I have made some recent changes to the podcast. I've combined the two into one so you will now here the podcast in both English and Japanese. After a few trials I have now decided to do this paragraph by paragraph. You will get one paragraph in English and the next in Japanese.

When someone decides to jump into this profession I believe it’s done differently than when someone decides to be an actor. I think people come to voice acting at different stages in life but lean toward acting in front of the camera early and pursue that dream as a full time job/career. I dropped my question in Gemini and got one answer and had to rephrase it and get Gemini to understand where I’m coming from.
Dareka ga kono shigoto ni tobikomu koto o kimeru toki wa, haiyuu ni naru koto o kimeru toki to wa mattaku chigau to omoimasu. Gemini stated exactly what I see. People come to the Voice Acting world later in life than screen and stage actors. It’s a career where having worked in another career for 20/30/40 years isn’t a negative but a positive toward being successful. Clients are looking for voices for medical, financial, insurance and corporate arenas that have experience that lends itself to the authoritative, been there done that, expertise that needs to come across to the listener.
Seiyuu no sekai no hotondo no hito wa karera no jinsei no osokuni hajimemasu. Moshi salary man toka, keisatsukan toka 20 nen yatta ato, seiyuu ni naru koto ga dekimasu. Many who do get into this industry have a tough time getting started. Especially if they come from a non tech background and don’t have folks to lean on for useful advice. The cost of entry can be needlessly high because people approach entry a little backward. They start with recording equipment, then room treatment then coaching. The first step should be finding someone or some groups you can join to start learning this world from the inside out. You get information on how to treat your space, and what gear you should get based on what niche you are pursuing, what voice type you have and the aforementioned space treatment. Below I provide some steps, based on my experience, that one can take to enter the business.

- Seek out classes for acting and voice acting and improv.

- Make some of the classes group classes so you can learn from each other.

- Work with your coach(es) to find where your current voice and skills match a niche.

- Visit audio centers and try out some of the mics and interfaces available in your price range, and make a list but don’t start buying anything at first. You may find someone with that gear who can make you a deal.

- Your friends tell you your voice is great, you should be in radio or voice acting. That may be all well and good but if you don’t know how to use your “instrument”, similar to a guitar or drums, how well do you think your music will be received? So get coaching, get educated and get better.

- Learn to connect with the copy by forming an emotional connection with the copy. If the copy talks about how much fun it is to go snowboarding and you have never seen snow, how do you make it sound real, authentic, believable and conversational? Well surely at some point in your life you have felt this way. Draw on that feeling you had. Speak it out loud while recording. Once you hear this feeling in your voice, once you are in that persona of happy, conversational, you go from talking to conversing with this copy. Keep going until you have the take or takes you want. Now you can edit your recording and submit your audition having hit all the points the client asked for.
