This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place where local businesses and neighbors come together. Here's your host, Mark Bratton.
Speaker 2:Welcome to Good Neighbors Podcast South of the River, episode number 102. And we have a fantastic neighbor to share some time with today, mary Snow from Color Street. How are you doing, mary?
Speaker 3:I'm doing great. Thank you so much for having me on, Mark. I appreciate it.
Speaker 2:Well, we are going to have some fun getting to know what is actually Color Street and your business and a little bit about you.
Speaker 3:So why don't we start right there? Tell us what Color Street is. Sounds wonderful. So Color Street, basically, is a nail polish company. We are 100% nail polish that is almost dry when you put it on. I know right, really Dry polish. Come on, yes. No, I am 100% serious. It goes on like a sticker, comes off with regular nail polish remover and it's revolutionary, honestly.
Speaker 2:Oh, that's my kind of nail polish. When my kids used to make me do that, whenever they did certain things in baseball, coaches all did some nail polish. We ended up doing all of it, so I'm liking it already I'm loving it, so tell us a little bit more.
Speaker 3:Well, it's dry. So it comes in strips that are already packaged, already cut, and you peel and stick, and it's as easy as it sounds, honestly.
Speaker 2:Really, I can't, I can't wait, I can't wait. So how did you choose to do that? Were you into nails before?
Speaker 3:this, or Well, that's a very good question. So, um, my pre one of my previous direct sales companies had closed, and so I went on to become part of a different company and one of the gals from the first company reached out to me and she's like Mary, you've got to see this. It hasn't even launched yet. It's going to be revolutionary. You're going to want to get in on this on the ground floor. And so she sent me a sample and we did a video consult and I'm like, seriously, this is it.
Speaker 3:That's all I love it, I was sold right away, and so we launched the company in June of 2017, and it's been a blessing ever since.
Speaker 2:Wow, 2017. That's four years.
Speaker 3:No, seven, seven years, yeah, fantastic I haven't heard it.
Speaker 2:This is good, this is good. So, with that, though, I'm sure there's misconceptions and people say it's not real, this and that. What are some of those things that you hear, that that you have to deal with or deal with, now that I'm on your side?
Speaker 3:So, yeah, I've had people say, oh, I can't do that, it doesn't stick on my nails, or oh, I can't use it because you fill in the blank. And really, truly, if, if you want to polish your nails, if you want something on your nails, you can use this product, and it's just a matter of you getting a set, buying a set and trying and it's it. It was easy at first. I mean, obviously it took a little bit of practice but, um.
Speaker 2:You know anyone can do it do you help them as well when they get started, or you have a little party and have some people over, or have a little party.
Speaker 3:Yes, yes, exactly so all of the above. I've met with gals for coffee, just one-on-one, and helped them put their polish on. I've done home parties and we've, you know, sat around the kitchen table doing our nails and chit-chatting and having a good time.
Speaker 2:I'm sure no wine.
Speaker 3:No, of course not, that's it.
Speaker 2:So, yeah, let's transition a little bit about that. It was seven years ago. Prior to that, what were you doing? What do you do for fun?
Speaker 3:Well, one of my hobbies is bowling. No way, yes, way, yes. I bowl at South Town on Sundays and my league goes to Vegas for a tournament every June, so that's one of my favorite hobbies.
Speaker 2:Well, I know why we're together then, because I grew up my wife and I bowled together in a league Fun my mom was a bowling coach Nice, we bowled over at Cedarlands in Bloomington. Oh yeah, nice, of course.
Speaker 3:I worked there, so I bowled every day, of course, definitely Great, great hobby. Yeah, wow, wow. So you? So, let's, let's transition back into your nails. How do you bowl with nails? Well, you know, that's a really good question. I have my real nails. I don't go and get the acrylics or whatever at the salon, so my nails are not super long, so the bowling ball works just fine. However, I do have a very good girlfriend that I met through Color Street, that I met through Color Street. She goes to the salon every two to three weeks. She has her acrylics redone and she matches her salon polish to her Color Street polish so that she can have her own creative mixed manicure.
Speaker 2:I love that.
Speaker 3:So you can use it on acrylics and the fake nails. And she's also a bowler, so it works for bowlers.
Speaker 2:I'm really excited to learn more. You've got me very, very much intrigued what I do. I love to meet people. I love to listen to stories. Yeah, this is really interesting to me, Mary. Very interesting, thank you, we share this and I would love to have a party or two. So after this we're going to get together and maybe we'll do a good neighbor's nail party somewhere.
Speaker 3:That would be so fun. I would love it. Emma would sponsor it for sure. Oh, I would love to go to the boathouse.
Speaker 2:There we go. So here's a little off the cuff question that we always like to find the inspiration. Off the cuff question that we always like to find the inspiration. So is there any hardships or life challenges that moved you into making you the person you are today, but full of energy and smile?
Speaker 3:Well, you know, yes, actually, my ex-husband and I separated back in 2008, and my life sort of went into a tailspin and my daughter and I lived with my parents for a little while, and I feel that having that environment for both of us was very, very helpful in both. You know, helping me pick up the pieces and, you know, be a better mom, and also, you know, provide my daughter with the excuse me the extra support that she needed going through this as well, and so I would say that that would probably be the challenging thing that I've gone through. That that's really helped me be where I am today, sweet.
Speaker 2:Sweet. And then obviously, the. I can imagine the colors and beauty. I've talked to people that do makeup and stuff and that when you go to your makeovers and stuff that you get done, you're just full of smiles and exciting. I can't imagine you. You get that all the time.
Speaker 3:That's every day. Right, you do this every day. Every day, yeah, all day all day all day, every day, yes, oh my, my.
Speaker 2:God, that's fantastic. So I know you were part of the Prior Lake community in the past. How far out do you work? Do you share your business?
Speaker 3:Oh, I travel all over the metro. There's no place that's too far or you know too far. Out there I go everywhere. I love meeting new people and I love, you know, sharing Color Street with everybody. Really. So you go to their house, they book an appointment right, I certainly can, yep, or we can meet at a coffee shop or, you know, a bar restaurant. Same office as I have. That's great.
Speaker 2:So we are coming towards the end here, and I guess I always love to find out what is the one thing that you want all your listeners to go away with after listening to the podcast your listeners to go away with after listening to the podcast.
Speaker 3:Wow. I want you all to know that our nail polish is different than a lot of nail polishes. Not only is it dry, but it also has missing chemicals. So some of the chemicals that you would find in your traditional bottled polish you won't find in Color Street. Our founder and CEO is very passionate about sharing products with our consumers that are as low in chemicals as possible, so we want to make sure it's clean products, clean ingredients and, you know, make sure people feel good about what they're putting in and on their body.
Speaker 2:That's icing on the cake right there. So why don't you share with how we can all find you and get a hold of you and book these appointments and have a party?
Speaker 3:Wonderful. Well, you can reach me at my email address, which is partieswithmary. At Gmail, you can also find my website, colorstreetcom. Slash partieswithmary. Slash parties with Mary. And if you would like to call me or text me, my number is 612-710-1957.
Speaker 2:That is exciting and I look forward to seeing you again, Mary. And this is here at Color Street and we're going to give this again, Mary. And this is Eric Snow at Color Street and we're going to give this thing a wrap.
