, embodying the resilience he helps foster in clients.
Ready to prioritize your growth and healing? Connect with Odie at 772-888-1629, through his website's calendar links, or explore his "Life Reboot" and "Spirituality Unleashed" podcasts on Spotify for a glimpse of his candid, transformative approach before taking that first step toward change.
This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place where local businesses and neighbors come together. Here's your host, Benjamin John.
Speaker 2:Welcome back to the Good Neighbor Podcast once again. Hey, are you in search of a coach? What kind of coach? Well, I'm going to let the man explain it to you himself. Today, I have the pleasure of introducing Odie Anderson with Samaritan Coaching. How are you doing, Odie?
Speaker 3:I'm doing good, doing great. Good, good, so do you want me to go ahead and explain?
Speaker 2:What's that?
Speaker 3:Go ahead.
Speaker 2:Yeah, pleasure having you on on here and thanks for making the time. So I'm excited to have you on here to talk more about your business so that people can understand a little bit more about your company. So let's start at that place. Can you tell us a little bit more about Samaritan coaching?
Speaker 3:okay. So the model, so my business, is changing the world, one life at a time, and my specialties is dealing with the distressed couples, women's issues and men's issues, primarily narcissistic abuse recovery, spiritual formation, life plan of goals, premarital and relationship improvement. So, in a nutshell, that's what I do.
Speaker 2:Very nice, okay, that's uh quite a bit of different. Uh, there's a broad a variety there it's really relational in a way.
Speaker 3:Like in general, that's what I do. I would do relational stuff, but relational dealing with yourself and relational dealing with others. So if you're struggling with even you know, self-sabotage, getting out of your own way, programming a care for your childhood that has been destructive in your life, I mean all different kind of things. So it's really relational in nature.
Speaker 2:Yeah, very cool. Yeah, this sounds like it's very helpful too. Uh, how'd you get into this business?
Speaker 3:So I'm a military guy, um, and on my way out I knew I was going to be working eventually in education or counseling, wasn't really sure. I took some time. I actually went on a college tour and I had an idea of what school I wanted to go to, but I took a year. I took a good year to decide and I was actually working in education when I got involved with the counseling program and went into counseling and I'm glad I did. It was a Christian school. I learned a lot. It allowed me to use my Christian background and knowledge to be a better counselor. Actually it was amazing, one of the best experiences ever. So I got into the field, went to school, started private practice pretty much from the jump as soon as I got out of school, which taught me a lot. The rest is history, I guess.
Speaker 2:Very cool. Now that you've been in this industry, in the coaching industry, doing a wide variety of coaching, is there any myths or misconceptions that you've seen?
Speaker 3:So I think the biggest myth and I would say, being a trained counselor, that happens to be on both sides. They're a lot more similar than the folk. But the thing that I do like about coaching and what I miss about coaching is that it's not as good or effective as counseling, and I would say it's really the same. But, like what I said earlier, coaching is a more forward-focused approach, it's results-driven. So where in a counseling situation, you could go to counseling for years and years and years and I've seen people do it and really no better at the end than they were at the beginning. Where in coaching, people take leaps and bounds in weeks and months down the road. Like it's amazing the benefit that I've seen people have in their life in a coaching relationship, because it's more about boots on the ground, it's more about being in the game. So for me I think that's a big misconception that coaching is not as effective. I will tell you, too, that coaching is more for someone who is, I want to say, more of a more functional. So we're constantly dealing with somebody who's in a very distressed type of situation, like rehab, like you know, just off the street type of thing. Archie was really focused on people who are fairly stable. It's more effective with somebody who's fairly stable not completely stable, fairly stable because, again, the stress that the program is gonna put on them they got to be ready for. So that is one thing. That's a little bit different. Let me see what I got here. I have some stuff written down and, Um, that was really one of them.
Speaker 3:So I would say another thing is that people think all coaches are the same, and this is another problem too is that people think when they hear coach, they think everybody works the same and that's not true. It's just like me. Because of my clinical background, I can go as deep as somebody wants to go into the minutiae of psychology and all of that kind of stuff. I can go as deep as somebody wants to go. I don't usually go there because it's not necessary, but if somebody really wants to understand or is leading in a situation I can't and it's called clinical coaching. That's the term that's used when it's talking about somebody that has a clinical background. But they're also a coach and I would say with this kind of coaching the benefits are just amazing because you're not just getting some real thing that somebody learned in the book and because I have experience dealing and working with real people. I'm not telling people something that I think is going to work. I know it's going to work. So all coaches are not the same. That's all I can say.
Speaker 2:I like that. Well, I like that, and where your mindset is on that, and that all coaches are not the same. That's a good message. So, right now, who are your target customers and how are you attracting them?
Speaker 3:So there's a couple of things I'm trying to do right now. I actually have an app that I've developed. I actually have a communications course on that app. I actually have a communications course on that app. But what I want to do is I'm looking for 10 couples either pre-marital or just relationship people that need relationship help to put into a group and basically they're going to be a part of a let's say, they're going to be a part of helping me develop the app.
Speaker 3:So and this is actually something new so back in the days, people would sit down and think about what people would want and then they would build a course. But what they found is it's better to get people into a process, take them through the process and figure out what the course needs to have, and so I mean I can write a course. I can write a course in like 10 minutes, 10, 15 minutes. I can write a course. So I'm looking for about 10 companies that I can put into this course, to flesh it out, and then it's actually going to become an app. So that's one thing. I'm also looking for people who are struggling with narcissistic abuse, and preferably outside of it. At this point, they've come out of a narcissistic abuse type of situation, but the same idea Taking them through a process of processing what's happened so they can move on in their life. And that's where I'm at, because I'm actually coming out of a situation like that myself. So that's it, those two things. That's really what I'm focused on right now.
Speaker 2:All right, all right, I'm going to switch gears on you, odie. Can you describe a hardship or a life challenge that you've went through and that has made you stronger?
Speaker 3:So I'm going to go into details.
Speaker 2:We'll save that for a longer time, yeah yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 3:So I'm going to start with this scripture I wish you the best of health, even as your soul prospers. I wish you the best of health, even as your soul prospers. So I was betrayed by those closest to me. These were family members, close friends, acquaintances Basically, three groups of people have came up against me to destroy my name, like I have been through the river, and the crazy thing is I'm still here. I've known most of my life. I wasn't ordinary because I just looked at the world different. I saw things that other people didn't say or were not willing to acknowledge, and surviving these trials have taught me. Although I feel alone at times, I know that I am not. The trials were not sent to break me, but to make me. I'm a gift to those who I come in contact with. The problem is most people don't realize that until it's too late, and I've learned that I'm unstoppable. So keep it short and sweet.
Speaker 2:I like that Good message too. Well, hey, how can our listeners? Well, what's one thing they should remember about the company, and how can our listeners learn more about Samaritan coaching?
Speaker 3:So here's the thing and I think this is a problem with coaching and counseling in general it's almost like people have to be compelled to do what they know they need to do for themselves, and I think that's why ads have to be done the way that they're done, because it's almost trying to manipulate and influence them to make moves that they already need to make. I would tell you, I would tell anyone that hears this information that feels compelled, like they're thinking that man, this guy gets it. If you feel that way when you hear this information, reach out immediately. Listen, there is no requirement for you to do work with me right away, but getting on a 10 or 15-minute call to figure out your situation, to steal your mom a good fit, is worth it. It's a free call, right? If you're not in a good place, you don't have the resources or time, you don't have to do it right now. But what I'm saying is it's almost like you need to do good at giving yourself what you need.
Speaker 3:I think that's the biggest problem with people getting help is that they always put it off. They put themselves off instead of getting what they need. That's the biggest issue I have with it, because there's so many people out here that are willing to help you and walk alongside you, but you've got to avail yourself to it. Another thing is I'm always open and available, but I'm not stuck to my phone. People can call me at 772-888-1629, but leave a message. Leave a message, leave a brief little synopsis of the issue and I'll get get get back in touch with you. Another way to get in touch with me I have links, calendar links on my website and they're hooked to every different specialty on my site. If you click on there, it will take you to my calendar and you just put your information and I'll get in touch with you.
Speaker 1:So that's three different ways you can get in touch with me.
Speaker 2:Perfect. Well, that sounds great. Odie, I appreciate you being on the show and I appreciate you sharing a little bit about yourself and your company and how people can get ahold of you If they need to utilize your services. Wish you and Samaritan Coaching the best going forward, all right. Wish you and Samaritan coaching the best going forward, all right did you?
Speaker 3:did I lose you? No, I'm still here. So, um, I didn't say that. I also also do have a couple podcasts too. So, if people want to know what I really like, I have a Life Reboot podcast and a Spirituality Unleashed podcast on Spotify. That's something else that they can do. Just check me out. I'm pretty candid on that, pretty straight up, just talking on that.
Speaker 2:There you go. Very nice. Well, yeah again, odie, it's been good having you on this podcast and I appreciate you coming on here and sharing a little bit about yourself and the company, and we wish you and Samaritan Coaching the best going forward okay.
Speaker 3:Thank you, beth, appreciate it. Thank you for inviting me, and I'm glad we're able to do it. I had some technical issues when I first got here. That's why it took me a while to get on here, but I got it worked out.
Speaker 2:That's what matters. All right, take care.
