A Naturopathic Path To Self-Healing With Dr. Mark Armstrong

Garfield Bowen & Dr. Mark Armstrong

What if your body already holds the blueprint for healing, and your job is to remove friction and feed the system what it needs? We sit down with Dr. Mark Armstrong of the Ahikim Center in Roswell, Georgia, a naturopathy doctor who has guided clients since 1992 using herbs, homeopathics, movement, nutrition, and a strong metaphysical foundation. Rather than chasing the next pill or protocol, Mark invites us to trust the “inner healer” and build a plan that blends practical habits with a clear mindset.

We walk through common myths about natural care, especially the allure of quick fixes. Mark breaks down how true prevention works: consistent whole foods, simple exercise, restorative sleep, and targeted botanicals that match the person, not just the symptom. He explains why affirmations, guided imagery, and visualization are more than nice ideas—they reshape stress responses, improve adherence, and reinforce the belief that change is possible. The conversation also touches on the pull of screens, the value of time outdoors, and how grounding habits like walking under trees can calm kids and adults alike.

What stands out is the simplicity and access. Mark’s practice has grown by word of mouth, centered on results and relationships. If you’re curious where to begin, he suggests small, repeatable steps: hydrate before caffeine, take a post-meal walk, upgrade one meal, and write a single affirmation to anchor your goal. Those small wins compound, helping you avoid the “dark night of the soul” and move toward steadier health.

This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place where local businesses and neighbors come together. Here's your host, Gardenfield Bowen.

SPEAKER_02:

Welcome to the Good Neighbor Podcast. Are you looking for a natural pathic doctor? Well, one may be closer to me, you think. Today I have the pleasure of introducing your good neighbor, Dr. Mark Armstrong, with Ahikim Center. Dr. Armstrong, how are you doing today?

SPEAKER_01:

I'm great. How are you?

SPEAKER_02:

Listen, we're excited to learn all about you and your practice. Tell us about your business.

SPEAKER_01:

Well, I am a naturopathy doctor. I've been serving the Atlanta area since 1992. And I'm located in Roswell, Georgia. And naturopathy medicine is something that predates Western medicine. We don't really use any pharmaceutical drugs. We believe that the body can heal itself and that herbs and homeopathics and vitamins and exercise and affirmation and just spirituality can take care of the inner healer and support the inner healer inside of you. That's who's doing the healing.

SPEAKER_02:

I remember watching a documentary with um the um Dr. Kellogg years ago.

SPEAKER_01:

Yes.

SPEAKER_02:

Um, what are some of the myths and misconception of the industry?

SPEAKER_01:

Well, uh, some of the misconceptions is that you can take a drug and it's going to fix everything that's going on. And in naturopathy, we believe that the body can heal itself, that there's an innate healer. And most people really just want quick fixes. And naturopathy delivers that, but it's also a partnership. And the myth is that you can take a pill and heal yourself. And naturopathy, we know that your body can heal itself or relieve itself with the proper nutrition, diet, exercise, and quality of life, which is connected to your spirit.

SPEAKER_02:

Isn't there a point where you're getting so bad where you need something or you may die?

SPEAKER_01:

Well, there's there's points where you get to the I call it the uh you know, the night of the dark end night of the soul, and yeah, you feel like that, but you can do all things through the inner healer within you, and especially if you get the right information, the right information, and you start in a preventative way. The body can do amazing things, so you never get there to the dark night of the soul.

SPEAKER_02:

We know marketing is the heart of every business. Um, who are your target um clients and how do you attract them?

SPEAKER_01:

Well, most of our work is just word of mouth, and so we haven't really had a marketing campaign. And uh, Garfield Brown, when we heard about the Good Neighbors podcast, we thought that might be a great opportunity. We've never really advertised, and yet we've done extremely well.

SPEAKER_02:

Um, have you ever thought about doing your own podcast?

SPEAKER_01:

I would love to, as a matter of fact. I would love to.

SPEAKER_02:

Now, I I know you are busy being a doctor. You're not so busy with your practice. What do you like to do for fun?

SPEAKER_01:

Well, I have uh a nine-year-old niece, and sometimes she stays with us, and we ride bicycles, we get outdoors and wash cars and play in the garden, and and try to spend as much time outside and less time inside, and that makes me feel good.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, that that back in the days that's what it used to be, but now we have these computer games and social media is hard, and depending on where you live, um, you know, yeah, she has all that, but we minimize it by just trying to be in nature.

SPEAKER_01:

You see, the radiation, the 5G that comes off of that is it's enough to distort your your consciousness. And you know, she could be a little ad, but when she's grounding out in those big trees and walking barefoot, that takes a lot of that radiation off of her, and you can see the difference. She is still just like we used to be outdoors with our our family and our grandparents.

SPEAKER_02:

Football, basketball, volleyball, yeah, that's that those are important stuff. Those are the good old days, yeah. Yes, sir. Those are the good old days. Uh, this show is more of a peek-able, but for um those listeners, if you were to narrow down to one thing, what is the one thing they should remember about a heat came center?

SPEAKER_01:

Uh, the one thing that really stands out is that we are very metaphysical. We believe that you can heal your life. And affirmations are important, guided imagery, visualization is very important, and the right protocol is important.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, our listeners hearing you now today have one thing on their lips now, and that that's how. How can we get more information on that? I hear Kim Sensor.

SPEAKER_01:

Well, you can go to uh Hempkey, A-H-I-M-K-I.net. A-H-I-M-K-I.net. Or you can call us at 770-552-4242, 770-552-4242, and you can reach us.
