The More We Dig. The More We Find.
Well, hello everyone. Welcome back to the Bible Breakdown podcast with your host, pastor Brandon. Today, ezekiel chapter 6, and today's title is when the Mountains Fall when the Mountains Fall. Now, obviously, we are talking about Ezekiel here and he's got a lot to say about the different things that's going on in the nation of Israel, and he is consistently telling them. This is why we're in the position we're in. This is why things are going on, and so over the next several chapters he's talking about what that is. But sometimes you got to go downhill before you can come back up again. So we're going to journey with them all the way to the bottom of the hill and then we're going to find our way back up. So let's talk today about when the mountains fall.
Speaker 1:So, if you have your Bibles, want to open up with me to Ezekiel chapter six while you're doing that, as always. If you like what we're doing around here and you're new around here, make sure you like, share, subscribe to the YouTube channel and the podcast, make sure you're leaving us a five-star review on the podcast it really does help and make sure you're going to the Bible breakdown discussion. And I want you to do two things for me on the Bible Breakdown discussion. Number one I want you to subscribe so you can see it on your timeline. And number two, I want you to comment. I want you to give us your insights. The whole reason why we made that discussion group is so that we could discuss as a group. So make sure you are joining in with us, because we really do believe that the more we dig, the more we find. And as we are getting ready to move forward you can see this in the video and probably hear it in the podcast we are experimenting with a new microphone and so we're not sure yet Don't always know, until it comes out how it sounds, and so, if you like it, make sure you let us know, make sure you email us, let us know if you like it.
Speaker 1:If you hate it, I'm really sorry, but we're going to make it through this together because we're going to read God's word and, as we've been talking about throughout this book so far, if we were to sum up all of Ezekiel into one statement, it would be God's promise of renewal, and when we get into chapters like this, we wonder okay, where's the renewal? Well, first you got to have a need for it, and so what God is doing through Ezekiel is he is helping them. See, this is why I need to renew, is because this is what's going on, and so he is going to once again, like some of the other prophets, declare some of the things that are going on, and then we're going to get into why. So, first things first, let's talk about this chapter of when the mountains fall and let's see what God's word has to say to us. So, if you're ready, ezekiel, chapter 6, verse 1, says this Again a message came to me from the Lord, son of man.
Speaker 1:Now, remember, that is just God's way of saying hey buddy, hey person, human being, turn and face the mountain of Israel and prophesy against them. Proclaim this message from the Sovereign Lord against the mountains of Israel. This is what the Sovereign Lord says to the mountains and the hills and to the ravines and valleys I am about to bring war upon you and I will smash your pagan shrines. All your altars will be demolished and your palaces of worship will be destroyed. I will kill your people in front of your idols. I will lay your corpses in front of your idols and scatter your bones around your altars. Pause, remember, I done told you Ezekiel don't mince words. Okay, so just get ready, because he just calls it like it is All right, it gets worse, but not in this chapter.
Speaker 1:But it gets worse, verse six wherever you live, there will be desolation. I will destroy your pagan shrines. Your altars will be demolished, your idols will be smashed, your places of worship will be tore down and all the religious objects that you have made will be destroyed. The place will be littered with corpses and you will know that I alone am the Lord. But I will let a few of my people escape destruction and they will be scattered among the nations of the world. When they are exiled among the nations, they will remember me, they will recognize how hurt I am by their unfaithful hearts and lustful eyes that long for idols.
Speaker 1:Then, at last, they will hate themselves for all their detestable sins and they will know that I alone am the Lord and that I was serious when I said I would bring this calamity upon them. This is what the sovereign Lord says Clap your hands in horror. Clap your feet, no, no, stamp your feet, cry out because of all the detestable sins of the people of Israel have committed. Now they are going to die from war and famine and disease. Disease will strike down those who are far away, in exile. War will destroy those who are nearby and anyone who survives will be killed by famine. So at last, I will spend my fury on them. They will know that I am the Lord when their dead lie scattered among their idols and the altars, on every hill and mountain, under every green tree, in every great place shade tree, the places where they are offered sacrifices to their idols. I will crush them and make them cities, desolate from the wilderness in the South, of Riblah in the North. They will know that I am the Lord.
Speaker 1:And so what can we do with a chapter like this where God is literally just telling them bad things are coming, because I told you over and over again and you didn't change. You didn't do it. And I but I'm not going to kill everybody, but I'm going to destroy the area, and only then, maybe then you'll know that I was serious. And don't you hate that? Don't you hate that? That God I mean.
Speaker 1:Here's the thing we got to realize that God wasn't after them for like a weekend. You know what I mean. Like he didn't say listen, you guys got two weeks, or you know how. Like, like mamas will count Don't make me count to three. You know one, two, three. You know God was more like those mamas who go one, two, two and a half, two and three quarters, two and nine tenths. He just kept going on and on and on and on until finally he was, you know whatever, two and one, one hundredth. You know, just like like so much. But then finally he's like look, if the only thing that will reach you is judgment, then I'm more interested in your salvation than I am in your comfort. Right To be honest with you. That's why I think sometimes, that's why people fall in a very visible way is out of God's kindness to be honest with you. Not always, but if you think about it, like, let's just talk about my world, the ministry world, you see these high profile people who fall after years of not falling. You know, all of a sudden, now it's exposed, something like that.
Speaker 1:I think one of the many things is because God is so, you know, long suffering with people and he gives them time over and over and over and over, and he's and he's convicting their hearts over and over and over. Hey, I need you to confess this, I need you to step down. I need you to do these things. But then, finally, when it seems like nothing else will reach them, he says okay, well, I'm going to do what's necessary because I care about your salvation. And it looks like that's what God has done to the nation of Israel. It's like if the only thing that will reach you is devastation, I'm going to reach you. And so our action step is don't do that right.
Speaker 1:Identify and remove any quote high places in our lives, anything that takes the place of God in your life, because here's the thing God does not mind us having things. He just doesn't want things to have us, and it's when things start to have us that God starts to have a problem. I grew up in a culture where preachers all the time would preach against going on vacations after they'd had theirs. People, they would preach against any number of things, but I don't think that God cares about any of those things. He cares about our hearts, and so if those things have the place of our heart, then God starts to care.
Speaker 1:And so I want to ask you this question as we get ready to end our time together Is there anything more important than God in your life? If so, be careful, because eventually we'll make it an idol, and then, when it turns out to be not perfect like God, then what we idolize we will eventually demonize. That's everything in our life, and so the best way to honor our family, the best way to honor our spouse, our kids, our job, whatever it is, is to put it below the authority of Christ in our life, because God wants us to enjoy the good things that he has given us, but if it ever competes for his attention, he'll destroy it, because he wants our affection primarily. That's what we were made for. We were made to be in a loving fellowship relationship with God, and so let's make sure we do that right.
Speaker 1:Okay, let's pray, god. Thank you so much for today. Thank you, god, that you're with us and you're for us in every way. I'm thankful, god, that in all things we can trust you. I pray we will trust you more today with everything in our life. In Jesus' name, I pray, amen. Anyway, what God's word says in Ezekiel 34, verse 14, I will put my spirit in you and say it with me, and you will live again. My hope is that you experience the life of Christ in everyday life. I love you. I'll see you tomorrow for Ezekiel, chapter seven.
