Welcome to money and magic, the podcast that combines the mystical with the practical to help you navigate money in the Muggle world. I'm your host, shy, remote bookkeeper, and judgment free money coach. I hope this podcast helps you create a harmonious relationship with your finances that empowers you to lead your truly magical life. Let's get started. Hey, magical human. Welcome back to money and magic. This is going to be our last episode before I take a month off, so I guess you could say this is the end of season one. But anyway, today we are going to be talking about the autumn equinox, also known as maybone. To most people, the autumn equinox may not mean anything unless you're a farmer, you're pagan, or you're just getting into witchcraft. So I'm going to go ahead and tell you about my favorite time of year. And it's not just because it's public, pumpkin spice everything and fall themed everything, but this is the perfect time to really bring your life into balance and kind of shift gears. So let's talk about it. Mabon is actually the last sabbath on the wheel of the year. So at this point, if you've listened to all of my podcast episodes about the sabbaths, you have heard of all of them, but it is the last one, and it is also known as the witches Thanksgiving. This is a time where we really like to give thanks for what the year has shown us, the blessings that it has given us, whether we have seen them or not. So it's definitely a very Thanksgiving type vibe. Many people know this as the autumn equinox, and it is when day and night are completely balanced. So this is where we are kind of switching gears. We are moving out of the summer months into the cooler months, heading up to winter. We are harvesting everything that the garden has given us, and we are just getting ready to start nestling in for the winter. Now, when we say Maybun, this didn't actually become like a word or a common term until more like the 1970s. So most people know this day just as the autumn equinox. And this specifically has been celebrated for centuries, especially knowing that it is harvest season. For any of you out there, that garden, this is the time of year where I'm sure the garden is going crazy. You probably have pests, things are starting to turn brown, and you are just overwhelmed with the amount of harvest that you have. That is really why this exists, is to celebrate that harvest. This is honestly my favorite time of year. I love when we have this shift because for me, it starts with, we go to a big car show. It's called Ducktale, and it's always around the autumn equinox. And so that is when my body shifts into starting to settle in. I'm like, okay, fall is here. This is my jam. Let's get to it. Most people this time of year think of the basic white girl when it comes to pumpkin spice. And I'm gonna be honest, I'm one of those basic white girls. I love me some pumpkin spice. And so I wanted to share with you a few little witchy things about pumpkin spice and see if this changes your perception at all. The first thing I want to mention that a lot of people don't know is pumpkin spice doesn't actually have pumpkin. It is the spices that are used to flavor pumpkin pie. So therefore, it becomes pumpkin spice. So if you're somebody who's like, oh, I don't really like pumpkin, it really doesn't taste like pumpkin. It's more of the spice part of it. And I think it's interesting that it became, like, the basic white girl type thing, because nothing about these spices are basic at all. They do not grow anywhere near pumpkins. They're actually from the Spice Islands in Indonesia, so they have to get shipped here. Like, these are not cheap spices to obtain, usually. But let's talk about what exactly is usually in pumpkin spice. The first piece of pumpkin spice is cinnamon. And we either love cinnamon or you hate cinnamon. But when you look at pumpkin spice, cinnamon is bringing that fire element. It also has a lot of health benefits, and it is a very high vibe spice. It is meant for abundance. That's why I do a cinnamon ritual on the first of every month. It also kind of just energizes any other things, any other energies that are with that spice. So think of cinnamon as, like, the quartz of spices or plants. The next piece is nutmeg. And for me, nutmeg is a very fun spice, but it is known for protection. So it is kind of like calling in the good karma. And it is a plant of Jupiter. So that is linked to money and prosperity. And then we have allspice and cloves, and both of those are very potent when it comes to stimulating the mind, but it also helps lift you up. These are feel good spices. And if you think of pumpkin spice as a whole, it is a very warming sensation. It is lighting that fire inside of you. So for me, anytime I get a pumpkin spice latte, which this time of year is on the regular, I tell myself that this is my way of lifting myself up and lighting that fire inside me. I also think of pumpkin spice as a very prosperous drink. When I drink this, I think of abundance and prosperity and all of the money that's flowing to me. So if you needed a reason to like pumpkin spice, there you go. It is magical, and it can help bring abundance. Obviously, there's no scientifically proven facts, but I'm just saying that's how I feel about it. So now that you let me rant about my love for pumpkin spice, I will say I like apples more in the fall than I do all the pumpkin stuff. Give me apple cider. Oh, I am in love. But pumpkin spice is just, you know, it's the season. So speaking of that, what are some ways that you can celebrate this Sabbath if you're looking to do that this year? For me, the first and pretty most common is to harvest. Now, this could be literally as in going out to your garden and harvesting what has been provided for you, or it could be figuratively reaping what you've sown in business or relationships or whatever you are putting out there. Take stock of what you've accomplished this year and look at all of the different things around you that you are able to harvest. As we head into the harvest season, another fantastic way to celebrate is to express gratitude. Like I said, this is like the witches Thanksgiving. So maybe make a gratitude list or tell others that you are thankful for them. I really love doing this. Normally around the week of maybun, I will text my friends, anybody I come in contact with, and I will just let them know, hey, I am thankful for your friendship. I am thankful for your love. I am thankful for your knowledge, whatever the case may be. And you can do this if you take a morning walk, just list things that you're grateful for. Try to be extra grateful during this time because gratitude is the attitude. And then another way that you can celebrate is to share. Share with others. This could be the produce that you harvested from the garden. It could be homemade gifts. It could be just sharing that gratitude for them. Whatever the case is, share. So my three biggest points here, harvest gratitude and share. If you are looking for more magical ways, if you're looking for a tarot card, spread, things like that. I do have a free downloadable maven guide like I do for all the other sabbaths, and that'll be linked in the show notes. But the biggest thing is just get outside, be grateful. Show that you see that this year has brought good things for you, even if you've been through hell and back, there are still things that you can pick out and harvest and be grateful for. If you do decide to celebrate this Sabbath this year, reach out and let me know. I would love to hear from you on social media or shoot me an email comment on this podcast. Whatever tickles your fancy. I do want to remind you that in September there will be no podcasts from me because I am taking the month off. I will be back in October and we will be talking about one of my current favorite topics, and that is the election. And then after that it'll be another episode on Samhain. And then starting in November, you will start hearing guests on here. I'm reaching out to all kinds of women out there that are uncovering their money stories or have a money story that they would like to share, and I'm going to let you listen to that. We're going to do some open dialogue, some Q and A, all the fun things. So that will start in November. And I have one more announcement for you guys. I don't have the specifics yet, but I am going to be launching another podcast and this is going to be with my dear friend Cheryl. She is a licensed mental health therapist. So we are going to talk about all of the things like money and emotions and boundaries and all of that fun stuff. So stay tuned for details on that because we are literally just in the brainstorming phase. But I couldn't hold the secret in. I had to let you guys know. Thank you so much for listening today. I can't wait to be back with you here in a month and I will see you then. And that's a wrap for another spellbinding episode of Money and Magic. I hope you learned something that can help you navigate money in the Muggle world.
